Great's Dying Brain vs Reality: Tyme's shaky start of an attempt at flirting
4MINUTES (2024) EP. 2 // EP. 6

Part 1
There is a universe, somehow, where everything aligned just perfectly and left four desperate children on Silco's doorstep. A universe where Piltover is just a bit more ruthless: where Vander's connections aren't trustworthy and where his foolish sentimentality wins.
Vander's arrested, in Vi's place. He's so proud of her for trying to do the right thing - but he'll not make a sacrifice out of Felicia's daughter. The violence in the streets has to stop and Piltover won't stop until it has someone to blame for the theft. So the Hound becomes a sacrificial lamb.
But remember, his agreements are flimsier, and the trust between enforcer and undercity is as thin as the razor blade Mylo keeps in his pocket. The gold-trimmed enforcers aren't happy with a Hound dressed in wool - they want the girl. The one Jayce identified. Some pink-haired snot-nosed filthy brat. The thief. The terrorist.
They labeled her a terrorist: Vi. For a near-harmless explosion in a district she would've been beaten in, just for the grime in her hair.
And the Hound won't have that.
For the second time in his life, Vander's knuckles are stained with enforcer blood and the undercity begins to burn. Vi's next to him, eager to fight, but scared. She's just a kid after all. Always eager. Always scared.
Claggor, Mylo, and Powder come running as they limp back to the Last Drop. Powder's too busy crying into Vi's shirt to pay much attention to the screams outside. Reinforcements are just a few minutes away. The rats of the undercity retreat to spare themselves from the brutality beneath an enforcer's heel and the streets grow quieter and quieter. They all know how to slip away when the time demands it, but this is more than sneaking through the sewers and waiting for the storm to pass.
The enforcers, the council, Piltover: they'll keep coming. The blood on Vander and Vi's hands ensures that much. And they don't want him -
He looks to where Vi is hugging Powder back, a: "Sorry Powpow," being breathed. "Didn't mean to scare you -"
He can't let that happen. He can make himself the bigger problem - the biggest threat and that will buy the kids time and give those rich bastards a victory.
But then... it'll just be them.
Claggor's strong, Mylo's sly, Powder's clever, and Vi is brave. They're all tough as nails and they'll make it. At least until this underbelly starts ripping itself around. Vander's a smart man who knows what will happen in his absence, the cannibalistic tendencies of desperate people who need scapegoats.
And Vi's already willing to play the martyr. She proved that much. No, if he leaves he needs to leave them with something. Anything. Something that's as willing to fight for their future as...
That's when he gets the terrible idea. Right around the same time he hears the tell-tale racket of enforcers running down cobblestone. He grabs a bar napkin, and Claggor bars the door. He fumbles messily around for a piece of graphite or a damned pen.
Vi pushes Powder behind her and grabs a half-empty bottle from a table. There's a shatter as she arms herself with razor glass. These kids are well versed at making weapons, they have to be.
They'll only get better at it if he finishes this note. He's signing their lives away to a different demon. There's no guarantee they'll live long enough to give him the note. It's a terrible idea -
"I'll never betray Zaun's children"
Powder's climbing behind the bar with him, clinging to his leg. Mylo climbs over the other side, fiddling with a collection of rusty steak knives. Claggor's grabbed a chair and broke it, two wooden beams in either hand.
Suffocating in the streets is better than dying on a bridge.
"Take this," he gives it to Vi before slipping on his knuckles. "Find Silco. Ask around, and he'll find you."
"What?" it's a challenge from her. She's ready to fight to keep what she has.
She doesn't realize that every fight comes with a loss. And eventually, it's going to take everything from her. Once you bloody those knuckles you never stop - not really.
But not today. Today it'll only take him, and hopefully, she'll remember what they talked about. She'll remember that despite this shitshow - he's proud of her for finding a peaceful solution. He's proud of her for putting down those fists.
But there was no way in hell he was going to let her go.
"Take care of each other," he orders slipping on his other gauntlet. Mylo and Powder stare at him with wide eyes. Claggor's lip is trembling.
"Remember. Remember, to look out for each other!" he orders.
"No!" Powder seems to understand now as Vander pulls the bracings away from the door. She scrambles over the bar with a muffled wail. Mylo stops her right as Vander throws the door open.
"Vander!" Vi screams, but the hound is loose.
He's in the streets and he's set about making these fools remember why they follow the light. Why they fear the undercity so badly they chase its children to sate their fury. Dark things live in the undercity. Zaun's children are raised in air so heavy it turns their lungs to iron. Her streets sharpen their teeth and build calluses over their knuckles until the only thing they feel is the warm crimson in their wake.
Vander had hoped he'd never do this - be this. But jaws shatter under his fist faster than glasses fill with his whiskey. He's good at this. Always has been. The kids slip away - he knows that much.
Everything else is a bit of a blur. He glimpses Ekko, once, on the rooftops. The boy heads after the other four and Vander is thankful for that. Benzo didn't survive the first wave... he doesn't have much chance to reflect on that because there's another enforcer in his grip and a new scream in the air.
He buys the kids plenty of time. Too much time.
Enough time for all of Zaun to hear the news: the Hound's fighting back! Five enforcers are dead! Six! Ten! Enough time for Vi and Mylo to find their informants.
Silco isn't exactly a subtle name. He's well hidden, that's true, but a familiar blond limped his way over to one of the abandoned warehouses after Vi kicked the shit out of him. Word on the street is that he's in with someone named Silco. Doesn't mean much to the informant or to Vi.
It's enough. They slip into one of Zaun's many industrial districts just as Vander finally falls.
Piltover's attack dogs got him - they would eventually, he knew that much. A wild hound is fierce but numbers always win. Part of him's happy to die on familiar cobblestones. Better than the cool stone of prison - better than anything Piltover had in mind for him. This way, the kids would know what happened to him. They wouldn't do anything stupid.
Well... they'd probably still do some stupid things. He coughed out a laugh, blood hacking out of his lungs as it all began to fade. Good. They deserved to be a bit stupid. They were kids...
Just kids.
Hopefully, Silco remembers that...
Silco? Oh, Silco remembers. He'd been making a plan revolving around that. Kids are foolish. Kids are loyal. Children are painfully easy to manipulate and kill. Children are easy to make disappear.
Killing Vander and his children was quite literally on his upcoming schedule. It was going to be a glorious sort of revenge, making Vander watch it happen - helpless to stop it as he drowned in his own pacifism. It was going to be inhumane. The final nail in Silco's old coffin.
So pardon him for taking a moment to stare at the victims delivered to his doorstep. Half of him wants to laugh. The other half feels like he's been shoved back into that damn river.
The children only stare back, wide-eyed and curious. Scared too... haunted in some wonderfully poetic way.
"Can I help you?" Silco demands cooly after his disbelief has been satiated.
The pink one steps forward, naturally. She's Vander's little favorite, his poster child: basically a replica. Taking charge is probably laced in her veins.
She hands him a napkin.
"He told us to come here," she breathes, and it almost sounds like a prayer.
Silco cannot focus on anything but the napkin.
"Well... not here," the wily boy in the back disagrees slowly as he gives a scathing glance to a dead mouse in the corner. "He told us to find you."
Silco watches them carefully and then unfolds the napkin. If this is a trap it's ridiculous and definitely not Vander's idea. Perhaps these children are simply suicidal - or stupid.
He reads it.
Pauses. Reads it again.
He glances to that pink one again: Violet. Felicia's daughter. The other one is to her right, clinging to the elder's bruised knuckles. Powder... right?
Mylo. And Claggor.
Vander's children.
Vander's children!
He reads it one more time.
"It is kind of messy," Claggor's sheepish tone contradicts his appearance sharply. "He was in a rush -"
"I can read it," Silco snarls. He whirls around and plunges further into the bowels of the warehouse.
The children follow, blindly. Because they were told to. They follow the devil into his den because Vander told them to.
Why Silco let them, he'll never be able to explain. Never. Why he didn't finish was Vander started: destroy all remnants of their old life, including those damned children - he'll never say.
He can't. Because Vander sent him his children and a note. It changes nothing.
Except it changes everything.
#Arcane#AU#Fanfiction#I guess#idk I may write more#Vander#Silco#Vi#Powder#Mylo#Claggor#If the stars aligned I do believe Silco would've raised those kids#Ya know how Vi just has to call Cait “cupcake”#Yeah#That but all Vander has to do is tell Silco “I trust you” and Silco's whole worldview falls apart#Yeah yeah the man I was died in that river#But did he? Are you sure??#Also this is 100% an excuse to write the eventual family reunion with Warwick#Which would theoretically be hilarious#After all the angst of#what happened to you?#Paired with the yummy: “I survived but at what cost" parallel between the two dads#Followed by Silco's: “YOU FUCKER - YOU LEFT ME WITH YOUR KIDS WHEN WE WERE MORTAL ENEMIES! I COULD'VE KILLED THEM!”#The kids be like this is our Dad#The drug lord Silco#and this is our other Dad#The warcrime Warwick#We love them very much <3#We gotta Part 2 and a Part 3 now for the AU :D

Wilbur Cross / Owen Carvour parallels
This is gonna be long so I’ll put it after the cut, also spoilers for Spies Are Forever or Black Friday, it’s been a while since either one came out but just in case. I’ve decided to colour code certain bits so it’s a little easier to read than a huge wall of text, I also just like colour coding.
I’ve only watched SAF once at this point, I’m not very good at retaining information from my first watch of stuff so if I forget anything or get anything wrong then that’s why.
So first of all, appearance wise, obviously they’re both played by Joey Richter (and he’s doing an accent for both characters). I think Joey’s hair is pretty similar for both characters as well. They also wear a blue jacket (at least I’m pretty sure Owen’s is blue).
Plotwise, both characters start on the “good side” or the protagonist’s side, before becoming the direct antagonist.
They both originally had a strong connection to a protagonist character (Owen with Curt and Wiley with MacNamara).
In Wiley’s case, he was Mac’s mentor, someone probably he looked up to, they were probably friends. As someone else pointed out, Wiley is one of the few people we see calling him by his first name, John.
In Owen’s case, he was Curt’s lover, best friend, and spy partner, they were obviously very close.
Both of them seem to have been extremely talented in their respective fields, Owen is established as an excellent spy, while Wiley was a Colonel (and again, Mac’s mentor)
Then they both experienced a major event that was very literally life-altering.
Owen slipped and nearly died in the explosion from the start of the musical.
And Wiley went through the portal to the Black And White, which led to the entire shift in his worldview and him pledging his undying loyalty to Wiggly (and probably the other LIBs).
For both of them, these events caused them to leave their original sides in favour of another entity that almost certainly played a role in the reshaping of their beliefs (Chimera and Wiggly)
The next time their previous relationships (Curt and Mac) see them again, they’re whole different people. Wiley is “a raving lunatic” and Owen is the Deadliest Man Alive.
They both develop a hatred for the person they were once very close with as well.
Both of them no longer believe in what they used to believe in, and their new beliefs contradict their previous ones, as well as the beliefs of Curt and Mac.
Wiley actively criticizes American capitalist society, political leaders, etc. All what MacNamara works for (the government I guess) and is attempting to save from Wiggly.
On the other hand, Owen now wants Chimera in control of all data, even extremely personal information (very dystopian), something that Curt is against, and Owen probably would’ve been against it too.
To list more random similarities:
Specifically the way Wiley says “PRODUCTS!” reminds me of Owen talking after he was revealed as the DMA for some reason.
Silicon mentions, Owen wants that one area of land for the silicon access, Wiley sings “a valley of silicon” in Made In America, Owen literally wants a valley of silicon lmao.
The government connections.
The whole Curt-Mega-plays-a-pathetic-idiot-man-while-Joey-Richter-plays-an-evil-mastermind thing too (I haven’t mentioned Howard Goodman yet but yeah)
Staircases (tm)
Also they can both be related to fruits (Wiley with apples and Owen with bananas)
#starkid#hatchetfield#black friday#black friday starkid#spies are forever#saf#tin can bros#uncle wiley#wilbur cross#general john macnamara#john macnamara#president howard goodman#howard goodman#owen carvour#the deadliest man alive#curt mega#agent curt mega#joey richter#wow look at me yap#Me when parallels (part 2)#Wrote this out for over an hour#I planned on rereading it to double check but whatever it’s fine#Lis needs to shut up

andor finale
Greetings yall
After months of lurking in the rebelcaptain side of ao3 and tumblr, I've finally made my own account in 1am instead of sleeping just so I can rant about it.
Does anyone else also think about that in rogue one Cassian told Jyn "We don't all have the luxury of deciding when and where we care about something." And then we all watched him abuse the luxury over and over again for a whole season because yeah same.
Its just so frustrating to me because I still enjoy Andor as a show and it could've been fine as an independent story but now the last arc ended so abruptly that it failed as a prequel.
#Even season1 andor could transisted into rogue one better#There were so many parallel between jyn and s1 cassian#In luthen's word "this is everything? violating every protocol we live by?#What happened to cassian “kill me or take me in” andor#This is what happened when everyone gets a character development but the titular character#Tony Gilroy is responsible but I'm mainly blaming Tom Bissell who wrote the last episode#Part of me also can't help but mad at Diego who was the biggest rebelcaptain shipper to allowed this what happened to “the mirror hurts”#andor season 2#rogue one#Rebelcaptain#my first post

I am obsessed that Jedi: Survivor explores Cal more or less slipping into the dark side/dark behaviors and patterns and how leaning into emotion as a Jedi can make you significantly more powerful though also extremely reckless and aggressive - however a balance could perhaps be reached by Jedi with the patience and support to understand their darker emotions and how it could be beneficial or harmful given the situation. But they fr don’t. Every time something within that vein happens to Cal everyone is like damn… crazy. Anyway
#that being said I am… so sad they didn’t further flesh out Dagan and Santari#like that was a really big part of the genuine first 1/2 or even 3/4 of the game and then… like#I understand it was mostly symbolic and that Cal and Merton saw the foil of their own relationship (kind of) and that love is not a good#enough excuse to be a monster but also like… that parallel did not come in almost at all#the whole game Merrin was based as fuck and pretty emotionally centered#SIGNIFICANTLY more than cal - and - if it was to be a true parallel then wouldn’t Cal have genuinely scared her in some way?#didn’t it seem like maybe when he embraced darkness he should’ve gone TOO far and Merrin would’ve needed to actually fight him to bring him#back to both himself and her?? they… almost… got there on nova garrun or whatever but.?#Dagan and Santari like that was an interesting as fuck relationship and I really REALLY wish they’d come full circle in the end but. didn’t#I felt like there was a bit of allusion maybe Santari had found a way to preserve herself too but. dude. they were so interesting as doomed#narrative antagonists or like whatever. I genuinely thought maybe Bode’s betrayal would be revealed like Dagan bodyswapped him#and that accounted for his seemingly bizarre switch up like. idk. grasping. and I loved the game do not get me wrong#but like. a lot of potential in a foil always and that did not see it through to the sequel#jedi survivor#jedi fallen order#cal kestis#jedi suvivor spoilers#I know it came out last year but. obviously I have just played it now

Just noticed in the episode Left Behind the song that plays in the background while Ellie and Riley explore the mall is 'Take On Me'
And the song that Ellie sings to Dina around the campfire and in Seattle in Part II is 'Take On Me'
#i know the show was after the second game but. makes me wonder if they did this on purpose#subtly showing that Ellie was finally able to heal and find someone to love/trust/have fun with & find comfort in#reigniting something inside her that she hadn't had/felt since Riley and probably thought she wouldnt feel again#maybe im reading into it too much but i know Neil and Craig are both really into parallels & symbolism when it comes to the games/show#just a neat little detail i noticed#and yes i know ellie dated cat before dina but it seemed like cat & ellie never had much of a deep connection#tlou#tlou 2#the last of us#the last of us hbo#tlou hbo#the last of us part 2#tlou part 2#ellie williams#ellie tlou 2#ellie williams hbo#the last of us 2#the last of us II#ellie tlou#thoughts#journal

some very very quick costume shorthands!
#&juliet#had the absolute luck of watching this live the other night and it was. truly amazing!!! aaah#rough character designs for the younger leads (excluding like the Grown adult duos..) because?? idk#this is how it always starts. once the character designs start getting simplified like this that's when it all begins#which is hmmm timing but i really can't shut up about this musical it was so so fun. absolute vibes and energy#made me laugh and cry and was such an Experience. i adore them all but may specifically made me sob at some parts dfjkldfh#lots of thoughts! but one of the favs is how they wrote it so the existing songs and actions fit so well.#like in a rhyming bit they had frankie accept a drink and then the song was like ''drink in hand'' and i was all !!!!!!#also maybe it's local censorship? but there wasn't the kisses.. they replaced it w kissing hands and then holding hands#which is like a cute nod to the ''hand to hand holy palmers kiss' or smth but also maybe two guys doing that would not have made it past :/#oh my god i. the way rnj parallels the shakespeare duo... whdskjfhgh. may + not being a Girl kdjhgf. frankie and may. aaagh.#angelique being so so badass. i . the speech about Gender by anne and the Proposal by angelique both made the whole theatre cheer love that#also rotating stage lives in my mind rent free i ADORE the set holy moly.. also also the actors were so good. also the Projections.#also the music and costumes and special effects and aerial moments. and the ensemble. and the choreo#also the cast is so talented. and pretty. and the whole confidence part vs the vulnerability of some bits... whshjfgjkl. hhh#im just listing stuff now but it was so vibes. what an experience ever. it's also shot me directly into 14-years-old again so#spent the morning alone vibing to the soundtrack intensely... i just... sometimes things hold special places in your heart idk!!!#i don't know what to do with these designs though... like the show is such a lovely Spectacle but also idk where to branch out by myself no#there's so much to Absorb again and again. i get the feeling any true work from this i would do in a form of an animatic though.. oops#tldr? 1. &juliet very good just as itself 2. we have History 3. i got to see it live which always propels me into bonkers over musicals!#so so rough but i needed to get smth out and . whatever. an art blog is an art blog. back to hiatus now i think#<reminder to myself: this is essentially an artchive.. there's no quality control if you don't want it! have fun!! ily>

2024 reads / storygraph
Walking In Two Worlds & The Everlasting Road
YA sff set in the near future where an opensource augmented reality is commonly used like social media, and there’s also a completely virtual fantasy game version
follows an Anishinaabe girl who who’s the top player in the VR game, and is constantly fighting to keep her place against the misogynist neo-nazi group in second place
as well as her real life, dealing with being a shy and self-conscious teen growing up on the Rez, and her brother having cancer
and a Uyghur boy who’s moved to her community from China after finding acceptance in an online community (even when he doesn’t agree with their more extreme views) - but when he gets to know Bugz, he has to decide who truly deserves his loyalty
great mix of sff and culture, the future while also very real community traumas of the past (and present)
#walking in two worlds#the everlasting road#wab kinew#aroaessidhe 2024 reads#This has some REALLY interesting and important concepts!#I just think it could have used some more development… Obvs this is YA and I’m an adult I know I’m not quite the audience!#There’s a lot of depth in the setup of the characters but I feel like it skips a lot of the progression#I think there could have been space for more development in a lot of places to make the story feel more dimensional#- but also has so many plot threads that maybe that would have bulked it out too much#It does also jump around quite a bit between the different parts but I think that makes sense with how juggling with irl / online life.#she’s got a lot of internalised fatphobia at the start (and the love interest going “I don’t think you’re fat!!” when people call her fat..#then in book 2 suddenly she’s okay about it - again I wish there was some progression!#her brothers cancer journey is. basically all offscreen lol mostly as set up for plot in book 2. so it doesn't have the emotional impact it#could have..#I liked the way it integrates her culture into the game in a really cool way (though I would have liked more detail there)#also having auto language translators but they regularly don't translate quite right / still run into issues - realistic!#the parallels drawn between his being taken from his family and put in a state education school and Indigenous residential schools#the way that a future world will never be as separate from the past as ur average sff future often portrays#but yeah anyway lots of good ideas execution not so much for me..

the fic is now 40k. has anyone kissed? no. do I know how long it is going to be? no. have I written a truly obscene amount about A. the social construction of gender in a society where reincarnation is a thing, B. the societal implications of your children maybe just turning into someone else and leaving you in their early teens, and C. the mortifying ordeal of trying to explain gender to a guy who is convinced that he knows what gender is but actually his concept of gender is totally different than yours (and also Wrong)? yes, obviously, who do you take me for
#Queenie actually says something on this blog#parallelism palooza: the journey#this fic is now longer than any of my published fics (disjoint is only 38.2k)#unfortunately the audience for this fic is approximately 2 people and 1 of those people is me <3#but I'm having a GREAT time which is the important part#I WOULD like to finish it someday but who knows when that'll be lksjfdusaofsua#anyway is it really a Queenie fic if the kissing isn't gated behind thousands of words of Other Nonsense?

Came across this GIF and... was Garcia trying for a hand graze?!?! 🥰❤🥰❤🥰 I don't think Lucy knew he was going for that otherwise I don't think she would've moved her hand 😂
But like... Shitmas is the worst, but I will still look at pictures and GIFs of Garcy from it (but I don't think I can watch with audio because hearing shitty dialogue would be extremely triggering for me). I can watch the São Paulo scene though (hello! SCRUFF!), especially how I edit that scene in my fanvid "Nothing Else Matters"
👇
youtube
I ramble in the tags, too 😂😂😂😂👇
#battleshipgarcy#battleshipgarcy insomniac ramblings#timeless#garcy#garcia flynn#lucy preston#i don't need a time machine to go back to change that Shitmas 'movie'#i need a machine that can take me to the parallel world where Timeless had 5 seasons & garcy lived happily ever after#also when i'm out of town without my laptop... that's when my fanfic writing brain comes up with so many good ideas#i spent the length of an entire movie last night typing fanfic notes into my writing ideas discord#i want to write but i can't until later next week#and i'm so afraid i'm gonna lose momentum bc when i'm out of town my (creative) energy depletes so quickly#and it can take days or weeks for me to recover#on the fun side of the trip i'll be going to a Titanic museum soon#which will probably make me want to write another Garcy/Titanic story#Youtube#oh! and... i got 2 more people to check out Timeless OG26!!!#aaaaaaaaand i got someone who barely remembers Timeless to start reading 'starlight & strange magic'#for a while it kinda felt like the better parts of 2018 - back when i got around 50 people to watch Timeless#back when we foolishly believed Timeless could get renewed or saved#damn we were stupid optimistic idiots back then bc later... Shitmas happened#and honestly if they hadn't 'resolved' the ship thing i think Timeless might've had a better shot at being saved#but resolving it in the way they did pushed away the majority of the fandom (the Garcy fans)#i hope Fate shits all over arika and lauren for the rest of eternity for what they did to Lucy and Garcia in Shitmas#💩#😂😂😂😂😂

Sonine Prime ... Part 3
Hi, everyone and welcome back to Sonine Prime! The part of the show when I come out and talk about Sonine (and a bit of Sontails) in Sonic Prime!
Last time we finished up the set of scenes starting with their meeting and ended with Sonic and Nine's capture by the Chaos Council. This time, we're hoping to get to move on to the next episode before moving on to the next part😂
ㅤ
<< Part 2 | Part 4 >>
(Essay/thoughts/analysis under the cut)
ㅤ
Starting out with an honerable mention of a moment!

"Nine! Is that you?"
Nine: You're just wasting your breath.
Sonic: Omg Nine👀😊
ㅤ
And then, just before Sonic is put through a series of grueling diagnostic tests, Nine is used as collateral to get him to comply.

"Do not fight them. It will only end badly. For him."

"Nine!"
"Okay, let's start the test. The sooner we do this, the sooner Nine and I can get out of here."
ㅤ
Another small thing:
The way Nine tenses up furing the first test, as Sonic risks being shot by both laser guns (another tick in the "Nine cares a surprising amount about someone he just met" box)

ㅤ
Hmmm, and the little things just keep coming, don't they?
Sonic loses his footing in the giant hamster ball filled with spike balls.

"Sonic!"

Which of course, makes Sonic palpably annoyed

Hmmm almost reminds you of when Eggman insulted Tails, doesn't it?
"You wanna test me, Eggheads? Question. How do you tick off a hedgehog? ANSWER. Mess with his friends!"
Hehe. Interesting.
"No one messes with my best friend!"
vs
"How do you tick off a hedgehog? ANSWER. Mess with his friends!"
ㅤ
Sonic begins to "hallucinate" as he says, and we're treated to another flashback
Amy: I guess he didn't hear the stick together part.🙄
Knuckles: Does he ever?
Tails: No. But he also hasn't let us down when it really counts! You know Sonic. He'll catch up at some point.😊
No comment about how everyone else is at least mildly annoyed at Sonic and Tails stands up for him in a way that redirects their attention from what Sonic did/is doing to the fact that he'll be there when they need him.

Good bye Season 1 Episode 1 of Sonic Prime, hello Episode 2!
"It's not about the zigs or the zags... It's about the friends we made along the way."
Sonic looks at Nine, has a flashback/vision of seeing Tails and Shadow before the shattering. Then, he looks at Nine both after being confused and still a bit out of it

ㅤ
Okay, so aside from that funny little moment (Sonic's face), there are some little things to piece together from Nine's end after the council brings out the energy extractor.
First, unlike Sonic's repeated winking afterwards, Nine winks at him smoothly. He doesn't change expression as he does so, and it happens in a singular smooth motion. This makes sense as to why the message Sonic received from the wink was a sort of "I have a plan". While we can't know exactly what he meant, what is clear was that the wink at Sonic was deliberate.
Second, the way he plays off the earlier wink. I think it's pertinent to mention that he's at the end of two Eggforcer's weapons, and Sonic hasn't exactly been subtle this whole time with the winking. His fairly loud whisper to Nine about a plan isn't exactly subtle either (and Nine isn’t exactly the confessing to caring about someone type), so it makes sense if he plays the earlier wink off as having dust in his eye. There is a real contrast begin the smooth wink before and the way he rubs his eye when he says he just has dust in it. That also being said, they did just meet still, so even if Nine cares about Sonic a surprising amount, I think it can be true that his earlier wink was him trying to tell Sonic that he's thinking of a way out of this just as much as it's true that Nine might prioritize making sure he'll live at least if Sonic's not going to survive the extractor. And since this is all about talking about ways certain bits in this series can be interpreted, anyone want to talk about how "I just had dust in my eye" is commonly used by characters who are pretending they're not tearing up due to the display in front of them? Nine has been watching this display of a hedgehog's last words with...an interesting expression on his face, I'll say. Is he...confused? Just thrown off by how Sonic’s acting here? Dumbfounded? Who knows. All we know is that the camera cuts to Nine quite a bit to show us his changes of expression as Sonic speaks, and that after Sonic looks at him for a prolongued amount of time (after asking if he has a plan), his expression instantly changes. This is to say, even though he clearly wasn't tearing up/betraying sadness in that moment, what if Sonic looking at him then, asking if he had a plan, sort of made him feel laid bare? What if he was afraid for a moment that his expressions betrayed his thoughts and feelings on the inside? I mean, imagine meeting someone for the first time and caring about another person for the first time in years. Imagine you've been lonely and isolating yourself for years of your life, and this hedgehog you've barely met uses his last words to call you one of his friends. Imagine he's begging on what could be his death bed for a plan, and you haven't worked anything out yet (even though earlier you'd winked to make him feel better, feel like there will be a plan). He could die, you don't know what to do, you're still not sure why you care, why this makes you sad. You just met him didn't you? He looks at you for a while, asking for a plan, and for a moment, as you're afraid something will happen to you as he mentions plans to free him, you're also coming to terms with the thought that this hedgehog *could* die. Playing it off as just dust in the eye doesn't just save you from another nasty shock, but it protects you from feeling like the hedgehog is staring right into your soul, seeing your conflicting feelings.
Third, after Sonic says "looks like this is game over" and seems to accept there's no way out, the extractor closing in, the camera cuts away to Nine again, zooming in on his face. There's a subtle shift in Nine's face right then and he looks...almost sad, or like he finds it hard to believe that this is real. Then, when it cuts away from Sonic again, after he says goodbye, Nine's eyes are wide.
Actually, on Nine's expressions during what he and Sonic both believe to be Sonic's last moments, I may have hit the picture limit, but I can at least embed a clip here so you all can watch Nine's expressions.
All I'm saying is that if Nine wasn't having feelings about all this in some form, the creators would not have chosen to keep cutting away to Nine's expression, bidding the audience to see and wonder how he feels about all of this. And I think the fact that Nine is reacting at least a little, not looking bored or uncaring or as if he's trying to get this over with, tells us a lot about Nine and what the creators wanted the audience to focus on.
More evidence to the "Nine cares a surprising amount for a hedgehog he just met and doesn't only care about him out of curiosity/what sonic can do for him" box
Not to mention that just after this, when Nine gets his chance to slip away, he frees Sonic right after freeing himself. This is one of these scenes that *is* arguable, as there's really no point in him leaving Sonic there to die. But, we know that Nine has the capability to go on the offensive (not just because of the entire fight scene from episode 1, but also from the fact that he destroys/dismantles an eggforcer at the computer without even needing to turn around) and Rebel and Renegade are there. So it personally tells me a lot that Nine didn't leave Sonic there to fend for himself (especially since he'll later weigh his options and choose to leave Rebel, Renegade, and Rusty to the council over the chance of saving them and losing the red shard).
ㅤ
Wooo! Season 1 Episode 3, everybody, let's go!
Now, this episode starts with a pre shattering flashback. Just like in episode 2, Sonic's friends talk about how annoyed/frustrated they are that Sonic isn't yet fighting with them. After everyone says their piece, Tails again stands up for Sonic, telling them that Sonic will arrive at some point and that he knows he will.
(We'll come back to these flashback bits with Tails standing up for Sonic while others don't trust/believe in him or are annoyed at him later)
And back to the present, Nine just manages to take control of Rusty Rose in time to save Sonic.
Now, as there are a couple things I'd like to bring to everyone's attention with the aid of screenshots, until part 4, everyone!
Next time we'll hopefully get to tackle the rest of episode 3, and there should be smooth sailing til the last few episodes of the season after that.
#essay time#i just be ramblin#sonine#sonic prime#sonic the hedgehog#nine sonic prime#miles nine prower#sonine prime#This part contained more tiny things (changes of expression and reactions) but I hope it was enjoyable regardless#I should also mention that I think Sonic's usage of 'friends' in opposition to 'best friend' (when I implied these scenes were parallels#earlier) also tells us the state of his relationship with Nine atm. Even though his relationship with Nine is based off of his familiarity#with Tails and his original assumption that Nine is Tails without the proper memories‚ Sonic prime makes sure to allow Sonic's feelings#about Nine specifically to burn slower. And it does so by having Sonic refer to him as his friend/buddy first‚ and then best friend towards#the end of season 2. While I'll most likely ramble on about this later too‚ it's exemplary about how even though you cannot deny how#Sonic's friendship with Tails affects how he treats Nine‚ Sonic still does develop his feelings about Nine over time (all things considered#rather than adopt him as a best friend simply because Tails is. And I think that shows us‚ the audience‚ especially with how Sonic prime#emphasizes how Tails being Sonic's best friend is special and different than being one of his friends#that Sonic truly did grow to consider Nine one of his best friends as he did Tails. And this...says a lot to me frankly

It's the way that one of Crowley's last desperate attempts to convince Aziraphale not to go is to say: 'you can't leave this bookshop'. The same bookshop that Aziraphale said was 'ours', in the same way he said 'I thought we'd carved [this peaceful, fragile existence] out for ourselves'.
It's a place that belongs to them, for all the intrusions in this series from Heaven and Hell. A place where Crowley leaves his glasses on an ornamental horse, where the tangible trail of Aziraphale's existence is scattered among the shelves, where they sit and drink themselves silly. It's the epitome of the two of them being 'us'. And it's as if he's saying to Aziraphale look around, look at everything we've built, there are the books I saved for you in 1941, you said it was ours and how can it be ours if you're not here?
It has Aziraphale's name on the front and Crowley's comfort through the door and not even a fire stopped them from getting it back so how can Aziraphale just walk away?
And in that moment, Crowley doesn't have the courage to say exactly what he's thinking, not after feeling like his entire speech has been brushed over. So, it's you can't leave this bookshop, not you can't leave me.
#rewatched s2 and banging my head against a wall#the tragedy of it all fuck me#i tried to get out coherent thoughts and not just the blood-curdling screams rattling through my brain rn#although i still wanna know why crowley was living in his car#and if he's been doing that for four years??!!!#then again given the sort of mentor relationship he has with shax to begin with i'd guess it was probably pretty recent#anyway something something parallels of aziraphale saying ourselves part and then the we could have been us part#thoughts perhaps for the morning when my brain isn't so tired#good omens 2#good omens#good omens spoilers#lit talks
