Qué estuve escuchando #40

A partir de una conversación en el podcast que van a ver aquí, lo que viene a continuación es una descripción de las últimas tres experiencias significativas que he tenido comprando en el retail tradicional, en Amazon, y en Mercado Libre. Adivinen cuál de las tres fue la menos flexible.

El Podcast AAA #21 – Resident Evil 8 y la media mina

Paris, retail tradicional, fines de mayo de 2019. Por una emergencia personal, había decidido reemplazar el notebook ASUS que tenía. No tenía mucho tiempo para tomar una decisión tranquila, así que lo que mejor podía hacer era vitrinear en persona a ver qué modelo me tincaba a un precio accesible. Encontré un modelo ASUS que era liviano, de capacidades técnicas similares al modelo anterior. En ese tiempo también estaba cercano un CyberDay. Entonces se me ocurrió: A lo mejor puede ser la oportunidad para ver que había. Me metí durante el evento, y encontré justo ese mismo modelo en Paris a $449.990. “Ok, el precio está bien, veámoslo”, y lo pagué al contado. Pero la venta era con un detalle: El producto no estaba disponible para despacho, y si tenía que ir a retirarlo, tenía que hacerlo en el local en el que estaba disponible. ¿Ubicación de ese local? Mall Plaza Tobalaba, Puente Alto. O sea, que tenía que pegarme el pique desde Vitacura, primero en Metro, y después en micro para ir allá. Meh, he ido en transporte público antes por allá, puedo hacerlo. Hice el retiro, almorcé allá, y me fui también en transporte público para mi casa. No fue incómodo, pero no debió haber sido así.

(Nota al paso: Mi siguiente notebook, un Dell, y desde el que estoy escribiendo esto, lo compré directamente en PC Factory, en el local más cercano a mi casa.)

Amazon, agosto de 2019. En julio, hice una orden que incluía un libro y dos películas en Blu-Ray, que llegó semanas después a una de las casillas que tengo en EEUU, y desde la casilla se me envió a Chile. Cuando fui a hacer el retiro de los productos desde una de las oficinas de los operadores de la casilla, me percaté de que uno de las películas no era lo que yo había ordenado. A esa película le pusieron la etiqueta de la película que correspondía, pero en efecto, no era la película que había pedido. El flujo normal para resolver el problema sería pasarles el producto a Amazon para que ellos me lo puedan enviar de vuelta, pero como uso una casilla, y el producto está en Chile, se complica mucho la situación. Desde los operadores de la casilla me explicaron que podía enviarlo por ellos, pero a la larga, el envío de regreso me sale más de dos veces más caro que ordenar por Amazon la película de nuevo, y me instaron a que fuera a hablarlo con servicio al cliente de Amazon, total, el error es de ellos. Y lo hice. Les expliqué la situación. Resultado: Me reembolsaron el monto por el producto equivocado, y no tuve que devolver el producto que me mandaron mal, que, aunque suena impresionante, me sirvió accidentalmente para completar una colección.

Mercado Libre, agosto de 2020, en plena pandemia. Tenía planes de cambiar mi teléfono, y vi el modelo que me tincó a $350.000. Lo pensé bien e hice la compra. Los problemas no los tuve al hacer la compra, no, lo problemas los tuve cuando me estaba comunicando con el vendedor. Cuando quise coordinar mi compra, el vendedor me pasó un link para “confirmar mi dirección”, que resultó ser un phishing (suplantación) del sitio de Mercado Libre. Cuando me percaté, le reclamé para saber si estaba haciendo la venta en serio, me respondió así, textual: “buenas envieme todos susdatos, direccion, numero celular, ubicasion de su residencia”. Coincidentemente, el artículo con el teléfono que estaba vendiendo, que tenía 14 unidades disponibles al momento de la compra, desapareció. A partir de ese momento ya estaba claro de que me estaba engañando, razón por la cual esperé para que Mercado Libre me habilitara la posibilidad de reclamar, les expliqué la situación, y me atendieron el reclamo respondiendo que, si el vendedor no les responde en un plazo dado, Mercado Libre me iba a devolver automáticamente la plata, ya que aún no estaba en manos del vendedor. Y así pasó, el vendedor no respondió, y Mercado Libre me pasó la plata en mi cuenta de Mercado Pago, que no dudé en depositar de vuelta a mi cuenta corriente. Senda y feroz calificación negativa que se llevó el vendedor, por sinvergüenza.

Las tres situaciones que acabo de señalar, terminaron bien. Pero juzgue usted cuál de las tres fue la menos flexible. Y después el retail tradicional tiene las agallas de decir que ellos pueden competir de igual a igual con Amazon, Mercado Libre, o tiendas mucho menores, en términos de satisfacción, calidad de la entrega, o servicio al cliente. No me sorprende que ese tipo de retail se haya relajado, y después esté llorando porque están vendiendo menos durante la pandemia.
