HMD Global has announced its latest Nokia branded smartphones in an online live stream. Alongside Nokia 8.3 5G – which is the first-ever Nokia smartphone with 5G connectivity, the company has unveiled the lower mid-range Nokia 5.3 and affordable Nokia 1.3.
No launch events are currently happening due to the global coronavirus outbreak, however, it’s not stopping the smartphone brands from announcing their latest devices. Online live streaming is the only option for companies right now to unveil their new devices. So the HMD Global is no exception.
Nokia 5.3
Nokia 5.3  features a 6.55-inch IPS display with 720p HD+ resolution and dew-drop notch on top. There is an 8MP front-facing camera inside the notch with f/2.0 lens aperture.
The phone is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 665 system-on-chip. Announced with 3GB, 4GB, and 6GB RAM options, the phone will be available in single memory configuration based on the region along with 64GB internal storage. In the Middle East and Pakistan, the Phone will be available in 4GB/64GB configuration. Expandable memory is supported by a microSD card slot.
On the back, the Nokia 5.3 has a circular module with quad-camera setup, similar to what Nokia 8.3 5G offers. The main camera has a 13MP image sensor with an f/1.8 aperture lens. Ultra-wide angle camera is there with a 5MP image sensor. Further, there is a 2MP camera for macro shots and another 2MP depth sensor.
Backed by 4,000 mAh battery the phone has only 10-watt charging. However, HMD has claimed that it will easily last for two full days and won’t need to be charged too often.
Nokia 5.3 is Android One certified and comes with Android 10 out of the box. Two years of software upgrade and three years of monthly security updates are the key elements compared to any other Android smartphone.
Nokia 5.3 will globally start shipping from April in three colour options — Sand, Cyan, and Charcoal. The pricing starts from €189, however, the 4GB/64GB variant will cost $199 in the Middle East.

Nokia 1.3
With an acceptable 5.71-inch screen, the Nokia 1.3 features an IPS display with 720p HD+ resolution. The phone comes with a U-shaped notch on the display housing a 5MP front-facing camera.
Nokia 1.3 is powered by an entry-level Qualcomm 215 Mobile Platform. Inside, a quad-core CPU is coupled with a 1GB RAM, while the storage option is limited to 16GB. Memory expansion is supported up to 400GB via microSD card.
The phone comes with a single 8MP rear camera which is claimed to perform nicely in low-light conditions. Google’s Camera Go app makes it possible to take portrait shots with its AI capabilities.
Nokia 1.3 features a 3,000 mAh battery with 5-watt charging with micro USB connectivity. The phone runs Android 10 Go edition out of the box and is promised to get Android 11 Go edition.
Also available globally from April, the Nokia 1.3 will be available in three colours — Cyan, Sand, and Charcoal. The phone will cost €95 in Europe and $99 worldwide.

Mobile phones are an essential part of day-to-day living for most people, but the idea of navigating and using one can be daunting if you aren’t entirely familiar with the latest technology. If you or someone you know struggles with conventional devices, it doesn’t mean you have to miss out on everything that a mobile phone has to offer. See related Best mobile network 2020: The cheapest, fastest and most reliable networks in the UK Best budget smartphone 2021: The best cheap phones you can buy in the UK Best phone battery life 2021: The longest-lasting smartphones ranked Thankfully, despite the overwhelming number on the market, there are actually quite a few mobile phones that have been designed with simplicity and ease of use in mind. Our roundup of the best simple mobile phones for older people is designed to help you make an informed decision based on your own specific requirements or the needs of someone you know.Whether your concerns are ease of use, vision, mobility impairment or generally just a bit of technophobia, our comprehensive list of the best simple mobile phones includes something for everyone. There's also a very handy buying guide at the bottom of this list, to help make your buying decision even easier. The best simple mobile phones for older people 1. Doro 8035: Best simple smartphone for ease of usePrice: £192 | Buy now from Amazon 📷 The Doro 8035 isn’t the flashiest of smartphones, but what it lacks in speed and features it more than makes up in usability. This is the very definition of a simple phone for older people – so much so that it has a dedicated assistance button on the back that can be set up to call a friend, family member or even the emergency services if need be.The Doro 8035 uses the Android operating system, meaning you can download apps from the Google Play Store if you want to. The phone includes a very simple and straightforward setup process, and Doro’s interface is big, bold and easy to navigate. The Doro 8035 also includes helpful return, home and recent apps buttons on the front of the phone. You can pick up the Doro 8035 for £140 when you buy the handset outright or from as little as £13 a month on a 24-month contract.Read our full Doro 8035 reviewKey specs – Processor: Qualcomm Snapdragon 210; Display: 5in 1,280 x 720; Storage: 16GB; Camera: 5-megapixel; Operating system: Android 7.1; Weight: 171g 📷Doro 8035 Unlocked 5 MP Camera Smartphone for Seniors with 5" Display, GPS Localisation and Dual Interface (Blue)£104.95Buy now 2. iPhone SE (2020): Best simple iPhone with assistive technologyPrice: From £395 | Buy now from Amazon 📷 Apple’s dinky iPhone SE is back and while it's far from the cheapest handset on this list, Apple's user interface makes for an effortlessly simple experience. The iPhone SE (like all iPhones) comes with all sorts of accessibility options, including text resizing, colour changes, mono audio and subtitles. You can also enable AssistiveTouch, which is specifically designed to help people with motor skill issues when using touchscreens. Being a smartphone, you can download applications from the Apple App Store such as Facebook, Netflix and a wide variety of mobile games if you're so inclined.Read our full iPhone SE (2020) reviewKey specs – Processor: Apple A13 Bionic; Display: 4.7in 1,134 x 720; Storage: 64GB/128GB/256GB; Camera: 12-megapixel; Operating system: iOS 13; Weight: 148g 📷Apple iPhone SE (64GB) - Black£399.00Buy now📷 3. Nokia 1.3: Best smartphone under £70Price: £65 l Buy now from Carphone Warehouse 📷 The Nokia 1.3 offers the best of both worlds when it comes to accessibility and options to explore the full potential of smartphones. The device uses Android Go, a stripped-back version of the operating system used by many modern mobile phones today.Android Go gives users access to simplified version of apps such as YouTube, Google Maps, Facebook. Not only are these apps easier to use, but they also take up less space, meaning they can be incorporated into cheaper handsets like the Nokia 1.3. Both of these things are an advantage if
you’re new to mobile phones but want to enjoy the benefit of everything the Google Play Store has to offer. The limited capacity means you won’t be able to download lots of apps before running out of space, although this can be expanded via microSD up to a further 400GB. The phone is quite small but there are options to change font sizes and use text-to-speech apps if impaired vision is a worry. The phone is also well-built and should be able to withstand the occasional accidental drop.Read our full Nokia 1.3 reviewKey specs – Processor: Qualcomm Snapdragon 215; Display: 5.7in 1,520 x 720; Storage: 16GB; Camera: 8-megapixel; Operating system: Android 10 Go; Weight: 155gBuy now from Carphone Warehouse4. Google Pixel 4a: A simple phone with a massive screenPrice: £349 | Buy now from Argos 📷 If a big screen and ease of use are at the top of your list of priorities when searching for a mobile phone, Google’s Pixel 4a is a perfect choice. Not only does it include a massive 5.8in Full HD display, but it also comes installed with the most basic version of Android, which makes it a solid introduction for those previously unfamiliar with the operating system. The one downside of the Pixel 4a is the price. Regardless, this is the most fully-featured Android phone to date, with superb internal specifications and a long list of top-end features. You may want to steer clear if you’re a bit of a technophobe, but the Pixel 4a is ideal if you’re ready to take on a modern phone with a simplified Android operating system. The Pixel 4a costs £349 when you buy the handset outright or can be picked up for around £19 a month on contract.Read our full Google Pixel 4a reviewKey specs – Processor: Qualcomm Snapdragon 730; Display: 5.8in 2,340 x 1,080; Storage: 128GB; Camera: 12.2-megapixel; Operating system: Android 11; Weight: 143gBuy now from Carphone WarehouseHow to choose the best simple mobile phone for older peopleWhy should I buy a simple mobile phone? The older generation may not have grown up with some of the tech we enjoy today, but that doesn’t mean it can’t be used. While learning new tech at a mature age might put you at a disadvantage, there are still plenty of things you can do to make the transition as easy as possible.Simple mobile phones are a great way to get to grips with new tech without being bombarded with potentially unnecessary features and functions. They can also alleviate some of the issues that may come with using a mobile device in old age, such as poor vision and arthritis. What features should I look for in a simple mobile phone?Simple mobile phones aren't often feature-rich, but still allow you to do everything you need such as make phone calls and send text messages. It’s not all old, brick-sized phones, either – some of the latest smartphones cater to the difficulties some older people might face. When choosing a simple mobile phone for an older person, there are a few features you may want to look out for to help make the phone more accessible.Bigger screenIf sight issues are a worry, a larger screen may help to alleviate any concerns. With screens getting bigger and bigger every year, it’s now easier than ever to find a mobile phone with a generous-sized screen. The size of the screen isn’t the only thing to consider, though, as small text can also cause problems for those with vision problems. Thankfully, most mobile phones include basic software options to change font size in order to write and read text messages, documents and any other text much easier. Some even have the option to bold text or change the font, which can also boost readability.Bigger buttonsPhones with physical buttons aren’t quite as common as they used to be, but if you struggle with touchscreen mobile phones, buttons can often make things much easier. Some touchscreens can be unpredictable – even for the most nimble of fingers – so trying to use them with impaired hand mobility can make life quite difficult. Thankfully, most feature phones still include physical keypads.Simple interface and operating systemThe sheer number of things you
can do on a modern phone continues to impress. For anyone relatively new to using them, however, it can be quite overwhelming. If you’re looking for something that performs basic duties such as calling, texting and occasional web-surfing, you may want to consider a phone with a stripped-back user interface or slimline operating system. Many phones support stripped-back versions of the Android operating system, while some don’t use Android at all, offering only the most basic of features for simplicity. What are the differences between a smartphone and a feature phone? Before deciding on a simple mobile phone, you should consider whether to opt for a smartphone or a feature phone. Understanding the differences between the two will help you make the best choice based on your specific needs. See related Best mobile network 2020: The cheapest, fastest and most reliable networks in the UK Best budget smartphone 2021: The best cheap phones you can buy in the UK Best phone battery life 2021: The longest-lasting smartphones ranked A feature phone includes all of the basic features you’d expect from a mobile device, but very little else. This includes applications such as a calendar, calculator and photo gallery but many go beyond this with a smattering of other features such as email and web browsing functions. With a feature phone, you won’t be able to download any additional apps from places like the Google Play Store.A smartphone is essentially like a mini-computer, which allows you to use the internet as well as install and use apps from places like the Google Play Store or Apple’s App Store. This could be anything from games and social apps to media streaming services such as Netflix and Amazon Prime Video. Of course, smartphones can be harder to navigate than feature phones, but if you’re looking to improve your mobile phone skills, this might be the better choice. How much should I expect to pay?Simple smart and feature phones, which are easier to use and typically designed for inexperienced phone users, are significantly cheaper than the all-singing, all-dancing top-of-the-range models.Prices can start as cheap as £30 for basic feature phones, hitting above £100 for more sophisticated smartphones. As a general rule, the more basic you go, the cheaper the phone will be.

Google Camera Go update brings night mode to entry-level phones
Got a low budget phone that gives good pictures in the daytime but you just can’t seem to find the right settings during a night-time hangout? Google has got you covered with the latest update for the Camera Go app.
Low light, camera, action
Tumblr media
! With Night Mode on Camera Go, take high-quality photos on your Android phone, no matter what time of day it is. pic.twitter.com/UooQhAm9tF
— Android (@Android) October 5, 2020
Google has begun rolling out an update for the Camera Go app on Android Go which brings a dedicated night mode for the budget phones letting you capture better images at night without using flash.
Although the quality is not the same in phones like the Google Pixel series which use Google Night Sight’s AI magic to produce impressive images, it does produce decent quality photos at night by capturing a burst of photos at different exposures which are then combined to give a single result. Google has optimized the Camera Go app to capture pictures using night mode on low-end hardware for specific camera modules.
It does not seem that this feature will be limited by any hardware as of now but the update is only rolling out to Nokia 1.3, Wiko Y61, Wiko Y81.
At the end of the announcement, Google also teased the release of an HDR feature for phones running on Android Go as well but did not announce when we can expect the upgrade.
It is a disappointment to see that popular phones like the Redmi Go will not be receiving the update yet but we will have to wait and see as Google adds more phones.

Google Camera Go app gets 'Night Mode' for low-light photography
Tumblr media
Google Camera Go app has received a dedicated Night Mode for enhanced low-light photography on low-end Android Go-supported devices.
"Low light, camera, action! With Night Mode on Camera Go, take high-quality photos on your Android phone, no matter what time of day it is," the company tweeted late on Monday along with a video.
The video revealed that the camera app has been built for specific camera modules on affordable phones. So it is not just software but a combination of software and hardware.
Night Mode on Camera Go has begun rolling out to the Nokia 1.3, Wiko Y61 and Wiko Y81 smartphones.
In addition, Camera Go will get an HDR mode later this year that will increase the quality of photos taken on these budget devices.
The evidence of an HDR Mode was found in the Camera Go app as far back as April and it is believed that the pandemic is responsible for the delay in rolling out the feature. Read More

Right Nokia Device For You
Nokia was once the largest phone company in the world. In 2020 it is seeing a renaissance for a budget- to midsize Android participant, with a couple of premium handsets thrown in for good measure.
Nokia was the top phone company in the world. Nokia mobiles are in fact made by fellow Finnish company HMD Global, who permits using the Nokia name. When we first heard about the partnership we had been skeptical, but it has been shown to be an outstanding one - we now find ourselves reviewing a few premium handsets thrown in for good measure.
It means there is a wide selection of Nokia phones for you in case you have your heart set on one, but the massive range can be perplexing. That is why we've rated the eight best Nokia mobiles for many people below.
We have fully reviewed each and recorded the pros and cons so that you can see which has the best features and price for your requirements and budget. Plus Nokia phones all have excellent clean Android applications and amazingly frequent software upgrades, so they're a good choice if you would like a phone that lasts a great three years.
We have not yet reviewed the newly announced Nokia 8.3 5G, but it looks like a good 5G alternative for 2020. With the Snapdragon 765G onboard it might be a lower cost option than other 5G Android mobiles also HMD said it is due to be published sometime around June.
HMD also unveiled the Nokia 5.3 and Nokia 1.3, mid-range, and funding choices that we hope to assess as soon as you can, and will without doubt appear in this graph to substitute some of the old versions.
Tumblr media
Nokia 9 PureView The Nokia 9 PureView is Nokia's latest flagship phone, and it includes cutting-edge characteristics to match. Specifically, it includes one significant feature (or five depending on how you count it) in the kind of its own five-sensor rear camera, that is the most we have seen in a smartphone.
It isn't exactly a costly phone either, in contrast to a number of the flagships you can purchase today, so in case you would like a photographic smartphone powerhouse without taking a chunk out of your bank accounts, this might be the phone for you.
The Nokia 9 PureView has problems because most phones do, but it represents the finest Nokia has to offer at the moment.
Nokia 8.1 The Nokia 8.1 was our beloved Nokia phone until the Nokia 9 PureView came together -- it is a competent mid-range apparatus offering up a tried-and-tested Snapdragon 710 chipset, functional camera, and decent battery, all for a relatively low cost.
For this kind of low-cost phone, you will surely be impressed by its display, with 2280 x 1080 Total HD and an 81 percent screen-to-body ratio, and an elegant design to match.
It is by no means a powerful smartphone, and it will not rival high-end versions concerning specs of purposes, but in its price band, it is a tempting device.
Nokia 8 Nokia phones are usually reliable handsets that lack any identifying or identifying features, and the Nokia 8 is a prime example of this. It looks great, with an impressive display and beautifully designed body, but lots of the other attributes could be described as 'fine'.
The double cameras were acceptable in 2017 when the phone was released, and features such as the 3.5mm headphone jack and physical front which was commonplace but are not anymore may attract users who like these attributes.
With the Nokia 8, you are getting a good handset which will not let you down but will not be an icebreaker at parties. While the Nokia 6.1 does not really have all the bells and whistles of the other Nokia handsets above, it's still a terrific device -- especially given lots of the drawbacks we could attribute to it would not realistically be expected on a phone of its cost.v
