Hellbound review
★★★★☆
4 out of 5 stars cuz the ending made me cry and they killed off my fav character both of them
But Holy shit this show was so good although the main actor in the first half did horrible things he is an amazing actor hopefully once he gets over his addiction he can go back to acting in shows like this again but the plot was amazing i loved everything 'bout it, I couldn't stop talking about it for weeks I think it's a show alot of people can binge. I don't want to give away too much but the plot twists UGHHHH the plot twists honestly in my top 10 shows it's too good to not watch

if you're into horror, don't watch hellbound. it's not for you.
it's being marketed towards audiences who loved of us are dead or sweet home which... makes sense i guess given the netflix logo, multiple seasons, bingeworthy amount of episodes etc. but at it's essence it is such a Korean drama i think it would have done so much better on a national cable tv channel like jtbc or something.
western audiences are trashing so much on the second season especially but also the whole show in general bc they're so used to being spoon-fed answers. western media doesn't trust their audience to understand implicit ideas and concepts. stories that are more open-ended and push viewers to fill in gaps themselves instead of relying on the storytellers to justify everything are way too complex apparently. but mainly i think a lot of people don't understand how korean psychological thrillers work. it's not about the monsters. it's about the people.
hellbound, to me, since the first season has always been a character study more than anything. it's about love, life, death, and sacrifice. what these things mean to different people, and how they find meaning through them. the monsters are merely a plot device, how does the existence of them affect your understanding of the world around you? the world within yourself? does it change anything? would you have been the same in a world that wasn't hellbound?
korean fanatasy dramas tend to do this a lot, like in the golden spoon where it was never revealed who the old grandma selling these golden spoons was or where she even got them from, or even in rom-coms like lovely runner, where it's never explicitly stated why this random watch allows our main lead to time-travel. we make sense of it ourselves though - it was the character's motivations, their passions, their ambitions, their love - that made their ordinary worlds extraordinary. and that extraordinariness (?? is that even a word?) is depicted through symbols, like a spoon, or a watch, or even supernatural monsters that appear to steal your soul and send you to hell. but the story was never about the symbols, it's about the people affected by them, and how they sometimes end up influencing the symbols too.
hellbound is an excellent show that explores all these different themes while never removing the spotlight from individual people and their humanity. personally, i loved the first season, and the second season even more. the cast is incredible, the acting is superb, the cinematography is amazing, and the writing is very intentional and well thought out. i wish it was appreciated more bc it really doesn't deserve all of the negative reviews it's been getting.
#hellbound#hellbound 2#moon talks#its gonna become a cult classic or smth#its so so soooo good#its just. its called a Netflix show which ruins everything#from the producers to the audiences they have certain agendas and expectations#but i wish it was viewed more as a K-Drama kdrama bc avid kdrama viewers would really enjoy it i think#wheres that one posts abt there is a difference between media being objectively good/bad and you liking/not liking it etc.#bc yeah. exactly that. people are criticising this show for having plot holes#the show doesn't have plot holes. You arent using the critical thinking side of your brain smh

Hellbound (Season 2)

TV Shows/Dramas watched in 2024
Hellbound (Season 2, 2024, South Korea)
Director: Yeon Sang Ho
Writer: Yeon Sang Ho & Choi Gyu Seok (based on their own webtoon)
Mini-review:
I feel like I'm one of the few people who loved the first season of Hellbound. It used an original and terrifying concept to showcase a fascinating exploration of themes like religious fanaticism, sectarianism and media manipulation. And this second (and final?) season delivers the goods once again. Yeon Sang Ho continues to be a master director of action scenes, plus the performances he gets from this cast are simply superb. On top of that, the CGI is much better than it was in the first one; I'm glad they made an effort to improve on that. I'm sure many people will stay mad at the show for refusing to give clear answers until the very end, but I think that makes the viewer feel the same chaos as the characters. If this is really the end, I have to say I really enjoyed what this dark fantasy had to offer.

H Universe Awards 2024—Taking Over the Resident Grump (See the end)
These aren’t just awards; they’re reminders of how art can save lives, challenge perceptions, and bring beauty into our worlds.
Potential Lifesaver Award
🏆 Winner: Baby Reindeer (UK)
Care is not an invitation for possession. Self-hatred may get in the way of justice.
Raw. Unflinching. Devastating. Baby Reindeer doesn’t hold your hand—it grips your soul and refuses to let go. This Netflix original dives headfirst into the messy, painful realities of trauma and abuse. It’s a tough watch, but it just might change how you see the world.
Most Meaningful Character
🏆 Winner: Player 120 Cho Hyun-ju – Squid Game Season 2 (South Korea)
People are more than their circumstances.
Feminine yet fierce, tender but tough, Hyun-ju is a wake-up call to stop boxing people into stereotypes.
And her bond with Player 149 Jang Geum-ja? Absolute dynamite. This silver-haired grandma might not get gender identity, but her care for Hyun-ju speaks louder than any words. Together, they’re proof that humanity is messy, complicated, and full of surprises.
Most Thought-Provoking Series
🏆 Winner: Hell / Hellbound Season 2 (South Korea)
Human hubris isn’t about defying divine forces—it’s pretending to know what we don’t.
If Season 1 got characters questioning their beliefs, Season 2 left them spiraling. This supernatural K-horror goes beyond the shock factor to grapple with big questions about belief, morality, and the consequences of our assumptions.
Best Finale
🏆 Winner: Eternal Night Star River / Cringey Official English Title (Mainland China)
This finale hit us with the ultimate truth bomb: You can only love others fully when you love yourself first. (But Ziqi’s real problem? It’s not some conventional “demon” identity—it’s believing he is one.) Emotional, uplifting, and just the right amount of bittersweet.
Geekiest Series
🏆 Winner: Avatar: The Last Airbender (US)
Cultural depth? Check. Epic fight scenes? Double-check.
Avatar draws inspiration from Inuit and various Asian traditions, blending them into an action-packed adventure that’s as visually stunning as it is culturally rich. For fans of intricate world-building and diverse fighting styles, this series is a must-watch.
youtube
youtube
Best Aesthetics
🏆 Winner: Luxuriant Blossoms / Blossoms Shanghai (Mainland China and Hong Kong for cinematography)
Every frame of Blossoms Shanghai looks like it belongs in a film museum.
Wong Kar-wai’s signature style shines through, making this a feast for the eyes. And yes, the “director’s color-graded version” fixed those earlier hiccups, giving us the lush visuals we deserved.
youtube
Best Music
🏆 Winner: What Comes After Love (South Korea and Japan for soundtrack)
Each track is like a perfume note—delicate, layered, and unforgettable.
The music isn't just background noise; it’s an essential experience, taking you to new places with every note.
youtube
Notes and Reflections
Here’s the thing: there’s already a ton of online chatter about acting, directing, and writing. Why add to the noise? Awards in these areas just feel unnecessary—especially since acting, in particular, is so vulnerable to cultural differences. What’s more, assigning a “Best Drama” title is always subjective. Why should you impose your idea of what factors to include or exclude and how to weigh all the factors on everyone else?
On a personal level, Tibetan Sea Flower (or Adventure Behind The Bronze Door) is the drama that hit H hardest this year. Its breathtaking visuals, pulse-pounding directing, and sci-fi adventure kept H hooked. But let’s be honest—why should that matter to anyone else? Is it as thematically meaningful as some of the other dramas on this list? Probably not. Is its storytelling flawless? Not quite. The show repeats a certain trick, and when some big mysteries are revealed, it opts to tell rather than show.
For H, though, some of these choices make sense. Tibetan Sea Flower is part of the larger Lost Tomb franchise, and its place in this intricate, interconnected universe justifies a lot. It’s built for those of us who love Easter egg hunts and piecing together the big picture—something H finds thrilling. But is that enough for it to resonate universally? Not necessarily.
H's more level-headed pick for “Best Drama” would be any series recognized with the Potential Lifesaver Award—dramas that go beyond entertainment to deliver messages that genuinely matter. That's even if the drama conferred the honor were an artistic disaster. Is that something you can accept?
Finally, a word of caution: awards are often shaped by sampling errors. The dramas that get shortlisted—or even noticed—are frequently determined by marketing prowess and social media buzz, rather than their intrinsic quality or impact. Keep that in mind when appraising any list like this one.

GUNDAM: REQUIEM FOR VENGEANCE
youtube
youtube
DEVIL MAY CRY
We are locked and loaded, baby!
youtube
ARCANE

youtube
HELLBOUND
youtube
MAGIC THE GATHERING
È VIVA! ESISTE ANCORA!
Troppo impegnati a mungere Assassin's Creed a quanto pare...

Can’t believe they released season 2 of Hellbound and Nobody told me.
I usually don’t rock with fantasy but this show is so good at being driven by compelling characters.
Not to be an American to this k-drama, but Secretary Lee is Nancy Pelosi to me.
