thank you! so (all headcanons) i think mothpool is a) real and b) reciprocated, regardless, but the extent to which the characters realise and actively act on it, and when if so, can vary to me depending what im feeling and how it fits into things.

by "my leafpool interpretation" i assume you mean "leafpool's thing with crowfeather is comphet actually," headcanon, which i definitely didn't coin but i do go by LOL. the way mothpool fits into that i think is that mothwing and leafpool were very close but not officially together when they were younger, but drift apart to some extent around the tail end of tnp (i cant remember the exact timeline enough to pick out a specific reasoning but let's say they're just spending a lot of time apart when the clans are first settling in at the lake and maybe something with hawkfrost is happening at this time that leads to mothwing isolating herself more) and that sudden absence of closeness is part of what leads to leafpool feeling so lonely, unloved, and resentful towards the restrictions of her job, even if she can't quite place why, and that's what leads to her imprinting on crowfeather as an escape route. and it doesn't work out.

sometime later on, leafpool would then reflect on how she felt about mothwing when she was younger and go "ohhh. huh." i think in the wake of hawkfrost's death and leafpool's pregnancy they'd both be seeking comfort and trust in somebody else, especially someone outside of their clan, and they reconnect at some point and rekindle their relationship. i'm not sure if they're officially dating, at least for a long time, but either way they're close enough by the end that leafpool's death completely sweeps the ground out from under mothwing's feet and is the catalyst that forces her to change her relationship with starclan from pointed ignorance/denial to reluctant skepticism because she can no longer view starclan as this untrustworthy unfeeling monolith (even if, in some way, they are) because now leafpool is personally somewhere in that mix and she wants to see her and talk to her again whatever that takes.
