Y/n and I laid in bed. Our bedroom lights flickering, and our TV blurring for a few seconds. Then the lights and our TV went back to normal. I switched the TV to new station wondering what the forecast was, “The forecast for the rest of the night, is thunder and lightning.” An older man said.
The entire day had been sunny, no clouds could even be seen in the day sky. Odd that all the sudden we’d get a rain storm, but I’m no meteorologist. “Are you asleep yet, baby?” I asked Y/n. “No, just watching the news, because you changed the channel.” she said messing with her pillow.
“Okay, okay. I’ll change it.” I said before going back to the hallmark channel. We had been watching a crazy love story for the Valentine special on Hallmark. “Thank god, all of these hallmark movies aren’t the same.” Y/n said before a yawn interrupted her speech.
“Sounds like we should get to sleep.” I said, and Y/n agreed shaking her head. As she rolled over to turn her side table lamp off, I turned off the tv, and then my side table lamp. “Good night, baby.” I said before kissing her softly on her temple. “Good night, honey.” She said, and then grabbed my arm and rolled against my body.
My body heat and her keeping us both very warm.
That was until early in the morning, I woke up to tossing and turning in the bed. Usually this never happened, not unless something had been bothering Y/n and she had elected to not talk about it last night before bed.
I sat up in bed, and waited for only a few minutes. Needing to know if this would stop, or if I needed to wake Y/n up. The clash of thunder and lightning made Y/n shift again in her position. Then she’d let out a huge sigh, and stay still. I only let this repeat twice, seeing as I needed to wake her up.
I shook her and said “Baby, honey wake up.” She murmured something that I couldn’t hear. “Y/n. Wake up.” I said shaking her a little harder. When she fell out of her sleep, she gasped like she’d be holding her breathe. “Make it stop, Misha.” She said trying to catch her breath, “Make what stop? Y/n, just come here.” I spoke.
“Make the storm outside stop, Please.” She said coming closer to my body. “I’m so scared, please make it go away.” She said jumping into my body when the thunder clashed against the night sky. I hadn’t realized that she was so afraid of the thunder and lighting.
We had a few bad rain storms but nothing that was bad like the thunder that was beating down outside. In my arms Y/n shook and cried. “Baby, it can’t hurt you.” I said softly brushing her hair down with my hand.
“I’m here to protect you.” I said humming. “Can-- Can you keep talking?” she asked tapping her fingers against my chest. “Of course, baby.” Once when I was young, and I cried because of the thunder outside, I’d run to my mother and father’s room. Jumping into their bed, my mother would hold me and cover my ears while humming an old song that her mother had sang to her.
“I'm going to cover your other ear okay, so all you can hear is the humming and not the thunder.” I said placing my hand over her ear. “You know you could have told me that you were afraid of the thunder.” I spoke. “I would have understood.” “I’m going to tell you a story, one about me as a child.” I spoke.
“Where my family and I were living it was un-usual for it to rain at all. But when it did, I was always scared. So, I’d run to my parents' room, my small feet hitting the title floor of our house. By the time I'd make it to my mother’s room, she’d be up waiting for me, with her warm arms open for me to fall into.” I spoke. I stopped to check up on Y/n. Her breathing was better, and her crying had stopped.
“She’d pick me up setting me in her lap, pulling the sheets up and over both of our bodies. My arms wrapping around her waist, and she’d hum one of her songs that she’d learned before coming to America. One hand always covering my ear while the other rubbed small circles into my back. She whispers that she loved me, falling asleep in my mother's arms, and I'd wake up in her arms.” I spoke.
Again, checking on Y/n, her breathe was slow and regular. Telling me at least that she had fallen asleep. “I love you baby,” When I said that, Y/n grabbed onto my t-shirt and squeezed it was almost as if she was saying ‘I love you’ back to me. And here Y/n and I laid in bed in each other arms.
In the morning, we were in the same position, her lite snoring, and long eyelashes covering her cheeks. I had woken up only a few minutes before she did. This was one of my favorite things to do, watch her sleep-in peace. “You’re so beautiful.” I said kissing her temple.
Her eye fluttered open, sleep could be seen in her eyes. “Good morning!” She said slightly stretching out. “You’re so warm. And squishy.” She said giggling a little. “Thanks!” I said rolling my eyes and smiling.
“I’m sorry you had to wake me up last night.” Y/n said keeping her eye contact on her hands. “It’s perfectly fine baby. You were scared and it’s my job to protect you.” I said lifting her chin, so I could look at her.
She nestled her face in to my hand, and said “I love you, and thank you.” And here Y/n and I laid in bed, legs tangled together, and our hearts in each other's hands.
