This distinctive yellow dress 💛 with van dyke trim was likely designed for Anne Stallybrass’s portrayal of Anna Strauss in the 1972 production 𝑻𝒉𝒆 𝑺𝒕𝒓𝒂𝒖𝒔𝒔 𝑭𝒂𝒎𝒊𝒍𝒚. 🎶 However, it is possible that the piece originated with an earlier production.   The costume went on to be worn by Gabrielle Hamilton as Miss Matty Jenkyns in the 1972 adaptation of 𝑪𝒓𝒂𝒏𝒇𝒐𝒓𝒅 🏘 and later by Adrienne Burgess as Catherine Hogarth Dickens in the 1976 series 𝑫𝒊𝒄𝒌𝒆𝒏𝒔 𝒐𝒇 𝑳𝒐𝒏𝒅𝒐𝒏. In 1982, it made an appearance in the miniseries 𝑻𝒉𝒆 𝑳𝒊𝒇𝒆 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝑨𝒅𝒗𝒆𝒏𝒕𝒖𝒓𝒆𝒔 𝒐𝒇 𝑵𝒊𝒄𝒉𝒐𝒍𝒂𝒔 𝑵𝒊𝒄𝒌𝒍𝒆𝒃𝒚, 🎩 where Cathryn Harrison wore it as Henrietta Petowker.   👀 Find out where else this gown has been spotted by visiting Bit.ly/VicEd242

Charles Dickens created some of the most memorable villains in all of English Literature. One of the cruelest was Wackford Squeers from Nicholas Nickleby. What's a book that you pushed through even though you never enjoyed it? #amreading #reading ❅ ❅ ❅ ❅ ❅ It took me ages to finish this book. Literally started it in January of this year and finished it in April. For some reason, I just didn't get invested in Nicholas Nickleby like I have been able to do in Dickens' other works. I loved A Tale of Two Cities--it's one of my favorites. But Nicholas Nickleby just didn't draw me in--ever. I kept waiting to feel something for these characters, to get invested, but I couldn't. And not until the last couple of chapters did I even care. (And this is a long book.) ❅ ❅ ❅ ❅ ❅ So why did I finish it? Well, I really wanted to read several of Dickens' works this year, ones I haven't read before. But other than that personal challenge, I really didn't have a reason. I don't regret finishing it, it was a stubborn pursuit that merely betrays my refusal to give up.
