Background of Samudra Mathan and Lord Shiva consuming Haalaahala
I want to remember the story of Lord Shiva drinking poison, as it holds great significance in our Hindu tradition. It shows our Lord's compassion towards us.
Tumblr media
The story of Samudra Manthan begins during a time of conflict between the Devas and Asuras. After being defeated, the Devas sought help from Lord Vishnu, who advised them to churn the ocean of milk to obtain amrita, the nectar of immortality. To do this, they needed the strength of the Asuras, so the Devas proposed a partnership. Mount Mandara served as the churning rod, and the serpent Vasuki was used as the rope.
As they churned, various treasures emerged, such as Kamadhenu, Airavata, Kalpavriksha, Laxmi, and Dhanvantari, who brought the pot of amrita. However, amidst these wonders, a deadly poison named Haalaahala surfaced, threatening to destroy everything. Both the Devas and Asuras were terrified and turned to Lord Shiva for assistance.
Lord Shiva answered their prayers and, realizing the gravity of the situation, decided to consume the poison to save the universe. With great resolve, he swallowed the Haalaahala, holding it in his throat to prevent it from affecting him. This act turned his throat blue, earning him the name Neelkanth.
Once Lord Shiva contained the poison, the churning continued, and eventually, the amrita was produced.
A Slight Variation in the story according to different sources:
In the story of Samudra Manthan, Parvati's involvement with the poison is often mentioned in various retellings. According to some versions, after Lord Shiva consumed the Haalaahala poison to save the universe, Parvati became concerned for his well-being.
To protect him, she is said to have grasped his throat, preventing the poison from going further into his body. This act symbolizes her role as a nurturing and protective force. This detail is found in some texts and folklore, though it may not be emphasized in all versions of the story.
I personally love the story of how Lord Shiva consumed Halahala to protect us. It shows that he is capable of absorbing all our poisons and granting the amrita of liberation. There is nothing that can equal his mercy.

I can't remember if anyone has asked this yet, but how do you feel about Magthan (Mag and Nathan)? And do you have any headcanons for them?
My asks are FINALLY back, SOOOOO...
Here we go!
PROS:
This seriously would've improved a lot for pretty much everyone. Shilo's general quality of life would improve a TON, and she probably wouldn't be stuck in the house, Mag would likely be able to have a general support system in finding a way out of GeneCo that didn't involve dying, and Nathan would be able to work through his baggage over Marni's death.
Shilo gets a functioning family :3
CONS:
Difficulty due to the workplace
Trust issues after Marni's death
HEAVILY differing opinions when it comes to the factor of murder
GENERAL CONSENSUS:
Pretty alright! There are some issues, but these can be worked out pretty quickly and with some communication. The main issue is the general mental states of both characters, but they’d hopefully be able to help each other improve.
HEADCANONS
They both support each other a lot in terms of the whole workplace thing. Both of them have rough days there, and both are there to help the other heal afterwards.
Mag convinces Nathan to get Shilo out of the house and eventually to stop poisoning her medicine, helping ease his fears of having her leave him.
Picnic dates. Picnic dates. Enough said. PICNIC DATES.
Nathan is a godly baker. Seriously, this man makes the best cookies. After Marni died, he didn’t want to let little traditions like making birthday cakes go, so he did his best to learn his late wife’s recipes and techniques. He keeps the tradition going with his new family.
Nathan is cheesy as hell and likes homemade cards. Good for him, Mag thinks it's fricking adorable.
He goes to all of her shows

For the Sake of Innocence | A Poem
Tumblr media
For the Sake of Innocence
by Mathan Subbiah
Introduction
Welcome to For the Sake of Innocence. I’m Mathan Subbiah, a poet who finds meaning in life’s quiet struggles. This poem came from reflecting on how a child—innocent, voiceless—carries the weight of a troubled marriage. It’s a reminder: amidst our conflicts, the smallest hearts often hurt most. If it speaks to you, share your thoughts or pass it along.
For the Sake of Innocence
The Hidden Pain of a Troubled Child
Never trouble the child. Far worse is a troubled child.
It was a troubled marriage,
It was recent, this heart upheave,
Trying to save it, there was no rage,
For the only child I have.
Was in love with a heartthrob,
For ten long years, enjoyed every moment,
A high-pressure job,
Wouldn’t let go or relent.
There were emotions strong,
It was all love and joy, without any ill will,
Now there is dispassion, know that this is wrong,
Still didn’t harbor any ill.
The child was listening, trembling,
To all the heated, vain arguments, the situation went grave,
Why harm an innocent heart, compel suffering?
It is time to pack the minimum and leave.
A Few Thoughts
This poem traces love fading into loss, but its soul is the child caught in the middle. A decade of joy—strong, real—worn down by time and strain. What’s left is dispassion, not bitterness. The tragedy isn’t the love that’s gone; it’s the child who hears every shout, feels every crack. I wrote this as a quiet plea: when we falter, let’s not break innocence too. Leaving here is protection, not escape. What do you think—how do we shield the silent ones?

Video Transcript
This is from a YouTube video I made—me and an AI voice reading the poem, plus some reflections:
Hello everyone. This poem reflects on a marriage dissolving and a child’s innocence caught in it. When adults struggle, kids often witness it silently. This is their unheard pain. Let’s start.
For the Sake of Innocence
The Hidden Pain of a Troubled Child
Never trouble the child. Far worse is a troubled child.
It was a troubled marriage,
It was recent, this heart upheave,
Trying to save it, there was no rage,
For the only child I have.
Was in love with a heartthrob,
For ten long years, enjoyed every moment,
A high-pressure job,
Wouldn’t let go or relent.
There were emotions strong,
It was all love and joy, without any ill will,
Now there is dispassion, know that this is wrong,
Still didn’t harbor any ill.
The child was listening, trembling,
To all the heated, vain arguments, the situation went grave,
Why harm an innocent heart, compel suffering?
It is time to pack the minimum and leave.
Mads:
This captures a marriage unraveling, past love’s weight, and a child’s quiet suffering. It opens with a plea—never trouble a child—because their wounds don’t heal easy. Love thrived once, then faded under work and time. No bitterness, just a choice to shield what’s fragile.
AI Female:
The heart is the child—listening, trembling, in the storm of conflict. They don’t just hear; they feel it, carry it. ‘Pack the minimum and leave’ isn’t escape—it’s protection, breaking the cycle before they break. What cost do we pay when a child suffers for us?
Mads:
How often do we see these silent watchers? They don’t choose our fights, yet they bear them. Tell me your thoughts below. If this resonates, check my YouTube for more. Share it if you want. Thanks for listening.
What this poem holds:
💔 Love’s bloom to dispassion
💔 Work and strain pulling bonds apart
💔 A child’s unseen pain in the noise
💔 Choosing to leave for their sake

Okay... creepy because this literally came up on my FB timeline from ELEVEN YEARS AGO. ... STILL STAND BY MY STORY BUT HOLY GUACAMOLE
youtube
Bustopher Jones in ... the Princess Louise???
It'd be wrong if we sent our costumes out without testing them first. Like for science. To make sure they don't fall apart or something.
This has nothing to do with playing a prank on our dear friend Nathan Patrick Morgan, who I may or may not call Catatafish and may or may not have shown up to his Phantom/Piangi debut wearing a shirt that read MATHAN PATRICK NORGAN, that's my story, I'm sticking to it. (We did some little silly thing where David was Alonzo and I did Yurio from Yuri On Ice and he started dancing. I think I was the one who suggested he do some of the Jellicle Ball as Bustopher. Princess Louise is David's favorite part to dance!)
