rafayel drabble 02.

it had been weeks since rafayel last reached out to you. he’s usually never this distant, and if he is, it always came with a reason. you decided to visit him at his studio in hopes to seek an answer from him as to why he’s behaving so differently.

when you opened the door to his studio (with the spare key he gave you), you caught sight of him painting on a canvas; every stroke and movement was so precise, though appearing almost… inhumane. too elegant, too careful, too delicate — more so than rafayel usually was.

as you walked closer to him, you noticed all the thrown sketches on the floor that piled around him. many of them were of lemuria, but there was one that looked to be a woman wearing a gorgeous dress; similar to ones he would show you of lemurian brides. oddly enough, it seemed that rafayel had drawn you as that woman in the dress.

“sorry for the mess. i’ve been a little busy.”

he paused for a moment before putting his art supplies down and standing up, only now meeting your eyes. they seemed glossy, maybe a little swollen and puffy too — almost as if he had just been crying before going back to work.

“a little? raf, you haven’t spoken to me in weeks. talk to me. what’s going on?”

after a long silence, a tear slipped from his eyes as he pursed his lips together. you immediately pull rafayel into your arms, doing everything you can to soothe his aching heart. you could feel his hold on you tighten, almost as if the moment he were to let go, you’d disappear from his embrace.

the image of you in that lemurian bridal dress moments before you took your own life in front of him was what drove him to this point. uncontrollable sobbing filled the room — he felt as if someone had plunged a dagger deep into his heart, ripping it out and leaving him to bleed on the ground.

it didn’t matter if he had told you or not;

you wouldn’t remember any of it.

Achilles & Patroclus (2021)

Of all the art I've made, this is one of my most beloved pieces. I also created a plate version for a double-sided acrylic standee that had one side in the red-figure and the other in black-figure style painting.

Also I've never really spoke about it before, but I always wanted to make a Hector and Andromache piece to pair with this. Never got around to it, but maybe one day I will.

Do you have a particular favorite myth?

Omg yes. I grew up in a french household and instead of the tooth fairy we had a tooth mouse. It's called "La Petite Souris", the little mouse. I am always surprised at how few people know about this little myth. Here's a little drawing I made a few years ago in another one of my art styles.

Hades & Persephone (2023)

This piece still means a lot to me! It took around 7-8 years to finish. When I first started this I didn’t feel like I had the ability to finish it the way I wanted. So it took a lot of patience and determination!
