All our bubbies are gone. While we are sad, there is always the great hope they are snuggling together again, but at least they’re not missing each other. Moments of sadness for nearly decades of awesome. Done. Bye Bella girl...alien baby/stubborn princess. Say hey to your brother for us. #dogs #grief #onwego togocounseling.com https://www.instagram.com/p/CKOtrCsB0aK/?igshid=729vfdpyo107

Milan 3 Roma 1
One team, one dream
The usual ratings and comments
MAIGNAN 9 MOTM Made several key plays early including streaking off his line to claim a cross headed for Abraham. Later stuffed Zaniolo on a clear chance. On a night when we started our 3rd RB, 2nd RB, 5th CB and defensively inept LB across the back he had to come up huge. HE DID. Nuff said. I will fight anyone and everyone on this.
FLORENZI 7 For a guy that was a last minute signing, that Roma was trying to GIVE AWAY mind you, has proved quite valuable. Another solid veteran performance. Free kick crashed off the cross bar otherwise this is a solid 8.
KALULU and GABBIA 7 Did an incredible impression of late 2000s Silva and Nesta. Gabbia the stay at home guy and Kalulu making the runs. If you watched the pregame on CBS Mike Grella pointed out the kind of runs Tomori makes to cut out danger. Kalulu did exactly that on several occasions. That was massive. Got a little scattered right before the half but otherwise remained on point.
Quick aside.... Grella’s work on tactics and analysis at CBS has been great. He started off a little slow for my tatse but is getting better every week. Straight to the point and no nonsense. He shows you something simple and then you see it in game. No over involved explanations or wonky stats. What more can you ask for?
THEO 7.5 Great job last night. Agitated all night long and really took the pressure off the rest of the back 4. Every starter on Roma’s right got a yellow card and 2 of them saw red. Their ratings on Whoscored? 5.6, 4.8 and 4.7. Masterclass of shit housery and skill.
TONALI 8 My second MOTM behind Maignan. Brilliant all night long on the ball.
KRUNIC 7.5 Here we were worried about the double pivot during AFCON. How would Bakayoko hold up? Turns out Krunic is the guy and we’re fine. With his combination of durability and versatility he, along with Saelemaekers, are the glue guys keeping us rolling.
MESSIAS 8 Love when he gets super wide. Out there he can drag defenders and beat them 1v1. Also has impeccable sense of when to make runs to goal. Exactly the kind of guy we needed at RW. Haters have vanished.
DIAZ 7 Pre-Covid Brahim was back. Love the space that Giroud affords him by staying high. The difference between the space afforeded him against Roma as opposed to when Ibra started against Napoli is night and day.
SAELEMAEKERS 7 Equally frustrated and agitated Roma’s flanks. Him and Theo are solidly rent free in all those guys heads. Does whatever is asked of him and does it 100%.
GIROUD 8 Created space all day long by staying high and needing constant attention. Truly a ‘team’ performance by him. Smashed home the PK. Master stroke loan move.
subs
LEAO 8 DUDE! IT IS SOOOOOOOO NICE TO SEE YOU!!
BAKAYOKO 7 Better. Not great. Just better.
ZLATAN 7 Great hold up play and assist to Leao. NO MORE PKs bro. I thought we talked about this?
CONTI 7 Farewell/testimonial game for him. The guy I was legit most excited about during the summer of triple handshakes. Dude was a freak. Two busted ACLs robbed him and us of what could have been.
MALDINI 6 He played.
coach
PIOLI 10 Master class. No other way to put it. Things I loved?
- With no back line decided to press high and chase Roma all over the place. This took the pressure off our backline and dumped it all on theirs.
- Krunic making runs to get super high and keep Roma pinned in.
- Kalulu making similar runs from the back to cut out any counters.
-Started the game with Leao and Zlatan on the bench. I think most figured they were there just in case of emergency. instead brought them on with blood already in the water. There’s not a manager in Europe that’s done better at managing the 5 sub rule.
Mourinho came in wanting to sit back and counter in his absurd 532 and Pioli stole his lunch money AND his girlfriend. Honestly can’t remember the last time a Milan coach so thoroughly destroyed his opposition.
THOUGHTS
- I thought the ref was ok but now the FIGC is giving him a week off I guess? He got the calls right, now doubt. His control of tempers and the temperature of the match was poor though.
- This makes 19 different starting lineups in 20 games now for Milan, including 14 different back lines. Pioli is a wizard folks. I was wrong.
- We are currently leading the league in counter attacking goals with 6. I love that stat.
- If you are not getting the Paramount Plus feed with Matteo Bonetti and Andres Cordero, I feel for you. For my money there is no better announcing duo on any network on any sport. Bonetti brings the passion and there is no better informed and researched play-by-play guy than Cordero. They are at the top of their game and clearly doing the league they love. Great stuff.
All for now.
Venezia early Sunday, Genoa in the Coppa mid week followed by Spezia the following weekend.

As the vinyl lettering inside the door peeled off, @benitaunplugged strategically left a few letters behind. A beautiful little message. Matchday 9: Milan x Bologna

We RIDE!
Massive game to keep the ball rolling in the league. Theo and Brahim are already out it appears so are Kessie and Rebic. Also possible we see some rotation with a quick turnaround to play an improving Torino on Tuesday. Yet, we must soldier on. As I mentioned to Frank in the chat we have won the last 5 against Bologna. No reason to change that now. Some guys need to step up though. Would be nice to see Saele or Benacer get one on the board. Let’s keep a clean sheet and bring home all 3 points. #ONWEGO

WTF Serie A Whiparound!

Here we go!
I’ll go in order of the current table.
This a MILAN blog and we are in first. ‘Nuff said.
For those that thought Gattuso had no idea what he was doing offensively... Surprise! NAPOLI is virtually scoring at will with 14 goals in 4 (actual) matches. The scoring is spread out and most importantly their leading scorer, Lozano, is a guy that people were starting to worry would be a flop. Also, they kept Koulibaly.... probably the best non-transfer of the summer.
The top three currently consists of the three coaches I opined back in June that I thought were handling subs and rotation the best since the break.... Pioli, Gattuso and SASSUOLO’s Roberto De Zerbi. With a packed schedule and the random Covid curveball it’s a must. While Sassuolo isn’t keeping a clean sheet any time soon, they haven’t yet, they are gonna come at you for 90 straight minutes with skill AND numbers.
On the other end of that scale is Antonio Conte. The roster is bizarre and his subs even more so. Barella and Lukaku seem to be excelling in spite of his nonsense. Eriksen clearly is not. How INTER is in fourth I’m not sure anyone knows but I’ll bet their fans will take it.
So Pirlo was an idiot, then a genius, then an idiot, then a genius..... you get the point. Which is it really? Who knows. The bottom line is after all the tinkering he’ll wake up one day and realize he can just put Ronaldo and Dybala out there everyday in that JUVENTUS kit. In this whacky season that may once again prove to be enough.
I picked ATALANTA 6th before the season. Right now I look like a genius! Yay! The previous super long season, the backup of CL fixtures and the mostly invisible Ilicic are conspiring against them right now. It’s weird that top 4 is now an expectation for Atalanta. Maybe it shouldn’t be?
SAMPDORIA lost their first 2 pretty badly. Of course now they have beaten Fiorentina, Lazio and Atalanta on the bounce by a total score of 8-2. The tinker man is tinkering and the old man, Quagliarella, is young again after being old again. I’m sure another year of finishing between 8th and 17th is in the cards. It’s what they do. Oh and I like Thorsby!
In a league where half the teams are scoring 2+ goals a game, VERONA is averaging only one. They have scored 5 goals in 5 games. BUT..... 3 of those actually came due to a forfeit. In truth over 4 games Verona has scored only 2 goals on the field but also conceded only 2. Will this last? I think the inept offense will. It stinks. I don’t think the super stingy defense will. They’ve had a cupcake schedule so far.
ROMA was the team on the wrong end of that forfeit. With a win there they are tied for second. But they’re not. We call that deceiving folks. ROMA are better than their numbers suggest! Pedro and Kumbulla were sneaky good moves to balance out this team that looks to be strong enough for that 4th place finish they always seem to find a way to get.
After 2 games people were high on FIORENTINA.... despite a soul crushing loss to Inter, selling their best player, having a complete idiot for a coach and their second best player being an old French fellow that has now played 50 good minutes all season. Oh wait, I just got word that Castrovili is rumored to go to Juve in January....
The bottom ten teams get less words. My rules!
Over a year later and the only thing CAGLIARI has done to address the defense is build a retirement condo for Diego Godin. Good luck with that!
LAZIO has more guys out with Covid than goals scored. Good luck with that!
In 1983 the Denver Nuggets scored 184 points in a single basketball game and still lost. That’s the best analogy I could find for this current BENEVENTO group. Good luck with that!
SPEZIA’s Andrej Galabinov scored 3 goals in his first 2 games and then limped off after 20 minutes against Milan. I always have a soft spot for newly promoted teams so I really do wish him and his team good luck with that!
PARMA may have angered the gods by firing D’Aversa after he led them all they up from the 4th division. Good luck with that!
GENOA already beat the only team in the league worse than them in Crotone. They haven’t scored a goal since. They stink. Moving on...
Why in the world my buddy Mihajlovic keeps starting the 38 year old pony tail wonder at striker for BOLOGNA I have no idea. No one else does either. It’s like he’s trying to punish the other 10 players on the pitch. Good luck with that!
I can’t stand UDINESE. At least when Di Natale there they were fun. This is just ugly.
TORINO had the balls to hire Marco Giampaolo as coach after last years debacle at Milan. So far it’s going really well! Good luck with that!
(Ok they are actually showing some signs of life, it’s just that I really can’t stand Giampaolo)
At least CROTONE can say they managed a draw against Juventus. Good luck in Serie B next year!
It’s gonna be a really strange season folks.
Stay tuned!

Milan 3 Sparta Prague 0

Now here's a little story I've got to tell...
Nice win. Ratings!
TATARUSANU Clean sheet? Clean sheet. Important for him to get the start after Monday’s mess. 6.5
DALOT I know it’s a Europa game and all.... but that was damn near perfection. 9
R13 He was fine. 6.5
KJAER is still Danish for wall. But that wall needs a break. Just a little tired and sloppy at moments. 7
CALABRIA He was fine. 6.5
BENNACER One regular assist and one hockey assist. Also dominated. 8.5
TONALI Still looked like the guy that has us worried during the first half. Light bulb came on at halftime though. Much better after the break. These games are the perfect bridge from being the best player on a relegation side to being a solid contributor for us. Progress! 6/7.5
KRUNIC Not great but his energy is boundless. Flamini 2.0 without the cards. 6.5
DIAZ Started off great. Gorgeous touch and finish to start the scoring. Then kept going for 80 solid minutes. Love having players with something to prove. 8
CASTILLEJO Quickly dropping down the list of rotational players. Honestly can’t think of a single mid or forward that he is ahead of. Still nice to have to put out there for 80 minutes in these kind of games. 5.5
IBRA I think we can start resting him in these midweek games. Good effort lad. 7
Subs
LEAO Repeat after me: This is our vice Ibra. I really, really think up top is his spot. This cat slaps! 8
CONTI I mean.... yeah. Not sure the guy can run anymore. Yellow card waiting to happen. Gonna be out of football by the time he’s 28. 6
DUARTE He played. incomplete
KESSIE That’s no moon.....
... that’s our captain!
LITTLE MALDINI He played too!
Coach
PIOLI You sweet, beautiful master of squad rotation. Gimme a hug. 2 wins to start the group is wonderful. Should have no problem advancing now without killing ourselves.
Cheers
Lisi
