#Omega Flowey I first-tried on my first playthrough

There is so much to say about this robot but let me start off with my initial thoughts on him.

For like, a good good while I wasn't sure what Mettaton's gender was? In all fairness I was raised in a hella conservative country and Undertale was the first piece of media I'd ever interacted with that even depicted queer people, so for a bit I assumed the pink meant he was probably female. That wasn't helped when I discovered that Mettaton was Blooky's cousin with the locked pink house.

Luckily for me he was discussed enough that I eventually realized my mistake before I ever had to admit it. That would have been emabrassing.

Anyway I absolutely adored this robot and his style, his quizzes were cool and he had the most charming attitude that made me smile whenever he was there (not to mention the quizzes were funny, too). Don't get me started on the musical. Or when he hits you with the puzzle you've almost certainly forgotten the rules for. Hotland is very well done, even if some people dislike having to deal with Alphys's messages there (personally I thought those were neat).

Despite all this I have to admit that I initially thought he was a lot more shallow than expected. I didn't realize he was the type of person to actually care about his love ones, and I probably would've believed anyone who told me he treated Alphys like shit (okay maybe I'd have been a little skeptical, but you get the point).

Nowadays, I'm honestly pretty fond of his relationship with Alphys, as he's probably the one person she relied on the most during her various fuck ups. Also, his... his worries about Alphys in the ending where he becomes king... ah, that still makes me tear up a little. You can tell he cares and regrets not being a better friend to her.

This is only partly related but I dislike Papyton. For no reason, really, I just don't like it, and I disliked having to see it so often (until I learnt filters existed, anyway). I couldn't tell you why; the ship's perfectly fine. Yet if I see a fic with it I click out. Oh well, maybe I'll get over it one day.

I could totally see a world in which I become as attached to Mettaton as I am to Cagliostro from GBF. I'm not trans by any stretch (perhaps I'm non-binary, given I don't actually care much about my own gender in the slightest, but for now I'll stick with cis+ until I actually feel like I should consider it more) but I do have admiration for characters like them who strive to be their best selves in terms of appearance and are absolutely confident in it. I suppose if I was born a girl, I'd be more attached to Mettaton than Cagliostro, but eh. Who knows.

Mettaton's importance (or rather, lack of) in the genocide run is saddening, though I have come to terms with it because in terms of the game's writing it's a pretty damn good decision. I do love that he got fangames giving him an actual battle though, it's lovely to see him actually get that chance to fight back.

I feel the need to restate once more that I adore his relationship with Alphys, and seeing works explore that relationship is always great. I think Mettaton is one of the least fan-explored of the game's main cast, so it'd be wonderful to see more works. It's a shame I'm too busy thinking about Sans, Frisk and Chara to do that myself, though.

One more thing: Until I wrote this post, I always wondered why Mettaton didn't just fight the human in his indestructible body instead, especially in the genocide route. I mean, it's obviously because his other forms are the ones actually designed for human eradication, of course, but I also like to think it's because he likes those forms a lot more than his box form, as he sees them as a proper expression of who he truly is. I just think that's neat. Sure, he's indestructible when stuck in the closet, hiding who he truly is, but it's restricting, and wouldn't you prefer to simply be you? Even if it could mean you could get hurt? I think that question is somewhat inseparable from Mettaton's character as a whole, as his overly confident and theatrical personality could perhaps be one answer to that. It's fine if you get hurt a little, because in the end you'll be much happier for it.

Anyway here's some highlights

(Also i'll now be referring to my sisters as YS and OS instead of younger sister amd older sister since its more convenient)

During the first puppet fight YS killed it immediately, for some reason

YS was for some reason insanely good at the game??? She did most fights first try with the only one that really was hard to beat for her was the mettaton fight????

Also speaking of mettaton she did all of his minigames correctly (except the tiles one) without any help from us, whar

Despite our not very professional translation, She picked up on stuff very fast and was able to connect facts very easily, guys ive seen so many adults play this game in english that were just so confused through the whole game what in the world

She also checked almost everything there was to check, again I've watched many playthroughs and in so little of them were people so determined to click everything they can

she doesn't like burgerpants :(

One of the hardest decisions for her was wether to tell undyne if she has seen alphys or not

She's nr 1 flowey hater and after fighting the omega version of him she instantly killed him luke she didn't even hesitate ive never seen anyone do that

Almost a similar thing happened when fighting asriel where she was again ready to end him immediately, she was so pissed at him you wouldn't belive, however by the end of the time she felt so bad for asriel she was irl reassuring him she'd stay with him :((

After finishing the game she did the cloudy glasses money trick to raise money for tem's collage, just because she wanted to help her

Also after going to the start of the game where asriel was she read through all of his dialogue and tried to stay with him

tbh i,, don’t really know what this question means? i obviously love the entire Undertale soundtrack, bc who doesn’t, if it means favorite song tho then it’s a tie between Bonetrousle & Megalovania, because Megalovania still fuckin slaps

in my first playthrough I’m pretty sure I reset before I got to Mettaton because I ended up doing a neutral run first, but in my second playthrough i’m like 99% sure I said “leg so hot. hot hot leg. leg so hot u fry an egg.” he liked it

11. Your reaction when you saw Omega Flowey for the first time:

I’m pretty sure I audibly screamed, lmao. You never expect something like that with Undertale’s art style, especially not back when it was still new & only a few months old rip

13. Which UT character reminds you of yourself?

Papyrus, definitely. I like him so much because I can really relate to him, in the sense of (it might get a bit sad here sorry) being the “forgotten” sibling & not having many friends who actually know you as a person :/ I also try to be as optimistic as i can too, tho!!

ok i have a confession,,, I tried to kill Papyrus in my first playthrough :( i SUCKED during his fight and he threw me in the shed twice so i got frustrated. luckily, he beat me the 3rd time and just let me go, so i didn’t actually kill him

later on in that run I started treating UT like a normal RPG, by which I mean I started killing monsters for no reason other than i needed money & more HP. i stopped & reset abt halfway through hotland tho, and I haven’t done anything but true pacifist since!!

I remember first joining the Undertale fandom just over a year ago. I was browsing YouTube and JackSepticEye's Undertale playthroughs showed up in my suggested feed. That started everything.

I was reluctant at first, but then I started browsing DeviantART and Tumblr and I was slowly beginning to fall into the Underground. Two months later I was neck deep in the fandom and couldn't get out.

Of course, I was extremely new and didn't know that Undertale's anniversary was on September 15th, so I missed the first anniversary.

half a year later, I got the game. I played it the for the first time and got killed by a Moldsmal.

I died 14 times from Mad Dummy. Undyne killed me 26 times. Omega Flowey killed me 9 times. But I held onto my determination.

Honestly, I don't think I would be here like this right now if it weren't for this game.

While as a game, Undertale falls flat in a lot of places, the sheer...

Journey and EXPERIENCE was just so...

wow.

One of the things that struck me hard was the story behind Flowey. When Asriel was turned into that small golden flower, he would try and help everyone, to become friends with them. But time and time again, the timeline was reset. Over and over. All progress was lost. Again and again, he tried, but it was no use.

he eventually stopped. He became hollow. So he started to kill. But that became boring and stale. It would just reset and all progress would be gone, again.

We as players behind the screen can do the True Pacifist and the Neutral run as many times as we want, but we're eventually going to become bored. We might do a Genocide run, but even that will become boring as well.

but despite that, we stayed. We held on to our DETERMINATION.

I'm still here. I'll probably still be here for a while, and I'm not planning on leaving the Underground any time soon.

7. Why did you decide to play UT?: OH THERE’S A STORY BEHIND THIS- so i’m nearing a year into the fandom, still haven’t gotten to play the game yet because i’m broke. BUT i’m going on a school trip to washington dc for a week, my mom gives me money on a visa card for souvenirs. i’m wandering the shops, when i realize: i don’t have to spend this all on overpriced souvenirs. once i got home i bought undertale and later bought stardew valley with the rest of it-

Which of human souls fits you the most?: OH this one’s interesting, for the longest time, none of the soul traits seemed to fit me and i joked about how maybe i’m just soulless. a couple of weeks ago i had this dream, all i could remember was that i was holding out my soul, and learned that in the very least my subconscious self thinks my soul is integrity

Do you forgive Asgore for what he’s done?: while i don’t think anything can justify him killing 6 human children, i can forgive him. it wouldn’t be easy, being king in his circumstances. knowing your people would never be truly happy until they were free, but also knowing that you could suffer the same fate as your son if you cross the barrier and get the rest of the souls yourself. if the solution falls down a convenient hole in the mountain and comes to you, you’d be very compelled to take it and live with the guilt and consequences.
