07.15.25
Had my call with my interim advisor (who also happens to be the director of the program 😵💫)
It went well. He gave me an overview of the program and explained how my courses will be laid out (asynchronous, two courses a semester + summer) and that I’ll have to complete an e-portfolio by the end of the last term.
As of today my expected graduation date is summer 2027.
Time will pass anyway, might as well get a degree.

Sisters of the Kokoro library and the vitality of rural libraries
Iina, Kokoro, and Aru marvel over Aru’s drawing for the library flier in the show’s second episode In July 2022, I wrote about Kokoro Library, noting that the series takes place in an extremely rural location, with the library isolated on a mountain and receiving very few visitors/patrons. This connects with rural libraries, which do not always get as much attention as more people like in urban…

Not sure if I ever said this here but I’ve enrolled in a Master’s of Library Science program (second Master’s here I come)!
If you have done the program, drop me a line!! Would love to hear about your experiences and even what you do for work now! 😊

front/back of a bookmark i made for my program's bookmark design competition
#top 3 get 25 bucks and i need all the money i can get in this expensiveass city tbh lol#if nothing else tho it hopefully(???) got me out of my art block funk#if you Really tried ig you could guesstimate what school this is for. but that'd be weird. don't be weird#my art#grad school#artists on tumblr#mlis#the theme i was going for was sorta like 'information getting passed down through different eras of technology' something like that#last person is a semi-self portrait of my 'working in the rare books archives vault' days. good times.#also my drawing tablet literally died when i was 80 percent done with this. most of the coloring was like me doing finger painting JESUS

Can't believe I found a fellow tumblr in my grad school class...
We had to write about a recent marketing tactic we'd seen and analyze it via the Ted Talk we'd just watched, so I picked the Tumblr One Piece Clown fiasco. One of my classmates commented this (transcribed in alt text):

Y'all I think I became an actual LIS professional today. I'm an MLIS student, not actually working in the field but I do volunteer at my local museum doing some collections data entry. Today, they had me write a formal collection management procedure because we started doing something new with the project I just finished on account of it being huge for my very small town museum. I created and wrote a procedure that they're going to use forever!
And a reminder, support your local museums and libraries! They're on the front lines against censorship and rewriting history!!
#im joking about this making me a professional when i still dont get paid for doing this and havent finished my degree#but im also not joking#like this is definitely crossing some kind of line into becoming an actual professional#mlis#library and information science#support your local library#support your local museum

At the point in my paper writing process where I'm like I should do a post about how I'm using Scrivener (https://www.literatureandlatte.com/scrivener/overview) to organize my research, complete with screenshots. So yeah it's going great. But seriously, I wish I had put in the effort to do this at the beginning of the semester. It would have made life so much easier. The worst part is that I found Scrivener *after* doing my last round of grad school and was all damn this would have made my thesis so much easier. So it's not like I didn't know.
But if you do big writing projects it's really handy, whether it's creative or academic. I have a project that is alllll of my poetry, and I can use the meta data on each poem to tag it with themes, see where and when it was submitted, and on occasion when it was published. The compile function makes it super easy to put together submission packets.
If folks are interested, I'll do a post on it after my paper is done. But they have a super generous trial period, and I highly recommend going through the whole tutorial project if you do get it. The learning curve is steep but so worth it. Also, I bought the first edition, missed out on the 2nd because it was a subscription model for a minute, but they dropped that for 3rd edition, and because I did have that old license, I got a solid discount on upgrading. Oh! And there's no AI! Which I know we are all looking for right now.
