Another community lot for my Victorian England inspired save file, "Rule Simtannia", a vaction rental Alto Seaside lodgings. This once grand house was bought up by social climbers Vita and Nicholas Alto and cut up into several increasingly tinnier rooms. Despite the veneer of luxury, this is little more than a bed and breakfast but it still remains perfect for the newly emerging middle class to holiday in the city.

It was well past dark but still too early to yet be called morning. It was Zelda’s favorite time of day - somewhere between sunset and midnight, when the darkness had yet to become threatening, but most of the world was either asleep or in a quiet trance all their own. She was firmly lost in the latter - a book open by lamplight and the sound of croaking frogs to accompany each line. 

Just past her eyesight, the familiar feeling of light green eyes the exact shade as her own looked down on her. They kept her firmly tethered somewhere between the story and the present, the painting now a talisman of memory that usually brought her more comfort than pain. She flipped the page in front of her, setting it down quietly as her ears picked up the sound of footsteps on the front porch of their house.

For a split-second she thought that it must have been Antoine coming back inside after playing his guitar in the farmyard. He used to do that after a long day’s work - sitting in the light of a bonfire as the sun faded, losing track of time as the stars grew brighter and the notes came more easily. But he never did that anymore. He rarely even played at home now, and she knew that his guitar was tucked away in its case as he slept. So the sound echoing up the stairwell couldn’t be him. 

Panic fluttered Zelda’s heart, and she considered waking him; but then she instantly felt guilty. He had barely been home 48 hours, and she knew how utterly exhausted he was from their last trip. Two small, insistent knocks sounded on the front door. Against her better judgement, Zelda leapt to her feet. She crept silently down the stairs, her sole concern being that the knocks would sound again if she didn’t - only next time loud enough to wake her sleeping family.

As she emerged into the darkness of the kitchen a wave of relief flooded Zelda’s body. She could see now that the sound had come not from some nameless threat, but from a familiar face. She rushed to the door a bit faster, now alight with new worries that something else was amiss - something that would draw Josephine to the front door of a house she now rarely visited at half past eleven PM.

When she saw Zelda, a mirrored relief crept into Josephine’s eyes on the other side of the glass. Zelda opened the door standing between them, letting a cold gust of air into the warm farmhouse as she offered Jo a worried smile. “Are you alright? Has something happened?”

Jo waved her hand nonchalantly, raising her voice in pitch but not in volume. “No no, there’s nothing to worry over. Do you want a cigarette? I don’t want to wake them.”

Looking over her shoulder once more, Zelda angled the farmhouse door closed behind her and stepped one bare foot over the threshold to meet Jo outside. Then she followed her to the edge of the porch where she took two fresh cigarettes from the half empty pack stashed in her pocket. She passed one to Zelda wordlessly, turning back toward the horizon before Zelda could even take a drag. “So did he tell you about Los Angeles?”

The cigarette dangled forgotten and suspended in Zelda’s hand. She could feel the acid start to turn in her stomach as her mind began to race. “He did. Is - is everything alright?”

“Is he going to come?”

Zelda was well used to how bluntly Jo often spoke. Even still, she was taken aback by her question, uttered with little to no hesitation in the cold darkness of the sheltered porch of her house. “He - he said he doesn’t know. The money is good but - but the loan isn’t a danger anymore and he said he could just go back to your first tour. Hosa’s bars. Stay close. Play a couple weeks a year…”

The unsmoked cigarettes in each of their hands had seemingly been forgotten. Concentrated intensity flooded Jo’s green eyes, and she locked them on Zelda’s so intently that she couldn’t possibly look away. “Zelda, listen to me. I need you to talk to him, alright?”

“What? Me? Why? I -”

Jo spoke quickly, putting a comforting hand on Zelda’s shoulder and ignoring the twisting in her stomach that was begging her to walk away and follow her own path. “He’s worried about you, okay? About leaving so long and taking the deal. You have to talk to him. If not he’ll say no and regret it his whole life.”

She could practically feel the ribbons spilling out her mouth, weaving around them both with a fervent finesse. “Is that how you want him to live? With regret? Never knowing what he could have been? And listen, I know it’s a lot to put on you but he can’t know why you’re asking or that I talked to you. If he does he’ll be afraid that you’re doing it just for him and not yourself, and then he’ll say no all the same. I know my brother. Months, years will go by and then he’ll come to realize that he never got to know. He’ll regret it. He will. You have to at least give him the chance.”

Zelda was silent, trying desperately to think of anything to say. She knew that he was worried. Of course he had told her, just as he had told her about the deal and his desires to come back home. But was he really just saying no only for her sake? What sort of regret and resentment would he hold for her then? What kind of life would they find themselves living at fifty when he woke up and realized the woman sleeping beside him was the same one holding him back? What kind of wife would she be, what kind of woman -

“Zelda…” Jo’s voice interrupted her spiraling like a splash of ice water thrown in her face. “Listen to me, please. You can trust me, I promise. I would never lead you astray. I’m your sister.”

The world felt like it tilted, the patined eyes of a decades old painting taking on an olive green hue as the ones presently gazing at her became paler in the moonlight. She looked down into them, her own eyes flickering back and forth as she searched them for some sign of comfort and right and good as her mind straddled a gauzy limbo between the present and past.

“Okay.” There was a certain guilt ridden tremor in her voice as she looked back out toward the horizon. It began to blur through her tears and took her attention away from the eyes still staring at her intensely. Unseen in the corner of her eye, they narrowed as though in victory.

My sister. “I’ll talk to him. For you. I promise.”

Annie - A BGC Simblreen Collection

The 1982 version of Annie starring Aileen Quinn was one of my favorite movies growing up. All of us kids in the neighborhood spent countless hours acting the story out, and I'm pretty sure I still have the soundtrack memorized to this day.

You may be wondering why I did not make the outfit Annie wore while she lived at the orphanage. The reason I chose these four in particular is because they were featured in a 1982 Sears catalog. Girls could choose outfits inspired by the movie, or contemporary ones with the Annie logo.

All items are in my Combined Diary palette with a few swatches added or removed. The movie dress is a mesh edit of @linzlu's Samantha collection. There is some weird texture on the fingernails. This comes from the original mesh, and shouldn’t be very visible. The sailor dress uses a collar from @waxesnostalgic.

TS4 CC Download - Waterfall Bedroom

This has been a long time in the making, and I'm really proud of how it's turned out. The main inspiration for Waterfall Bedroom came from The Sims 1 Superstar expansion - after recreating the Art Deco-style dresser, I wanted to carry on, and so this whole suite was born. I always loved the American furniture from the 1920s and 1930s that appeared in previous iterations of Sims games, and especially as made by the custom content creators of the 00s. Nothing quite the same ever arrived with The Sims 4, so this is my attempt at filling that niche. There's a UK-specific nod here too though, in the form of the tiled fireplace, which can still be found in bedrooms all over the country. I hope you enjoy!

Decades Challenge Lookbook - Maternity

Hey - what's up? I am super duper pregnant myself, so here is a lookbook of maternity fashion through the decades that I was inspired to create while I wait for this baby to arrive.

Maternity fashion over the last 100+ years oscilated between 'don't let them see you're pregnant, gross' to 'show off that bump, populate or perish!'.

Hi! Today, I’m sharing a list of mods that I consider essential for playing historical gameplay in The Sims.

I often have friends who want to dive into the Decades Challenge but aren’t sure which mods to use or where to start. So, in this post, I’m going to share the mods I personally use and think are indispensable for creating that authentic historical experience.

Deaderpool's MC Command Center: This mod allows you to manage and modify many aspects of your game, including handling pregnancies, university careers, and enabling teen relationships so your Sims can marry earlier, among other features. You can also enable autosave and adjust the length of a Sim day.

Lumpinou's RPO: This mod enhances relationship dynamics and expands pregnancy features. It's extensive, with many modules, and once you've tried it, you won't want to play without it.

Pandasama's Realistic Childbirth: Offers multiple realistic childbirth options, including natural bed births and spontaneous labour, adding depth to your Sims' family lives.

MizoreYukii's Arranged Marriages: Allows you to arrange marriages for convenience. Parents can agree on marriages for their children, but breaking the arrangement won’t be easy.

Necrodog's Carriages and Horses: Adds functional carriages, enhancing immersion. While it doesn't work with the horses of Horse Ranch pack, it’s still incredibly useful.

Kuttoe's Enlist in War: It will allow your Sims to enlist in the war. Whether they live or die will be random, but if they survive, they'll receive the Veteran trait, a lifetime pension and some lasting traumas.

JaneSimsten's Regency Romance: Perfect for simulating the Regency era. It adds class differences, property ownership, etiquette skills, new traits and careers, events, and widowhood. Though inspired by the Regency era, it works well for later decades too.

SimKatu's Reading Animation Override: Changes the reading animations, with different ones for men and women, making your Sims’ reading time more immersive.

Zero's Deadly Dickensian Sicknesses: Introduces the risk of diseases like Tuberculosis, Typhoid Fever, and Cholera. It’s incredibly realistic with its contagion system.

Adeepindigo's Healthcare Redux: A comprehensive health mod that adds various illnesses and treatments, including tuberculosis and (early access) cancer. While Sims can buy modern medicines, many illnesses can be cured with natural remedies.

Adeepindigo's Simulated Endings: This mod will enhance everything related to your Sims' deaths, allowing them to take out life insurance and designate beneficiaries, arrange funeral preparations, and introduce stages of grief for your Sims.

MizoreYukii's Functional Broom: Adds a functional broom with its own animation, letting you keep your Sims’ homes clean without resorting to modern vacuums.

Triplis's Quit or Join School: In case you need your teens or childs to quit school.

The Kalino's Farm Animal Set: Expands your farm with more animals, including goats, sheep, ducks and more, in addition to the standard cows and chickens.

JaneSimsten's Write With Quills: Replaces your Sims' pens with quills, adding a touch of historical accuracy.

JaneSimsten's Sidesaddle Override: Allows female Sims to ride horses sidesaddle, as they would have in the past.

JaneSimsten's Parchment Computer: Replaces modern computers with parchment and quills, complete with their own animations—perfect for pre-typewriter eras.

Frankk's Language Barriers: More realism to sims being from different worlds.

Rs4ella's 1920s Grade School Homework Override: Changes the look of the kids' homework book to a 1920s style, but it works well for earlier periods too.

Xbrilliantsims's Toddler Bathtime Overrides: Replaces modern bath toys and sponges with more era-appropriate items when bathing toddlers.

Lunamoth's Historical Infant Carriers: Swaps out modern baby carriers for fabric slings, suitable for any historical era.

Lunamoth's Rope Pet Leash: Replaces the modern pet leash with a simple rope, making it look more appropriate for historical gameplay.

300yearschallenge's Historical Baby Bath Override: Changes the baby bath seat to a more suitable design, or you can opt for

Sassymissollie's Invisible Infant Bath Seat to remove it entirely.

JaneSimsten's 5 Day Work Week: Choose Your Own Work Hours: Lets you adjust your Sims' work schedules for a more realistic experience.

JaneSimsten's Marksmanship Skill: Adds a marksmanship skill, allowing your Sims to practise shooting and hunting, with the hunted animals available for cooking.

Littlbowbub's Ye Olde Cookbook: Enables your Sims to cook historical dishes, perfect for low-income Sims in older settings.

Basemental's Basemental Drugs: Although mainly known for adding drugs, it’s commonly used for its smoking features, letting your Sims smoke cigarettes and cigars like a proper Victorian gentleman.

MizoreYukii's Children/Toddlers Can Die of Anything: Allows your child Sims to die, useful if your storyline requires it.

Ayoshi's Phone to Notebook Replacement Mod: If phone elimination mods are causing issues, this mod might help. It replaces the mobile phone with a small notebook, which could pass for a mini Bible or an old-fashioned notebook.

JaneSimsten's Extra Cross-Stitch Patterns: Adds historically accurate cross-stitch patterns.

Almanara Castle, Historical Landmark in Tatrosa | Museum and Wedding Venue (NO CC)

The Almanara Castle (Also known as "Almanara Al-Tartos", or "Alcazar of Tartosa")

Almanara Castle, once part of the grand Qasr Al-Zayl al-Tartos, was the last refuge of Emir Jabar Al-Tartozi II before the fall of the Emirate of Tartosa in 1497. Spared after the siege, it later became a royal villa and was declared a cultural heritage site in 1876. Now a museum and wedding venue, Almanara offers a glimpse into Tartosa’s past with stunning coastal views.

Lesmana Enterprise led the restoration efforts after the 2021 Tartosa earthquake which damaged the castle, restoring it to its former glory.

The Last of its Kind in Tartosa

This picturesque castle was built in the late 14th century during the early years of the Tartosan Emirate rule by Al-Simhara sulanate engineers.

Its arabesque-moorish architecture is a reminder of a much more different, by-gone era of Tartosa's deep history.

Well Preserved, As if it was Built Yesterday

Our team of highly skilled engineers, historians, craftspeople, and archeologists ensures that the Almanara Castle retains its charm for centuries to come.

From intricate archway designs, geometric tileworks, centuries-old plasters, to water features that had worked for the past 600 years without the use of eletricity, we made sure visitors would experience Almanara Castle the way the Emirs of Tartosa and his royal court had experienced it centuries ago.

The Hall of Jenane

During the rule of Emir Hamid I (AD 1401-1429), Almanara Castle was repurposed as a private quarter of his daughter Amirah Jenane Al-Munr, who added more geometric tilework to the castle, adorned in her favorite azure and tosca colors to every edge of the estate.

In 1415, Amirah Jenane had her wedding in this very hall, where dignitaries from neighboring kingdoms like Kingdom of Windenburg, Grand Duchy of Champ-les-sims, and even norther simlandic kingdoms were invited to attend.

Today, the hall of Jenane becomes an exhibition hall that displays the collections of Amirah Jenane, where centuries-old potteries from different parts of the world can be seen, showing the Amirah's love for future generations who visits the castle.

Also, just like Amirah Jenane, you can experience becoming an Emirate royal by having your wedding in this hall too, by arranging the dates from the Museum's website.

The Emir's Exhibition

On the second floor of the main keep, you can find an exhibition of the Emir Jabar II's personal belongings such as weapons, books, and tapestries.

Pieces like the Emir's silver sword crafted by a Ravenwood master blacksmith, or the Emir's Gunpowder-powered broom crafted by a Glimmerbrook 15th century famed gunsmith-warlock is diplayed in this room.

The Azure Sanctum

In the castle's subterrane, is a breathtaking hall called the "Azure Sanctum", a hall with and endless arrangement of pillars and arches adorned in the finest lazuardi tiles and gemstones, with a fountain that had been running for centuries without the help of electricity.

According to historians' records, the Azure Sanctum used to be a place where the Royals would lounge during the hot Tartosan summer, as this room is proven to be -5 to -7 degrees celcius cooler than the air outside.

Now, the Azure sanctum serves as an exhibition hall for wall decorations and the famed "Scales of righteousness", a golden scale used widely in the Tartosan Emirate's Al-Simharan justice system in the medieval era.

🪻Foxglove Farm: A Decades Challenge Home 🪻

Have your legacy sims outgrown their simple starter home? Do they long for greener pastures or a fresh start in a new decade? Complete with a stable, nectar cellar, large farming enclosure, two animal paddocks, and a fishing pond, Foxglove Farm is a turn of the century dream! Inside are two modern bathrooms (the luxury!), an office, a nursery, three bedrooms, and all the activities a growing historical family might enjoy.

This house is designed to be accurate(ish) to the 1900s/1910s, as it’s meant to be a companion to my 1890s Decades Challenge Starter. Of course it can be also used for all decades or any style of gameplay, and I personally think it would make a fun “old” fixer upper for my modern babes!

In The Family Way - A Medieval Pregnancy Kit For Pandasama's Realistic Childbirth Mod

I love a good historical gameplay, and I love Pandasama's Realistic Childbirth Mod. However, for obvious reasons that mod is heavily Modern Era™-coded. But I felt as though there were elements to the mod that could be adapted to my favorite kind of gameplay. This little kit is the result of that feeling. Find the items easily by searching for either [scandisim] or Pandasama in Build/Buy. Please keep in mind before reading any further that none of these work without the original mod by Pandasama, will not even show up in game without the original mod, and all credit for the mod and original items goes to them!
