It’s probably too cold to be sat out here, but Midge doesn’t really care - and besides, it’s hardly the first time some combination of Strathmore-raised kids have sat out on the fire escape in an attempt to afford themselves some temporary respite from their families.

Mike might’ve been a late addition to that particular group, but she loves him just as fiercely as she does all the others, and she’s glad someone is here tonight.

“Let’s run away.” Exhaled with a sigh of a laugh and a whisper of smoke, her previously melancholy expression finally takes on a more humorous edge. The quip isn’t one of her best, but at least it’s something.
