Why Spiderman-India/Pavitr Prabhakar is one of the best examples of Indian representation I've seen in a long time
Mumbattan
Lets talk about Earth-50101, Mumbattan, Pavitr's home dimension. Mumbattan is displayed as a beautiful, colorful dimension with lots of traffic, lots of people, and lots of culture. When we see Gwen, Miles and Pav swinging through Mumbattan, we see people wearing saris, people driving scootys, Indian-style billboards and even temples in the surroundings. This is an extremely accurate depiction of large Indian cities.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Mumbattan on the left, Mumbai on the right
See how similar these look?
Now compare this to how Hollywood's Slumdog Millionaire movie depicts India.
Tumblr media
Every single movie depicting India made by Hollywood portrays India as a country full of slums and dirty people. I have never seen Hollywood portray India as the beautiful, culture-filled country it is, and I have never seen one of the many beautiful temples, or the advanced cities represented in western media until now. Slumdog Millionaire is a fantastic movie, but India isn't only made up of slums.
Hollywood tends to romanticize struggle and when depicting India, makes it seem like a very depressing country. Yes, there are slums in India. Yes, there are people struggling in India. But that doesn't mean that India isn't beautiful. It doesn't mean India is behind. Mumbattan is the first depiction of India I've seen that I feel portrays the beauty and culture of India well. It is a fantastic representation.
2. Pavitr's personality
One of the most recent and most popular Indian representation series right now is the show, Never Have I Ever. In my opinion, this show is terrible. The main character, Devi Vishwakumar, is the stereotype of all stereotypes and doesn't accurately portray most Desi girls. She is rude, selfish, and extremely narcissistic. Her entire personality is being Indian and I find that extremely hard to watch. They make fun of her by addressing stereotypes like an excess of body hair, fashion, and even accents but instead of shutting down these stereotypes, they amplified them by making fun of them.
In western media, Indians are either portrayed as IT workers, scammers, grocery store owners, or nerdy, try-hard teenagers. Every show with an Indian teenager in it portrays them as cheap, unhygienic or unattractive which I, as an Indian, find extremely offensive.
Pavitr is portrayed as an optimistic Indian teenager who's smart and strong, without bragging about it, proud of being Indian without making it his whole personality and genuinely funny. He isn't portrayed as some skinny, nerdy guy with glasses. In fact, he's literally shown flexing his muscles, and performing well in class without going overboard about it. He's so full of culture, I can't even begin to explain it because I'll never stop. His suit, his mask, his webs, the way he moves, the way he fights, its all beautiful and I could watch for days on end without getting bored.
We were finally served an attractive, funny Indian character who isn't a walking stereotype, who loves and embraces his culture and just seems like an awesome guy to be around. Seeing him on screen made me feel so proud, of my religion and my culture. I hope Hollywood takes notes on this and continues providing the media with proper Indian representation and strong Indian role models for characters!
This article explains everything I said a little better, because I know my writing style can be confusing sometimes. It really goes into depth on how impactful it is on Indians to see this kind of representation for the first time in western media and how important this is.
Tumblr media
He's so pretty <3 I'm so proud that I look like him
Might go even more in-depth eventually, I just really wanted to get this off my chest because I love him so much 😭

Kaadhal Enbadhu Podhu Udamai (KEPU)
Indian Queer Media: Little Hearts | Kaathal the Core | Gaami | Mumbai Police | Kaadhal Enbadhu Podhu Udamai (KEPU)
Streaming on Sunnxt
In the Indian Queer Media series, we have previously discussed a coming home narrative in Little Hearts. Coming home is different from the Western model of coming out, where one reveals queerness as part of one’s identity. In the Indian context, coming home involves bringing home or coming home with one’s significant other(s) and introducing them to the family and seeking familial endorsement for the relationship. On the content of India, monogamous heterosexuality itself is not the norm culturally. Instead, it is endogamous unions where one marries within one’s caste as well as class, with the right amount of astrological compatibility (if it applies) that a heterosexual union finds itself readily endorsed. Therefore, it is not only queer folks who have to come home / bring home but also all broadly socially queer (non-normative) couples including inter-caste and inter-religious couples. Since the outcome of bringing home can’t be ascertained, it is normal for couples to seek out enablers: friends, siblings, cool elders, etc., to be there for them and to help them negotiate.
youtube
That’s the backdrop of the movie. The main narrative showcases the events of the day when Sam brings home Nandhini, her girlfriend, for lunch with Sam’s mother Lakshmi. The home turf in this case is enlightened enough to entertain the idea in the first place, Sam’s mother refuses to learn anything about her daughter’s beloved who is assumed to a man, robbing Sam off the chance to reveal much. By holding off the reveal until the lunch progresses, the movie explores the heterosexist assumptions and the shocking contrast in reaction when all the lies evaporate, making way for an ugly confrontation.
What could have been a simplistic plot of will Lakshmi accept her daughter’s beloved or not and if yes, how is complicated by the skeletons in the closet. As the conflict simmers, it’s time for airing of a lot of dirty laundry that hides underneath the seemingly amicable divorce that separated Sam’s parents.
youtube
The most tender and adorable part of the movie is the couple themselves and their romance - their love story starting from a serendipitous encounter, Sam’s sneaky pursuit that mirrors that of many a hero in Tamil movies and them wearing matching toe rings. I wonder why they wear the toe-ring on the middle toe instead of the one next to the thumb toe. The answer I assume lies in the darkness of Nandhini’s past marriage. [Many married Hindu women wear matching toe-rings on 2nd toe that symbolize married status.]
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The movie is dramatic to an extent that some might find it off-putting. Also, Sam’s friend Ravindra is not a flawless ally, and his conversation with Sam’s father reveals a "not in my backyard" (pun intended) attitude. The movie does not end with unconditional acceptance from both parents; instead, it ends on conditionalities and a negotiation that is not the best outcome, yet is very hope-inspiring.
The movie slowly explores aspects of the queer relationship and associated social anxieties in a FAQ style conversation that does not assume its audience to be well-versed in matters relating to queer folks and their lifestyle. In a way, it becomes a go to resource for any one, especially Tamil folks, to sensitize those near and dear to them and to be a conversation starter for more complex exploration of queerness or a segway into discussion on rights of sexual minorities, as Tamil Nadu is poised to be one of the first states in India to achieve major leaps in queer rights including a respectable vocabulary and possibly legal recognition of families that are not just based in heterosexual unions through Deed of Familial Association.
Tumblr media
social justice pride flag - created by Moulee, in addition to the six colors of queer pride, social justice pride flag also has black representing the Self-Respect Movement, blue representing Ambedkarite movement and red representing left values.

MUN Stories!!! P1/?
So today (June 15) was my last day of Model United Nations :( it was very fun and way too much happened this UNESCO conference, our chair even told us that we were the most entertaining committee they ever had! So here’s a fun tale from that chaotic ahh room
So in the middle of our resolution session, one of the heads of MUN who i’ll call Omar stormed in class and shouted “CRISIS!” So a crisis in MUN is a random scenario related to our current agenda that can happen any time and you and other countries have to raise your placards and speak about the situation on spot. Yk what was the scenario?
The scenario was that MR BEAST VISITED EGYPT FOR HIS 45TH BIRTHDAY (he’s not even 45 he’s 27 💔), USED EXPLOSIVE FIREWORKS AND EXPLODED PART OF THE PYRAMID OF GIZA… (for context our agenda was “Addressing rampant illegal sales and trafficking of historical artefacts and monuments”.) I HAD TO RESTRAIN MYSELF FROM WHEEZINGGGG, im not done yet tho, EGYPT WAS BLAMING USA IN THE SCENARIO AND THE DELEGATE OF USA GAVE THIS 4000 HOUR LONG SPEECH ON HOW HE’S GONNA DEFEND HIS COUNTRY IN EVERY SITUATION AND HOW USA IS TOO GOOD TO EXPLODE MONUMENTS LMAOOO
So 24 hours (a few minutes irl) after Egypt blamed USA, Australia reported to the UN Council that they saw limestone tablets from the pyramid on the black market and they traced the ip address and found it in Mumbai, India 💀
and then the last update is just Trump hating on UNESCO 😭🙏
It gets worse, Omar came back with another head who was playing the American national anthem behind him and Omar started roleplaying as fucking TRUMP and saying that Mr Beast was not his responsibility 😭 i (delegate of Canada) argued with him for so long until he said “Oh forget it, im too important to be here arguing, UNESCO is CORRUPT!” and stormed out 💀 everyone shouted “GET OUT” and “GOOD RIDDANCE” in character 🤣🤣
Oh ya that reminds me u wanna know the results of the crisis?? .
.
.
FAIL:
Egypt begins to plan for COLD WAR against US and India
USA's plan to destroy UNESCO is a success causing a disruption through out the world
MR BEAST GETS BANNED AROUND THE WORLD!!!
The only reason we failed is because our Chair said that we could make any solution and people started putting absolutely ridiculous amendments…
Someone wrote “Put meat on Mr Beast and leave him for the dogs” 😭

Why are global funds flocking to Indian stock market amid Trump’s tariff tantrum?
The NSE Nifty 50 Index surged to its highest level since October this week, fueled by optimism that India could be among the first to strike a deal with the US following upbeat comments by Trump.
Tumblr media
Global funds are pouring money back into India, driving billion-dollar corporate financing deals and sending stocks prices to near a seven-month high, as investors bet that Asia’s third-largest economy can emerge as a winner in President Donald Trump’s trade war.
The NSE Nifty 50 Index surged to its highest level since October this week, fueled by optimism that India could be among the first to strike a deal with the US following upbeat comments by Trump. Corporate India has seized the momentum: Shapoorji Pallonji Group secured a $3.4 billion private credit deal, and Reliance Industries Ltd. locked in a $2.98 billion-equivalent loan, underscoring the rising appeal of the nation’s corporate debt to global investors.
What makes global funds bullish on Indian stock market?
Behind this renewed enthusiasm lies a mix of favorable macroeconomic forces. Policymakers in New Delhi are targeting what they see as a once-in-a-generation chance to integrate the country more deeply into global supply chains. Meanwhile, in Mumbai, the Reserve Bank of India’s dovish stance is also supporting the bullish mood — bond yields are trading at their lowest levels in over three years.
“India can be a big winner of Trump 2.0 if it plays its cards right,” said Trinh Nguyen, senior economist at Natixis in Hong Kong. “India does offer both high yield in bonds and decent return on capital for equity investors.”
The shift in sentiment has been rapid among global fund managers, including those from Franklin Templeton and Federated Hermes. Local shares emerged as the most favoured bet among Asian funds managers investing in the region, according to a BofA Securities’ recent survey.
After selling more than $25 billion of Indian shares between October and February, investors plowed more than $2.5 billion in this quarter despite the trade war-induced volatility and the India-Pakistan clashes. The Nifty gauge was near a multi-month low on April 7 as global stocks recoiled, but is now within 5% of its September record high.
India: A safe bet amid global uncertainty
Investors are being drawn to India as a relatively safe bet during this period of global trade uncertainty, thanks to the country’s more inward-looking economy. Also, since India faces much lower US tariffs versus levies on Chinese goods, it’s seen as a viable workaround for companies like Apple Inc.
“Amid global trade uncertainties, India’s large domestic market, ascending middle class, and prospects of a trade deal with the US will help spur global investors’ interest in Indian credit,” said Wei Liang Chang, macro strategist at DBS Group Holdings Ltd.
Of course, the outlook isn’t risk-free. The unexpected flare-up in hostilities with Pakistan served as a reminder of the geopolitical risks that could complicate Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s infrastructure ambitions, which are driving demand for foreign capital across sectors ranging from solar power to roads.
Still, for now, investors remain focused on India’s improving economic outlook.
“The key assumption is for some agreement on a trade deal between the US and India, coupled with good external and internal macro stability,” wrote Michael Wan, a senior currency analyst at MUFG Bank in a note
“Investments in the securities market are subject to market risks.”
There is significant uncertainty in the share market, but you can reduce this uncertainty by using profit-making shares with the help of Intensity Research services. We also enhance the benchmark model by incorporating various combinations of other uncertainty measures and economic indicators.

Mike Denness was born 1st December 1940, Bellshill, North Lanarkshire.
Denness is the only Scottish born person to have captained the full England cricket team, I would like to point out the two famous cricketers who captained England are sometimes classified as Scots, Douglas Jardine and Tony Greig both had Scottish parents, but Jardine was born in Mumbai and Greig in South Africa.
He was born in Bellshill, but the family moved to Ayr when he was young. With the Denness home situated adjacent to Ayr Cricket Club’s Cambusdoon ground, the young Mike gravitated towards that game.
He was not solely a cricketer. At Ayr Academy, he was a member of the legendary unbeaten rugby XV which included two other future national captains: Ian Ure, who captained the Scotland team in a non-cap international against Israel during the 1967 world tour, and Ian “Mighty Mouse” McLauchlan, who captained Scotland on a record number of occasions.
While he was a good enough rugby player to go straight into the Ayr RFC 1st XV on leaving school, he was a far better cricketer, winning his first Scotland cricket cap when still at Ayr Academy. His promise attracted the attention of Kent, where he made his debut in 1962, recommended to the county by another Scot to have played for them, Jimmy Allen, then a team mate at Ayr. He played more than 700 first-class matches and List A matches over his 22-year first-class career. He was a right-handed bat, either an opener or going in first wicket down.
Few contemporary batsmen were more stylish than Mike Denness at his peak, in the late 1960s and early 1970s. Tallish and slim, well-balanced, immaculately dressed on and off the field, possessed of a fine array of strokes and an excellent cover fieldsman to boot, Denness looked a model cricketer in every way. It was his misfortune that when those qualities won him the England captaincy, after Ray Illingworth's dismissal, he lacked the support of one of the players on whom he was most dependent.
Geoff Boycott, who made no secret of how acutely he coveted the captaincy himself, played only the first six of Denness's 19 Tests as captain, which fatally holed England's prospects against Dennis Lillee and Jeff Thomson in Australia in 1974-75.
Deposed when Australia won the first Test of 1975 at Edgbaston, Denness took his medicine with typical graciousness. He later became an ICC match referee but, at Port Elizabeth in 2001-02, his decision to sanction six Indian players, including Sachin Tendulkar, caused such a furore that the Indian and South African boards barred Denness from officiating in the next match, at Centurion. The ICC responded by withdrawing Test status from the game.
Mike Denness died in April 2013 after a battle with cancer during his final days as president of Kent.

There have been more than 8 million illegal entries into the United States since Joe Biden was elected president. He appointed Alejandro Mayorkas as Secretary of Homeland Security, whose apparent prime directive was to destroy the southern border.
That task is precisely what Mayorkas has now accomplished. The result is that the border is neither “porous” nor “problematic,” but nonexistent, kaput, vanished—and by design.
In one of the most surreal experiences in the history of the United States, each night Americans see video clips of thousands of foreign nationals crossing the border en masse with complete impunity—as if the entire corpus of federal immigration law has been dynamited.
But by whom? And why?
AD
As millions of citizens watch this travesty, they hear only from Mayorkas, Biden, and his Pravda megaphone, Karin Jean-Pierre, that the border is “secure”—a Baghdad Bob narrative that they know that we know is an utter lie.
Surely, this deliberate effort to destroy an entire border, to invite in millions of unchecked illegal aliens, and to violate oaths to execute faithfully the laws of the land are impeachable offenses for both Biden and Mayorkas. If not, what are?
Stranger still, Americans have no real idea why these revolutionaries are destroying our border.
Are they nineteenth-century anarchists who want to undermine the United States itself? Are they cynical “Demography is Destiny” and “The New Democratic Majority” leftists who need new dependent Democrat constituents to find votes for agendas that most Americans reject?
Do they want to create billions of dollars in new entitlements and subsidies to grow government, hike taxes, and make the upper middle class pay, as Biden puts it, “their fair share?”
Whatever the cause of this nihilism, there are at least 10 ways their open border is insidiously destroying the United States.
Legal immigration
Does legal immigration still exist? Are we still requiring those who would enter the U.S. legally to provide required documents, undergo audits, and complete background checks?
Is not the current policy de facto punishing those who follow the law by tying them up in bureaucratic red tape for years as we reward unlawful behavior by greenlighting amnesties for lawbreakers?
Is the Biden administration’s policy designed to deflect those from South Korea with MDs, or from Mumbai with PhDs, or from Taiwan with MBAs, by putting their applications on a slow, second-track pathway? Is DEI at work in the sense that America does not want here the accomplished who earned degrees and possess vital skills, as if they are thereby condemned as “privileged?”
Does Biden realize that his legacy of inviting in “surging” millions, in contradiction of the law, will soon erode all support for immigration, legal or otherwise?
Lawless US
Does the utter lawlessness at the border contribute to the general coarseness and current mockery of the rule of law in general—an epidemic that plagues our cities with homelessness, smash-and-grabs, car-jackings, and random assaults?
Is the rationale that if you can walk freely past border security guards, who cares whether you ignore a summons, throw away a traffic ticket, or skip reporting some income?
Dependency
If the first thing a foreign national does is to violate the law by crossing the border without permission, and the second is to reside illegally in the US, and the third is to apply for some sort of food, housing, medical, legal, or educational subsidy, then is that really the type of new resident we desire?
Apparently, what the United States does not want is the immigration model of old, one in which immigrants applied legally, came here lawfully through authorized ports of entry, and were self-supporting upon arrival.
In other words, it may be hard to shake from Biden’s likely 10 million illegal aliens their initial assumption that, 1) in America, the laws do not apply to them and, 2) their new naïve or guilt-ridden hosts, not themselves, are responsible for their welfare.
Cui Bono?
We suspect the Left and employers welcome illegal immigrants; the more en masse and without audit, the better.
But how do millions simply leave their homes, cross international borders, and get waved on to El Norte? What is the mentality of Mexico that facilitates this mass exodus northward from its neighbors and from itself?
Is Mexico a frenemy?
Do we even care that some $60 billion leaves the U.S. as remittances into Mexico, mostly by illegal residents here who are on state and local subsidies to free up their billions of dollars to support people inside Mexico that Mexico City has no intention of helping?
Is such a gargantuan cash outflow, then, Mexican socialist President Obrador’s cynical idea of payback for supposed historical Yanqui sins? Does he think a new, huge expatriate community will continue to lobby for Mexico to do what it pleases on our side of the border? Does illegal immigration warp U.S. foreign policy itself?
Cartels
Does anyone worry that among the millions moving northward are hundreds of Mexican cartel functionaries loaded with tens of thousands of pounds of dangerous drugs, fentanyl most prominently?
Do we even care that the U.S. is enriching the cartels through its tolerance of drug importation and alien smuggling? With open borders, are we not abetting the annual 100,000 or so deaths of Americans through overdoses, often by the counterfeiting of fentanyl to resemble less toxic illicit drugs and prescription tranquilizers, sedatives, and painkillers?
Is there any other enemy in the world—Russia, China, or Iran—that has helped kill more Americans than the cartels, along with the culpable Mexican government that deflects cartel criminality and violence northward?
Trashing Citizens
Illegal immigration is insidiously diminishing citizenship by equating illegal aliens with, if not making them preferable to, American citizens. Is there anything an illegal alien cannot do in Biden’s America—work in a campaign, vote in some elections, serve in the military, receive government subsidies? Crisscross international borders without a passport?
To put it another way, why did we expel 8,400 US military personnel for the “crime” of passing on the required but experimental mRNA vaccinations (most of the discharged had natural immunity from prior COVID infections), while we let in millions of foreigners without worrying whether any have been vaccinated for anything, much less have had COVID tests?
Why are we forcing every American to recalibrate, at great expense, their identification to a “Real ID” to ensure security within our airline industry while putting tens of thousands of illegal aliens, without any documents, on flights throughout the country?
Does the Biden administration policy translate into something like, ‘We know and therefore don’t trust Americans, so we must apply airline boarding standards to them that we certainly do not need with more reliable and trustworthy illegal and unaudited aliens?’
Why, in bankrupt cities like New York, Chicago, or Los Angeles, where social services are overwhelmed with thousands of needy citizens, are we imploding such facilities with influxes of illegal aliens?
Do we prefer the latter to the former? Does the Biden administration’s message again read something like, ‘We care more about the health status of those south of the border than our own citizen poor in our own inner cities, so please surge on up?’
Who Pays?
At $34 trillion in debt, and with budget deficits normalizing at near $2 trillion a year, where does America find the hundreds of billions, if not eventually trillions of dollars, to welcome in millions of the unaudited—all in need of immediate no-questions-asked entitlements, and for some years on end?
Is California the model, where currently an estimated half of all illegal aliens reside and 27 percent of the resident population was not born in the U.S.?
California, while experiencing hundreds of thousands of new illegal entries and a $70 billion annual budget deficit, just extended free health care services to non-citizens who entered unlawfully. More than half of the state’s births are already paid for through Med-Cal. One-third of Americans living on assistance live in California. A fifth of the population struggles below the poverty line while the state runs up a $70 billion annual deficit with the nation’s highest income taxes and gas taxes and among the highest sales taxes.
No wonder over a quarter-million upper-middle-class taxpayers flee the state each year, unable to endure a 13.3% non-deductible, top state income tax rate on top of the 37% of their income that goes to the IRS.
No wonder there is a catastrophic current 25% drop in California income tax revenues when a single 1% of households pays 50% of all state income taxes—and is stampeding out of state. Is Governor Newsom federalizing California, or spreading the idea that far too privileged Americans owe the poor of the world massive subsidies as a reward for breaking their laws in coming here?
Ending Deterrence?
There are many reasons why foreign thugs are testing the United States—Putin in Ukraine, the Chinese with a spy balloon over our native soil, Hamas by murdering Israelis, Iran’s satellites by rocketing our military installations and ships abroad.
No doubt our woke, manpower-short military that fled from Kabul, leaving a multibillion-dollar trove of weapons, has lost the ability to deter opportunistic belligerents.
The Biden administration’s obsequious courting of Iran, contextualizing Chinese aggression, and announcing our reaction to a Russian invasion of Ukraine would hinge on whether it was “minor” have all eroded deterrence. Now, in circular fashion, President Obrador no longer fears any reaction to millions from his country swarming into the United States, as he had in the past when Trump pressured him to control his side of the border. That he helped to blow up the border with impunity also, in turn, reminds aggressors abroad that a nation too afraid to protect its own sovereignty can hardly defend that of its allies.
The DEI Narrative
We, the hosts, no longer believe in the melting pot. Instead, cultural Marxists divide America into the automatically victimized, by nature of their nonwhite status, versus the victimizers defined by whatever “white” is conveniently classified at the moment.
Class, history, and individual merit matter not so much in this 24/7 effort to reduce everyone to either oppressed or oppressor.
Under this racist binary, 99 percent of illegal aliens—who will be instantly categorized as the so-called nonwhite—will enter the U.S. with innate claims against the majority. Thus, they will become instantly eligible for everything from affirmative action preferences in hiring and admissions (the Supreme Court ruling will be a minor inconvenience for the Left, in the manner of the easily ignored California Prop 209) to race-based targeted equity programs and subsidies.
And the message we send to the illegal immigrant? Certainly not unity, integration, and assimilation. Instead, we emphasize ethnic, racial, religious, and linguistic differences and fuel such divides. Such separatism pays cultural, social, and economic dividends in such a way that assimilation and integration earn rebuke, if not ridicule.
Cruel Irony?
The woke Left defines America as incurably racist. So how could the nonwhite in the millions possibly flee their home countries, where they compose a majority of the population, only to seek out the one country in the world where they are told toxic “white privilege” is unsurpassed?
Did the millions swarming the Rio Grande not listen to the horror stories of Ilhan Omar or Rashida Tlaib? Do they not read the warnings of systemic this and that from Professor Kendi? Have they been briefed on endemic something by Ta-Nehisi Coates? Are they unaware of the messaging from BLM and Antifa? Were they not warned by President Obrador of the Inferno waiting ahead to the north?
None of the millions apparently wished to be diverted to a quite diverse India, or China, a land of mandated equity, or the inclusionary lands of the homogenously Islamic Middle East.
If the amorality of illegal immigration were not so deleterious to Americans, its absurdity would be laughable.
Tumblr media
The fundamental changes being made to America's civilization and culture are irreversible. There is no going back. Our grandchildren will spit on our graves when they realize our politicians sacrificed THEIR prosperity for a few very questionable political points. And they did it with NO mandate from the people. No one ever sat with their coffee in the morning thinking "Gosh, I wish we had a few more hundreds of thousands of Mexicans, Haitians, and Guatemalans."
