We were separate and without purpose, so the Great Spirit blessed us with the three virtues...
United in Duty, bound by Destiny, this is the way of 𝐁𝐈𝐎𝐍𝐈𝐂𝐋𝐄 🌌

I am told that Dume and his team were the only Toa Team during the Cataclysm who all survived, eventually becoming the ruling council of Tekoa as their Toa power dissipated or was passed on. Onewa held Turaga Taarkus in especially high regard, and that's saying something.
Of course we know what Dume did to the council many, many years later.
It's bizarre to think that even before the six strangers came to our shore, and our own Rahaga, there were far, far more Toa.
Thankfully, Rahaga Nuju delivered an intact Knowledge Crystal to me before he succumbed to one of his fits and destroyed it. It doesn't contain much, but does have an incomplete roster of a few Toa who tried to stop the Cataclysm, and this image, presumably captured from somewhere underwater.
Takua suggested that we should commit their names to the wall of memory in the Great Mausoleum.
I don't foresee Vakama disagreeing, or anyone else for that matter.
-------BEGIN ECHO-------
Matoro's thoughts trailed away as he saw the light dim further within the chamber. Crystalline shapes, holding each other, formed a sort of rising half-circle atop which the Ignika sat, faintly pulsing.
Another quake rocked through his icy dome, fresh fractures having to be sealed rapidly with his elemental powers before the precious air escaped and he drowned.
Something was wrong. Karda Nui didn’t have this much water around the Codrex, and if this stalactite fell, then the others- If Matoro could swim to the surface, he could get the Matoran to safely, and then come back and-
Out of the corner of his eye, the mask pulsed weakly.
Matoro winced, facing the far-away sky and squeezing his eyes shut, as if to wake himself from a bad dream. He had been a Matoran just weeks before.
Don't ask me to make this choice. He pleaded. They need me. If I don't go, I'm letting everyone in Karda Nui die. But... if I leave-
"They all will die anyway," Jaller's words echoed in his mind. “You can’t save anyone if they don’t have a Universe to live in.”
Matoro opened the seal on the Chamber, the air warm and comforting as he stepped inside.
The Mask was a slightly different shape than when Jaller had carried it, and it even seemed to move as Matoro approached it.
He picked up the mask and moved to the other end of the Chamber, sitting down to complete the circle with the vaguely hand-shaped outcroppings set perfectly on his shoulders.
As if they were the whole of the universe resting upon him.
It was just his imagination, but he almost felt them… move, gripping him tighter. Reassuring him.
With a deep breath, Matoro put on the Mask of Life.
Far within the mangled machine-god corpse above, within the cold, flooded chamber of the Codrex, within the Ignition Core, and within the Ignika set upon a light-crystal that was once the body of a Toa of Ice, The Great Spirit breathed life into what remained of the Universe.
And the Great Spirit fell into a deep slumber.
And he dreamt of an Island far above.
Songs: Emil/Sacrifice (NieR:Replicant), Closer to the Truth Dark Ambient (Cryoshell, arrangement by Essenger), Contact Redux (Trocadero & David Levy), Losing Battle V3 (carnelianfoxx)

Why is there an exit to the Test of Trust on the 777 Stairs?
Like in theory I really like the idea of that room; a group enters, and each member is trapped in an inescapable cylinder adorned only with a single latch. A recorded voice informs the group that if each individual lifts the latch at the same time, they all may pass, but if one betrays the others and lifts their latch first, they will go free and their companions will perish. However, this is a trick, and if one of the group does attempt to betray the rest, they are all judged unworthy and dropped into a pool of water that will slowly heat and boil them alive.
The specifics don't mean much, but the concept is solid. Judge the character of the team by their ability to work together and prioritize the group over personal gain. If one is willing to sell the others out, they certainly don't deserve to continue and the rest are likely no better, so they all die. Fair enough. A little extreme perhaps, but this is a safety feature on the path to the most powerful item in the universe, which has complete power over life itself, so I'd say it's fair.
So why the heck is there a tunnel out of that boiling pit? One that was clearly put there intentionally since it contains doors that shut behind any who pass through it to prevent them from turning back. If the point of that chamber is to determine who is worthy to continue on to the Ignika, why is there a way out for people who fail the challenge? One that leaves them closer to the mask instead of spitting them out somewhere else far away from the stairs? The test of character is completely moot at that point because it's actually more beneficial to fail the challenge, because it lets the group completely bypass the next chamber they would have entered normally, which was presumably Umbra's room! It's just a cheat code to get around the strongest guardian!
So is that the point? Is it not a test of character, but instead a test of intelligence and craftiness? If so, it's a piss poor one, because you can't judge someone's puzzle-solving skills if they aren't aware there's a puzzle they're supposed to be solving. Plus what would it matter if those who passed it were clever if they've already proven they can't be trusted and are thus completely undeserving of the limitless power they're trying to get their hands on? And if it is a test of character, it's also useless, because the stairs have an automatic system that detects the intentions of those who descend them anyway! That's why the Inika and the Piraka faced different challenges on the way down, the Toa got the heroic path with the Chamber of Death, which actually is a solid test since it demands the same thing the Ignika itself will, while the Piraka got the villainous path and the trust test instead.
So like, if you already have a system installed that can sense the intentions of those coming to claim the mask, why isn't the path that opens to those with nefarious intent not an instakill? Why is there a way for them to succeed at all when they're the last kind of people who should? And more importantly, why is it the easier path?

the Ignika's reaction to being threatened with a rock is all the more hilarious in light of it surviving orbital reentry two years later

Sometimes I wonder if Tuma and Metus actually got their hands on the Ignika
Like imagine the shit that would happen to them bc the Ignika was designed to be worn without issues by only Mata Nui (reason why anyone else who wore it would either die, mutate or go bat shit insane(Toa Ignika is an acception bc its a slight spirit version of the Ignika itself) so I'd just love to see that madness
