Shapes and Colors

In mathematics we often work with shapes, either looking at different functions and analyzing their graphs or working with shapes to define their angles and side lengths. A drawing on a whiteboard of either of these may assist in understanding the concepts, however in many cases, they are not digestible enough. For some, they may not be interesting enough.

Especially in this time after lockdown from the pandemic, students more than ever are invested in technology and their screens. Their attention span is down and their understanding of concepts is even lower. I personally have felt that I have seen students struggle with basic mathematical concepts more this year than in any year prior. 

An issue in any class is making sure that students are engaged; bright colors and flashing lights on a screen are one way to do so. Using technology to demonstrate the concepts taught in class are a way to keep students engaged with the material while using helpful models. As Weng writes in an article titled 3D mathematics-Seeing is believing, “Instruction through a computer is livelier than traditional instruction, and can better elicit student interest,” (Weng 53).

There are many mathematical tools that can be accessed through computers. We use tools like MATLAB, a coding language, or Desmos, an online graphing calculator, to play around with math.

Another way in which we could further demonstrate math on computers could be through mathematical modeling, such as in Blender. I have been working for the past month on understanding Blender and what I can do with it. I still have many more lessons to learn, however I have now finished the first course I decided to work through. I now know more about animation, shading, lighting, creating shapes, and more. 

This past week, I worked through the final lessons to sculpt a head and paint it. What started as a sphere turned into a face, and when the clock struck midnight on Friday night, I had a villain-like character.

finally got some time to finish these guys up! which is sort of ironic considering I started these because I wanted to draw Malleus with a Dragapult, and then I just didn't for a million years!

Malleus has the aforementioned Dragapult, except it's a super special non-canon color Dragapult (like an anime-only form that you could get in-game exclusively through some limited-time event where you have to show up in-person at a specific location in Japan) (it has some wacky overpowered exclusive move/form and the OT is listed as Malleus) (so like that kind of ridiculous specialness) (Leona is extremely salty about this). also hoards and hoards of Dreepy. Dreepy LOVE Malleus. they take naps on his horns inbetween begging him to throw them across the island at mach speeds.

Lilia has a Drampa and a bunch of Woobat that he hasn't actually caught, they just follow him around in swarms because they sense a kinship with him. (also breaking my own rule again to say that he had a Mawile in the past, because...I just really wanted to give him a Mawile...)

Sebek has Sandile for obvious reasons, and also a Pikachu that bullies him relentlessly. :(

Silver has a shiny Corvisquire; I really went back-and-forth on also giving him an Aegislash, but...hm. those pokedex entries though. he can stick with just one for now.

(I hadn't planned on the shiny for him, but after I'd decided on the Corvisquire line and was looking it up for reference, I realized that shiny Rookidee is gold and then turns silver when it evolves and I lost my entire goddamn mind)

y'know, one of the goofiest things I've learnt from the desmos community is that { } with nothing inside equals 1

but that's not just it, you can also add { }s

and it functions just the same as adding 2 1s

but therein lies the funniest part, that you can perform almost any function on it, from minus

to exponents

to even factorials!

and lists too!!!

you can even compare solutions of { }s in { }s

there's almost no restrictions, if you can do it with numbers, you can do it with { }

and this leads me to what I've seen a lot of people calling "desmosfuck" after the infamous programming language brainfuck, and it restricts you by not allowing any letters and no numbers, that includes sin, log, x, y and all the others. The only thing you can make out of { }s are points and numbers though, but thankfully that's usually enough to make a bunch of stuff.

like, if you need π, just use (-0.5)!^2

you need e? you already have π and i, just use e^(iπ)=-1 and rearrange it to e=-1^(1/(iπ)) and get -1^((π^-1)(i^-1))

want phi? sure, just use it's surd representation of (1+sqrt(5))/2

okay, but what if you really wanna do functions? well, if you're desperate, you can sorta do that, you just gotta use a concentration of points.

cos(x) and sin(x)? use the identities

cos seems easier

and x just has to be a dense list of numbers

now that we have x, let us... REWRITE!

that's dense... buuuut, it does the job as soon as we add the x part to the x coordinate!

was thinking about thangyu as i normally do but was specifically thinking about thangyu pre-games and thinking about exactly what kind of relationship they had (free drinks at the club will haunt me forever) but then i suddenly remembered this scene:

thanos already knew how old nam-gyu was. right off the top of his head he knew that nam-gyu is 27/born in 97. so now my question is..... why/how/when did thanos find out this information!!! did thanos ask nam-gyu how old he was when they "reunited" in the games? or was this something that thanos already knew before the games? if this was prior knowledge, what exactly was their relationship? were they close enough for thanos to know not just that nam-gyu is younger than him, but to know his specific age, and remember it? cause why would thanos know that if nam-gyu was just some random bartender/promoter/worker at the club... why would thanos know this if nam-gyu wasn't someone he interacted with somewhat regularly.......... thanos how do you remember the year nam-gyu was born but not his name oh he is such a tease!! i am so so so curious about them PLEASE thanos why did you already know nam-gyu's age off the top of your head 🙏
