Okay 3 things
1. I was thinking about an aroace Sonic who says things that can be taken as wildly flirty/romantic but he just means them genuinely. “You have beautiful eyes, I keep getting distracted while looking at them,” not cause he’s interested romantically in them but because eyes can be really cool and pretty man I dunno what to tell you he likes looking at cool things and he thinks his friends are neat. “You’re the most beautiful person here,” because he really thinks that, he loves his friends
2. Sonic randomly dropping heartfelt genuine comments on his friends out of the blue completely blindsiding them and then moves on like nothing happened while they’re left going ?????? Bonus points if he does something immensely stupid or jerkish just before or immediately afterwards and they can’t tell if he was serious or not with the compliment (yes he was)
3. Sonic usually being so allergic to truly vulnerable moments that when he expresses something heartfelt randomly Tails thinks he’s been stabbed or something and does not believe him when he reassures him that he’s fine he’s fine he’s not dying yeesh

There are so many timeskips within the flashback! My flow and pacing are wheezing!#I loved how this scene starts with the crowd's point of view. The observations and gossip add a lot.#And it helps reposition us to what the external perspective is on these two. Namely that 'they don't get along.'#Tensions are known! Even here in Nouveau Lotus Pier.#Ah...Lan Wangji never got a chance to see the Lotus Pier of Wei Wuxian's childhood and adolescence...did he?#It's not the same. He's not the same. Call them by the same name and people will know what you mean...#...but the first version - the one with the fond memories - is gone for good.#It's sort of interesting isn't it? How names can hold so much power and still be hollow?#We often get stuck over past versions of things. Be it ourselves or other people or places.#Change is scary but the truth is nothing ever stays the same. It's always moving. You're always moving.#It's okay to mourn the past. Maybe it's people you lost or the person you hoped to be. Let yourself feel the grief.#And then? Then you grow around that pain and keep on going. If you feel like you can't - remember you don't have to do it alone.#A side note: Listening to the tossing flowers extra is so essential for this scene. we’re introduced to emmrich’s perspective on necromancy—i.e. the hope that it isn’t just a spirit, dead souls do in some way partially return—as one perspective, as a possibility or theory. emmrich himself introduces the topic as “the eternal question” to which there’s no solid answer. so it still permits other characters, and the audience if they so choose, to believe the more standard dragon age lore that necromancy and walking corpses are merely spirits, no souls involved. it’s therefore not lore-breaking. emmrich’s perspective is also one we’ve seen people consider before, for example in dai when discussing with cassandra and leliana whether the divine justinia spirit in the fade was in some way “really her”. so far so good! my problem, however, is that i do believe the more standard dragon age lore on the subject and have never seen anything to change that opinion. because emmrich’s story and abilities are presented basically as if his perspective were true, so i have to deal with the implications all by myself. what’s in that skull? NOT johanna hezenkoss! who’s answering those interrogations and corpse whispers? NOT the people who used to be in those bodies! who’s in there if emmrich becomes a lich? well i go back and forth on this one because the nature of the procedure is murky but there’s a very real possibility in my mind that it’s not emmrich!
#caveat: these things may believe they are those people and have the memories + personalities of then#*them#and you can make the argument that that means they functionally for all intents and purposes ARE those people#but regardless of that theyre definitely spirits. to Me.#second caveat: me believing this is not saying its definitely true in-world bc my point is there are multiple perspectives#and every character should have different ones. this is just how i personally think thedas works#and not trying to like. discount anyone’s ocverse/headcanons that utilise emmrich’s perspective if that makes sense

taiwan travelogue by yang shuangzi tr. lin king is indeed an award-winning banger and perhaps the first time in my life i've ever felt vindicated for dual-wielding a novel with its english translation because the act of translation itself is such a big theme in the novel. big win for metafiction-obsessed himejin everywhere!!
#i genuinely burst into tears twice just thinking about the ending of this book#read if you enjoy: narratives about colonialism. barriers to understanding formed by language and power dynamics. FOOD AS LOVE#i also just bought the authors most recent book and its also very fun and maybe what id recommend as a lighter entry point into her work#as a yuri thats also very slice-of-life with food-as-love themes but requires less historical/cultural background to access#alas no. 1 siwei st doesnt have a translation. yet... unless.......#txt#spoilers further in tags#i think part of what makes chizuru/chien-ho such an intriguing character is carried by the conceit of translation as interpretation#her role as someone who dreams of translating novels but not one who writes them... delivering others stories to a broader audience#shes very much a character who we only get to see from the outside; most notably from the perspective of the novel's unreliable narrator#which we read as a 2nd ed translation of the original japanese text by an uninvolved third party looking back years after the authors death#but it turns out [spoilers] chizuru herself wrote the 1st ed translation and the first time we hear *her* voice is in her translators note#and her perspective and the negative space between her words are both *infinitely* fascinating#even the concept! of translating a novel where youre a main character who the narrator loves and desperately wants to understand! wtf!!!!!!#rotating her in my mind. 小千妳到底是何方聖神啊...

Rest in peace double straps.#I adore how we get to keep learning about Jin Ling and peeling back the layers on him...It's also so sad to see him so alone and friendless#especially knowing he really was starting to build peer friendships in the yi city arc...#Jin ling really is one of my top 5 characters in MDZS and its absolutely in part because of how you can *see* how he ended up this way#and we watch him learn and grow! He's doing what most adults refuse to do: Consider that his opinions are skewed and need to change.#You are NOT immune to propaganda and I adore characters who reflect and struggle with that!#Just because someone with assumed authority says something that fits into what you want to be true does not make it true B*/#In this series about rumours and warped perspectives - Jin Ling is a great example of how hard you have to work for the truth#+1 points of friendship with jin ling: He will self correct himself if he says a slur now

#lemon demon#spirit phone#cabinet man#my art#I think i did a good job with the hands in this but they definitely look a little off#the composition is kinda weird too but changing it would change the entire drawing and i like this drawing#I see people drawing cabinet man as either just a box with a screen on it or the most detailed shaped thing ever so I went in the middle#it's definitely not perfect because I didn't know perspective stuff AT ALL when I made this.#also on the left one it's way too wide it wouldn't need to be that thick it could fit everything if it were like 3/4 the width#I mean my only real world reference point was a modern one without the crt screen so maybe not but I think it'd be fine#if i draw something like this again (which i won't soon because this is still getting notes) I'd put some dimension in the screen#maybe find a reference image
