What could have been

Pasca kelulusan kuliah S1, disaat kebanyakan temen-temen seangkatan lagi sibuk cari kerja atau bahkan sudah ada yang sibuk merintis karir di Jakarta, kehidupanku waktu itu masih berkutat di kampus. Kebetulan waktu di tingkat akhir kuliah, aku ikutan beberapa lomba dan pas ngerjain skripsi hasilnya cukup bagus. Jadinya aku punya hubungan yang baik dengan dosen pembimbing dan setelah lulus dipercaya untuk ikut beberapa kegiatan riset dan diangkat jadi asisten akademik di KK.

Waktu itu aku memang berpikir untuk mengejar karir sebagai akademisi. Lebih spesifiknya, jadi dosen 😊 Yang dipikirkan waktu itu adalah bahwa aku seneng terlibat di kegiatan riset, seneng nulis, seneng ikut terlibat untuk nyusun proposal untuk cari dana penelitian. Memang seru sih untuk bisa mendalami bidang yang memang aku suka. Lalu prospek untuk bisa merintis karir di lingkungan yang aku sudah familiar sejak kecil—kampus ITB—juga menggiurkan. Apalagi untuk bisa tetep deket sama keluarga di Bandung, rasanya nyaman aja gitu. Dan sejujurnya, hal yang paling memotivasiku buat tetep di kampus adalah untuk bisa kuliah ke Eropa. Pikirku, kalau masih terlibat di dunia riset, peluang untuk dapet beasiswa harusnya makin besar.

Aku selalu menganggap diriku sebagai orang yang biasa-biasa aja. Bukan orang yang super bright, tapi ya ga bodoh juga. Di perkuliahan gapernah jadi yang paling menonjol di kelas. Kehidupan di luar kelas juga biasa aja, membaur aja dengan lingkungan dan pergaulan. Makanya dulu sebenernya sempet ragu untuk merintis karir sebagai akademisi, soalnya ada stigma bahwa para calon dosen di kampus itu orang-orang yang memang menonjol di bidang akademik. Mungkin mapres, IPKnya tinggi, aktif di organisasi ini itu.. Sedangkan aku? Biasa aja, ga menonjol.

Satu-satunya penjelasan kenapa aku bisa sampai dapet beasiswa untuk kuliah di Belanda itu kayanya cuma takdir Allah. Somehow, aku selalu dipertemukan dengan orang-orang baik yang membimbingku untuk bisa membuat keputusan yang merubah takdir. Keputusan yang pertama adalah keputusan untuk magang di Esri waktu di tingkat 3. Gara-gara magang disana, aku jadi kenal sama teknologi Esri yang akhirnya aku pake buat ikutan Esri Young Scholars Award di tahun 2016. Waktu itu teknologi Esri belum terlalu populer, jadinya aku punya kesempatan buat pake teknologi itu disaat orang-orang lain masih berkutat dengan aplikasi desktop; akhirnya menang dan berangkat deh ke Amerika. Gara-gara itu dosbing akhirnya jadi notice sama mahasiswa yang biasa-biasa aja ini, akhirnya terlibat kegiatan-kegiatan riset dan jadi asisten akademik di kampus.

Untuk dapet beasiswa di Belanda juga gitu. Kebetulan dulu aku terlibat di kegiatan riset yang temanya ceruk dan spesifik banget, sangat menjual untuk ditulis di aplikasi beasiswa. Beasiswanya juga bukan beasiswa yang mainstream kaya LPDP atau StuNed; beasiswaku ini tidak sepopuler itu dan menurutku aku jadi punya lebih sedikit pesaing. Dari sekian banyak beasiswa yang aku daftarin, somehow aku punya feeling bahwa beasiswa NFP ini bakal tembus. Dan bener kan akhirnya dapet 😊 Dan beasiswa ini, pada akhirnya, membawaku pada kehidupanku di Belanda sekarang. Bisa panjang ceritanya kalo diterusin. The rest is history..

Hari ini kebetulan diajak Ajeng buat main ke kantor lamanya di Jakarta. Ketemu sama temen-temen dan kolega lama. Kebetulan ketemuannya di waktu makan siang, jadinya kami diajak buat ikutan makan siang ala pegawai kantoran di Jakarta. Sekitar jam 12, kami dateng di lobi gedung mewah di Jakarta Selatan. Keren banget menurutku, kantorku di Belanda sana kalah deh. Lobi kantor rame banget, keliatan karyawan-karyawan kantoran mulai turun buat cari makan siang. Kami juga ikut berbaur di suasana itu, jalan keluar bareng temen-temen kami, keluar gedung sampai ketemu gang yang sembunyi dibalik megahnya gedung-gedung megah pencakar langit. Gangnya sempit, ramai dengan orang-orang berpenampilan rapih pakai lanyard yang tergantung di lehernya. Keliatan beberapa warung makanan lagi sibuk-sibuknya; nyiapin soto, ikan bakar, nasi padang..

Kami akhirnya masuk ke salah satu warung soto dan menyantap makan siang kami disana. Warungnya panas banget, pengap dan lembab—tapi di saat yang sama suasananya terasa sangat hidup dan familiar. Hiruk pikuknya, lingkungannya, orang-orangnya. Aneh, padahal aku gapernah ngalamin kehidupan ini sebelumnya. Mungkin karena aku ngerasa kalau aku ga memutuskan untuk meniti karir sebagai akademisi di Bandung (yang ujung-ujungnya ga aku terusin juga), kayaknya aku bakal memilih jalan yang paling umum yang orang pilih di lingkunganku ini, jadi pekerja kantoran di Jakarta. Seperti apa yang Ajeng alami sebeluk dia pindah ke Belanda untuk hidup bareng aku.

Di dalam warung soto yang panas itu, aku terlarut dalam suasana. Terlarut dalam perbincangan dalam bahasa yang sangat aku pahami, terbenam dalam atmosfer yang hidup di dalam warung soto itu, dalam teriakan “es jeruk, es teh manis, teh tawar” yang bersaut-sautan. Aku melihat wajah karyawan-karyawan yang sedang menjalani kehidupan yang keras di Jakarta, aku pandangi wajahnya satu-satu. Aku bisa melihat diriku di dalam posisi mereka. Semua terasa familiar.

He's joined every rangkaian ospek uni/fakultas/jurusan to either be a mentor or committee and he's super nice to everyone and the freshmen LOVE him.

They bicker a lot when they first got to know each other to the point people think that they're never gonna be friends. But then the unexpected happens and they started going out. 1♦ऋग्वेद मण्डल 9 सूक्त 93 मंत्र 2 में कहा गया है कि परमात्मा सशरीर आता है, वह परमेश्वर कबीर जी हैं। उनका जन्म नहीं होता। वो सशरीर प्रकट होते हैं। इसी उपलक्ष्य में संत रामपाल जी महाराज के सान्निध्य में 628 वां परमेश्वर कबीर जी का प्रकट दिवस 9-11 जून को मनाया जा रहा है।

2♦️पांच तत्त्व की देह ना मेरी, ना कोई माता जाया।

जीव उद्धारण तुम को तारन, सीधा जग में आया।।

कबीर जी, अविनाशी परमात्मा हैं जिनका न तो पाँच तत्व का शरीर था और न उनका जन्म माँ से हुआ बल्कि वे सशरीर शिशु रूप में कमल के फूल पर सन् 1398 में अवतरित हुए थे।

3♦️ भग की राह हम नहीं आए, जन्म मरण में नहीं समाए।

आध्यात्मिक शिक्षा का केंद्र माने जाने वाले काशी के लहरतारा तालाब में कमल के फूल पर सन् 1398, विक्रमी संवत 1455, ज्येष्ठ मास की पूर्णमासी को कबीर साहेब, शिशु रूप में सशरीर प्रकट हुए थे।

4♦️ नहीं बाप ना माता जाए, अविगत से हम चल आए।

कलियुग में काशी चलि आए। जब हमरे तुम दर्शन पाये।।

आज से करीब 600 वर्ष पहले कबीर साहेब, काशी के लहरतारा तालाब में कमल के फूल पर सशरीर प्रकट हुए थे, उनका जन्म माँ से नहीं हुआ था।

5♦️ कबीर साहेब का शिशु रूप में अवतरण आज से लगभग 600 साल पहले भारत की पवित्र भूमि काशी के लहरतारा तालाब में एक विकसित कमल के फूल पर सन् 1398, विक्रमी संवत 1455, ज्येष्ठ मास की पूर्णमासी को हुआ था। उसी अवसर पर कबीर परमात्मा जी का प्रकट दिवस 9-11 जून को मनाया जा रहा है।

Benefits of Amazon EMR

Amazon EMR has many benefits. These include AWS's flexibility and cost savings over on-premises resource development.

Cost-saving

Amazon EMR costs depend on instance type, number of Amazon EC2 instances, and cluster launch area. On-demand pricing is low, but Reserved or Spot Instances save much more. Spot instances can save up to a tenth of on-demand costs.

Note

Using Amazon S3, Kinesis, or DynamoDB with your EMR cluster incurs expenses irrespective of Amazon EMR usage.

Note

Set up Amazon S3 VPC endpoints when creating an Amazon EMR cluster in a private subnet. If your EMR cluster is on a private subnet without Amazon S3 VPC endpoints, you will be charged extra for S3 traffic NAT gates.

AWS integration

Amazon EMR integrates with other AWS services for cluster networking, storage, security, and more. The following list shows many examples of this integration:

Use Amazon EC2 for cluster nodes.

Amazon VPC creates the virtual network where your instances start.

Amazon S3 input/output data storage

Set alarms and monitor cluster performance with Amazon CloudWatch.

AWS IAM permissions setting

Audit service requests with AWS CloudTrail.

Cluster scheduling and launch with AWS Data Pipeline

AWS Lake Formation searches, categorises, and secures Amazon S3 data lakes.

Its deployment

The EC2 instances in your EMR cluster do the tasks you designate. When you launch your cluster, Amazon EMR configures instances using Spark or Apache Hadoop. Choose the instance size and type that best suits your cluster's processing needs: streaming data, low-latency queries, batch processing, or big data storage.

Amazon EMR cluster software setup has many options. For example, an Amazon EMR version can be loaded with Hive, Pig, Spark, and flexible frameworks like Hadoop. Installing a MapR distribution is another alternative. Since Amazon EMR runs on Amazon Linux, you can manually install software on your cluster using yum or the source code.

Flexibility and scalability

Amazon EMR lets you scale your cluster as your computing needs vary. Resizing your cluster lets you add instances during peak workloads and remove them to cut costs.

Amazon EMR supports multiple instance groups. This lets you employ Spot Instances in one group to perform jobs faster and cheaper and On-Demand Instances in another for guaranteed processing power. Multiple Spot Instance types might be mixed to take advantage of a better price.

Amazon EMR lets you use several file systems for input, output, and intermediate data. HDFS on your cluster's primary and core nodes can handle data you don't need to store beyond its lifecycle.

Amazon S3 can be used as a data layer for EMR File System applications to decouple computation and storage and store data outside of your cluster's lifespan. EMRFS lets you scale up or down to meet storage and processing needs independently. Amazon S3 lets you adjust storage and cluster size to meet growing processing needs.

Reliability

Amazon EMR monitors cluster nodes and shuts down and replaces instances as needed.

Amazon EMR lets you configure automated or manual cluster termination. Automatic cluster termination occurs after all procedures are complete. Transitory cluster. After processing, you can set up the cluster to continue running so you can manually stop it. You can also construct a cluster, use the installed apps, and manually terminate it. These clusters are “long-running clusters.”

Termination prevention can prevent processing errors from terminating cluster instances. With termination protection, you can retrieve data from instances before termination. Whether you activate your cluster by console, CLI, or API changes these features' default settings.

Security

Amazon EMR uses Amazon EC2 key pairs, IAM, and VPC to safeguard data and clusters.

IAM

Amazon EMR uses IAM for permissions. Person or group permissions are set by IAM policies. Users and groups can access resources and activities through policies.

The Amazon EMR service uses IAM roles, while instances use the EC2 instance profile. These roles allow the service and instances to access other AWS services for you. Amazon EMR and EC2 instance profiles have default roles. By default, roles use AWS managed policies generated when you launch an EMR cluster from the console and select default permissions. Additionally, the AWS CLI may construct default IAM roles. Custom service and instance profile roles can be created to govern rights outside of AWS.

Security groups

Amazon EMR employs security groups to control EC2 instance traffic. Amazon EMR shares a security group for your primary instance and core/task instances when your cluster is deployed. Amazon EMR creates security group rules to ensure cluster instance communication. Extra security groups can be added to your primary and core/task instances for more advanced restrictions.

Encryption

Amazon EMR enables optional server-side and client-side encryption using EMRFS to protect Amazon S3 data. After submission, Amazon S3 encrypts data server-side.

The EMRFS client on your EMR cluster encrypts and decrypts client-side encryption. AWS KMS or your key management system can handle client-side encryption root keys.

Amazon VPC

Amazon EMR launches clusters in Amazon VPCs. VPCs in AWS allow you to manage sophisticated network settings and access functionalities.

AWS CloudTrail

Amazon EMR and CloudTrail record AWS account requests. This data shows who accesses your cluster, when, and from what IP.

Amazon EC2 key pairs

A secure link between the primary node and your remote computer lets you monitor and communicate with your cluster. SSH or Kerberos can authenticate this connection. SSH requires an Amazon EC2 key pair.

Monitoring

Debug cluster issues like faults or failures utilising log files and Amazon EMR management interfaces. Amazon EMR can archive log files on Amazon S3 to save records and solve problems after your cluster ends. The Amazon EMR UI also has a task, job, and step-specific debugging tool for log files.
