In the Christmas storyline, Bailey also received a gift. I’ve     always been curious about who gave him the gift. It seems that the PC  would not hesitate to give him a gift, but the game does not offer the  option to buy a gift for Bailey. Or perhaps it was given by Robin? I believe he’s the most likely person to do so. How did Bailey feel upon     receiving the gift, and how did he subsequently treat it? And what kind of     gifts would make Bailey happy?

初めてのコーヒーの収穫に挑戦しました！

みなさんこんにちは。インターン生のKurumiです。

今回は1月11日にバギオから5時間ほどかかるタジャンTadian町パンダヤンPandayan村でコーヒーの収穫作業に参加させてもらいました。今回はそこで感じたことなどを書いていこうと思います。

今はCGNのスタッフから話を聞いたり、自分でネットで調べたりしてコーヒーの知識が増えてきましたが、この収穫に参加したとき��ほとんど何も知らない状態で、驚きの連続でした。

まず「コーヒーの木ってこれなんだ、こんな感じで実がついているんだ〜」という、とても初歩的な驚きから始まったコーヒーチェリー(コーヒーの実)を摘む作業。熟れているものと、熟れすぎてしまっているもの、さらにまだ完熟していないものを選別しながら、完熟しているものだけを摘んでいきます。次の年に新しい芽が出やすいように実がついている茎の部分を残して実の部分だけを取るなど細やかな注意が必要で、たいへん繊細な作業だと実感しました。

＊コーヒーチェリーの写真。上記写真の白く囲んだ実の部分だけを取り、青く囲んだ茎の部分は残す。赤く完熟したものだけを摘んでいく。

また、それほどきつい斜面ではない場所での収穫でしたが、それでも私には簡単ではありませんでした。農家の人たちが私が摘んだ量の倍以上を���っという間に収穫していく姿には、日頃から山間部で農作業を行なっている先住民の人たちのフィジカルの強さを感じました。

収穫作業の後には、バランガイホール(村の公民館)へと戻り、昼食にみんなでピニピカンPinikpikanという鶏肉とサヨテ(ハヤトウリ)を煮込んだ伝統料理をいただきました。フィリピンでは手で食べるという文化があるのですが、意外とこれが難しく、慣れていないと手からポロポロ落ちてしまいます。私も最初は下手だったのですが、マニラにいた時にホストファミリーにコツを教えてもらっていたので、パンダヤン村ではみんなに褒めていただきとても嬉しかったです＾＾

選別後は、コーヒーチェリーから豆を取り出す作業に入ります。これも全て手作業。

この下の写真のように、手でコーヒーチェリーの皮を豆から剥がしていきます。一粒一粒この作業を行なっていくのでとてつもない時間がかかります。

私が参加した工程はここまでだったのですが、このあとも再度洗ったり、乾燥させたり、殻(パーチメント)を取り除いたりと、まだまだ工程は続きます。これまで何も考えずに飲んでいたコーヒーですが、パンダヤン村では収穫後に豆を実から取り出す作業を全て手作業で行っていて、こんなにも手間と時間がかかるものだということを知り、これからコーヒーを飲むときは一杯の重みをより感じるようになると思った貴重な経験でした。

＊乾燥して殻(パーチメント)を除いた豆はグリーンビーンズ(生豆)と呼ばれています。それらを焙煎してようやく馴染みのあるコーヒー豆の状態へと変わります！

My First Coffee Harvest Experience in Tadian

Hello everyone! I’m Kurumi.

A little time has passed, but today I’d like to share my experience helping with the coffee harvest on January 11 in Pandayan village, Tadian, about five hours from Baguio.

I’ve been gradually learning about coffee through CGN staff and my own research, but when I joined this harvest, I had almost zero knowledge about coffee, and everything was a surprise to me.

The experience started with my first real look at a coffee tree and its cherries. The task was to carefully pick only the ripe cherries while distinguishing them from overripe and unripe ones. To ensure new buds could grow the following year, we had to leave part of the stem intact—a delicate and precise process that required close attention.

The area we worked in was slightly sloped, which made it even more challenging. While I was carefully picking cherries, the people in Pandayan effortlessly harvested more than twice the amount I did.  Seeing their physical endurance firsthand was truly humbling.

After the harvest, we returned to the barangay hall (village community center) and enjoyed a traditional meal called Pinikpikan, made with chicken and chayote. In the Philippines, people often eat with their hands, which can be tricky if you’re not used to it, as the rice tends to slip through your fingers. Initially, I struggled too, but thanks to my host family in Manila who taught me the technique, I was able to eat skillfully in Pandayan. Everyone complimented me, which made me really happy!

After a short break, we started sorting the harvested coffee cherries. Despite our careful picking, some unripe green cherries and insect-damaged ones were mixed in, so we had to remove them manually. The farmers also used a method called "floating," where the cherries are placed in water, and the hollow, lower-quality ones that float to the top are discarded.

Next, we moved on to extracting the beans from the cherries, which was also done entirely by hand. As shown in the photo below, we peeled off the outer skin one by one. It was an incredibly time-consuming task.  My participation ended at this stage, but the process continues with drying and roasting. Before this experience, I never really thought about the effort behind every cup of coffee. Seeing how much time and labor go into each step, especially when done manually, gave me a whole new appreciation for it. From now on, I’ll cherish every cup I drink.

起床して、腹筋腕立て。

スリムベンチとゆー、腹筋運動補助器具が届いて、やりやすくなった。

朝；5分づき玄米　玉ねぎの味噌汁　納豆めかぶ　目玉焼き　自家製梅干し 塩鮭

仕事

昼；鶏ツミレとレンコン、ゴボウの煮物　白米　豆腐のおすまし(病院検食)

デスクに置きっぱの携帯に昔昔亭桃太郎師匠から着信。

驚いて電話すると、前に送った「金満家の憂鬱」をしまい忘れてみつからん。それと自分のCDを送ると約束してて忘れてたが近々送るが住所確認だった。

拙著、もう一回送りますというと、いいや、是が非でも探すというのでCDが届いたら送ることにした。

仕事

夕；サバの竜田揚げ　干し大根の煮物　サラダ　白米　持参の肉そぼろ(病院検食)

夜は当直。早々に19時過ぎに入院。大騒ぎ

着信。桃太郎師匠。「金満家の憂鬱」見付かりましたと。

0時就寝。0時10分に起こされて、舌打ちした。

[自炊]一日分の食事公開! food for one day

こんばんは。Good evening.

早速ですが、みなさん、自炊されてますか？毎食作ってると、結構しんどくて続かないと思います。かと言って外食が多いとお金かかったり栄養バランスが崩れたりしますよね…

Do you cook? It may become lazy to cook every time, but eating outside is not good for your health and wallet.

これが私の標準的な一日分の食事です。This is my food for one day. 

朝 breakfast

麦ごはん　 barley rice

野菜料理　vegetable dish

生玉子　raw egg

納豆　natto

煮干し　dried sardine

自家製ヨーグルト home made Yogurt

フルーツ（この日はキウイ) 　fruits (kiwi for this day)

昼 弁当 lunch, as lunch box 

麦ごはん　 barley rice

野菜一品　 vegetable dish

蒸し鶏 (時々 サバ缶)　steamed chicken (or canned mackerel)

夜 dinner

豆腐一丁 tofu

この献立だと、作るのは野菜料理一品だけで済みます。大体お米を炊いてる間に完成ですね。蒸し鶏は週に一度ほど、まとめて作っています。サバ缶はそのつなぎですね。そんなに高い食品は入ってないので、節約にもつながると思います。

This menu is optimized for easy cooking. I just need cook one vegetable dish, which will be completed while steaming rice. I use canned mackerel when I have no time to cook steamed chicken.

一人暮らしだと、一人用の食事を作るのは正直面倒だと思います。ですが、ここは発想を変えましょう。

一回で二日分くらい作れば、負担は減ります！圧倒的に楽です！！

It is really lazy to cook only for one meal. I usually cook for two days at once. 

健康だと思ってこんな食事をとっていますが、実際の所どれくらい栄養が取れてるか分かりません。

I believe this menu is good for my health, although I didn’t calculate how much nutrition is included.

五大栄養素で一番重要なタンパク質(卵、納豆、煮干し、豆腐、蒸し鶏) much protein in egg, natto, niboshi, tofu, chicken

豊富すぎる食物繊維(押し麦) fiber included barley

ビタミン豊富なフルーツ、野菜 fruits and vegetable with much vitamin

は毎日とっているので大丈夫だと思いますが．．．健康で節約出来る最低限度の自炊ですね。時間出来たらこの食事の栄養分析を行おうと思います。もっと良い自炊方法があるとかこんな料理オススメとか、コメントして頂けると嬉しいです。

This was my first attempt translating a full length doujinshi. I did a page a day to  prevent fatigue. I’m really happy having done it, since I really liked this one even before I could read it.

The lines with asterisks I have little faith it but I tried my best. I am however pretty sure that the line about motherhood is correct but I couldn’t understand it in context so I might be wrong hence the asterisk. I did occasionally struggle to read some of the kanji so it is possible I have misread some things and caused errors because of that. There were also two lines I wasn’t able to translate in the slightest which I apologize for.

純国産のふっくらボリ��ームたっぷりハンバーグには自家製ドミグラスソース

目玉焼きをのせて

塩鯖におろし。

フリッター２種。

小芋煮

葱和え千切り大根

ミニトマト漬け

大葉自家製佃煮

山芋のすりおろし

国産ひきわり納豆

無添加コーンひじき

お汁は茗荷となめこの味噌汁

炊き立て白ごはんと玄米

などなどをいただきました。

ハンバーグと塩鯖がメインなのでご飯が進みますね！
