[Glamrock Baby AU]
Note: This AU is under development and some things may change in the future. I also apologize for any mistakes or awkward phrasing; English is not my first language.
As described by Fazbear’s Entertainment:
“She can sing, she can dance, she knows all the mathematical formulas, she can even make ice cream.”
“This young and awesome rock star has a bright future ahead of her. She’s cool, popular, and always dependable. Having difficulties with your homework? No fear, Big Sis Baby is here! Learn, play, and watch her ridiculously epic performances on stage! And don’t forget to purchase her new Baby’s specials! Delicious dairy delights are waiting for you.”
Animatronic descriptions:
Glamrock or Daycare Baby is a 4’4 feet or 1.32 meters tall animatronic with a middle schooler’s proportions. She has bright red hair modeled as curly pigtails and bangs reminiscent of melting ice cream. The upside down cones on top of her head supports the idea. The cones stay in place with the help of a cone-holder, which increases her height by a few centimeters. Her eyes are light blue and have a subtle glow which gets more noticeable the darker it gets. There are two markings on her face, one of a pink heart and another one of a yellow star. She has a small red nose and her mouth can open and close, although it is always curved upwards into a smile. There are noticeable sections on her face despite them not being able to be opened without tools. She wears a sleeveless light blue shirt which shows her stomach where there is a stomach hatch that can be opened. The shirt has a white collar and a pink heart on the left side. She also has a tie with a waffle cone pattern. Her stomach hatch is in the shape of an upside down heart. Her skirt is 80’s patterns inspired with three main colors of red, yellow and blue, and three accent colors of brow, white and purple. She wears white socks and red shoes which vaguely resemble clown shoes. There is a star at the back of each shoe. Her “backpack” is dark blue and has a holder for her microphone, which is also a recorder and speaker, that is shaped like a cone ice cream.
Functionality and role:
-Baby’s backpack is actually an ice cream machine which can be removed. It and the microphone amongst other things can be controlled by Baby if there is a pink heart symbol on them. This is a technology unique to Baby although it shares similarities with Bluetooth, so it is called Sweet-tooth. Once attached, liquid poured into Baby’s mouth is transported into the ice cream machine which is of course turned into ice cream. Then, it is dispensed through a tube into Baby’s stomach where there is a “scooper” meant to hold the ice cream. After that, she opens her hatch and places the ice cream into a cone. This mechanic is only a fun gimmick and is not used for any real monetary purposes. The cost of said gimmick is more than made up for by actual dessert sales and school supplies sales that she heavily promotes.

[A poster of Glamrock Baby advertising school supplies]

[A standee of Glamrock Baby advertising dairy]
-She was conceived by Fazbear’s Entertainment as a way to clear Circus Baby’s image as well as cover up the tragedy with Elizabeth Afton. Instead of being 7 feet tall, she is just 4’4 feet, no where near big enough to fit a child inside. There is also no face plates or scary claw hiding in her stomach.
-She is one of the re-newed Funtime animatronics which are used in the daycare. If there was a ranking system, they would be under Sun and Moon. Although, Baby also has some command over the new Funtimes.
Other lore bits:

[A poster or standee of Glamrock Baby advertising her show]
-Her Daycare stage is located right outside the slide entrance into the daycare. She has her own elevator that she can take to go down there.

[A wall painting of Glamrock Baby encouraging kids to stay in school]
-She is popular amongst young kids, mostly because she solves their homework but there are other reasons as well. For example, she is an older sister figure for toddlers, young enough to be relatable and just old enough to be cool and not intimidating.
-She is close with Sun, often helping him in the daycare. They enjoy playing hide and seek with the kids, which is when her microphone comes in handy. She uses it to distract them and stir them in another direction. However, she is not very fond of Moon and is a bit scared of him. Sometimes, he mistakes her for a human child.
-In the storyline, she plays an ally role towards Gregory, helping him distract other animatronics and find solutions. This part is still in development so I don’t have much here yet.
-She can be considered possessed by a spirit. However, the spirit is not aggressive. She knows of the existence of said spirit and can actually communicate with it. You probably all know who it is but let’s just play pretend.

modern au bertholdt headcanons! ( ◠‿◠ )
a/n - really unedited!!! also wrote this on one go! and my first post on here so enjoy!!! a little angsty and also inspired me to write a lot more posts so !!!!! enjoy :D
100% believe bert would be a STEM major!! engineering to be more specific!!
^^definitely not the type to hate women and to have never felt the warmth of a woman before tho that’s forsure 😭 just the super smart type who’s good at math but is shit at writing essays :/
so I guess not super smart but smart in the mathematical aspects
you two have an agreement, you help him write essays and he helps you with any of your math homework 😼😼😼
i think this may be a common hc for my beloved but he gets along great with his father!! really sees him as his role model and a man he aspires to be once he figures out his whole life thing
his father was a commercial pilot and would take him out on flights when he was younger but stopped once his health started to get worse :(
so bertholdt semi knows how to fly a plane just from seeing his father and would like to actually learn in honor of his father
when bertholdt was a child, he was really interested in planes and trains and things of that sort
which kinda prompted him to be interested in engineering
he would like to design and build a plane in honor of his father :'))
and also wants to create a more stable and environment friendly way of transportation
but apart of him wants to pursue biomedical engineering as well, because of the lack of support and poor care his father received
a lot of his career aspirations are not really his own but based around his father
which kinda fucks him up in the head the more he thinks abt it :/
so he just chooses not to :< which will also not do him any good either :(
I guess even in a modern au, bertholdt is destined to live a life of despair :|
he’s definitely not as super awkward as a lot of the fics on here make him out to be, awkward yes, but mostly just the quiet reserved shy guy type!!
he just doesn’t know what to say so he doesn’t say anything, which is a big problem for him :(
he has a lot on his mind most of the time but can’t find the words to express his thoughts, hence why he’s so bad at writing essays, but also why he has some sort of passion for math.
because math is a way of communicating abstract ideas that our brains can ‘decrypt’ and can unlock hidden truths that cannot be otherwise understood or discovered
^^because if he cannot understand the abstract puzzles of his own mind, at least he can understand something as equally as abstract like math
and that gives him some sort of hope of one day understanding his own puzzle.
:') alright enough w the angst!
bertholdt is really good with his hands!!! (in that way too ;)
they’re just really nimble and longggg
he can fix anything and is also into pottery!
need to put together your new desk? bertholdt will have it done in 40 minutes, WITHOUT reading the instructions 😎
need to mount up your tv? just call bertholdt!
your laptop can’t stop bugging? give it to bertholdt and he’ll update it for you as well!!
can also design really intricate blueprints of projects he would like to work on
but can’t really draw anything artsy :( and is sad abt it
not very creative in the arts but has creative thinking when it comes to stem based subjects
which is why he’s into pottery! because he feels like that’s his only way to be creative in the arts!!
he’s kinda like seth rogen (not personality wise pls 😭) but when it comes to pottery, that man is an 👏🏽artist👏🏽
makes a lot of really unique and pretty vases and is honestly thinking of starting a career out of pottery but apart of him feels like it’s useless :(
bertholdt is mediterranean! greek to be more specific!
though his father’s mother migrated to germany and married a german man, hence why he has a really germanic last and first name, bertholdt’s father migrated to america and married a greek woman! making bertholdt mostly greek and a little german (probably mixed w other stuff too)
has a really big extended family but I can see him as an only child or the middle child
also the tallest member of his family
and is related to pieck! (I hc pieck as greek too!)
i can also see him being related to udo as well
omg!!!!!!!! pieck being bertholdts coool and chill older sister 😎 bertholdt being the middle sibling :'( and udo being the youngest!!!!!!!!!! ahhh!!!!! gonna create a separate post for their sibling dynamic just u wait.........
this may be more of an ick than a hc but bertholdt does have a reddit account 😭😭
I SWEAR HE’S NOT A WEIRD INCEL NEVER TOUCHED GRASS DOUCHEBAG ALRIGHT
I HAVE A REDDIT TOO OKAY SO IM SPEAKING FROM EXPERIENCE
certain subreddits on there are actually really helpful and wholesome!! and some are really interesting!! bertholdt is usually on those ones lurking!!
okay okay okay sometimes he does post but just asking for help or venting to strangers on r/OffMyChest :(
wants to start reading philosophy but feels like he’ll come off as pretentious (he won’t!!!) and feels like it would just make him even more sad and confused
another common hc but best friends with reiner and annie ofc!! but once they start college, they become friends and make one big friend group with the rest of the warriors (porco, marcel, colt, pieck, zeke) and with the rest of the 104th maybe (might make a separate post for what it’s like to be in this friend group!!!)
also may be a little out of character but i can see bertholdt being a college athlete just so he can go to college for free (doesn’t apply if college is already free in ur country but I live in the united states so rip :/)
he doesn’t see it as a career though, just can’t afford tuition sadly
so he doesn’t try as hard as a lot of his teammates, just enough so he won’t seem too special to be drafted
also please tell me this isn’t what bertholdt would look like in real life 😭😭 maybe not exactly and his face would be a bit longer but close enough 😁
overall bertholdt is really just the sweetest and I’m in love with him and he deserves the world :)

speaking of college boys, what do the college au aot babies study??
Okay, okay, I think I’ve talked about this in an ask before but I can’t find it 😭😭 but it’s okay, I love college aus, so I’ll talk about it again! Plus, now I’ve got more thoughts for more characters, so here we go
Levi — neuroscience and psychology of human behavior
He started out on track to do a bachelor of arts in psychology, but when they touched on the anatomy and biological parts of it during his first year lecture, he switched to a bachelor of science.
The focus is still psychology, but through a more clinical lens. Essentially, he gets the best of both worlds this way. He’s intuitive and analytical, so clinical and mental diagnosis is easy to dissect for him. He’s also canonically good at math, so the calculus and stats parts aren’t too bad, either.
This major also leaves him with a few options post-grad, which is a nice bonus for him. He’s likely going to medical school, but that’s not the only route open to him: law school, therapy, lab work, medicine and pharmacy, even teaching are all viable options without going to grad school.
Do not talk to him about Freud unless you wanna get punted off a building.
Be careful with him, because with a single glance he’s already got scarily accurate predictions about your parental and emotional attachment styles, your behavior in social settings, and the onset (or seemingly lack thereof) of your frontal lobe development.
He thinks he’s so smart making comments like, “I see those synaptic connections aren’t working so well for you today,” like mf come here let me lobotomize you and see how well your synaptic connects are working after that🙄
Eren — general health sciences
He’s interested in science and the discovery aspects of it, but picking a specific field of focus right now feels too final. He likes it this way, because his schedule and requirements are less restrictive, and he has more room to find out what really interests him.
He does best when he’s doing something he loves, so picking a major with a bunch of reqs that he couldn’t care less about would have sucked big time for him. It also would have affected his grades. There are still some classes he has to take that he’s not fond of (see: chemistry), but that’s to be expected. Science in general is cool to him and he hopes to make his own discovery some day, even if it’s microscopic.
He also plays a lot of sports, keeping his schedule flexible is important. The sports end up helping him excel academically, which is a nice bonus. Honestly, Eren uses his time at university to learn more about himself than anything, so having control and freedom to do what he likes the majority of the time was important to him.
He uses his elective credits to take philosophy or history courses of his interest, or maybe even a course that you’re in just to spend time with you. He also uses you as a live model for his homework bye, congrats on being patient number one to him.
Armin — astronomy and physics
He’s still interested in marine biology, but unless he attended a school near a coast, or with a specialized integrated program for that, it’s unlikely he’d major in it during undergrad.
Space and ocean exploration aren’t all that different. Both are vast, largely unexplored domains that reel-in Armin’s interest for discovery. So, while studying astronomy, he still gets to study evolution and make his own predictions about what could be out there because there’s so much to know.
Physics comes with the territory of learning about planetary science, and he’s mathematically inclined, so it works out for him. Learning about the different physical properties of other planets and space masses is honestly pretty sick to him. Because math isn’t a struggle, he actually considered aeronautical engineering, but he didn’t want to be a part of the college to military pipeline; that is, he didn’t want any potential design of his to be weaponized.
He still gets to study animal biology through his elective courses, and might even find a few focused on marine animals to satiate him. Plant and cell biology are also of interest to him, and are just further applications of his primary study anyway, so he’s got plenty of room to work with.
This boy is interning at NASA and still, with his whole chest out is like, “I don’t need to discover a new planet, you’re my whole world.” Armin, go check on the Mars rover or something please.
Mikasa — anthropology + minor in japanese language studies
Anthropology is virtually interdisciplinary in nature, and Mikasa is a pretty well rounded student, so she’s able to excel in a program like this. She gets to study history, science, cultural studies, and even a bit of art all at once.
She’s still debating between going to law school vs med school, so anthro this is a good in-betweener. She gets a taste of science through her anatomy and kin courses; and lots of practice with reading and dissecting texts through the historical and cultural lectures. So, when the time comes to decide, she’ll have some experience with both.
Don’t know whether it’s confirmed that she’s (part) Japanese or not, but either way I headcanon that she speaks/spoke some second language at home. She wanted to delve more into it, and courses were offered at the university so why not?
Cultural studies courses end up being her favorite. She likes learning about the history of people and their cultures, and it encourages her to learn more about her own family history and culture. It also propels her to apply for a study abroad opportunity, so she spends at least one semester doing an exchange program and absolutely loves it.
She would also encourage you to apply and go, too. You guys might not be in the same program, but if there’s an applicable program in the same country she’s going to, then she’d definitely want you to apply. Spending the semester away with you would be a dream come true.
Hange — bioengineering + minor in political philosophy and law
It’s almost self-sabotage to be in an engineering program and have a minor; the coursework for engineering alone is backbreaking, and bioengineering has the added weight of human intricacies, but of course Hange makes it possible.
They’re nothing short of a genius, so of course they have time to work a completely unrelated minor into their schedule. It doesn’t surprise anyone that they go on to complete an MD-PhD after undergrad. Insane.
Bioengineering is essentially the synthesis of chemical engineering and health sciences; Hange spends their time exploring biological sciences and applies the engineering aspects of their coursework to their understanding of (and interest in creating) medicine. Truly a one of a kind mind.
They also have an interest in philosophy and justice, so when they found out they only needed a measly nine or ten courses to minor in, they went for it, of course. In honesty, they don’t find the studies all that opposing: both law making and medicine making both have some kind of philosophy or method to them in their eyes.
Hange has... little to no free time pls. They don’t mind it, because they love their coursework, but this means you are essentially ducking into their labs or scrambling to find them in-between their classes during your time in undergrad. They appreciate every second spent with you tho, and will gladly rope you into long discussions about their work.
Jean — biochemistry + minor in art sustainability
He was undeclared his first year, and took a little bit of everything: art, science, history, anthropology, english. Basically, anything that fit into his schedule. It was hard for him to pick one thing—he liked the science and lab applications of STEM courses, but not the math; and the obvious painting and creativity of art, but hated the pretentious air about art history.
What he wants to do is make a difference, which is how he ends up knowing that he wants to go to med school after, so he picks a science-heavy major, but uses his elective spaces to take art courses. When he mixes the two, he ends up on sustainability—and the complexities about it that are applicable to both science and art are what really reels him in.
Interdisciplinary studies end up being his forte. He can approach sustainability from a science perspective which impacts his art style and materials; and tuning into his creative side allows him to think about science not just from a purely clinical perspective, but from a human one, too—patients are people after all.
He believes that everything is connected somehow, even things as seemingly opposite as art and biochemistry. And he works towards finding the unique intersection where everything overlaps. His studies are pretty cool, and he’s very passionate about them, so ask him about it 😌
The art he makes is pretty sick, too, and often commentary about science; he’s proving they’re not so opposite. You also heavily influence his studies in both areas: caring about you so much inspires him to take the healthcare focus seriously, and your very nature is inspiration to his art.
Sasha — nursing
She’s friendly and good at working with people, so nursing was an easy choice for her. She accredits most of her motivation to being around her younger family members, and learns that she finds a simple kind of joy in helping to take care of others.
She struggles a bit her first year when it’s mostly all grades and standardized testing, but when she starts getting clinical experience and working in the hospital on campus, things round out for her.
Patient care is her strongest point. A lot of people often forget that knowing everything isn’t everything; if you don’t know how to calm or even just talk to your patient, you’re not that great of a healthcare professional.
Pretty certain that she wants to work with kids in the future, but she’s open to public health and even being a travel nurse if she finds opportunity there!
Of course, she’s pretty doting when it comes to you and all her friends. She might want to go into pediatrics, but the basics of nursing and health care extend to everyone, so you’re guaranteed to be well taken care of with Sasha around. You might even have to switch roles and take care of her sometimes, because her coursework can get pretty out of hand.
Connie — computer engineering with a focus on game design
He might not look it, but Connie has a brain under that shaved head of his. Computer engineering is cool to him because he basically learns about how simple things he uses every day (ie: phone, computer, microwave) works.
Systems and coding are actually the easy part for him, especially when they get into the application of it and aren’t just stuck looking at examples. That’s how he gets into game design.
The part about math and electricity and magnetic fields… well let’s just say he needed to make friends with someone who likes math and hardware his first year to get through it. But the struggle was worth it, because by his junior year he’s found a professor willing to mentor/supervise him as he works on his game and other projects, so life is good.
His school work is definitely hard, which is why the lives by the mantra of “work hard, party harder.” It’s only fair.
He makes you a little avatar so you can test out his games for him <33 best boyfriend things <33 He’d also… build a game about your relationship. Every level is a different date you guys went on, and he definitely includes something cheesy, like “There are unlimited lives because I love you forever babe <3”
Porco — kinesiology + maybe mechanical engineering
He’s pretty into athletics and working out, but didn’t wanna go down the sports psychology route; he wanted something that left him with a few more options, so he ended up in kinesiology.
He was surprisingly pretty good at biology in high school, so something stem-oriented works out in his favor, and it turns out he’s pretty damn good at anatomy, too. He’ll probably end up in physical therapy after graduation.
He’s also got a knack for cars, which is where the engineering comes in, but he doesn’t care so much for the math part of it (he doesn’t care for it at all actually, fuck that); he just wants the hands on experience of building/fixing things and working with his hands. So, if he can get a minor in it and not struggle through 4 years of math, then he’d do that. If not, he’d take a few workshop-like classes.
Because he wants to go into physical therapy, you are essentially his practice patient. Your back hurts? Not a problem, he’s basically a professional masseuse. Muscle aches? He’s got a remedy and understanding of why it’s happening. Don’t let him catch you hunting over your desk grinding away at your homework, because he will poke your neck and correct your posture (he’ll also massage your shoulders, but after the scolding).
Pieck — classics + minor in philosophy
Ancient studies interest her, but more than that, the language of ancient Greek and Roman culture fascinates her, so classics is the way to go.
Because her focus within Classics ends up being Greek and Latin language studies, she is essentially learning both languages at the same time. She gets farther with Latin that she does with Greek. For whatever reason, the former comes almost naturally to her, so her written and translated work is more complex in Latin.
However, she finds cultural studies relation to Greece more interesting than that of Rome, so it’s a give and take with both; better at languages for Roman studies, better at culture and history for Greek studies.
Her minor is a natural evolution from her primary coursework. Ancient Romans and Greeks set the foundation for a lot of modern day philosophy, so it comes up in her major classes, but she wanted to delve further into the philosophy, and not just look at it historically, so she takes more courses to fulfill the minor.
Can be found laying on a blanket in the quad on a hot day, with her books spread out all around her, highlighter in hand as she works through her reading. You’re always invited to sit with her, and more often than not, it ends up with Pieck’s head in your lap, a book in her hands, and your own schoolwork in yours as you both read in each other’s company.
Bertholdt — computer science and coding
He’s level headed, good at planning, and above all, patient, so he’s cut out for this. He doesn’t consider himself to be particularly creative, which is why he doesn’t pick a speciality with lots of design; but he’s good at streamlining and ideas to life.
The patience really comes in when his code doesn’t run. It’s frustrating to scroll for two hours just to find out that the issue is a missing semi-colon in line 273 that he overlooked, but Berty will sit there until he finds it.
He’s also good at fixing issues. That’s not limited to issues in the code itself; it can mean finding shorter ways to produce the same function or loop, or integrating new aspects into existing code.
Also, he’d just be so cute, coding away on his computer. Just imagine: Berty working on his homework in the library, he’s got his signature crewneck + collared shirt look going for him, his blue-light glasses, a cup of coffee nearly as tall as him sitting at the corner of his desk. Adorable.
He’d make little codes/programs for you, too, even if it’s silly. A simple code that helps you decide what to eat for dinner or where to go on a date, one that shuffles different reminders for you, hell he’ll even forgo the torture of design engineering just to build you a little robot that says “I love you” to you.
Reiner — english + minor in justice & political philosophy
Everyone expects Reiner, star quarterback of the university’s rugby team, to be a business student or communications student; but no, he’s an English major, and he loves it.
Just imagine a guy as huge as Reiner absolutely manhandling someone on the field, just to show up in his lectures with a tiny paperback of The Great Gatsby tucked between his fingers with his reading glasses on. It’s so precious.
He’s always running a bit late to class—either coming from the gym, or practice, or oversleeping from exhaustion—but he’s so sweet to his professors and genuinely interested in the literature that they don’t give him a hard time about it. They can tell that balancing school and sports is difficult, and they just appreciate that he takes his studies seriously.
Yeah he’s in a book club and he dog-ears his books. What about it. They’re doing poetry this month and Reiner actually likes Edgar Allen Poe. Who said jocks can’t be sentimental.
He also reads a lot outside of his classes, and has a soft spot for coming of age stories. He usually empathizes with the main character somehow. His ideal weekend plans after a week of grueling games and essays is taking a long, relaxing shower at your place, while you both share a bottle of wine, and maybe even get you to read a chapter or two of his current book out loud to him.
Annie — clinical psychology/neuroscience
Almost scarily analytical and methodic, so this major was calling her name. Localizing brain legions is… insanely intuitive to her it’s incredible. She’ll be an insanely impressive doctor someday, even if she doesn’t end up working with patients directly.
She doesn’t care too much for the more philosophical/reading heavy parts of psychology. Even experiments and research closer to the social end of the spectrum aren’t all that interesting to her; but the brain science behind it it.
Nobody should be good at cellular biology. Nobody should be able to ace cell bio and neuro and calc and work towards their thesis proposal in the same semester, but Annie proves it’s possible.
Ends up working in one of her professor’s labs by her junior year. She was offered three TA positions working with first year students, but she swiftly turned them down. Teaching isn’t her thing.
She doesn’t bring up her studies to you unprompted, but if you ask her about them she’ll explain it to you. Her notes are color coded and it’s super neat, and very cute; coloring them is somewhat relaxing for her. She usually saves the coloring part for when you guys study together; there’s extra comfort in doing it with you around.

Chukyo University’s Uno Itsuki, out of the box and at his own discretion, promoting the appeal of Hockey while supporting Uno Shoma
Asano Yumi || 2022/10/07

He’s actually someone who’s multi-talented. Sometimes he’s Chukyo University’s field hockey athlete, and sometimes he’s the manager of his brother Uno Shoma (Toyota Motor Corporation), who’s a World Champion in figure skating, and sometimes he’s a YouTuber who features daily life with his beloved dogs. A free man who’s out of the box. That is Uno Itsuki (3rd year, Nagoya International Junior & Senior High School)
Stood out as an Athlete, Model, and Interpreter
In contrast to his brother, who is 4 years older and mastering the path of figure skating, Itsuki had a blossoming talent in hockey. Starting with ice hockey at a young age, he switched to hockey in his first year of junior high school. He was chosen as a junior youth representative from Central Japan, and even in high school, he joined Aichi Prefecture National Team and was a member of the starting line-up from his first year. He was also the captain of the team for 3 years. He’s also part of the Hockey Club at Chukyo University and he’s currently pouring sweat to get promoted to Kansai League First Division.
“I don’t like doing ordinary things.” The foundation for that “out-of-the-box way of life” was laid when he was an elementary school student. He chose to take the junior high school entrance exam on his own, and got admitted into Nagoya International Junior & Senior High School to join the Hockey Club, despite his lack of experience.
While he was competing, he was also modeling for advertisements and appearing on TV shows. He stood out, doing things such as accompanying his older brother to competitions overseas and interpreting for him in English.
Academically he was good at English, Mathematics and Japanese. He helped tutor his classmates. He gave them advice during entrance exam season using his own interview experience, on how to answer interviews and write reasons for applying. “In my first year in Junior High School I would help Shoma with his high school homework and solve them. That might have improved me academically (laughs)”
He’s athletic and good at ball games in general. (Photography: Asano Yumi)
A Fulfilling Campus Life in Chukyo University
The way he picked a university is also very Uno-like. He could have aimed to get in Japanese National Hockey Team and picked powerhouses like Ritsumeikan University or Tenri University but what he chose was Chukyo University in his hometown. His reasoning was because “I wanted to continue playing hockey while enjoying university life rather than trying to master the sport.” He made the decision in his second year of high school.
Chukyo University is in Kansai League Second Division with 13 club members. They practice 4 times a week when they have classes, and 6 times a week at other times. They practice hard with the goal of being promoted to First Division. They participated in Intercollegiate Competition last season and finished in the Top 16.
He talked about his playing style in Chukyo University. “It changes from year to year but there were several good players a year above me and my playing style was to support them. Right now, I get along well with those a year below me and I’m confident in our cooperation.”
He values the time he spends with his friends outside of the field as well. He goes out to eat with the other club members after morning practice, or gets together with them at their houses to play games. He enjoys campus life fully saying, “University life is really fulfilling”
Uno Itsuki while playing. ( From his personal archive, photography by MY HOCKEY)
The Unseen Side of a 20-year-old Who Supports the World Champion
Shoma, who pushed forward on the path of figure skating and became the world champion and Itsuki, who lives freely, expanding his range of activities in fields other than hockey. Two people with different talents. He talks about what they have in common with a laugh. “We’re better at games than sports.”
As for their differences, Itsuki has exceptional reflexes and the ability to immediately imitate something. When he checked his reflexes in a First Person Shooter (FPS) game, which makes someone feel as if they were on the battlefield, he said, "I had a judgement that’s at the same level as AI (Artificial Intelligence).”
Hockey, which requires instant judgment during play, can make use of that reflex. On the other hand, he respects Shoma. “I think Shoma has a high spatial awareness. Just by looking at the distance, he can tell how much power he needs to jump how far. I’m always surprised by it.”
He was able to become a top player in less than a year after starting hockey because he had "a talent to immediately imitate things."
He says even his older brother would envy how receptive he is to techniques. He recalls that “At the beginning it took me some time to learn the rules but I am good at imitating what I see. I learned by watching my classmates who have been playing hockey since kindergarten.”
He’s always been curious in nature. “I’m the type of person who wants to try this and that, and no matter what I do, it doesn’t last long. That side of me is the opposite of my older brother, who’s just been skating for a long time. For me, hockey is something I’ve done for a long time. Shoma’s a genius who can work hard. He silently keeps practicing on his own when it’s about skating. He can continue to devote himself to the same sport. Being around him made me realize that hard work is also a talent.”

He wants to popularize hockey in Japan.
In Japan, hockey may be listed as one of the "minor sports" where people know of it’s name but not the rules in detail. Uno wants to make hockey more popular. He says in order to achieve that, it’s necessary to have an environment where hockey can be played on a daily basis, and for Japanese athletes who can compete internationally to emerge.
Uno who studied overseas in Australia in his 3rd Year at Junior High School, was surprised at how close hockey was to his surroundings.
“There would be hockey games on TV when I watched it, and there are four or five hockey grounds within biking distance where professional games are being played. Maybe you can call it culture, but I think there’s a difference between what I’ve seen in my life until then. Just like how Japan watches soccer or baseball on TV, that was hockey for Australia. The footage is also easier to watch with highlights, rather than watching the competition the whole time. I think more people would watch it if there were parts like ‘It was close here’ or ‘This play was good’.”
And to raise the level of competitiveness. “I think it will be difficult (to get people interested in hockey) unless there is a Japanese player on the level of Shohei Ohtani in baseball.”
A player of the same generation that he is paying attention to is Daiki Takade (3rd year, Tenri) of Ritsumeikan University, who he had a friendly rivalry with on the same team in junior high school. He also has the experience of being a candidate for the Japan Youth Junior National Team. He sends him his support saying, “He’s an athlete I respect. I want him to keep getting better and become a representative of Japan.”
“I did the right thing by choosing Chukyo University” he says with a smile. (Photography: Asano Yumi) Even if he is not a top player, Uno has communication skills and is in a position to convey the appeal of hockey. “I would accept jobs regarding Hockey non-stop if there were any offers.” he says with enthusiasm. He describes its appeal by saying: “I think the appeal is in the speed, when it comes to watching hockey. As a competitor, it's a different kind of difficulty than other competitions. It’s not the type of sports where you can do something well as soon as you start, so you get better at it little by little. That was what intrigued me.” He’s thinking about contributing to the awareness of hockey in the future.
Who will Uno Itsuki be?
Uno also runs a YouTube channel “Uno1 Wan Channel Uno Itsuki”. He shares his life with four toy poodle dogs, and has around 51,000 subscribers. Contents that are popular among figure skating fans include his older brother playing with their beloved dogs, and the latest reports on competitions and ice shows. Uno is in charge from the composition of the videos to filming and editing.
Recently, he he’s also learning to be a manager. In August, he accompanied his older brother to an ice show where he learned the basics from a manager he’s acquainted with. “I think it would be nice to support Shoma while he's actively competing. Things like interpretation, taking care of his things, and looking after the dogs. I want Shoma to focus on competitions, and also I want to make time for him to play with the dogs since he’s quite healed by them.
About his career after graduating: “I think I should think about it a little more.” (Photography: Asano Yumi) A hockey athlete, a manager for his older brother, YouTuber... What kind of career will the 20-year-old, who is active in various fields, paint for himself from now on? His classmates are job searching. However Uno shyly said: “I'm doing a lot of things to increase the number of career paths I can take. I think I should think about it a little more. People tell me that they can't imagine what I'll be in the future." Where will he make the best use of his limited time as a student-athlete to shine his rich talent next? He doesn’t need to fit in. He should do out of the box things at his own discretion. The possibilities for Uno Itsuki are endless. Source

Improbability
Rowaelin Month, Day 26: You’re seeing my roommate and accidentally walked into my shower. Featuring Sam and Rowan as roommates. :)))
Word count: 1542
Warnings: language, little bit of math gobbledygook that I stole from my stats class.
Enjoy!
~~~~
“Mate, you alright with my girlfriend coming over today?” Sam called out to his roommate. “We’re probably going out, but I asked her over here first.”
Rowan pulled out one of his earbuds and stuck his head out his bedroom door. “Yeah, that’s totally fine, just for God’s sake warn me if you’re going to do the dirty on our couch, bud.”
“THAT WAS ONE TIME!” Sam yelled, “and I was 100 percent sure you had football!”
“It’s called soccer, Cortland!” Rowan laughed, never missing the chance to poke at his British roommate.
“Whatever, mate. You’re good with Ae hanging out here for a bit, yeah?”
“Sure am. She’s a fun person.” Rowan put his earbud back in and returned to doing his homework, or rather, swearing at his statistics textbook. Some fifteen minutes later, he heard the door of his and Sam’s dorm open.
“Anybody home?” enquired a throaty female voice. “Someone told me he was at home, but obviously he’s too busy to go out today. Guess I’ll just go drink with the girls, then.”
“And leave me lonely?” Sam asked.
Aelin Galathynius, who’d been dating Sam for almost two years now, smiled. “Never.”
He returned the grin and pulled her into the living room, where their conversation faded into a blur of noise too dim for Rowan to interpret. Not that he minded…much. Aelin was hilarious, though, and he loved hearing her make cracks at Sam’s British habits, her friends, her day, and pretty much anything else she thought deserved a snarky comment.
Slamming his stats book closed, Rowan huffed a sigh and decided that he could use a quick shower to relax a little before heading out to training. He grabbed his towel and a bar of soap and went into the tiny dorm shower, which was low enough that he, at 6’3,” had to crouch to fit under the shower head. Grumbling to himself about the stupidity of whatever idiot architect designed dormitory showers, he stood under the stream of hot water and tried to make sense of all he still had to do. Which was too much. After somewhere around five minutes, he stuck his head out of the shower, realizing the dorm had gone awfully quiet.
Maybe Sam and Aelin were out, then, he thought.
Rowan turned off the shower and reached for his towel, giving himself a quick dry-off before stepping out. He was just wrapping the towel around his waist when the door swept open.
“Oh, shit, sorry, I didn’t realize you were in here!” gasped Aelin.
Rowan gaped at her, forgetting that the only thing between her and a prime view of what he may or may not have been doing in the shower was a dark green bath towel.
A too-thin green bath towel.
Aelin’s turquoise eyes traveled down his frame, decidedly not missing a single detail. A pink flush spread over her cheekbones, and she hastily backed out of the bathroom and shut the door with a firm click.
Rowan swallowed whatever he’d thought he might have said and told his raging male hormones to calm the hell down. Quickly, before anyone else could walk in on him, he pulled on his practice jersey and sweats and went back to his room, where he grabbed his soccer bag and hauled ass for the gym.
He spent the entire 90-minute workout trying and miserably failing to get the image of Aelin Galathynius in her unfairly attractive blouse and miniskirt blushing at his nearly-nude self out of his mind. When he got back to his dorm, having showered in the locker room, this time without anyone interrupting, Sam and Aelin were gone. Sam had left a note on his bedroom door, stating that he’d probably be back around three. Checking his watch, Rowan groaned. It was almost two, and he’d broken down and signed up for stats tutoring at four.
He just hoped that whoever the tutor was, they’d be able to help him get his mathematical shit together and pass the course.
~
Two hours later, Rowan walked into the library and took a seat in the study room marked with a sign that read “STATS 320 TUTORING 4 PM.” Nobody else was there, but to be fair, he was a little early. He plopped his textbook, notebook, and calculator onto the table and waited.
And nearly fell off his chair when Aelin Galathynius walked into the room.
“What the hell?”
“What the hell, what?” she asked, obviously amused at his reaction.
“I--I didn’t expect to see you here, that’s what the hell. You here for tutoring too?”
“Yes and no.” Rowan blinked in confusion. Aelin’s little smirk grew bigger. “I am the tutor, Rowan. You’re here for my assistance…and expertise.” She winked.
He felt himself flush at the image that conjured. “Yeah, expertise, in stats, right?” He knew full well he was stammering like a fourteen-year-old on his first date, but that about summed up how his roommate’s girlfriend made him feel right now.
“Correct.” Just like that, Aelin was all business. She set her backpack down, closed the door, and sat across from Rowan. “So. How can I help?”
He sighed. “I’m stuck. I need this class, it’s the last math I have to take for my major, I’m usually decent at math, and I’m fucking stuck on a concept my professor said was fucking simple.”
Aelin listened to his mini rant without comment. She pulled out her own stats notebook and calculator from her backpack and slipped on a pair of glasses. Rowan cocked his head.
“I didn’t know you wore glasses.”
“Reading glasses, Whitethorn. I’m supposed to wear them whenever I’m reading, on my laptop, or studying, but do I? Hell no.” She grinned. “Don’t tell my optometrist.”
“Given that I don’t know them, no problem.” He returned her grin.
She flexed her fingers and turned her attention to Rowan’s math. “Right, big bad soccer boy. Where are you stuck?”
He flipped his book to the section on conditional probability distributions. “Here. I took notes, and it seemed logical enough, but I completely tanked the quiz we just had, and I don’t know where I went wrong.”
Aelin scanned the quiz. “You’re reading the graphs wrong.”
“What?”
“Conditional probability is the probability of an event occurring given that a certain condition is satisfied.” She opened her notebook to a blank page and drew a horizontal line. “Any time you see a condition, that condition goes in the denominator.” She pointed to one of the problems he’d answered wrong on the quiz. “What’s this question asking you to determine?”
“Probability that a student chosen at random is an engineer given that the selected student is female.”
“Right. So, you take the condition, the ‘given,’ and put that number in the denominator. Remember you’re only looking at the row labeled ‘female,’ because that’s the condition. Once the condition’s written in, you find the other part of the question, in this case the number of female engineers. Put that number in the numerator, divide by the denominator, and there you have the probability. Does that make sense?”
“Condition in the denominator…” Rowan mumbled, writing it in his notes. He looked up at Aelin and smacked his hand flat on the table. “Aelin, I’m a fucking idiot. I spent so much time trying to look at the totals that I didn’t remember to keep the condition, I--goddammit, I’m stupid.”
“You’re not stupid, Rowan, lots of people struggle with conditional probability at first.”
“I’ll bet you didn’t.”
“Oh, I did. A lot.”
“Really? But you just explained this shit to me better than my professor.”
“I…I happen to like stats. Might be part of my major description, but I just find working with the numbers extremely satisfying.”
“What’s your major?” he asked, intrigued.
“Don’t judge me.”
“Nope. Promise.”
“I’m in finance.”
His eyebrows shot up. “I’m impressed.”
She blushed. “Thanks. It’s a lot of stats and spreadsheets and yelling at each other about the stock market, but I really love it.”
“You’re making me look bad; I’m just your standard pre-PT student athlete”
“Standard pre-PT student athlete,” she mocked, “don’t sell yourself short, Whitethorn. Pre-PT is nothing shabby.”
“Yeah, but not remembering a stupidly easy math concept sure as hell is.”
She snickered. “Fair enough. Is there anything else I can help you with, or is that all for this session?”
He flipped through his notes. “That’s all I had for today, but I’ll probably be back at some point whining about another tricky concept.”
Aelin grinned, closing her notebook. “Wait until you get into chi-squared models. I’ll be here then, waiting for all the stats students to come crying to me while I plug seventeen equations into my spreadsheet and hope it actually calculates the quarterly interest this time.”
Rowan shook his head. “You lost me at ‘chi-squared,’ Aelin.”
“Oh, trust me, it’s fun.”
“As much fun as you and Sam have?”
Her voice dropped to a sultry purr. “Your couch would know.”
Before he could sputter out a response, she’d shouldered her backpack and was walking out the door. Rowan watched Aelin Galathynius leave, wondering how fast he could make up an excuse to talk to his roommate’s brilliant girlfriend again.
Epilogue: Underwater (SC Titanic, Zetta x Adele Series)
As promised, here the epilogue of the Zetta x Adele Series, folks.
This is the very end of a project that meant me quite a lot to me and got me through the last terrible year. Thanks to all those who supported it: hope you enjoyed it and will enjoy this ending.
In case you were wondering, this song inspired the whole series, particularly the last chapters:
_________________________
Almost a century after the sinking of the RMS Titanic and to celebrate Canada becoming the first country outside Europe to legalise same-sex marriage, the Canadian Film Institute decided to work side by side with several LGBTQ+ organisations across the world to put together an exhibition focused on the early queer cinema and the many queer stars who were forced to hide their true selves in the Golden Age of cinematography, spanning from 1890s till the aftermath of Second World War. "A testament to the role the LGBTQ+ community played in the history of cinema and that we have always been here, even if people hardly saw us" as a journalist wrote on a queer magazine. After the recent discovery of some private documents, the curators were overjoyed to include an icon of the 1900s - 1910s cinema like Zetta Serda into the retrospective and cast a new light on her extraordinary career sadly soon forgotten after the advent of the sound era. Yet, the silent picture star was mentioned as a model and 'endless source of inspiration" by many queer movie stars like Cary Grant, Katherine Hepburn, Greta Garbo all part of the retrospective. Rumor has it that as soon as she landed in America, Marlene Dietrich demanded his agent a meeting with Mrs King.
A curator drove all the way to Montreal to meet the last known heir, a certain Mrs. Julia Nowak, who greeted him on the threshold of a cosy downtown apartment. She offered him a coffee and a slice of a Polish sweet bread: the recipe was a family heirloom, she explained, beaming. She was in her late fifties, a therapist, she said. Her hazel eyes gleamed when she added, in a pleasantly soothing voice that betrayed a hint of excitement: "I must confess I am so incredibly happy that you contacted me about the retrospective. I adore the idea and I will make sure to attend it. Also" she nodded to a wedding picture hung to the wall "did you know that my wife is in politics? She campaigned for the legalisation...yes, Madeleine Fournier: see, you know her! We got married right after the law passed. If anything, your call and project made me twice as happy". She took a pause, smiling over her coffee in remembrance. "Anyway, back to the matter of your visit...yes, as far as I know, I am Zetta's last heir. As you probably know, my family wasn't officially related to her but she stated otherwise in her will". She moved to the couch and gestured the curator to follow her as she opened up one of the boxes and chests piled into the living room and picked out an old album, the leather cover worn at the edges. Dust waltzed in the air as she opened it with caution and gentle care. She showed him a slightly discoloured black and white picture of a young couple kissing for the camera in front of a church. Another wedding picture, from a different era. "Nana Hileni and Papa Maciej's wedding picture. I still remember them even if they both died when I was barely a teen...as if one couldn't bear to live without the other. Or so I like to think. She would help me with the homework, mathematics particularly, and he baked this bread for me till he was too weak to do so. He always claimed that he won Nana's heart with his pastries but she always denied it laughing". She passed another picture of the same couple proudly standing in front of the Nowak family bakery in Hoboken. "Frankly, I believe that Papa's broad shoulders and Marlon Brando smile are more likely to blame for this coup de foudre" she laughed. "And he knew how to deal with her no-nonsense attitude and vice versa. They...balanced each other, if you wish". She picked another picture and handed it to him. A woman was looking down in tender adoration and awe to a baby nestled in her arms looking up at her, outstretching a tiny arm in an attempt to touch her face. "There! This is Dad" she pointed at the baby before turning the picture where someone wrote 'Alex meets Auntie Adele'. Turning it again, she pointed at the woman. "This is Adele Carrem. Or Auntie Adele as I've always heard calling her. Nana's sister and Zetta's publicist and companion" Putting it back into the album, she carefully picked a bunch of other old pictures. "You surely know who this one is" she smiled, handing out the one on top. The photo was rather grainy but you could still recognise the same kid, slightly older, around two, sucking his thumb, cuddled up in Zetta's lap. The actress had aged a little but her features were unmistakable and it was endearing to see her sitting by the fireplace to read that kid with the sleepy face a bedtime story. "Sadly, I have never met them. I wish I did, oh you have no idea...but stories of them lived through in our family" Julia continued. "My Dad loved his Aunties - as he called them - dearly and by what I've heard and read, they loved him in manner as if he was their own. He knew little of them or Zetta's career back then...to him they were just the sweet ladies who would buy him ice-cream in Central Park or take him to see his favourite pictures over and over again at the movie theater. He said he will never forget the afternoons he used to spend with them in a Manhattan cafe that no longer exists around Christmas: Nana and Papa worked like crazy as the festive season approached and the glorious cup of hot chocolate with an elegant puff of cream on top with the Aunties became a tradition to him. He kept it alive somehow as he did the same with me". She handed the curator a bunch of other pictures: Zetta cleaning up Alex's face smeared with jam, the both of them laughing; Zetta posing with Maciej and her Dad at a table in the Hoboken bakery. He eventually mirrored her smile seeing a five years old Alex at the beach all engrossed in building a sandcastle with Hileni and Adele, and he standing at the water edge hand in hand with Miss Carrem, looking out into the distance. "These are family pictures. I'll show you the Zetta's private memorabilia we cherished". Julia searched a little, opening an old chest and handling every item inside with tender care. When she found what she was looking for, she showed the curator an elegant set of smaller boxes containing letters, dried flowers and photos. "I have already received an offer to get these published. I'm still pondering it. Before agreeing, I want to consider throughly if this is a thing they would have wanted, even if they're no longer here" The curator nodded as she kept searching. He skimmed a few letters and smiled as his eyes fall on the photos hidden away in those boxes: the two women sitting together and chatting at Hileni's wedding, Zetta's reading a script, lazily sprawled on a chaise long in her apartment. Some had short lines handwritten on the back, like a promotional picture with "Missing you" written by Zetta herself. The curator showed another to Mrs Nowak: a visibly excited Miss Carrem proudly showing to the camera a document announcing her voter registration. On the back, in Zetta's penmanship: "On the way to vote...my sweet Adele won!". "Oh you didn't know? Auntie Adele was a suffragette! I couldn't believe it when I first heard it! Nana told me that she was in and out jail when they lived in London because of protests. You know, like those suffragettes you read about in history books but less famous. Yet she fought for women's rights and kept fighting for them even in America. She was quite disappointed though by some major decisions of some feminist movements and eventually joined a socialist Union 'more rightfully welcoming working class individuals, immigrants and black brothers and sisters'. It's all in those letters but yeah, you couldn't possibly know. So little is known about her outside family". A little smile drew on her face as she put back the photo. "That photo was taken the day of the first election open to women. I checked the date. I suppose Zetta wanted to immortalise the moment...it was sweet of her, huh? Auntie Adele must have been so proud and overjoyed that day! You know, my Dad was born in 1920 when women's right to vote was legalised nationally and Nana once told me that Auntie commented the lucky coincidence saying she was incredibly happy her nephew would get to live in a fairer world. She was a true force of nature...she never talked much of the sinking of the Titanic just like Zetta and Nana actually but when one day Dad asked...he was barely a child and probably found an old article about the tragedy...Auntie Adele minimised but Nana assured him that her sister saved her life that night, risking her own to go down to the belly of the sinking ship to bring her to safety. Auntie simply shrugged, saying that it was what sisters do and that they made it to the lifeboats only thanks to Zetta, who shouted protests to stubborn officers and eventually found them a spot on a boat. I cannot even bring myself to imagine how scary that must have been: I cried so much when Madeleine took me to see Leo and Kate...to think they were there and it was all real!" She picked a few other objects out the box: a Shakespeare Sonnets book in a leather cover with golden engravings, with a little handwritten dedication 'To Adele, my sonnet 116. Happy birthday! With all my love, Zetta'; old scripts with annotations, a framed photograph of Adele and Zetta slow dancing barefoot in the living room of a gorgeous Long Island mansion. "These have a sentimental value" Mrs Nowak noted, her voice betraying the flicker of emotions as she picked it up. She took a deep sigh and continued. "I remember the day I told Dad I was gay as it was yesterday. We had always been quite close so it came natural to tell him first. We were in his car, he had come straight from college to pick me up at ice-skating practice. I..I dropped it in the middle of a conversation, bracing myself for the worst. I heard so many bad stories about coming out to your parents I was terrified of the consequences but I couldn't hide it anymore. I mean, yes, in public: bullies get even nastier if they know and I didn't want people shouting me "dyke" at school. But I needed to get it out of my chest...with someone at least. He kept quiet for a moment and I felt like drowning in shame. But then he spoke". A nostalgic tender smile formed Julia's lips. "He said he had two amazing Aunties that contributed to make his life a wondrous adventure. It was thanks to them that he, the son of a baker, could attend a prestigious college, for instance: they offered to pay for it without asking a penny back. They also helped him write his first romantic letter to his childhood sweetheart and consoled him when the little girl turned him down. But his Aunties had a secret, he added. He said: to my kid eyes they were no less a couple than Mom and Dad and at home we all treated them in manner but one day Mom made me promise to behave differently when we were in public. In public I would refer to her sister as 'Auntie Adele' but call Zetta by her name. He didn't get it and it took some getting used to. He soon noticed that even the Aunties behaved a bit differently out in the sun: they wouldn't hold hands or use endearing words in the street or when other people were around. They simply behaved like good friends did. He understood it later when he, as stubborn as a mule, asked them directly". Julia gently grazed her fingers on the glass of the framed photograph, caressing it. "And they told me everything, he said. That they were in love, just like mom and dad were, but people out there could be uncomfortable and extremely rude to women loving other women and men loving other men. That they kept their companionship a secret in public because those people had no problems with women being friends and they didn't want to have bad words or worse happening to them. I remember asking him what he thought about it. He smiled. 'I cried. Since Auntie Zetta mentioned people claiming that women like them were sick and would burn in hell, I actually started crying. I sobbed desperately in her arms, crying that I didn't want them to burn in hell, I loved my Aunties and I was happy they loved each other. Eventually they explained me it was just a vile lie spread my malignant people. But I got quite a scare and kept staring at them with puffy red eyes and my face wet with tears for a while. It required lots of cuddling to bring a smile back on my face'. He shook his head, laughing of his endearing naivety. Then he pulled over and looked at me. He continued: 'I still don't get why people keep spreading those mean lies but I know for sure that my Aunties weren't sick and didn't end up in hell and so won't you. Don't believe bullshits like that for a split second, okay? And I also want you to remember that it doesn't change a thing for me and mom too. You will always be my little girl, our little girl and we love you'. We shared a long hug before driving back home. On the way back he insisted to buy my favourite chicken and waffles for dinner, saying mom's veggie soup could wait. For my birthday, a month later or so, he asked me to follow him to the attic and showed me this chest. To meet the Aunties that 'would have surely been there for me'". She tipped away a tear. "I told you I married Madeleine right after the legalisation of same-sex marriages. My wedding was also the last public event Mom and Dad attended together before his health worsened irremediably. He passed away last year". For a moment she looked on the verge of tears but she recovered quickly. "Sorry...anyway, that day Dad insisted on walking me down the aisle even if he was getting weak. He beamed with pride when a friend fixed a rainbow ribbon to his jacket. Later at the lunch he read a speech he had written for the day, his hand shaking. He shared the story of his Aunties. He said that despite the hardships their situation forced upon them, they had quite a happy life together, a happiness carefully hidden from the world. He wished us to find something similar to what they shared without needing to hide anymore. He said Adele and Zetta would have been so happy and proud to celebrate with all of us that day" Mrs. Nowak picked the Shakespeare Sonnet book and gave him a fond look. "He brought this to the wedding. And he read for us the sonnet 116, the one Zetta mentioned in her dedication. You know, the one that starts with 'Let me not to the marriage of true minds admit impediments..." ----------------------- A few months later the exhibition on old Hollywood queer cinema and artists opened. Each artist had a room that soon filled with a crowd of enthusiastic visitors. In the first half, in a room arranged as a turn of the century nickelodeon with velvet chairs, all the memorabilia of Zetta Serda's public life: panels explaining the various stages of her career and the birth of her myth, promotional pictures of her performances, articles about her and a copy of a gazette announcing her wedding with the director Richard King. On the wall, on a screen her entire filmography rolled up in loop, bewitching spectators after a century. In display cases: the gorgeous sapphire necklace she wore on her last night on the Ship of Dreams and at the movie party of Surviving the Titanic, and a replica of her Cleopatra costume. The aging Queen of Egypt with a tragic love and destiny immortalised by Shakespeare was her last role back on the theater stage before retiring from the scenes. Old scripts with her personal annotation were displayed with photographs taken on sets and mundane events. The wall hosting the motion-picture screen cut the room in half. On the other side, the hidden half of her life. Her life with Adele no one suspected back then. A life kept secret that now unveiled in front of the eyes of the visitors. The curators discovered that finding public pictures of Miss Carrem was nearly impossible, true to the nickname she acquired as time went by: The Shadow. She stayed at Zetta's side until and even after she stopped acting, showing rare loyalty and devotion, but ever surrounded by this mystery allure. No one, even the most stubborn reporters managed to know anything about her and she was soon dismissed as a Titanic survivor, possibly a fan, who worked as Zetta's secretary and somehow gained her respect. Little they knew about the depth of their relationship and what stacks of secret letters and family memories revealed of the life of Miss Carrem. A panel finally told her story and her secret achievements: Adele, or better Adal, kept fighting for a fairer world and society her whole life and marched for women's right to vote on the famous parade in 1915. She also passed the teaching of Edith Garrud to her American sisters. The only pictures of her came from the Nowak family, except for one. The only photograph of a public appearance of Miss Carrem as well as the only known public appearance of Zetta and Adele. An old grainy photo accurately framed showed Adele shaking hands with The Unsinkable Molly Brown on a podium. In her free hand a shiny medal and a few steps behind the mayor of New York. According to the panel, the survivors' committee founded by Mrs. Brown decided to award Miss Carrem a medal for bravery and a generous check "to help her and her sister starting a new life in America". With great surprise, Miss Carrem received the medal and the check, thanked the board but refused the honors. Instead, she asked to deliver them both to the family of a certain Charlie Stoke, a stewart that lost his life in the sinking to save her life and those of many passengers. She added that her friend expressed the desire to study naval engineering one day and she wished that the money kindly offered to her would be enough to establish a scholarship for boys like him across the ocean. In another picture, Miss Carrem and her sister chatted with Moll Brown in company of Zetta. Eventually, other philanthropists and wealthy socialites signed checks for her cause so that the Stoke family received a generous contribution too. And today, as another picture confirmed, the faculty of naval engineering of the University of Newcastle hosts a marble engraving of Charlie Stoke: to his memory a scholarship had been instituted one year after on the anniversary of the sinking. Since 1913 it has been helping students of poor background to get an education and improve their life. Zetta herself became a philanthropist during her Renaissance and ever since. The first act of her new phase of her life was joining the Moll Brown survivors committee to provide help to the second and third class passengers families and survivors. Some said that the tragedy she witnessed touched her heart, other claimed that it was to be attributed to the influence of her publicist. Jokingly, she used to say that after all, she had too much money yet all she could have wished for in her life, so why not doing some good with it? A considerable donation under her and Mr King was received by the main hospital during the Spanish flu pandemic; she was particularly active in providing financial help to struggling neighbourhoods and female education institutions. In the middle of the room, a long glass display hosted the Shakespeare Sonnets opened at sonnet 116 and a selection of the private correspondence between Zetta and Adele. My darling, You will receive this letter tomorrow morning when I'll be already off to Chicago. The suitcases are ready and packed, this is a goodnight note scribbled the night before leaving you to remind you how much I love you and care about you. How much I'm going to miss you even if - thank God! - we won't be parted for long... Do not forget you promised me to write every day! Write to me, Adele, write to me whatever thought crosses that gorgeous mind of you: you know I could you rambling for hours without getting tired of the sound of your voice, of your sparkling wisdom. I wanna know everything. So don't be shy: I'll be waiting your letters with tender impatience. Can't wait to be in your arms once more. Adoringly yours, Zetta - Dear, dearest Zetta, I went to Central Park today with Hileni. It was a gorgeous spring day, sunny, a gentle breeze blowing: 'simply too beautiful to be wasted inside' as my sister put it. Did I tell you that she's still exchanging letters with the delivery boy from the hat shop? I thought they were over but apparently he invited her to the nickelodeon next week. Anyway, walking in the park with her I suddenly realised how I wanted to share that spring wonder with you. When are you coming back to New York? Tell me soon, please. And even 'soon' won't be soon enough: you're always on my mind since you left. But yes, tell me soon so I can make you promise we will go for a walk before the weather becomes too hot. Do you think I can wrap my arm with yours? Is it professional enough for a publicist? Even just for a few steps: oh you have no idea how I would love that! Or maybe you have? I hope so: it'd mean you miss me as much as I miss you when we are apart. Oh, I almost forgot: all settled with that magazine you mentioned before your departure! I negotiated a two pages long interview, plus pictures. And a cover mention. Hope I did well: you have already fired me as your secretary, I must prove you I am just what you're looking for in a publicist... Can't wait to see you again! Loving you always, Adele Only one letter was copied on a panel of its own on the main wall side by side with a blow-up of the picture of Adele and Zetta slow-dancing barefoot and free, for a blessed moment immortalised in a discreet shot. Adele pressing a tender kiss on Zetta's forehead, drawing a soft smile on the acrtress' lips. Many visitors commented it was heartwarming to see such a photograph that conveyed the intimacy and the warmth of affection radiating from the dancing couple. Some said that Zetta was even more beautiful like that: free, hair slightly askew and genuinely happy, loved. What stole their hearts away though was the letter attached to it. It was no surprise that the curators decided to name the retrospective Underwater. Dearest Adele, Forgive me for the tone of this letter. I am writing it down in bed while I cannot sleep and my mind runs back to you as if we could meet halfway between the miles separating us, in a world of fantasy of our own. It's ridiculous how much I miss you! I want you near, I need you near all the time. Take tonight: if you were here with me, I would be heavenly sleeping in your loving embrace. Most unfortunately, you are not and I'm lying here, insomniac, thinking of you. And about my life. No, don't frown. I am not getting all sad again. It's...bittersweet. And - I'll spoil you the ending so you will stop worrying, hopefully - it gets better the more you proceed. Have you ever felt trapped underwater? I did, my whole life. Always hiding, always measuring words, gestures, gazes not to let them see, not to let them know...so little time to go up and break the surface. Drop the mask and breathe. In, out. Once, twice. In my lowest moments I repeated to my myself: how are you gonna survive? One day an acquaintance with a remarkable passion for the sea explained me and the other bored commensals that you can keep someone alive by breathing oxygen into their mouth underwater. Pretty much like mouth-to-mouth resuscitation helps an unconscious person to regain consciousness. I found it interesting but doubted his words. Then I met you, Adele. My dearest, wondrous Adele. And I learnt that yes, you can't breathe if you're constantly underwater...but you won't drown if you have the right person swimming by your side in those deep waters. Put your lips on me, Adele. Touch me, hold me in your arms. And I can live underwater. With your love, I can live underwater. We can live underwater. I love you. I want to cover a full page of these three simple words: I love you. I want to cry them out and entrust them to the winds, to the night. But what for? Who cares if the world knows or not? I'll whisper them over your lips when we will be reunited. So you can breathe underwater. Counting down the hours separating us, my love. Eternally yours, Zetta
Worried Of Getting Good Grades? Be the Topper with Our MATLAB Assignment Help
Matlab is a mathematical programming language, built by Mathworks, an American company. Established in 1984 by Steve Bangert, Jack Little and Cleve Moler. MATLAB is the abbreviation for 'MATrix LABoratory'. Matlab is a tool for numerical visualization and computation. The basic data element of Matlab is a matrix and it is used to manipulate array-based data. This is almost entirely written in C++ and the little remaining part is written in Matlab itself and PERL. You can even compile Matlab programs and run it as stand-alone applications.
The Matlab guide, plotting including desktop UIs (User Interfaces) are written in Java. Matlab is useful in many fields like biotechnology, defense, aerospace, data simulations, finance, mathematical modeling, algebra, geometry, oil and gas drilling, marine engineering, statistics, 3D analysis, and research and development. However, when automated processes collect large quantities of data using computers, it can be evaluated using Matlab from Mathworks.
Perfect examples of the automated data collection are psycho-physical experiments like FMRI, EEG, Eye Tracking, internet questionnaires, Galvanic Skin Resistance Measurements and log files. Large volumes of data found in those analyses are too huge to be analyzed with the use of regular spreadsheets and then exporting it to SPSS or Statistica. Recalculating entire data-sets with revised parameters is finished more correctly with the use of Matlab.
Mattie & Lulu
Mattie: [So my vibe for it, she just shows up without knowing because by this point it’s been like 2 years since attempted contact so you wouldn’t think to check like, where do they go to school, especially if Chloe swore the grandparents to secrecy vis-a-vis the teacher situation because she would, so you probably think they’re still in Switzerland, and then I think we should say that one of them is in her form and one of them has her as a teacher for either Physics or Computers and whoever we pick as the form one could see her first and if that was Dolly she could tell Lulu to try and get in with her]
Lulu: [That honestly feels the most legit to me too, I was gonna say maybe put Lulu in her form so they have to spend more time together lol but your idea makes the most sense in terms of like starting this convo, also love you not being the 1st to know since you spoke for them both in the last convo so]
Mattie: [And if you had her for both subjects, you’d still see her a lot so it’s fine, also lessons are longer than form time but you’re meant to like, talk to your form teacher if you need something so we can say that Dolly is without having to do it obvs, so then my vibe for today is she obviously took Dolly to one side and was like I don’t know how this happened but I’ll follow your lead like if you want to swap forms you can but also you can stay and we don’t have to make a big deal of it. Mattie would have to let the School know like they’re my half-sisters btw, didn’t know they were here, but we had kids who were taught by their literal mums so it’s not like she has to leave or they have to move classes, just as long as you aren’t hiding it ‘cos that’d be weird on her part, so maybe we can say Lulu didn’t have either lesson today so we can do this like Dolly has just told her but Mattie hasn’t had enough time or reason to come find her in person?]
Lulu: [That’s so clever boo, such an excellent way to get around having to RP with yourself and yeah she could totally be taught by her for both lessons so that is probably more time actually like you said]
Mattie: [Okay so our vibe for form is it’s about 30 mins at the start of the day, after breakfast for boarders and before lessons, and there are 4 girls from each year in the form (year 7-13) so the energy is very look after the little ones and go to the older kids for advice and help, as well as your form teacher being your go-to teacher for things you need that aren’t related to your subjects, you probably also have a matron-esque person for things related to boarding; Definitely doing houses also and you get points for good behaviour, academic achievement and clubs and sporting, can also be taken away for poor behaviour and performance, Dolly and Lulu are in the same house just not form. HOUSE TEA, after research it seems like forms and houses are separated by boarding and day students as well as sex, so only boarding girls in your form/house, you literally live with your house if you board, it’s about 60 girls, and there is the housemistress (and her whole fam and dog lmao) a matron, the tutors of the forms in said house and then head girl as well as 6th form girls being prefects, absolutely can think of what the housemistress, matron, head girl and other tutors who live in are like; MORE TEA, school starts 8:25, chapel, assembly or form time, four lessons before lunch, after lunch from about 4:00, 2 clubs a day, sports, drama, art etc until 6:00, final reg ‘til 6:15, then there’s the ‘cultural hour’ til 7:15, prep aka homework for AT LEAST an hour after dinner assumedly, Saturday is chapel, three lessons, lunch, then sports all afternoon depending how much sports you do, there are like 150 clubs so get at it]
Lulu: [NGL love this, I’d be fuming if my mum worked there and I had to live there too but like such a fun vibe for us and it makes sense that you’re gonna end up getting close to Mattie like it or not]
Lulu: [okay so Lulu studies Physics and Computer Science with Mattie and then Mathematics makes sense to go with that]
Mattie: [Dolly Drama & Theatre Studies, German & Religious Studies]
Lulu: [Okay so Lulu’s clubs cos you have to do a sport I’m gonna pick Tennis as a throwback to your old school, Drama as I’ve mentioned in this convo, Model UN likewise as a throwback, Chess cos we love it and that Curie Society thing where they just chat about scientific discoveries and D of E]
Mattie: [Dolly’s clubs are Drama, Archery, Running Club, Chapel Choir, Cross Country & Swimming, will do Creative & Literary Society when we are in a better place but not like right away]
Mattie: [I think we can start this convo now we have an idea]
Lulu: Dolly told me you’re her form tutor… that’s unexpected
Lulu: how long is your placement here?
Mattie: Yes, very
Mattie: I had zero idea you two weren’t still in Switzerland
Mattie: Believe me when I say if I planned to initiate contact between us again, I would have gone for a more direct, far less convoluted route to do so
Mattie: The placement is 8 weeks, I’ve had to let the head know and I was going to come find you to see how you wanted to proceed
Mattie: Dolly was happy enough to stay in my form and not make a big deal about it, her words, obviously this is a shock for us all and I’m not going to minimize that for my own gain
Mattie: But I am taking you for Physics and Computer Studies, so you would actually be seeing more of me than Dolly, so that’s… a thing
Mattie: There is another Computer Science class in your year but Physics is already a small class with just me… I could see if there’s a possibility for a Physics teacher from one of the other years to swap with me, if that’s what you would like
Lulu: Of course you wouldn’t be aware of our move, and of course Dolly doesn’t want to make a big deal of you being here now that we are, similarly I’m not going to make a fuss about you teaching me, that’s all you’re supposed to do, professionalism is also a… thing and 8 weeks is bound to absolutely fly by
Mattie: If you’re sure, Lulu, then that’s absolutely how I am happy to proceed too
Mattie: It really isn’t long, in the grand scheme of things
Mattie: You aren’t obligated to share any more than you would with any other teacher, but I have to ask why the move?
Mattie: You seemed to really love that place
Mattie: Even though it seems very impressive here too
Mattie: I just hope you’re okay, is really all I’m trying to say with that question
Lulu: There’s no big secret, it was just time for a change, which is how you jolly well may feel after you’ve spent 2 months here 😅
Mattie: Oh no, you aren’t enjoying it here? Or just a bit of a culture shock
Mattie: It was for me too, my last placement was an inner-city comp
Mattie: but it’s different being this side of the student-teacher divide regardless, that’s for sure
Lulu: I’m not a student you have to try to find common ground with, you aren’t my form tutor
Mattie: How are you getting on with yours? She’s the Drama teacher, right, funny how that worked out
Lulu: Marvellously, it’s been one of my extracurriculars since year 7
Mattie: That’s great, and you get to spend time with your sister, now you don’t have your lessons together
Lulu: Yeah, Religious Studies isn’t my thing
Mattie: I can’t say it’s mine either 😅
Mattie: Also the man who teaches that scares me a bit but 🤫 I’m sure he looks more off-putting than he actually is
Lulu: It’s his 🐛 brows but your first impression and instincts are spot on too, he’s v intense
Mattie: I’ll break the ice by asking him to come get them threaded, that’s a great idea
Lulu: I’m extremely clever and that was a elaborate ploy to prove every idea I have is A* to you as my new teacher and earn house points as I’m so devoted
Mattie: I sadly think I know how the head would feel about merit points for beauty reccs but admire the dedication, that’s definitely a core value they want to promote here so
Mattie: Not not worth some ++
Lulu: It’d be beastly not to pass the vibe check after all this time, the most relief ever that I’ve worked out this place’s core values
Mattie: I think I still have the introductory pamphlet, should you ever need a refresher
Mattie: Core values, Latin Motto, the lot…
Lulu: [Whatever the school Latin motto is cos I tried to make a sassy one up but was cockblocked] I’m fine, but thanks
Mattie: Impressive
Mattie: Okay, I will see you in class tomorrow
Mattie: Potentially around the house before then but I’ll do my best to give you both space
Lulu: It’s called making an effort, which you’ll see me do in class too
Lulu: okay but don’t give us a lot of space or everyone’ll think we’re in some huge bind over you and like Dolly and I have both said, it’s not that big of a deal
Mattie: Pleased to hear it
Mattie: Understood
Mattie: I more meant it as a warning that I too room there so you might see me around, but I won’t make a point of showing up in your dorm
Lulu: I don’t honestly know what makes you think I would need a warning but thanks again anyway
Mattie: I’m not trying to make your transition here any harder than it needs to be
Lulu: You’d have to be a horrific teacher to make that sizeable of an impact, we’re both settled, the newbie here is you
Mattie: Well that remains to be seen
Mattie: QTS will either be achieved by the end of this or not
Mattie: It’s a lot bigger than your last, your house has as many pupils as the entirety of Surval did, that’s a big change
Lulu: So was co-ed and day students, note my past tense though
Mattie: Right, and your subjects at A-Level are, sadly, pretty boy heavy
Mattie: You’ve got it all worked out though, I’ll be sure to ask for help if I get stuck
Lulu: Not something I expected to have to deal with, pre-fresh start, but I don’t have to teach them, only get on with my own work
Lulu: yeah, I could give an A* tour
Mattie: I’d call you lucky if I didn’t know personally that the workload is going to be intense
Mattie: but I’ve seen your grades so I’m not worried for you, you’ve got this
Mattie: I might take you up on that offer, though if you can secure one of the cute dogs I see running about, that turns might into a definite
Lulu: 😊
Lulu: Oh, this is the moment to let you know Skipper loves me
Mattie: I think Skipper nearly ran me down this morning
Mattie: assuming he’s the GIANT one that rarely listens to his owner 🤭
Lulu: He is 🥰💖 but he doesn’t realise 😆
Mattie: The best kind of dog 😌 It’s so cute
Lulu: My biggest soft spot is for little dogs who think they’re VIP as in v important humans, but we have one of those at home, for the best of both worlds
Mattie: Okay, yes, that’s a mood too
Mattie: What’s his name?
Mattie: Being currently without any pet I need all the surrogates, obviously
Lulu: Monty
Lulu: [show her a picture of him obvs]
Mattie: Oh, he’s a doll 😍
Mattie: a definite plus for being in England is you can go visit him more often
Lulu: Not really, I’m still boarding
Mattie: The 6-day schedule is intense
Mattie: I can see the benefits though, as long as the child is here because they want to learn, and not because their parent paid for an extra intensive education just because it’s the ‘best’
Lulu: Both can be true and mostly seem like they are here
Mattie: By your age, if it wasn’t suiting, you wouldn’t have made it, I don’t think
Mattie: At least you have Sundays
Lulu: You’ve seen my grades, who could fake making it that hard?
Mattie: I wasn’t accusing you of not being capable, not at all, sorry that wasn’t clear, just musing aloud that the people who aren’t suited to this model won’t make it past IGCSEs to A-levels
Mattie: but that kind of thing would fall under unprofessional, I imagine so let’s pretend I didn’t say anything
Lulu: It’d only be unprofessional if you shared who you think shouldn’t be here, which I’ll totally pretend you didn’t say after 🤭
Mattie: 😅😶 I’ll pretend I didn’t hear that and slip the list under your door when I’ve made it
Lulu: 🤫 to not turn you against an absolutely ridiculously high percentage of both your classes before you’ve taught them
Mattie: Definitely not the aim of my placement 😰
Mattie: Although someone has to be the teacher nobody likes, right?
Lulu: You could try that approach, but unless this tête-à-tête happening is what’s faked, I can’t see you making it work for 8 weeks
Mattie: Thanks, that’s almost encouraging 😌😜
Mattie: Over the initial shock, it’s good to see you both doing well here
Mattie: And if you do happen to need anything, you can let me know
Lulu: You’re almost my teacher, calling you a bitch wouldn’t get us off on the right foot
Mattie: I don’t think I can downgrade you for that, but no, I see that
Mattie: Professionalism works both ways, as it were
Lulu: And I could need an extension at any time, my lab partner is a perfect dunce who should be on your reject list 😓 I’d be pretty gassed if you would actually re-assign us, do you have that much power? 🤔
Mattie: It’s a possibility
Mattie: I like to switch it up anyway, you’re such a small group, it stops it getting clique-y, so you can all work together and swap around whilst I’m your teacher
Mattie: When you get a permanent teacher after I leave, they might see it differently but they’ve all been enthusiastic about my ideas thus far, though I just got here
Lulu: After you leave is after you leave, I feel seedy now and look like 💀 if you want to do anything about it
Mattie: What’s the problem with him, beside the dunce thing we’ve already covered?
Lulu: Isn’t that enough bad luck? I’m doing everything by myself while he’s high fiving his friends for getting partnered with me, like some incel
Mattie: Right
Mattie: Let me see it for myself and then perhaps I can do something about it, if it is that blatant
Mattie: You don’t need the teacher’s pet rep any more than I need accusations of baseless favouritism just because we’re related
Mattie: I believe you, but I’ll deal with it in class and in my capacity as your teacher and his, not like this, yeah
Lulu: I’m letting you know what I need, which is what you just told me to do
Mattie: Okay, I’ve heard you, I just want to make sure you understand that if you come to me with things related to class, then they’ll be dealt with in the proper channels
Lulu: 😬 sorry if you got the impression I’d come to you with anything unrelated to class, we’re not there
Mattie: You didn’t, I simply offered
Lulu: Grandma will be buzzing
Mattie: I’m not doing it to score points, or make a statement
Mattie: and undoubtedly you won’t come to me but I’m going to offer in case you need to, and because that’s what feels right to me to do, that’s it
Mattie: No hidden agenda
Lulu: Offer it to Dolly, that’s your job
Mattie: I have, Lulu
Mattie: Don’t worry
Lulu: Meaning?
Lulu: my sister is fine, I don’t have to worry about her
Mattie: Meaning just that
Mattie: I have a pastoral role as well as an educational
Mattie: If any pupil in my form needs help, they’ll receive it
Lulu: She doesn’t
Mattie: Glad to hear it
Lulu: You’ll have an easy time of it from both of us
Mattie: As long as you’re having a good time of it too, that works perfectly for me
Lulu: Il n’y a pas le feu au lac, as my previous mistresses were devoted to saying
Mattie: My French is limited to being able to order dinner with minimal side-eye from the waiters
Mattie: but I’ll take your very pretty words for it
Lulu: Whoops, I shouldn't have assumed, what language did you do?
Mattie: Mandarin, which was a huge plus on my application, with the college in Malaysia and the Mandarin course they do here
Lulu: Wow, how difficult is it? I’d love to have learned
Mattie: It is challenging, but a fun one I’d say
Mattie: It’s a shame they only have the one teacher, so they can’t make it a club too, they’d be run ragged
Mattie: I could teach you the 101 basics, I’m confident enough to do that much
Lulu: You didn’t want to be accused of favouritism and I don’t want to make an ass of myself
Lulu: I’ll have to move there and hope it’s not yonks before the immersion and fluency, I’ve only ever learnt a language that way, I don’t know if even the basics are doable otherwise 😟
Mattie: Well that’s certainly the best way to learn but not the only
Mattie: I wish I was here longer so I could commit to starting a club for the pupils like you who are interested but it wasn’t viable to pick as an A-Level
Lulu: I’ll download an app or something, delete it if it’s too embarrassing
Mattie: I’ll check in to see how you’re finding it
Mattie: You do have a wealth of extra-curriculars, you have zero reason to be embarrassed
Lulu: Only one of those is new and I get to talk in English on subjects I’m never out of my depth with, so yeah, that’s a reason
Lulu: I don’t have time to pick up Chinese Chess either 😭 maybe I can if I do move there
Mattie: The world is seriously going to be your oyster, you can do whatever you want to do, wherever you want to be
Lulu: Is that, like, your teacher catchphrase? 😅 totes inspirational
Mattie: I’ll get a poster made ASAP then 😏
Lulu: Do you need me to draw you a map to art first?
Mattie: Oh, absolutely
Lulu: [do draw her a little map of the key places in the school even though it’d obvs be really simple which might make it more confusing than the actual map cos we’re missing stuff out]
Mattie: [when you didn’t think she would and you’re lowkey touched lmao]
Mattie: That’s perfect, I should actually show up on time for our lesson tomorrow now, thanks for that
Lulu: I draw the line at teaching myself [a thing from both subjects she’s struggling with or doesn’t like lol] as well as Mandarin
Mattie: Now that we can 100% get down before my placement is up, that I can guarantee 😊
Lulu: so you’ve guaranteed yourself a thrilled student quote for the poster
Mattie: Everything’s coming up me 🙌🙌
Lulu: 🤞🏻 you keep that energy going tomorrow
Mattie: I’m not going to oversell it to you, but I do know what I’m doing, in terms of having me as your teacher, I don’t think you’re going to be disappointed
Lulu: They wouldn’t have you here as a teacher if that was your vibe, overselling is honestly closer to what they’re about, you must be worthy of 🙌🏻
Mattie: Bragging is never my vibe but I got the placement here for a reason, and I’m glad I did, so I won’t be wasting the opportunity
Mattie: I went to a good school, but the boarding lifestyle is something I’ve never experienced
Lulu: And I’ve never not, how odd, but you won’t have to experience it that hard as a teacher, they don’t even make you share or suffer through the indignity of inspections
Mattie: My room is a mess of notes and first-day outfits currently so that is definitely a good thing 😬😅
Lulu: The second-day outfit is much less pressure, especially in a class that’s v boy heavy
Mattie: Is that a promise you won’t judge me? 😏
Lulu: I’d come off worse, this uniform is not a mood, they never are
Mattie: At least there’s no boater, the full fantasy
Lulu: It’d add some interest, at least, to how plain everything has to be
Mattie: Thank Goodness for Sundays, you can express yourself then
Lulu: Are you promising not to judge me back? Awww! We’ve got a pact happening
Mattie: As long as there are no sacrifices or blood oaths I’d say that’s above board
Lulu: Sunday’s the chapel’s busiest day and without an altar what are we doing? 😬 Bad luck
Mattie: I do keep forgetting we’re CoE, I’ll have to carve that into the nearest tree or whatever so I don’t arouse suspicion with any 🔮ness
Lulu: Or 🤔 you could use the ⛪️🙏🏻 time to mentally outfit plan for the week if you’re for real awfully nervous, null and voiding the demand for the pact and witch vibes at all
Mattie: You’re very sensible
Mattie: though lesson planning is ultimately the best use of my time, if the big man upstairs is cool with that
Lulu: I use mine for [idk whatever maths or physics shit she could do in her head] and I’m blessed to have not been struck down yet
Mattie: 😅 Well I approve even if the jury is out with the 😇😇s
Lulu: Thanks
Lulu: did Grandpa teach you to play chess too? I need to practice
Mattie: He did, clearly very serious about passing on his chess knowledge 😌
Lulu: Relatable honestly if he just got sick of telling Grandma how the horse and castle move over and over for years 🙄 I tried to teach this boy once and never again
Mattie: Poor Grandma 🤭🤦♀️ Is that a boy from home?
Lulu: Golly, if that was how I spent my hols 🙈 No, his mother was a music mistress at our old school
Lulu: he tried but didn’t manage to teach me guitar either
Mattie: Oh, that makes a lot more sense
Mattie: I know the sort
Mattie: Everyone here seems to have little kids or grown-up kids right now, some of the little ones are super cute
Lulu: What sort?
Mattie: The walking-talking Netflix teen heartthrob type
Lulu: Yeah, no, you don’t know him, or me
Mattie: I didn’t mean anything by it
Lulu: And I meant what I said, I’m being welcoming and chill as it’s your first day, but you don’t know me like that
Mattie: Okay, I apologize
Lulu: It’s fine, I’ll see you tonight, not to ruin the surprise but there are other welcoming first day dorm traditions I have to be there for
Mattie: Oh, okay, cool
Mattie: When you want to practice Chess, let me know, we can do it after prep time
Lulu: Okay 👋🏻 for now
Time for new Beginnings
This was prompted by a lovely anon! Again, I’m very sorry I forgot this! But it is written at last!
Fandom: Detroit become human | Characters: Elijah Kamski, Chloe, Gavin Reed (Warning: mentioned past emotional child abuse) [Part2]
It felt like a déjà vu, as Elijah walked down the hallway towards his old office, Chloe in tow. It had taken a bit of coaxing, but after the revolution and the fiasco of Cyberlife trying to cover up deviancy with drastic measures, even he realised the company was in dire need of a paradigm shift. And who knew? With deviancy there was a whole new fascinating field in robotics for research and the development of new technology. So, he had agreed to be reinserted as CEO after the board had thrown him out of his own creation.
He entered the office and looked around the empty room. Well, it would take some time making it his again, but for now, the few belongings he and Chloe had brought had to suffice. He took the first box after closing the door behind him and began decorating his office. He was nearly finished with his desk, as he dropped his calendar to the ground on accident. As he bowed down to pick it up, he noticed on what page it had landed: the month of October. His eyes fell on the red circled seven. His brother’s birthday.
He stood up slowly, staring at the date. Absent-mindedly, he asked into the room: ‘Hey, Chloe, would you mind checking something for me?’ She turned to him. ‘Of course. What is it?’ ‘How is Gavin doing?’ ‘Gavin?’ ‘Reed. My brother. How is he?’
Chloe’s LED spun yellow for a turn, then she sat down in the office chair while Elijah set his things up. ‘He still works at the police. Made it Detective. Also, still the same address.’ Elijah sighed. ‘So, nothing much changed.’ ‘I believe there is still a lot happening in his life’, Chloe disagreed. ‘He just kept the same job and home.’ ‘Yeah, yeah, I know.’ Chloe smiled at the human’s back, having a hunch what he was thinking about. ‘You should call him.’ ‘I don’t think that’s a good idea’, Kamski muttered, turning around to her. ‘Considering how we parted ways…’ The android stood up and took the box from him. ‘Do you really think he still holds a grudge because of that?’ ‘I would’, he said silently. ‘I made some mistakes that aren’t easily forgiven.’ ‘Just think about it, okay? I’ll leave it to you.’
Elijah nodded, watching her leave the office and let himself fall on the same seat, she had sat in just a minute ago. He eyed his phone lying on the table before him. He could call him; it was simple actually. But talking? How should he even approach what he had done? How Gavin had suffered at home back then.
They had been from different mothers, but it had never stood between them. They were kids, brothers and there wasn’t a day they hadn’t spent together in their youth. Elijah liked thinking back to those days when their only thing to worry about was to find a better game to play the next day. The more he hated thinking back to the time that changed. When they started school. It changed when their grades began to diverge. When Elijah took to the sciences with his full heart and Gavin struggled to keep up with basic mathematics. When life wasn’t about who you were but how you performed.
When their father started favouring Elijah, it was subtle at first. He got more attention than his brother and with the praise he began to take pride in his success. He was just a child back then; he hadn’t realised that him bathing in affection meant his brother was left out. But he should have noticed when his father forbade him to help Gavin with his homework. Sure, the reasoning was logical: More time for his own studies and the degrading words of his father that it wasn’t of much use anyway. His father had always believed that you had to work for your fortune and if you couldn’t keep up It meant you just weren’t cut out for it. But he didn’t speak up. What his father said was law and Elijah quickly adapted what his parents modelled for him. Not only had this estranged them, no it was upright hatred. Elijah more or less ignored his brother, just as his whole family did, while Gavin became a real troublemaker. He was jealous of Eli’s success and fame, every single word towards their parents was spat, most days he spent alone in his room and when Elijah had went to college and Gavin had graduated high-school, he got a call from his parents that Gavin had run away from home.
Of course, he had called his brother, but Gavin hadn’t answered. The last message Eli had gotten from his brother was: I’m safe. I’m with friends. I got accepted at the police academy. Never call me again. And since then it was as if Gavin Reed had never been part of the Kamski family. And Elijah was quite sure, the Kamski family wasn’t part of Gavin’s life either. Only Elijah seemed to be on the lookout for his brother, whenever he got the time. He had never called, as instructed, but there was the news of caught criminals by the police and more a few times, there was a certain Det. G. Reed mentioned. And ever since androids had access to any and all information, tracking him wasn’t that difficult.
Elijah had had plenty of time to think about their past. Living as some sort of extravagant hermit, he had had more than enough idle moments. He knew he had wronged his brother by not taking his side. Maybe he hadn’t been the man that had changed the lives of all of humanity and basically built a new species then, but he would still have his brother. He knew exactly at what moment he had took the wrong turn and he was certain what had happened could not be reversed. But he strongly hoped that there was still the possibility of a new beginning.
After all, this was what all this was about, right? He looked around the office that now was once again his. He once again was the CEO of Cyberlife, but now the company laid in shambles and had to reinvent itself. A new beginning in a world where androids weren’t slaves but people. Maybe this was the universe’s way of telling him this was his second chance.
If anything, it was an attempt. It couldn’t get any worse than it already was. So, the first action in his new office wasn’t fighting with the board members. It was taking his phone and punching in numbers he had memorised perfectly. Then his thumb hovered over the green button. He took one long breath, then he clicked on it and held the phone to his ear. It rang once. Twice. Then the call was connected, and a voice answered him, far more rough and tired than he was used to:
‘Gavin Reed?’
Thoughts on the Eighth Member of BTS
A/N: No pairings or warnings for this, except that it may throw you into a sudden 8th member fanfic spiral. When I tell you I was reading 8th member fanfic for the majority of my day, I mean like a good six hours. It wasn’t good.
Okay, so I feel like a lot of people have talked about an eighth member and it being a girl and stuff so I figure I should add some stuff to the ever growing cache of things about the eighth member.
This was like 2300 words and I have no regrets.
~So if there was I feel like she would be slightly younger than most of them and would have come in after their first few albums
~Maybe she was raised in New York with her immediate family being mostly Korean and hella feminist and she’d have older brothers and be super chill
~So like maybe the company would be worried about the lack of fast growing traction with the group and have a girl added in
~First things first: it would be awkward as heck for the guys to suddenly have a girl there and would make living situations even more difficult, with having to share rooms and such. So, they’d probs alternate who rooms with who and who gets the couch, especially for her rooming with a guy
~Not to mention if she catches them talking about some sort of issue with the sleeping situation and then being nervous about it
~Eventually, I feel like she’d kind of get tired of all of the tiptoeing around her and be like
~‘Guys! I don’t even care! Unless you guys have some sort of creepy thing you’re trying to avoid, just treat me like one of you guys’
~Things would chill out basically immediately. Like the next few days, the boys were super relaxed and that was a problem because they just started walking around in just underwear and she would be like:
👀😒 um ew?? Put a shirt on?
~They’d clean it up a lil bit and walk around in like boxers and t shirts, which was fine she had older brothers, she could deal with that
~She’d respectfully bow out of the choreographed hip thrusts and things of that nature at first, like maybe they’d thrust and she’d like make a gagging motion or something(only rarely because the company would be like no) at some point she’d get extremely comfortable with just doing the hip thrusts herself
~The company even found that during interactions with fans she got just as much, sometimes more, attention and screaming as the boys
~Eventually she’d get used to dressing androgynous, like the stylist unnies would put her in skirts and she’d get kinda pissed and the guys would all agree that she’d be better in just what they’re wearing(i.e. pants)
~(Also, just a quick side note, before they even realized what was happening, they’d be super protective. Like unwarranted protection.
~Especially during interviews and talk shows any heavily toxic feminine questions related to her would be met with complete headassery(is that a word?) Just any kind of bullshit the guys could come up with.
~Like it wouldn’t happen immediately, but like after a few interviews and them seeing how uncomfortable it made her to answer the weird questions(coming from female OR male interviewers) they’d kind of come up with an unspoken agreement to answer any and every sexist comment or question with an answer just as shitty)
~ Into specific dynamics now:
~I feel like she’d be evenly split to each other member’s interests because in the first few months, that’s how she bonded with them, busy finding somethings she had in common with each of them and building on it
[we’ll go youngest to oldest]
~She is close with all of the boys, but each get her undivided attention when the moment serves.
~ With Jungkook she’d notice his quiet side during the beginning and willingness to please. So she’d always assure him, in a not so obvious way, that he was accepted. Just quiet validation from her court to his.
~So she’d set up gaming nights with Jungkook when they didn’t have strict schedules or just sit around on their phones
~ The fandom would eventually come to know them as the meme lords of the group.
~Their inside jokes are way too many to count and don’t even come close to being forgotten.
~Can’t forget GCF cause she would be in every single one of them that she could. She’s endlessly supportive of the videos and wants to be in all of them, she even suggests music and things(sometimes before he’s even thinking of doing another one)
~She disapproves when he pushes himself too hard. When she knows it’s happening, she’ll involve on of the hyungs( probably Jin) or they’ll talk to a manager if things get super serious.
~That being said, if he doesn’t have the dance down, or they’re both struggling, she’s the first to volunteer to run the dance with him multiple times and is always the voice of reason.
~When he says ‘one more time’ she says ‘food first’ or like ‘how about a water chugging contest really quick?!’ (bc we all know his competitive nature) ‘Jin probably has some left overs in the fridge that we can reheat, late night snack time!’
~They definitely argue a bit about being the “Golden Maknae.” She’s a bit competitive in that aspect. Because they’re both so talented and she’s just a half of a year older than he is.
~For Taehyung, I feel like she’d grow to love art with him. His quiet adoration for things of beauty, conventional or not.
~(They have a joke,mostly his own that he refuses to let die, that she’s his favorite piece of artwork, eventually she retaliates with him being her favorite piece of artwork and it just sticks.)
~They’d be the classy duo, but with matching boxy smiles. Elegant and poised, their visuals are basically unmatched and during photo shoots, they’re always the ones finished way before the others.
~There are no bad sides for the classy duo. (I’m basically imagining model material for both of them, like just ethereal. Visual god and goddessssssss)
~Also his need to fall asleep holding something, I feel like she’d match that with just being okay with anything when she’s asleep or almost asleep(like she’d fall asleep in the car with the boys or something and be difficult to wake up, so they’d just carry her and she wouldn’t even stir)
~So Tae would lay beside her and they’d be chilling and eventually fall asleep and then later wake up holding onto each other.
~Both of them are shameless damn flirts. They’re attractive and they know it and they will absolutely use it to (not literally) kill ARMY
~Jimin is a bit harder to think about(idek why) but I feel like she’d be his buddy in quiet studying. Like he’d come find her if he wanted to do some reading, but not be alone and she’d be totally down( same with Joon but hold on)
~and either she’d read her own book or she’d do some sketching(mostly because she’d want to have her own unique thing that the others weren’t too interested in)
~Jimin would be her ideal model in these moments. She never gets tired of sketching any of the boys, but in those moments, Jimin is the least likely to change face or position and thus be the perfect study.
~she’d also ask him for homework help in the earlier days with like mathematics and he’d always be more than happy to help
~Jimin is a brat and I feel like when the two of them spend a bit too much time together, the rest of the group can only expect the worst.
~(Low key the Lil-Shit Duo™️)
~Joon is next and here’s where her position in the group comes in. Since she was raised in New York, she’d be fluent in both Korean and English and, as such, would help with the interviews and translating.
~It’s a huge load for Namjoon to carry and with her, being by his side and helping with rephrasing things to the boys during interviews really eases him.
~Along with that, he always makes sure that she knows how much he appreciates her after difficult interviews or just every good while he’s just endlessly doting and complimenting her and things. She always tells him that it’s unnecessary, but he never stops thanking her.
~So they’re like the Leader Duo™️ and are consistently doing damage control between the boys(almost like group therapy) or rephrasing the boys’ answers(in those moments where the boys give weird answers to questions in interviews)
~When not in the public eye, they are coming up with ways to better interact with ARMY or they’re expanding their horizons by reading and stuff.
~Her favorite thing with Joon is working on learning a new language or just English with Joon and making up little tongue twisters and sayings and debating proper ways to phrase things. Which brings us to:
~Being a part of the rapline. So Joon, Hobi, and Yoongi are her peeps. When she’s not entertaining the maknae line, she’s with the Hyung line.
~Hobi and her have a cute dynamic. He babies her a little bit and she’d be lying if she said she didn’t love it at least a little.
~they like coming up with dances together, even when they are supposed to be taking the day off, just goofing around and coming up with dances for little snippets of songs is fun
~they’re like the sunshines of the group. So he’s J-hope and she’s his ‘little hope’. How cute.
~She’s constantly encouraging his little quirks and things that he does(the sound effects and just being him) and being right there with him in being the lights of the group.
~I feel like her and Jungkook get the same bit of his attention. Like the cuddly bits of it
(and my heart skips for cuddly JungHope so like imagining the three of them being cozy and mellow together and just watching the rest of the group do whatever. Agh my heart)
~My boy Yoongles is next and let me tell you I’ve been excited as hell for this one.(trying real hard not to let bias love seep through)
~When moving to a more spacious apartment, they decided to give her her own room. (She’s grateful.)
~And so when she wants to tamp down the wildness in the apartment, get a moment's peace, she retreats to her room.
~While she’s endlessly supportive of all six of the others, encouraging their wild quirks, her room is the quietest. Her room has a ‘no noise’ rule.
~Yoongi shares a room with Jin still at this point and not that Jin is a bad roommate, or particularly noisy, it’s just that the maknae line patronizes him a lot. And Yoongi has very little patience for that.
~So her room is where they’ll often find him. She has a comfy couch that she took Yoongi with to pick it out(because it was basically for him.)
~Point is, she’s mellow when she wants and needs to be and Yoongi is drawn to that chill side of her.
~When the rest are wild and he wants mellowness, he seeks her out and when she wants to be a bit rowdy, she leaves and closes the door.
~He has a gigantic soft spot for her. Not even kidding.
~The boys will always pull her into the situation if they think Yoongi might get too angry or a prank goes south and does more harm than fun amusement.
~They mention that she was involved and she goes with it because she doesn’t want the boys in too much trouble and Yoongi won’t hurt her like he would the boys(not actually hurt but you know like “beat them up”) or scold her too harshly.
~As soon as he finds out she’s involved the anger either dissipates or he removes himself from the situation so as not to hurt anything(but you bet your ass she scolds the maknaes from time to time on Yoongi’s behalf)
~And he definitely helps with her mixtape which the fandom is waiting for. Basically, chomping at the bit. She gives Yoongi and Joon so much credit tbh
~They definitely nap together. Mostly because they’re up at ungodly hours during the night, either working on songs or just talking because that’s definitely a thing that happens.
~They have similar views of the world(I’m mostly thinking of Interlude: Shadow here) but being lonely while being famous is definitely a view they share and are drawn together from that. Despite all of their wants to be on the top of the world, they want to not be lonely.
~Along with her keeping up well with the rowdy bits of the group, she’s definitely introverted like Yoongi. She does what she has to to further the group, but she does get drained and just kind of shuts everyone out some times.
~This is where Jin comes in. (Not to be that cliché bitch who’s always like Jin’s the mom of the group omg) but in this case, he makes sure she’s eating and taking care of herself when she does this.
~They all have locks on their doors and she keeps hers locked a majority of the time, but Jin and Yoongi are the only people she absolutely trusts with coming in unannounced.
~Despite always laughing at his dad jokes and being totally supportive of that, he knows when to turn on being serious and not taking her bullshit about “being fine” if she’s not.
~He forces(more like needles annoyingly) her to eat even when she says she’s not hungry during those times
~Makes sure she’s taking care of herself like showering and brushing her teeth and things.
~During the earlier years when she mostly stayed with the boys, very little contact to her mother in New York, Jin absolutely made sure he had cramp medication on hand and feminine products stashed in spots around the house. Well hidden obvi so the boys wouldn’t just stumble across them, but still there. (She does these things on her own now, but she’ll never forget the thought he put into making sure she was cared for)
~She’s definitely requested a majority of the time on EatJin. ARMY just likes to make sure that she’s eating(just like all of them) and they want to see the two of them talk.
~All in all, the boys are her family and she wouldn’t trade them for the world.
GCSE Science Revision Courses
LEARN WITH MASTERMINDS
“A teacher’s Cry”
“A bumpy road”
Here I am, in a position to transfer my passion, knowledge and skills in science to the younger generation. Working at a school could not be better where I have the opportunity to interact with children and make a difference. However, as I take the journey of becoming an “expert teacher” progress slows due to a few bumpy roads.
Bumpy road one…..packed class sizes, a teacher to student ratio of 1:30. There is no doubt that in every class variation in abilities exist. A powerful tool to tackle these variations lies with a teacher’s ability to plan effective lessons. During the first year of my Teacher training, I have participated in small group interventions. It was evident, that varying abilities even existed within higher ability groups. Observing colleagues, being reflective on my own teaching practice, engaging in weekly readings and Continuing Professional Development (CPD) sessions have enhanced my teaching practice and pedagogy. This leads to improvements when dealing with differences in abilities. Crowley et al., 2018 stated in “The Ultimate Guide to Differentiation” that there are a variety of factors that affect how children learn and should be taken into consideration when lesson planning. Some examples are pupils’ special educational needs (SEN), differences in abilities, speaking English as an additional language (EAL students), physical disabilities, age group and the level of prior knowledge, motivation and concentration. The scariest question I ask myself frequently as a teacher is whether the needs of all my pupils being met. Even though there is room for improvements within the other teaching standards, I can honestly admit that I have found teaching standard five the most challenging. In accordance with teaching standard five, teachers should use a variety of differentiated approaches to adapt to learning for varying abilities. A teacher’s awareness of the factors that can inhibit a pupil’s learning can be combat by keeping up to date with recent research, applying new strategies within the classroom and critically evaluating and reflecting on strategies trialled. It is also vital to have an understanding of how pupils learn throughout their stages of development. All of our Mastermind programs are based on a teacher-student ratio of 1:10. Lessons are planned before delivery to cater for varying abilities. Revision courses are also based on examiners reports; a report produced yearly that concludes all the topics and skills of difficulty faced by the students that took the actual exams that year. Our small class sizes also come in handy for our live online-required laboratory experiments that are tested on the actual exams. These experiments are explained in detailed so that students obtain rich knowledge on scientific concepts.
Bumpy road two……..” The best place for students to learn is at school with their peers”. A study showed that most children hate school. In a way, I do agree with the children’s feeling. Put yourself in their shoes. How would you feel in you were sat in a classroom and being taught to pass an exam rather than having the opportunity to do other “fun stuff”? One of the factors mentioned earlier, that could inhibit a pupil’s ability to learn is lack of motivation (Crowley, 2018). It is not surprising that some students struggle terribly with academics. Some schools do not cater for non- academic students; I strongly believe that due to the lack of choices, some students become disengaged. For example, some students may be interested in more “Hands-on” courses such as hair and beauty, sewing or carpentry. Claxton et al., 2008 states that children do not like school due to a rather boring curriculum. The study concluded that teachers felt that schools were more about passing examination results rather than teaching life skills that aid students in their transformation into adulthood. Some of the subjects that teachers thought would be beneficial to the curriculum were global awareness, human rights and managing risks. In addition, Teachers also thought that the following courses would make difference ethics, body awareness, resilience, and relaxation. A study “Draw a teacher” in Finland consisted of 428 fifteen-year-old students and 134 of their teachers. The study concluded that both teachers and students agreed with the values that an ideal teacher should possess. Some of the frequent ideals included honesty, forgiveness, loyalty, broadmindedness, equality and world at peace (Ellis, 2013). Children view teachers as role models; expectations should be set and maintained through consistency. Children will follow suit resulting in successful lesson outcomes. Masterminds courses do not only focus on academics, but we also conduct a lot of fun and engaging activities that focus on transferable skills. Report cards are sent home to parents three times a year that focuses on both academics and transferable skills. Parents also have the opportunity to attend face-to-face online meetings to discuss pupil’s progress. Our expectations are high for all our students and we act as positive role models so that children can follow suit.
Bumpy Road three……. Here at Learn with Masterminds we want to push our students but at the right level! Schools are singing the same song in a teacher’s ear. The kids need a challenge! The kids need a challenge! Can challenge always be seen as good? The level of challenge can inhibit pupils’ learning. Author Cowley S. could not have stated it better in the author’s “Top ten teaching tips”. It is important to be “flexible” and know how to “strike a balance”. If the content is too simple or difficult this may allow students to become off task or disengage completely from the lesson (Cowley, 2013). Vygotsky states that social interaction is the key to learning. This is because people learn through the experiences of others. Vygotsky stated that people learn from MKO (Most Knowledgeable Others) in a Zone of Proximal Development. The Zone of Proximal Development is an area where learning takes place with the help of an MKO. The Zone of Proximal Development is an aspect of scaffolding and can be best achieved by assessing a student’s prior knowledge, encouraging group work, allowing an MKO to lead the group, breaking down complex information into simpler forms and introducing the challenge to stretch an individual out of their comfort zone. Scaffolding a building provides it with structure, as the building progresses the scaffolds are removed. Scaffolding techniques can be used through modelling to explain a task thoroughly; students -teacher interactions can be used to boost practice. As the student's practice increases, the level of teacher support should decrease gradually. As the level of challenge increases, the level of competency also increases within an individual’s zone of proximal development. If the work is too difficult, students can become disengaged and if the work is too easy, students could become bored, increasing behavioural problems (Bates, 2019). Learn with Mastermind courses are strongly based on Vygotsky’s theory of learning and Rosenshine’s ten principles on instruction with aspects of the challenge being pitched at the right level.
Bumpy road four… The school curriculum seems separate but we should bring maths, geography into science, English into science. All these subjects should be taught in a way that shows students a linkage. However, for some reason students perceive all these subjects as different. For example in biology students are taught Ecology, this is a brilliant time to talk about global warming which should have been learned in geography! Learn with masterminds Implements Maths and English into science! These workshops aid to enhance graphing, data analysis, grammar and punctuation skills. Why should English and Mathematics be implemented across science? In 2007, 44% of students obtained a baseline pass in GCSEs (Minimum of five GCSEs including Mathematics and English). Around 350,000 teenagers struggle with Mathematics and English (Claxton, 2008). During a CPD session, I have learned that in Britain 1 in 20 adults have a reading age of five years old and about 28% of adults have a literacy level of 1 or below (grades D-G).
Bumping road five… When schools refuse to stretch the pounds. Carpel, Leask and Younie, 2019 states that there are two types of motivation. Motivation can be intrinsic; this occurs when students engage with an activity for their own sense of pleasure. Motivation can also be extrinsic; this occurs when students are engaging with an activity to obtain for example a prize. It worries me, that some schools have no homework policy. I had recently issued a piece of homework during a sequence of learning. About 20% of class completed the homework and were given positive points for their efforts. There is absolutely no consequence for the students that never bothered to complete the homework. It is a culture shock for me to see that student’s books are left at the back of classrooms, students being reluctant to complete homework and participate with independent learning. What are we teaching our kids for University level of study? I teach my year 11 class, three times over two weeks. It is not enough time to master a concept fully. The practice is required outside of school to allow for a mastery. Once a task is repeated numerous times, your brain stores the information and tasks become automatic (Willingham, 2009). Are summative exams good or bad? Looking at the positive end, good grades on a test can increase a pupil’s level of motivation. This success builds confidence and sparks a student to achieve more (Carpel, Leask and Younie, 2019).Assessments can affect a student’s level of performance and self-esteem. There are three main issues surrounding assessments. Firstly, assessments are inconsistence, are not shared or evaluated among teaching staff. How can we tell if pupils are being tested on what they need to know? Secondly, the majority of the times grades are given only rather than written advice that will allow a student to address misconceptions. Grades only feedback is unfocused and lacks the ability to amend gaps in knowledge. Research has shown that issuing grades only after a test can defeat the purpose of the feedback process. Thirdly, predictions are made on a teacher’s own set of grades; the previous years are not taken into consideration. Some teachers are incompetent and are unaware of the teaching needs of pupils (Black and William 2006). Weekly homework forms a part of our Masterminds courses to allow for practice, mastering and time for students to respond to feedback. Both grades and written improvements are given and students are required to act on these. Good grades, attitude and punctuality can increase a student’s chance of obtaining a £25 student of the month gift card! Should we have standardised exams or summative assessments? I truly believe that testing a student based on grades only is not the most effective strategy. We need to allow the students to release their creativity to form their inner self. What exactly is the purpose of education? We are moulding young people to become well-rounded individuals. Young people must be tested on transferable skills for example teamwork, communication or public speaking. I think that a student’s final grade should be a mixture of both coursework and exams. Coursework assignments are a useful tool for assessing a student’s ability as anxiety is reduced. In addition, the new generation is focused on technological improvements for example smartphones and tablets. These create “noise” and takes away from the “thought process”. The curriculum should shift from an exam perspective to life skills or Mindfulness. “Mindfulness” is important for the brain’s relaxation; technologies create noise and “loss of thought” resulting in a “loss of creativity” (Stephen and Warwick 2015).
The Signs as things I wanted to be when I grow up
[This has literally been in my drafts since December because I wasn't sure if each option matched with the sign I chose but whatever (it's also a long post again, oof)
Also I didn't really post anything related to 2020 so... Happy New Year, let's hope something good will happen this decade!! 💖]
♈ Aries: Be part of the army. I was quite fascinated by the idea of guns and protecting the nation and actually getting my life together. I was actually thinking about it for quite a while until I realized that in order to get accepted (at least according to the Greek system) you need to have excellent grades (especially maths/physics), to be taller that 165cm and to be excellent in sports. Guess what, I don't understand physics/science/chemistry, I've been about 158cm for the past 3 years and the only two sports I'm good at are badminton and tennis (while you need to be good at running, swimming and things like that I guess 😕)
✧
♉ Taurus: A chef/baker. Cooking and baking always seemed pretty fun. I would always sit by my grandma whenever she cooked/baked goodies and observe the whole process. I also got inspired by the movies "The Princess and the Frog" and "Ratatouille" and thought that one day I could possibly come up with my own recipes and open my own restaurant. But while growing up I realized that I can't cook properly when I'm stressed/multi-tasking (I'm capable of burning the food AND the kitchen if I get slightly distracted, ooof)
✧
♊ Gemini: A TV presenter or a weather woman. My mom told me that from the age of three I would always pretend to talk to an audience and answer questions from the callers or announce news/talk about the weather. Maybe that explains why I talk to thin air (as if I was a YouTuber) about anything and everything when I'm alone. Though it sounds cool, I don't really think I could do it now because I have social anxiety.
✧
♋ Cancer: A writer. I really like writing, I don't know why. Authors have been inspiring me since my childhood, I remember I used to read so many books and try to write something of my own based on it. 😅 I like taking notes and then re-writing them more neatly. I like re-doing old homework in a different style and see if I have improved. I really like writing in a diary/a bullet journal too, I feel like it's much better than bothering others with my problems anyway. I also love coming up with random scenarios/stories/characters and writing about it but I don't know if I should share it. Idk, sometimes I feel like my writing is a bit boring or that it's nothing that impressive. So, honestly, if more people took writers seriously instead of thinking it's a hobby as it doesn't always pay well (when did the world even start revolving around money that much, oml) and if I was more confident about my work I'd definitely chose to become a writer/author (I'm still keeping it as a hobby no matter what I end up doing, lol).
✧
♌ Leo: A model. Omg, I honestly don't know why I even thought of it. Probably because I really liked watching ANTM when I was younger (and I specifically chose the American version because the one we have in my country makes me cringe a lot, just hearing girls from my school talking about it is painful). My friends also liked the outfits that I put together or how I would always pose for pictures (a few years ago, I'm too awkward now asdfghjkl). Looking at it now it's just so funny. There's literally so much competition in the name of beauty, the community can get kinda toxic sometimes and the standards are pretty high. Also I'm way too short and I still can't walk like a normal person when wearing high heels lol.
✧
♍ Virgo: A teacher. Specifically, a teacher for elementary or even kindergarten. Back then, the concept of teaching seemed pretty fun to me and I had lots of ideas about how to make class more interesting. The thing is that I have good chemistry with most kids and I actually kinda dislike teenagers because of how rebellious we can get when it comes to school (idk but like teens in my country are like pretty rude to everyone 😐). I'm not so sure about it now, though it's still an option.
✧
♎ Libra: A psychologist. I always liked helping others out and offering advice when they're having a tough time and I was also curious to see what makes each person feel angry, sad or stressed and the way they respond. It's also interesting because you can learn a lot about someone's personality, preferences and way of thinking or understand what caused someone to commit a crime. I still really like psychology and it's one of my main options for uni. The only problem is that psychology is pretty much overrated in my country so people say it's best to choose something else. 😒
✧
♏ Scorpio: A criminologist. And, surprisingly, I still want it. I was always intrigued by things that required research, was interesting in learning what caused a murder/crime to be committed and I would always watch crime thrillers with my dad. I also like it because it's a field of Sociology which is one of my favorite subjects. I'm just hoping finals aren't super difficult so I can get accepted in the college that I want on the first try lol.
✧
♐ Sagittarius: A flight attendant. Back then I found it kinda fun, as I was always curious about what going on a plane is like. It could also be because of their outfits (like the ones you see in movies or in Britney's MV for Toxic, idk why 😅). Plus I would get to travel around the world without paying as much as the passengers. But then, at the age of 14-15 I got on an airplane 4 times and I saw that it wasn't really like the movies and that literally everyone ignored the flight attendant so yeah, it's not an option anymore. ✈️
✧
♑ Capricorn: A fashion designer. So because I would always draw and constantly ask for new crayons/markers and other art supplies, my mom bought me a few coloring books that focused on fashion. It came along with stickers, stencils, ideas for Victorian dressses, advice for how to design lace or mermaid tail dresses and I was so impressed. A few years later, my grandma showed me a few dresses that she had made for my mom when she was younger (which were so gorgeous like I'm definitely going to wear one of them on my graduation day) and taught me sewing. I also got to see these small floral designs that you usually see on lingerie and it was so pretty, I wish I could do it as perfectly as her. I decided to follow my grandma's advice and keep it as a hobby instead (because she ended up doing nothing but designing clothes and repairing them which she regrets 🧵🧶).
✧
♒ Aquarius: An astronaut. This was pretty random, I have to admit. I guess I really liked space and looking at at the stars in the night sky. I read a few books about space and learned a few things about NASA back in elementary too, though I realized that it's something I could never really do, as you have to sacrifice a lot. I'm still fascinated by this profession but there's no way I could ever do it, since I can't even understand basic physics or mathematics. 🤷♀️
✧
♓ Pisces: An artist. Honestly I didn't really care if most artists didn't get recognition/fame or if they didn't earn enough money, I just wanted to make art because I liked it. It's also fun because while you are expressing your thoughts through an art piece, another person might interpret it differently, based on their likings and thoughts. Art also plays an active role in my life: I've been drawing and painting since I was 5 and I would always watch the show with Bob Ross on TV with my grandma. Instead of completely giving up on this idea, I thought that I could choose another profession (also my family didn't really like the thought of me doing art for a living 😐) and keep art as a hobby.
