We never know what each other are going through, but one thing is for certain - we are all struggling, in one way or another.
The suffering we each experience is what connects us the most.
Our society conditions us to isolate ourselves to the point where we don’t think anyone else could ever possibly understand the experiences we’ve had to endure. We are taught to believe that we must be some kind of moral failure for experiencing hardship in life. We end up internalizing fallacious and self-harming narratives such as “I must have been a bad person in a past life to deserve this.” But that’s just not reality. In truth, we are all struggling.
No one is certain why they are here, and anyone who tells you otherwise with confidence is not someone to be trusted because they are either lying to themselves or trying to sell you something; a product, an idea, or a lifestyle.
The truth is, our shared experiences of pain and resilience serve as a powerful reminder of our humanity. When we acknowledge our struggles, we create space for empathy and understanding, bridging the gaps that societal conditioning has built between us. It is in our vulnerability that we find a profound connection with others, allowing us to see that we are not alone in our suffering. This shared understanding can be a source of strength and solidarity, empowering us to lift one another up, rather than remain isolated in our pain.
Community care can take many different forms, but the number one takeaway from any and every single liberation movement on the planet should be: care for yourself so that you can care for others and check in often with those whom you love and care about in this life. Mutual aid emerges from this foundational principle, recognizing that we are stronger together. It emphasizes the importance of collective support and shared resources, fostering an environment where individuals can lean on one another in times of need.
In a world that promotes individualism and competition, mutual aid serves as a radical act of solidarity. It reminds us that we are interconnected and that our well-being is intrinsically tied to the well-being of those around us. When we engage in mutual aid, we break down the barriers of isolation and stigma, cultivating a sense of belonging and community. We learn to listen, to share, and to uplift one another, creating networks of support that can withstand the pressures of a challenging world.
Recognizing our shared suffering can inspire us to create communities that prioritize care, compassion, and connection. By leaning into our collective experiences, we can foster resilience not only within ourselves but also within our communities. It is through this dedication to mutual aid and community care that we can begin to heal the wounds of isolation and build a more just and equitable society for all.
—
Check in often with the people you love and care about in this life.

Taking a little time to prepare for upcoming trunk shows and other events over this Labor Day weekend.. • • As I work, I’m reminded of a time, just four years ago, when I questioned my ability to create something long-lasting. Did I have enough talent? Did I have enough stamina? Could I navigate a life consisting of a full-time job as a quality director of a medical facility; a part-time job as an owner of a marriage and family therapist clinic; and a part-time job as a yarn dyer? I didn’t know if I could so I took it one day at a time.. • • My yarn, which is stacked on the faux wood shelves in front of me, represents so much more than just colorful strands of wool and wool blends. These Hanks of possibility are reminders of sacrifice, tenacity, and integrity. They are also reminders of anxiety, stress, and depression; of working when I want to sleep; sleeping when I should be working; chastising myself for not being good enough to keep up with the orders; traveling to places in my head that I don’t like to visit: “You’re not good enough”, “Look at how popular THEIR yarn is”; “That color looks so bad on that yarn, Christy, nobody is going to buy it”; “Why aren’t my sales as good today as they were yesterday?”; “What if I fail?”. • • Today is International Overdose Awareness Day. Addiction runs in my family. I have been surrounded by it my entire life, although I didn’t always know it. I have never been addicted to a drug or alcohol but that doesn’t mean I didn’t have the potential. I backed away from drugs and alcohol several years ago because I started to see that I had tendencies, and low self-esteem, that could put me in danger. Many friends and loved ones of mine did not have the same realizations. Overdoses happen everyday where I live and I have lost many friends to death by overdose. Addiction is easy to get into, but not so easy to get out of.. • • Today I’m remembering all the people I have lost. I’m also thinking of all of you who have had loss. Let’s practice more self-care today. And please remember, overdose is preventable, but it’s going to be a long journey. ❤️ #internationaloverdoseawarenessday #overdoseawareness #overdoseawarenessday https://www.instagram.com/p/B11ubPtJQt_/?igshid=1splmul32nrtc

Black Balloon Day… A moment of silence for all the still sick and suffering addicts and alcoholics, the families that are mourning the loss of a loved one to this disease, and for those who drank, used, or picked up for the first time today who didn’t know where it would lead them. Black Balloon Day has become a national and international event, bringing awareness to overdose deaths. It’s a day that families and loved ones pause to remember and celebrate the lives lost to overdose. On days like today, I remember to be extra grateful for my sobriety. So many of us try quit but cannot. I am among the lucky ones, and if you’re alive and reading this then you are too. I’m glad you’re here, and for those we’ve lost a long the way… you will be missed. 🖤💔🖤💔🖤💔🖤 • • • • #blackballoons #blackballoonday #blackballoon #addictionawareness #overdoseawareness #overdoseawarenessday #sober #sobriety #recoveryispossible #recoveryisreal #recoveryworks #odaat #inremembrance #momentofsilence #sobercommunity #recoverycommunity #sobersupport #addiction #addictionrecovery #march6th #soberinstagram #idontdrink #neverusealone #addictionisafamilydisease #nevergiveup #addictionsupport #addictionsucks #alcoholicsanonymous #friendsofbillw #recoveroutloud https://www.instagram.com/p/CpciOIAuP8U/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

To honor International Overdose Awareness Day (8.31) & National Recovery Month (September)...here's something that only my inner circle has seen. The image on the left was taken of me only minutes before my moment of surrender & the image on the right was taken just 75 days later! I choose to share the beginning of my journey into sobriety b/c WE DO RECOVER! When ”I” becomes “WE”, illness becomes wellness. The opposite of addiction isn’t sobriety…it’s connection! If you are struggling with addiction or mental health challenges, please know that you are not alone, that you are valued, & help is available! Today, I choose to stay on the path of recovery, be part of the solution, use my voice for those still fighting, & for those whose own voices were silenced too soon! Recovery is possible & if I can do it...you can too! #wedorecover #overdoseawareness #projectsemicolon https://www.instagram.com/p/Ch_Xx_MOgFe0c8ui9_sB8vj6UhBFKDaF3dCAgg0/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=
