Okay, I took a nap.

Here is something really heartening. Cranky Kong is confirmed. Holding a shovel with him. People with the Japanese Nintendo Today app saw him in slightly altered trailer.

Now I can't imagine he's going to be the only familiar character besides DK in this game. There's no way Cranky is here and not, at minimum, Diddy. But this is going to be a huge open world, you have to populate it with NPCs, so I fully expect to see even more.

And I don't think it will all be Kongs.

There is a village of Ostriches in the game. And this is not Expresso, but stylistically, it mostly matches with Expresso's mosty recent appearance as a trophy in Super Smash Bros for Wii U, albeig with a few little tweaks.

My guess is Expresso is somewhere in that village and we'll be reuniting with him, assuming this ins't a new look for Expresso that we're looking at in the screenshot. I feel like one of Nintendo's goals will be to inject a little more peresonality into some of the old characters who weren't Kongs, because let's be real, none of the Animal Buddies really had much personality to begin with.

Gnawty the beaver appears as some kind of treasure thing? This could be a meaningless easter egg, but you never know, the point is this is another sign that not all of Rare's contributions will be forgotten.

And here's the biggest copium of all.

For a game with all new antagonists who appear to be apes.... they're using an awful lot of Crocodile imagery... and specifically crocodile imagery where one eye is bigger than the other.... and a lot of emphasis on gold too. Like a certain someone's armor plated belly...

Okay okay, I might be getting my hopes up a little too much here. It could be japes. Very cruel japes. I mean did you see the amount of pig imagery in The Wind Waker, ESPECIALLY in Ganon's Tower, and they just pulled the rug out from under me with that "Tease" of Ganondorf transforming into a giant Demon only to give me a googly eyed pig marionette on string instead of my bad ass trident weilding pig wizard. Nintendo has done me dirty before.

But I do think it's possible that these new villains may not be the ones pulling the strings. Or, maybe the Kremlings aren't actually in the game, but this is going to tell us where they came from. A bit of a lore drop while these new villains are trying to move in on the Kremling relics left behind by K. Rool's ancestors.

Wishful thinking. But it does seem that Nintendo is being coy with whatever familiar elements are in the game.

So I don't want to say I'm in full on copium mode just yet, I do think all these signs are heartening.

Even if this is all bullshit and it's just Donkey Kong and Cranky in a completely unfamiliar land with unfamiliar characters, I'm sure it will be an astounding game, and right now, it's the only Nintendo Switch 2 game i'm dying to get my hands on.

Duty and Honor ~ 1302 ~

Regnold bursts into the house, his face radiant.

Regnold: Father, Mother! I’ve met someone! Her name is Adeliz, and she’s… she’s everything I’ve ever dreamed of! I’m going to ask her to marry me.

Isemay: (Smiling warmly) Regnold, that’s wonderful news, dear! Tell us everything. Who is she?

Leofred: (Chuckles) Hold your horses, son. Let the poor boy catch his breath. Marry her, you say? That's serious business.

Regnold: (Beaming) It is! I’m serious! I know it’s fast, but… when you know, you know, don’t you? Adeliz… her eyes are like the summer sky, and her laugh… it’s like music. I can’t imagine my life without her already.

Before Leofred and Isemay can respond, there are loud knocks at the door. Leofred frowns, moving to open it. He reveals Aemma’s father, a stern man with a cloud over his face. Aemma stands beside him, her head bowed, fiddling with the hem of her dress.

Leofred: (Surprised) Master Pereson? Aemma? What brings you here?

Aemma's Father: (Grimly) We need to speak with Regnold. Inside.

Leofred: Of course, of course. Come in, come in. What’s this about? Is something amiss?

Aemma and her father step inside. The atmosphere in the room shifts instantly. Regnold’s radiant smile falters, noticing Aemma’s distress and her father’s rigid posture.

Aemma's Father: (Planting himself firmly, looking directly at Regnold) Regnold, we need to talk. About Aemma.

Regnold: (Uneasily) About Aemma? Is everything alright, Aemma?

Isemay: (Concerned, stepping closer to Aemma) Are you well, dear? You look a little pale.

Aemma remains silent, tears welling in her eyes. Her father speaks for her, his voice heavy.

Aemma's Father: She’s with child, Leofred. Your grandchild. Regnold’s child.

The air in the room thickens, the joyous mood completely evaporated. Leofred and Isemay exchange stunned glances. Regnold’s face drains of color, his eyes fixed on Aemma in disbelief.

Regnold: What…? A child? But…

Aemma: (Tearfully, her voice barely a whisper) It’s true, Regnold.

Regnold stumbles back as if struck. He looks from Aemma to her father, and back to his own parents, his mind reeling.

Isemay, his mother, is utterly confused, and does not know how this has come about. Leofred, his father, takes a seat by the stove to think for a moment.

Leofred: (Turning to look at Regnold, his voice hardening, all previous warmth gone) You will do the right thing, son. There is only one right thing to be done here.

Regnold:  (Confused, desperately trying to grasp the situation) Right thing? But… Adeliz… I just told you, Father, I’m going to… I’m going to ask Adeliz to marry me!

Leofred stands and walks over to Regnold, arms crossed, looking very angry.

Leofred: (His voice rising, cutting off Regnold’s protest) Love is a luxury, Regnold. A luxury we cannot afford in this moment. Duty is a necessity. Family honor is a necessity. You made your bed with Aemma, now you will lie in it.

Isemay: (Softly, placing a hand on Leofred’s arm, though her gaze is firm on Regnold) Leofred is right, son. There are consequences to our actions. A child is coming, and we must think of them, and of Aemma’s reputation.

Leofred: (Pointing firmly at Aemma) You will marry Aemma. You will provide for your child. You will do your duty. That is the end of it. You will not see or talk of Adeliz anymore. You will definitely not see her before the wedding, we don't need to take care of any more mistakes right now.
