There is so much to be thankful for
Today/Tonight, I'll take time appreciating the people around me, the things that I do have and the things that makes me whole.
Four months on and I am still thankful that at one point in my life, one of my ultimate dreams has unfolded right before my very eyes. Fox Sports Asia/Philippines believing in what I can do is massive. I don't believe in the word "forever" because that is so damn overrated but yes, I will try and use that word now - because I can't think of a better word than that when I mean saying that I am forever grateful to all the editors and big bosses that I have worked with the past four months. It's been a hell of a ride!
Thank you Kapil, our Singapore head for the trust which to be honest, I still think is surreal. If only fairy godfathers do exist, you're that one. Even if most of the time, you'd tell me that you don't wanna talk to me because I talk too much, I appreciate the friendship that the love for sports has brought. Please schedule your Manila trip real quick and I will be more than willing to be your tour guide sans the attempt to eat balut, okay? That is scary.
Thank you, Sir Raymond Olgado, because it is you who opened the opportunity for me to be where I am now. Had it not for your email response, I may still be a writer wannabe, dreaming that someday I may be allowed to become an investigative journalist. I will always look at you as the fairy godfather's right-hand man in helping me make my dream come true a reality. Above all, thank you for paving the way for my comeback run - you don't have an idea how much it meant for me to be considered as the team's representative in the NatGeo Run. It was fun to do that story/VLOG and without you and Sir James making effort to get the free kit for me, I would not have done that.
Thank you, Sir Earl Averilla, for letting me experience over the top football events either from the comfort of the media tribune or in venues that I can only wish being at. You opened the door for me to consider the names I was once just looking up to and dreaming they would recognise me not as a fan but as their colleague. It is you who paved way for me to hand shake with the likes of the media officers of each of the PFL Teams, know some of the big names in PH football scene, interact with Bob Guerrero for football fun facts and other sports stuff, be taught by Ivan Gayares how to determine who the man of the match is, be recognised by Mike Limpag, Cesca Litton and Martin Steuble for my fearless, bold and unconventional way of writing. Thank you for being so ever patient in explaining football jargons and for correcting my lapses in live match reporting.
Thank you, Sir Rey Joble, for the confidence in giving me stories that I can only imagine writing. Thank you for allowing me to pay tribute to where I come from - Colegio de San Juan de Letran, through basketball related articles which are somehow, out of my personal experience as a very proud Letranista. I am most grateful for your reminders that I should not sound so biased for each Letran-related article since I admit having the tendency to do that because I love my Alma Mater that much. Thank you for taking time checking out on me once in a while, talking about things that strays away from sports but more of life in general. I appreciate the fatherly advises you give, it is so genuine of you to do that.
Thank you, Eros, Kriel, Jonas and the rest of Fox Sports Philippines team for all the help you have extended to me the past four months. I hope you guys won't hesitate to keep doing the same in the coming months.
Thank you, Daniel, our Lead Digital Ambassador for all of our collab works which was fun, especially the world cup stuff because it is there that I have realised I can somehow be a comedian by poking fun at myself for all of my errors. Come up here in Manila, soon and let's scour the streets for more vox pops.
To all those have entrusted me their stories; massive thanks! Apologies that some have yet to be found online but sooner or later, I am sure it will be up. I will always stand loud and proud to say I am honoured for each interview I had made:
Coach Thomas Dooley; Coach Chris Greatwich; Kevin Ingreso; Mike and Manuel Ott; Pat Deyto; Phil & James Younghusband; Jeff Christiaens; Patrick Reichelt; Amani Aguinaldo; Jerry Barbaso; Eduard Sacapaño; Iain Ramsay; Michael Falkesgaard; Simone Rota; Dennis Villanueva; OJ Porteria; Anton del Rosario; Daisuke Sato and Neil Etheridge for Football
Coach Andrea Arcega; Deanne Moncada and Natassha Po for Spartan Racing
Coach Seannah Swift; Larry Ronquillo; Eika Barcelona; Capt. Josepheus Lopez and Maj. Ramil Ranario for Running/Multisports
Atty. Percival Flores; Sir Ed Felix; Jonathan Aldave and the whole Pasay Voyagers team - from Head Coach Cholo Martin, the Assistant Coaches, Players - my fellow Letranite JP Belencion and his wife Nikki for helping me get training details, Managers Sir Marc and Sir Paul, down to the very kind owners Sir Miki and Ms. Le-Anne Rubiano for Basketball
Fr. Soysi Cellan for Cycling.
Thank you to all of you for taking time out of your schedules to spare me a minute, hour and a day in order to give my story, be it video or an article some substance.
To the athletes whom I have written about in my other feature articles, wherein some are those I have grown up rooting for in athletic meets, it also is an honour that I was given the chance to write about all of you and how you all made efforts in shaping Philippine sports. Rest assured that my colleagues and I will never get tired of recognising all of your efforts for the pride and glory of the flag and its people.
Thank you, Coach Marielle Benitez; Martin Steuble; Mary Joy Tabal and Claire Adorna, not only for the Instagram follow back but mostly for recognising my craft. You all made me feel that I am doing my job right no matter how much I struggle in making myself believe that I did a good one. I find inspiration and motivation to keep doing what I am doing from all the good words you have said about me. For that and for sharing my articles, thank you. I hope I could be given the chance to personally thank you for such appreciation.
For the record, it still is on my bucketlist to interview Stephan Schröck and Omid David Nazari - biased aside, of course, as these two remains my faves in spite me being missing in action from the football scene for the past month. It was a personal choice as I wanted to prove my versatility and I want to think I am living up to that goal.
How can I ever forget the members of Ultras Filipinas whom I have built awesome friendship with? Kent Garcia and David Abella, you two, among the others are the ones I get to talk to often, making me understand the ultras culture more. Thank you for trusting me with your rants and raves each time you the two of you drops a sentence or two on my Messenger. Even in things beyond football, you showed genuine friendship to me to which I am grateful.
To the people I have met in the football pitch from 2011 to present, you are too many to mention but I am as grateful as ever to have found friends in you. Allow me to stand one name out among the rest - Charles Danforth Cusi Pettys, who, in spite the distance had been so helpful. If it wasn't for his story that I have written and uploaded on my other blog, Xy-Zha of Fox Sports wouldn't have surfaced.
To my professors in Letran who taught me what I know now, my first mentor - Jane Kingsu-Cheng, my Senate internship boss - Sir Sammy Santos, my friends, my family and everyone else in between who has shown me genuine love and support, I am grateful to infinity and beyond.
To Iyah Estacio, who recently proved me that true friends would be there in times you least expect. You've done a massive favour which I am eternally grateful.
To my best friend, Joanna Marie Malayaon, you are my epitome of infinity and beyond. I may not be opening up some things to you but that's because I know you know that I will be fine. I can do this, love! We've known each other that long for you to know that if I choose not to talk about something that hurts, it is because I can go through it on my own, regardless of how long it will take. I love you, I miss you, please be home soon!
In four months being a Digital Ambassador, I've been called awesome and crazy, I've been appreciated as much as I've been hated. Worst, been called a psycho even. But hey, this psycho did so much in four months, eh? This psycho did well enough to leave a legacy once I decide to leave Fox Sports.
It has been a good ride the past four months, I've had extreme happiness and meltdowns, even questionned myself why am I here for - but each time I do so, there will always be something to remind me of my purpose. That somehow, I do have a voice and a power to create or help create difference. For that and above all, for the talent that I am blessed with, I will be grateful and forever thankful to God and give him back all the glory. My success meant nothing if I don't know how to give thanks and give back.
If I may take time to do so, I would confess a bit - I have written this with a broken heart. I just lost that someone who I thought was the love of my life, someone who I thought was the real answer to the seven-year wait but I will choose not to divulge anything beyond that to protect how I feel, what he might feel, and to respect the person whom I still love very much inspite and despite this painful chapter in my existence. I will choose to remember happy memories no matter how few and short-lived it was.
From here on, there'll be less social media activity for me except when I work for Fox Sports coz it is a given that I am going to flood. I will be fine but I will opt to healing, to pick myself up from yet another setback and focus on my job.
Perhaps I would also use up my silence to find reasons to make waking up every morning worth it, and find ways on how to believe that I deserve love again because since this afternoon, I don't think I do have those.
🙂

Media captionDrivers and passengers react to news that Uber's licence in London will be revoked
Uber will not be issued a new private hire licence, Transport for London (TfL) has said.
TfL concluded the ride-hailing app firm was not fit and proper to hold a London private hire operator licence.
It said it took the decision on the grounds of "public safety and security implications".
Confirming it would appeal against the decision, Uber said it showed the world "far from being open, London is closed to innovative companies".
TfL's concerns include Uber's approach to carrying out background checks on drivers and reporting serious criminal offences.
What does the ruling mean?
Seven things Londoners will miss if Uber goes
Now what next for Uberisation?
Your views: Uber London loses licence
Uber's current licence is due to run until 30 September.
It has 21 days to appeal against TfL's decision and can continue to operate while any appeals are ongoing.
Some 3.5 million passengers and 40,000 drivers use the Uber app in London.
Mayor of London Sadiq Khan said: "I fully support TfL's decision - it would be wrong if TfL continued to license Uber if there is any way that this could pose a threat to Londoners' safety and security."

Image caption Taxi drivers have been campaigning against Uber, such as engaging in this "go slow" protest in 2014
Fred Jones, head of cities for Uber across the UK and Ireland, told the BBC Uber drivers had to pass the same safety checks as black cab and mini cab drivers in London.
There had been growing speculation that the app could be banned from London.
Opponents of the firm claim it causes gridlocked roads and does not do enough to regulate its drivers.
But one driver with Uber in London said: "I don't think it is a fair decision. Uber offers a flexible schedule, and a weekly income."
Uber controversies
Chief executive Travis Kalanick, who helped found the company in 2009, resigned in July following a series of scandals and criticism of his management style
In June, 20 staff were sacked after a law firm investigated specific complaints made to the company about sexual harassment, bullying, and retaliation for reporting problems
At the start of 2017, the firm paid £16.2m ($20m) in the US to settle allegations it gave false promises to drivers over how much they would earn
In October 2016 Uber lost a landmark employment tribunal in the UK which ruled drivers should be classed as workers rather than being self-employed
A few months later Uber announced it would offer English courses, financial advice and introduce an appeals panel for its UK workers after facing criticism over lack of support and rights for its drivers
In 2015 the New Delhi government banned app-based taxi companies after an Uber driver raped a passenger in his vehicle
Uber stopped operating in Austin, Texas, when it was told drivers would have to have fingerprint background checks, but it reinstated its services after the requirement was ended

Image caption Some 3.5 million passengers and 40,000 drivers use the Uber app in London
Uber's general manager in London Tom Elvidge said: "By wanting to ban our app from the capital, Transport for London and the mayor have caved in to a small number of people who want to restrict consumer choice.
"If this decision stands, it will put more than 40,000 licensed drivers out of work and deprive Londoners of a convenient and affordable form of transport.
"To defend the livelihoods of all those drivers, and the consumer choice of millions of Londoners who use our app, we intend to immediately challenge this in the courts."
He said Uber operated in more than 600 cities around the world, including more than 40 towns and cities in the UK.
Analysis: From BBC technology correspondent Rory Cellan-Jones
Throughout its short, tempestuous life, Uber has clashed with regulators around the world - and more often than not it has come out on top.
Its tactic has often been to arrive in a city, break a few rules, and then apologise when it's rapped over the knuckles. Some regulators have backed down, others have run the company out of town.
In London, despite protests from angry taxi drivers, the company has had a relatively easy ride until now.
But a wave of bad publicity about its corporate culture, its lax attitude to checks on its drivers and its treatment of this freelance army seems to have spurred TfL into action.
Make no mistake, Uber will use every legal avenue to fight this ban. It will argue that consumers, in the shape of the millions of mainly young Londoners who rely on its service, will be seriously let down if it can no longer operate.
But the courts will have to balance that with the serious concerns about public safety raised by TfL.

On social media, a fierce debate has broken out over the decision.
An online petition launched by Uber urging Sadiq Khan to reverse the decision to strip its London licence has been signed by tens of thousands of people in the space of a few hours.
Twitter user @Gabbysalaza_ said that she was "annoyed" at the decision as Uber allowed to her to get out of "uncomfy" situations if out at night.

General secretary of the Licensed Taxi Drivers' Association Steve McNamara said it was the "right call" not to re-license Uber in London.
"This immoral company has no place on London's street," he said.
Across the world, Uber has been pushed out or denied access by local licensing laws.
Legislators in Darwin, in Australia's Northern Territory, are debating whether to allow Uber to return after a raft of reforms designed to open up the ride-sharing market were announced.
Uber is currently fighting a test case in Denmark after four if its drivers were found to be in violation of the country's laws requiring taxi meters.
'Devastating blow'
David Leam, of London First which campaigns for business in the capital, said London needed to be open to new ideas, business and services.
He said: "This will be seen as a Luddite decision by millions of Londoners and international visitors who use Uber, and will also hit London's reputation as a global tech hub."
James Farrar, chairman of the Independent Workers' Union of Great Britain's United Private Hire Drivers branch, said it was a "devastating blow" for the drivers who now face losing their jobs.
"To strip Uber of its licence after five years of laissez-faire regulation is a testament to a systemic failure at TfL," he said.

Uber’s general manager in London Tom Elvidge said: “By wanting to ban our app from the capital, Transport for London and the mayor have caved in to a small number of people who want to restrict consumer choice.
“If this decision stands, it will put more than 40,000 licensed drivers out of work and deprive Londoners of a convenient and affordable form of transport.
“To defend the livelihoods of all those drivers, and the consumer choice of millions of Londoners who use our app, we intend to immediately challenge this in the courts.”
He said Uber operated in more than 600 cities around the world, including more than 40 towns and cities in the UK.
Analysis: From BBC technology correspondent Rory Cellan-Jones
Throughout its short, tempestuous life, Uber has clashed with regulators around the world – and more often than not it has come out on top.
Its tactic has often been to arrive in a city, break a few rules, and then apologise when it’s rapped over the knuckles.

General secretary of the Licensed Taxi Drivers’ Association Steve McNamara said it was the “right call” not to re-license Uber in London.
“This immoral company has no place on London’s street,” he said.
Across the world, Uber has been pushed out or denied access by local licensing laws.
Legislators in Darwin, in Australia’s Northern Territory, are debating whether to allow Uber to return after a raft of reforms designed to open up the ride-sharing market were announced.
Uber is currently fighting a test case in Denmark after four if its drivers were found to be in violation of the country’s laws requiring taxi meters.
‘Devastating blow’
David Leam, of London First which campaigns for business in the capital, said London needed to be open to new ideas, business and services.
He said: “This will be seen as a Luddite decision by millions of Londoners and international visitors who use Uber, and will also hit London’s reputation as a global tech hub.”
James Farrar, chairman of the Independent Workers’ Union of Great Britain’s United Private Hire Drivers branch, said it was a “devastating blow” for the drivers who now face losing their jobs.
“To strip Uber of its licence after five years of laissez-faire regulation is a testament to a systemic failure at TfL,” he said.

New Post has been published on News Twitter
New Post has been published on http://www.news-twitter.com/2017/03/10/bbc-bt-strikes-deal-to-legally-separate-openreach-division-5/
BBC: BT strikes deal to legally separate Openreach division
Image copyright BT
BT has bowed to demands by the telecoms regulator Ofcom to legally separate Openreach, which runs the UK’s broadband infrastructure.
Ofcom said that Openreach will become a distinct company with its own staff, management and strategy “to serve all of its customers equally”.
It must consult with customers such as Sky and TalkTalk on major investments.
Ofcom boss Sharon White told BBC Radio 4’s Today programme that “we can now expect better service from Openreach”.
The regulator had threatened to force BT to legally separate Openreach.
However, Ofcom said on Friday that the company had agreed to all of the changes needed to address its competition concerns.
“As a result, Ofcom will no longer need to impose these changes through regulation. The reforms have been designed to begin this year.”
Media captionSharon White tells Today that Openreach will be legally separate from BT
BT’s rivals such as Sky, TalkTalk and Vodafone, which use Openreach’s network to offer broadband to consumers, have long complained of high charges, poor service and failure to invest in the division.
Ms White called it a “significant day” for phone and broadband users and pledged to “carefully monitor” how the revamped Openreach performs.
Sky welcomed the announcement: “A more independent Openreach is a step towards delivering better service to customers and the investment that the UK needs. It’s important that today’s agreement is now implemented by BT in good faith and without delay.”
Dido Harding, chief executive of TalkTalk, said: “We hope this is the start of a new deal for Britain’s broadband customers, who will be keen to see a clear timetable from Openreach setting out when their services will improve.”
Vodafone said it is “an encouraging start”.
Culture Secretary Karen Bradley said: “Now we need to see this deal implemented, along with significant improvements to Openreach’s service standards, and increased investment by Openreach in the country’s digital infrastructure.”
Media captionGavin Patterson tells Today Openreach separation from BT will promote investment
BT chief executive Gavin Patterson said the deal, reached after two years of negotiations with Ofcom, meant Openreach would have its own board and make its own investment decisions. However, he admitted that BT would set the overall budget.
He told BBC Radio 4’s Today programme: “The BT board will set the annual budget. As the 100% shareholder, the owner of the company that’s not unreasonable.”
Analysis: Rory Cellan-Jones, BBC technology correspondent
It has been a lengthy, not to say tortuous, saga but now the battle over the future of BT – and the UK’s broadband infrastructure – appears to be over.
A legal separation of Openreach and BT may not satisfy those who feel the parent company should have been forced to sell the broadband division.
But even fierce critics such as Sky and TalkTalk appear to be accepting that this is a more realistic option. A forced sell-off could have meant a lengthy legal battle that would not have done anything to speed up the rollout of superfast broadband at a crucial time.
But will customers see any difference? The accusations had been that Openreach delivered a poor service, favoured BT over other suppliers and was pressured to deliver cash to fund the acquisition of expensive sports rights.
That last charge was always denied by BT – but it accepts that it needs to do better when it comes to serving customers.
Will an Openreach run by an independent board suddenly see an economic case for investing billions more in fast fibre broadband connections right into homes when BT did not? That seems doubtful.
The other question is whether BT’s shareholders will be happy to see a vital part of their company sail off on its own. They still own Openreach but have little control. Maybe they will end up feeling it would be better just to sell it off and say goodbye.
Under the agreement, Openreach chief executive Clive Selley will report to its chairman, Mike McTighe. However, the boss will still have to report to Mr Patterson on legal, fiduciary and regulatory issues.
BT’s chief executive can veto the appointment of Openreach’s boss, but only after notifying Ofcom.
Openreach’s 32,000 staff will transfer from BT to allow the new business to “develop its own distinct organisational culture”.
Image copyright PA
Mr Patterson said the agreement would end a “period of uncertainty” for staff. “We have listened to criticism of our business and as a result are willing to make fundamental changes to the way Openreach will work in the future,” he said.
He also admitted that Openreach’s service has “not been where it needed to be” and said the separation would improve the situation.
The BT logo will also be removed from Openreach’s branding.
Shares in BT jumped 4.3% to 344.2p in morning trading in London.
George Salmon at Hargreaves Lansdown said keeping Openreach as part of BT, but with its own board and brand, “should put to bed any lingering concerns investors may have had over this potentially disruptive issue”.

CES 2017: UK support to tech firms ‘an embarrassment’ – BBC News
Image copyright Getty Images
Image caption Gary Shapiro says he does not understand why UK ministers are not doing more to help start-ups at CES
The UK government’s lack of support for start-ups attending the CES tech show is a “source of embarrassment”, according to the event’s organiser.
Gary Shapiro compared the country unfavourably with France, the Netherlands and Israel.
The head of one British firm at the Las Vegas event said the criticism was well-founded.
But the UK’s Department for International Trade said it was providing “targeted support”.
CES is one of the tech calendar’s biggest fixtures and provides companies with a chance to meet and secure orders from retailers, as well as to gain publicity by showing their products to journalists and analysts.
Image copyright Getty Images
Image caption More than 3,800 companies are exhibiting at CES this year
About 177,000 people are expected to take part in this year’s show, which runs until Sunday.
‘Short-sighted’
There are nearly five times as many French companies attending this year’s CES as British ones.
Mr Shapiro said there had been an annual increase in numbers over the past few years thanks to Paris making greater effort to help its entrepreneurs.
“Now we’re starting to see other countries take notice,” the president of the Consumer Technology Association added.
“We’ve seen that the Netherlands and others going in there big time [this year].
“Britain’s been a little slow to the game honestly. We have a minister from Britain coming but there’s not a lot of activity that we’ve seen at CES.
“I think it’s a source of embarrassment.
“When I was in London recently, I raised it with one of the ministers, and they said: ‘Yeah, it’s amazing. I can get approval to go to [Texas festival] South by Southwest, but because it’s Las Vegas, for some reason it’s frowned upon.’
“And that’s a pretty short-sighted attitude.”
Bespoke help
CES charges a discounted rate for stands in its Eureka Park start-up zone.
At this year’s show, there are French, Ukrainian, Czech, Saudi Arabian, Dutch, Israeli, New Zealand and US stands organised by government-backed agencies to promote local talent.
But a spokeswoman for the UK’s Department for International Trade (DIT) said it thought it was more effective for UK attendees to base themselves elsewhere in product-themed areas.
Image copyright Matt Hancock
Image caption Matt Hancock will spend part of a day at the tech trade show
“The UK continues to be a world-leader in the tech and innovation industry, and events like CES can provide UK businesses with vital contacts to build their brand abroad,” she said.
“We want to help UK businesses make the most of trade and investment opportunities including in the US, through targeted support and bespoke business matching that better maximises their presence to win vital contracts abroad.”
The spokeswoman added that the minister for digital and culture, Matt Hancock, would meet British exhibitors when he stopped in for half a day before travelling on to meet music industry leaders in California.
Travel costs
But at least one UK start-up is dissatisfied.

Image caption The Fridgecam warns owners when food in their fridge needs to be replaced
Smarter Applications is launching a fridge webcam at CES that alerts owners to when food nears its expiry date.
“We’ve been invited to networking drinks from the Holland embassy and plenty of other European countries that have a presence there and support [their start-ups] by doing networking events,” said Isabella Lane, managing director of the firm.
“We don’t have anything of that ilk and there is no UK government base over at CES.
“In France they are supported financially to go to those events and we are not.”
By contrast, Bluemint Labs – a Grenoble-based start-up – praised the French government for the support it was receiving.
Media captionBluemint Labs will be promoting a sensor that lets smartphones be controlled with a wave of the hand
“The government provides the label La French Tech, which helps with branding,” said its marketing manager Pavithra Govindarajan.
“This label helps get more exposure and adoption among the big retailers in France.
“The regional governments also play their part.
“For the region Auvergne-Rhone-Alpes, the body Minalogic is supporting select start-ups by paying back some part of the travel and accommodation costs. It is also helping set up meetings with major brands, which otherwise would have been very tough.”
More than money
Ms Lane said Smarter Applications was spending about 40,000 on CES, and that budget covered a private meeting room but not a show floor stand.
Image copyright Smarter Applications
Image caption Isabella Lane says other European countries do more to support their start-ups
She acknowledged that there were grants available to the UK tech sector but added that they were difficult to qualify for.
“You have to fit very particular requirements, and as a hardware-software smart home start-up we didn’t quite meet them,” she explained.
But Mr Shapiro stressed he was not calling on the UK to subsidise its young companies’ CES appearances.
“Government support is just not funding, I want to make that very clear,” he explained.
“It’s political leadership. It’s showing up.
“It’s a matter of [attracting] attention. We’re having the prince of the Netherlands show up, for example.
“I don’t know why the UK is not responding, because there is a tremendous amount of innovation there.
“I think there’s a great opportunity for the UK, which is untapped.”

Analysis: Rory Cellan-Jones, Technology correspondent
Media captionThis is the 50th year anniversary of the CES show
There’s no doubt there are British firms represented at CES – even as I checked in for my flight to Las Vegas an enthusiastic group from Southampton University’s tech incubator pitched me their wares.
Later today, I’m meeting a young British solo entrepreneur who’s flown here with his own funds to promote what sounds like a very clever wireless earpods product.
But what seems lacking this year is much help from the British government for start-ups wanting to make the trip.
In previous years there had at least been a UK Trade & Investment stand.
Looking at the floor plans for the show I can see representatives from Israel, the Czech Republic and every corner of France – but it looks as though the Union Flag will not be flying.
You can guarantee however that British electronics retailers will be at the show in force, on the lookout for the hot products of 2017 – but they may have to look long and hard for anything home-grown.
