Wait does roxas and sora battle and magic change because of what they are or is just the same in the series of the games?

If I'm understanding the question correctly, then yeah Sora and Roxas are able to use the same combat abilities they use in kh2, including form changes. Some things are different and adapted due to their circumstances, but they are able to do some different things because of headcanons and what they are. So sorta both? They both can use form changes but due to their instability it's a coinflip on whether or not they get the correct change or just antiform.

Roxas also has some magic and skills exclusive to him inspired by both his gameplay and the bossfight he gets in KH2FM. Conversely, a lot of what Sora can do normally aren't things Roxas knows how to do himself, and Sora's instability and status as a Heartless has let him take advantage of slipping into the shadows on the walls, even if it's completely by accident.

I'm sure there's some other abilities they could gain just by the fact they're visiting worlds that aren't in the Kingdom Hearts series itself and mingling with people that follow entirely different rules at times! The fact that the first major world Roxas, Hayner, Olette, and Pence visited (before even meeting Joshua) was the Comet Observatory from Super Mario Galaxy prooobably has a lot to do with the major trajectory shifts! Trust me, there is context behind each encounter, and part of the reason I'm considering sharing events non-chronologically is because I'm not sure how interested people would be in how things started vs how things are going, but they do provide context behind why certain things are they way they are and a reason behind things that aren't as obvious as "Roxas can use Reversal on anyone because that's his thing and he even uses it against Sora that one time."

Basically, a lot is different but I am trying to keep things as close to canon as I can manage. If things steer too far off course they may end up losing that connection to the source material you see XD

I spend most of my internet time on YouTube. It's a good website, I like video. But it's gotten demonstrably worse in the past five(?) years. I've posted about this a thousand times because it bothers me so much.

I am not sure exactly what the cause is, maybe changes in the algorithm or maybe better optimization by creators, but YouTubers by and large seems to have shifted from content to "content". Everything on the platform seems to have less substance. It's showier but completely vapid.

Actually it's not quite that, it's more specific. Today, every video has to have a narrative, it has to have suspense and payoff, even if that's completely shoehorned.

A good example of this is Minecraft videos. I don't actually watch a lot of Minecraft videos, but the change is really easy to demonstrate in this genre. The bread and butter of Minecraft YouTube used to be tutorials and let's plays. Tutorials are relatively brief but high information density; the point of a tutorial is to share knowledge with the audience. Let's plays are slower-paced and lower information density, they provide a kind of relaxing background entertainment similar to certain podcasts. The point is to chill out to them. Game Grumps is just about the only big channel still making let's plays of this form (not for Minecraft, just... at all).

Today, both tutorials and let's plays are second fiddle to the ubiquitous challenge video. Challenge videos are brief but low information density. They fundamentally have nothing to say. They have titles like "is it possible to farm 10,000 wheat in Minecraft in a month???", and the creator will attempt the challenge, cut together clips of their exploits in a rapid, high-intensity style, and generally try to craft these clips into a "suspenseful" narrative. They want us to ask "oh no, will he be able to do it????" But the narrative is always cheap and boring because it's so plainly post hoc. These videos provide none of the genuine emergent narrative or casual humor/banter of a good let's play, and none of the information of a tutorial. They're just faux-suspense, faux challenge, all the meat cut out and nothing but the trappings left over. Meaningless.

All of YouTube is like this now. Every video title has to have Big Number. "I dug 10,000 blocks in Minecraft!!!" "I spent 1000 dollars on vending machines in Japan!!!!" "I wore 50lbs leg weights!!!!"

SHUT UP SHUT UP SHUT UP. Give me anything. It doesn't have to be art. Give me information, give me entertainment, give me humor. Give me something, anything, other than Big Number. I cannot express to you the degree I don't care about Big Number. I have never been curious about Big Number. FUCK OFF WITH BIG NUMBER. I don't care about challenges I don't care about Most and Best and Top and Biggest. How about New, Cool, Fun, or Charming? Anything but Most. My god, shut the fuck up about Most forever.

When I got assigned, I didn’t expect much from tutoring. Maybe a few late nights explaining fractions, maybe some awkward silences.But what I didn’t expect was Rory Keaner.

“So wait, if x equals 3, then why does it still show up in the next problem?” he asked, pencil tucked behind his ear like a pro—except it was upside down and had somehow poked a hole in his hoodie.

I sighed, gently flipping his notebook around. “Because this is a different x, Rory. They don’t carry over. It’s not Minecraft.”

“Ohhh,” he said, like that solved every mystery of the universe. “Right. Got it. New x, who dis.”

He grinned, and despite myself... I laughed. Rory was... strange. But sweet. And he seemed to genuinely like spending time with me—even if he sometimes got distracted and tried to draw superhero capes on the math problems.

Still, i noticed things.

Like how he never ate garlic bread in the cafeteria. Or how he flinched whenever someone opened a curtain too fast. And that one time his reflection didn’t show in the school’s trophy case—just my face looking back at me, confused.

I didn’t say anything, tho. Not until the vending machine incident.

It was after a late tutoring session. We had been craving a snack, and unfortunately, my bag of chips had gotten stuck in the machine. I smacked it. Shook it. Groaned.

Rory, behind me, puffed up his chest. “Step aside. I got this.”

I turned around just in time to see him literally lift the machine off the ground with one arm and tilt it until the bag dropped.

He froze. I stared. What the freak?

“I—uh—new protein powder?” he offered weakly.

“Rory.” he knew I wasn't having any of it, at all.

“Okay, fine,” he blurted. “I’m a vampire!”

He must be joking... Right? Right?

“You’re a what?!” I ask absolute flabbergasted.

“A vampire. Like… movies. But not evil! I don’t drink people or anything. I tried once and passed out. Not my thing. I’m more of a juice box kind of guy.”

I laughed—half because i thought he was joking, and half because if he wasn’t... it made sense.

And then came the scream.

A shriek from outside the school building. We both ran out and saw a figure—pale, glowing red eyes, snarling at a poor freshman.

What the fuck is happening?!

“Oh man,” Rory groaned. “That guy’s from the Night School. He’s... not supposed to be here.”

I stood there, stunned, until Rory stepped in front of you, arms wide.

“Stay behind me. I know I’m not a cool vampire like Jesse or a chosen one like Ethan. I’m more like... a discount Dracula. But I’m not letting anything touch you.”

Awe how cute, if I weren't on a life or death situation . I would've blushed SO hard.

Before I could reply, Rory rushed in—awkward, ungraceful, but fearless. He got tossed a few feet, of course, but he still managed to distract the attacker long enough for a teacher (who turned out to be a witch?) to banish the rogue vampire.

When the dust settled, Rory limped over to me...

I helped him up and smirked. “Only if you promise to never lift a vending machine again. Seriously, that was terrifying.”

He laughed. “Deal. Also... I like you. A lot. Like, more than I like math. Which is saying something, because I hate math.” he said , noticeable shy.

I leaned in and kissed his cheek—right next to the tiny fang mark he'd accidentally given himself biting into a juice box.

“I like you too, Rory. Even if you are the knockoff brand.” I laughed, but I really mean it.

“Hey!” he said, mock offended. “I’m limited edition.”

“But still wanna tutor me?” he asked, wincing but smiling.

“ofc!”

second year in college majoring in marketing. also a part time streamer so yeah he’s a little busy :) currently roomates with y/n, when he asked her to room with him he told her they’d split the rent evenly but she has no idea he’s actually paying *totally* just *a bit* more than half <3 he’s just happy she’s with him but he's also been working very hard not to get her caught in any stream. thinks that things might blow up a little bit if people suddenly find out he’s rooming with a girl–a slightly well known skater of all people–and he’s right for thinking so. some of his fans are already a little weird about shipping him with others but he ignores it when he can. definitely has had a thing for y/n since high school and always felt a little nervous whenever she came to watch his games but kuroo was the only one on the team who noticed. he’s grown a lot more comfortable around her since then <3 they’re also co-parents of a cat they’re definitely not supposed to have in their apartment.

third year also majoring in nutrition but he’s cruising :) did volleyball and skated in high school but decided to pursue figure skating once he graduated. has worked a few times with y/n and they're good friends. also considers himself a girl’s girl and y/n backs him up on this <3 she wishes they worked together more but she doesn’t see him often. oikawa’s been besties with kuroo since high school and as a result also got to know kenma quite well. he’s pretty observant and has picked up on what’s happening between him and y/n as well so if kuroo doesn’t know how to respond to kenma they sit together at their little kitchen table in their dorm at midnight debriefing the tension going on between the two over tea and biscuits or something idk

I dreamed I found a weird vending machine and there was a button that said "go to Minecraft". I pressed it, and it opened a panel. Inside, there was a tiny screwdriver. I used it to open another panel, which inside just had another panel. I unscrewed that too, repeated until I finally get to an odd shaped button. throwback to when my class' president created a Minecraft server for people to play on over winter break and within two weeks there were complex alliances spanning a series of secret bases only accessible by nether transport, a giant vending machine that required a human sacrifice to get basic items, an underground system of enderman trafficking, and a monetary system based on wither roses that led to multiple withers being created in an illegal base in the middle of the ocean

The pixel power-ups came out pretty well! I would love getting one of these in a vending machine. Each of them are 1×1 inch.

They're based on the models I made for my Minecraft Super Mario resource pack, Super Mario Medley. They were the first (good) 3D models I made.

I'm going to reprint the Fire Flower since I didn't consider how it was going to stand up 😅 I have tweezers holding it up.

Tomorrow I'm getting color Sharpies in the mail, so I'm going to try coloring them. If it ruins them, I'll print more. They're tiny so it doesn't take long.

Update:

I used some of the Sharpies we have already. At this tiny size they really need a ultra fine point marker.

I'm a bit dissatisfied. Though I have to keep reminding myself that I can't expect everything to look great on the first try.
