Cassetti seems like the type of guy who would demolish a Wipeout course simply by running in a perpetually straight line out of both perseverance and bone-deep fear. That's how he escaped La Manchaland he scaled the wall like that one Charlie Brown GIF

razor/cheated and para/nightmare are the same type of relationship just two very different tones
they both engage in spy vs spy, "my beautiful wife(gender neutral) who wants me dead", behavior - creating elaborate ways to try to kill each other but theyre both immortal pieces of gods so they cant die
but cheated and razor do it because it quickly becomes a game they BOTH enjoy (cheated takes longer to like it but he does find razor fun to be around once he realizes he just needs to cheat back)
para and nightmare do it because they hate each other so much but they cant get rid of each other. like the premise of their route is paras terrified refusal to let mare out and mares cruelly playful refusal to ever let para know a hint of peace
its why i love both

Imagine the kids from Rayashki secretly do "tests" to see if Windsong can get with Vila 😭
The kids from Rayashki are their biggest shippers but at the same time the hardest wall to get through. They like Windsong but they like Vila more. Sorry Windsong but you gotta be accepted by them first.
I bet it's Nina who does the plans and the kids go along with it, Nina seems pretty into this. But their "tests" are pretty straight forward, like...
Nina: Miss Windsong, would you still like Vila if she was a worm?
Windsong: ? Uh, what's this about? Di- did Vila turn into a worm? (Whispering) Can a Rusalka do that?
Nina: Answer the question, Miss Windsong!
Windsong: Uh, of course I would! Vila is precious to me, even if she turned into a worm, I would still like Vila.
Nina: (Contemplating seriously while nodding) mhm...
Or the other kids like Pyotr and Pasono asking Windsong about other women to see her reaction.
Pasono: Do you think Angie is pretty, Miss Windsong?
Windsong: ? Who's Angie?
Pasono: The one with the mask! You know who, right Pyotr?
Pyotr: ...Is this necessary? (whispering)
Windsong: there's a lot of people with masks in the foundation, I'm now sure who you're talking to me about...
Pasono: Good!
In the end, it's a constant of weird questions and "tests" to see if Windsong deserves to date Vila. Spoiler alert: This wet rat passed the test with full stars.

i have found that the best way to enjoy the fourth wing series to just to accept that it's stupid as hell and not that well written and then just have fun with the huge dragons <3 i feel kind of insane when i see people on reddit talking about them like they're the best written fantasy they've seen in years but you know what. at least they're fun. that said your takes are so real and true lol i get it
It's so dumb and nonsensical, but it's not dull. We'll certain parts are too vague that it really doesn't make sense... and as a visual learner, I could not tell you what happened lol Weirdly enough, the reason I can pick these books apart is because Becky is doing so much. It's almost like reading fanfic that you know is just kind of throwing everything at the wall, and that's what we got. A really messed up disaster... Art is art, I guess.
I feel like I downplayed how much I've actually talked about this book this week. Like my friends (aka the coven) are getting even more comments. There are so many unhinged comments... I do love that I they just kind of let me vent out my frustration and help process the absurdity of it all.
I will say this book has given me a lot to think about and maybe not in the way Becky intended. I just know I'm not the audience for this specific brand of fantasy. I do love that people are reading, if nothing else.

like somewhere in me the wires between 'excitement' and 'dread' got mixed up and now they feel exactly the same and i cant enjoy stuff without taking a dozen steps to reassure myself that something bad is NOT happening and it's all fine we're just going to the movie theater to have a popped corn and see a big screen. it's ridiculous. it's outrageous. it's unconscionable

speaking of bsol through speaking of xmas xtrav that like i'm so augh god hand over heart falling over (just like the bloodsong b/c it's the like conclusion of being Overwhelmed By Artistic Effect that then in the ideal version you may as well die) at the thought of the finale where you have the main plot conclude as that Story w/those Themes like ah but even then, the influence, the other the musicians now, that this whole time like yeah you have to do it even if you just keep building or die or were thwarted even prior to that b/c you didn't know you wouldn't be....but that then just like in the opening song Outlaw or sort of distillation of the theme abt being someone making art Last On Land or that at other points other characters have emerged as not really their characters not really a greek chorus but elements of the story helping to Tell It, here's Everyone again for the friendship song altogether & each with an instrument & like not even able to see it but pics & imagining & the enthusiasm & the Thematic Resonance like this is when you are pursuing these pursuits together like _o__ (splayed out facedown emoji) aaauuughhh ;;mm;; bsol finale with everyone showing up playing & singing & dancing the song celebratory finale it's all the Theme when the full cast of Characters had only ever all been together for the one standoff scene at the end & yet obviously We've known them all & everyone is outlaws which is a song like i'm already going sicko mode & this is just the intro, so yknow, The Conclusion, good lord find an iconis musical finale without that place for the celebratory outpouring of enthusiasm right amidst other feelings & situations but Good Lord Here's This in a story that'll always have been all about people's depths & heights & widths & breadths & variations & tumult & all the dimensions, people will have Brought It all over the place & it's like yes leap around together playing & singing this song together which isn't The Story but is such an extension of it b/c bsol has its show within the show quality still infused all in it & if this flurry of Actors Celebrating Outpouring We Put On This Show but still within the show you are seeing as an audience in this venue wouldn't have been part of the original plan with a whole [outside the show within the show] plotline like. embraces bsol holding it so hard my becherished
#bsol#& in true xmas nature yknow like yeah i think of the whole show like wwaaughh think of the baby please come home like Aauuuughhh#think of specific moments within & none of those make me weep but they do make me go omg & woww yayy & clap & cheer & caper & gambol#but what everything has been: all about its central theme & bsol/xmas playing w/& sending up Genre Conventions we all know & thus can be#enough on the same page about so as to then be on the same page abt what's Unexpectedly done w/them but it's not just about#like oh we do this to be Above it b/c it's also done abt genre convention stuff that's enjoyed & interesting to its creator here so#that also as ever the Heart of w/e the genre stuff being messed with is Earnestly Kept & that's what all this is used to express things#with in addition to being able to have fun & explore things that plausibly a completely straightforward recreation type homage couldn't#or couldn't do as well without sacrificing one or the other vs if you're already doing an open like remix playing with exploration; then...#the conclusion of the xmas show isn't yeah i love xmas isn't that cringefail of me. yeah these xmas special media we're working off of#isn't that all so silly & no matter how much i love it it's important to end up Above It. like nobody's here to be above shit good god#soooo much more you can do if you don't have to prioritize That central theme. [you & me; We're superior] undermines Anything Else#while never holding yourself as Apart & Better lets anything else grow & flourish & have the Capacity & Flexibility to be & do whatever#the villain as an emotional reflection of part of the hero / representing a Possible Version of them; not Who They Could Never Be#as Only a force to be overcome with your greater force; though naturally yes the villain creates conflicts & stakes & obstacles#& in these so very genrey xmas bsol situations i'm clapping cheering go also very fun & funny little villain who kills you Gooo#100% this bitch Oh No Not Miserthorpe Krampington Thornwassail Cocodrilo that's right you fucks ahahahaaa >:) die btw#thinking about specific parts of bsol like oh wow oh yay oh this fun turn into this bit oh what a scene what a song wahooo#then overall like lying back reaching up Bloodsong....#thinking of the finale friendship song actors as actors ish characters ish ft. instruments 😭😭😭😭😭😭 (one each)#this mf (gesturing to myself who'll inevitably fire up Outlaw.mp3 at any moment & go Augh the harmonica the harmonies the chorus The This)#also that obviously i get to have a delightful time going well so of course lo cocodrilo is gay; perhaps & trans; &....

i think i might end up writing some sort of isekai story, i feel like that'd be a really fun way to talk about the language and worldbuilding. in my current small attempts at writing a story, all the dialogue is just in english cus any other way of writing it (footnotes, parentheses etc) would just be annoying i think, and i'm never quite sure how to describe worldbuilding details in a casual way that makes sense for the character but doesn't leave the reader confused and feeling like they need a glossary of all the new terms.
with an isekai'd protagonist, both they and the reader are experiencing the world for the first time, the text can simply be written in the conlang to emphasize just how disorienting this experience is, and, most importantly, they can bond with a cute elf over learning their language.

Day One Hundred Sixty-Six
I snapped at some of the students in my first section of Global Studies today. We were reading about the war in Ukraine- live updates, like I did with the war in Gaza- and they kept disrupting, but what got me was when they interrupted a student who was asking really good questions. They laughed when I told them to stop being so disrespectful, and I went off a bit because this is a serious subject and their classmates were clearly taking it seriously, and it's awful to laugh at that.
They were silent for the remainder of the block, and more and more students put their hands up to ask questions, so we ended up having an excellent discussion. The students in my other "A" section had a bunch of questions, too. At first, they were quiet- it was hot, it was getting towards the end of the day, etc, etc...- but as soon as one or two kids spoke up, more followed, and then it was like a tidal wave. We went right up to the bell.
In between Global Studies sections, I taught APGOV. And by taught I mean I commandeered The Principal's conference room so students could work on the projects they're doing in comfort (because it was hot by midday, and the conference room is air conditioned). The Principal spotted us and came to chat for a bit, too, before he headed out for lunch duty. It's fun for him to see the seniors in their last few weeks of school.
Speaking of seniors and the last few weeks of school, a bunch of my "quaranteens" from the class of 2020 have been posting their college graduation photos, and I've had so many feelings about that. If you were reading this blog that year you'll know I was teaching a truly special, once-in-a-career bunch of kids. It's cool to see them out there in the world now.
What else?
The track team did their famous obstacle course today, and it was epic. It's a great last hurrah for the athletes who aren't going to States, and a fun and stress-free practice day for those who are. Plus, we had a ton of pizza and cupcakes for afterwards. That's always a win with a pack of teenagers! It was a ton of fun being out there and enjoying the afternoon with them.
