I do think Ome.luum, being a Mind Flayer, can sometimes have difficulty with expressing and even understanding emotions. It has a range of emotions, even those often unseen from their kind as noted in game, but that doesn't mean there isn't issues. They are very direct with thoughts and words as to not be misconstrued or taken as manipulation, but due to this can sometimes appear cold or distant or making conversations feel 'too professional'.

From others, sarcasm can be occasionally lost on them as well as sincere displays from those it has not been around for long. They do not wish to pry through minds unrequested to determine the legitimacy or origins of words, but also coming from a species whose manipulation is basically written in DNA, it's a caution that's innate and hard to shake. Of course such paranoia it will not speak and will display what is believed to be proper in the moment- either a light comment if it's a joke or sarcasm, or a simple thank you or display of appreciate in one way or another if a sincere display of positivity

I am changing Morgan’s backstory a bit; instead of her cult leader being a bored Eladrin I’m making it a Mind Flayer instead, breeding his own little psychic human/illithid monstrosities.

It just works better with nearly everything I had set up + adds an easy link to the main story, gives a canon reason for Morgan to be so good at psychic abilities and her penchant for slurping tadpoles, how her cult leader knew to use a sussur blossom on her emerging wild magic, etc.

All of the rituals and customs her cult came up with involving their removal of body hair and self hatred of their human form is because their ideal body is of an illithid, and they try to make themselves as close as possible to please their uncaring and distant overlord. And works really well why she tries so hard to hide her history and is embarrassed of it.

Now she has extra story potential with the Emperor and even Omeluum… Anyways my bg3 file is all fucked up after the update, once I get it fixed we are doing a new Morgan run 👏🏻

I agree with 99% of this reply, though I just wanted to clarify that the Mengele comparison was in reference to the specifics of Society's plan to use experimental psionics to age the Githyanki egg to adulthood in only a few years, an enormous and uncontrolled variable that negates all scientific rigor and increases the cruelty of the action well past even the amount required of the base idea in a way that reminded me of many of the "experiments" carried out by Mengele.

I'm starting to wonder if Omeluum is actually any better than the Emperor or if it just finds itself in a position where its best bet for freedom happens to align more closely with conventional humanoid morality. It works with the Society of Brilliance, an organization that plans to study behavioral psychology by kidnapping a baby and torturing them from birth to adulthood. And that's just what the Society is willing to share with outsiders! Omeluum must know about this plan, and it's more than a little bit fucked up that it views this as a moral advancement from the historical behavior of Illithid. Just a reformed slaver dabbling in a bit of Mengele shit with the same racial group it previously held as slaves. I guess.

Omeluum is, at best, a bit smarter than the Emperor.

My Tav/I have little nicknames for all the Compaions

Karlach is Solare Meu (my sun in Latin/infernal) because they are both tieflings she gets a special infernal nickname

Shadowheart gets my heart, it’s low hanging fruit but to cute not to use.

Minthara is simply Majesty, because she’s the underdark prettiest princess.

Lae’zel gets Peridot not only because it’s a green gem but because it’s commonly found in meteorites, so it’s a precious gem from space like lae’zel.

Jaheria gets to be Zephyr because of its association with speed and storms.

She calls Wyll, Wyllyam and Gale a dork (sometimes her dork if she’s being generous) Minsc gets called wall™️ constantly although this is more affectionate bullying than a pet name like the others. Astarion gets nothing because I think he is stinky.

Those nicknames are so cute and thought out! They really do fit your Tav ngl.

My heart is a high tier nickname idc, it's genuinely so sweet and romantic it makes me melt.

I love Laezel's one, i am a sucker for all things mineral and gem related. Especially the fact it's from space like her aaaaa <3

Omfg Minthara- now you're making me think of an au where we're her servant in the underdark. I genuinely think she'd take the petname at face value and won't mind it one pet. Like yeah duh, of course she is.

For me the only nickname i gave was to Omeluum where I'd call him omulumlumulumlumu and just add more and more "lumulu" at the end depending on how excited i am to see him at that moment. I just love him so much! Omumumulumumulu my beloved <3

I type Astarion's name as Asta in my save files to save time, so i guess that could count. He is very stinky, i did use masqitue for a while after he fed for the first time.

I've talked about this wip before and I really don't have that much written, so some of this might be familiar, but eh. We'll see how long it takes to get this thing finished lmao

Grazilaxx inclined its head slightly in acknowledgement, but did not look away from the window.

"Neither are you."

Omeluum couldn't argue with that, and it floated over to join Grazilaxx by the window.

"How strange it is to think of how our little project has grown enough to have a proper base of operations."

An amused ripple escaped from Grazilaxx's mind. "I must admit, I did not expect them to last this long."

As companions, or without dying? Knowing Grazilaxx, it probably intended both, but Omeluum chose to only respond as if it were the former.

"I would not have blamed them. They have little reason to trust our kind." Omeluum's thoughts drifted to how their bonds had strengthened over the years, and it felt an odd warmth grow in its chest. "Even so, I am grateful that they do."
