When season 4 came out, I had only seen a few episodes of season 1 and I wasn't interested. Up until friends from the PoP!cast started talking about it every week and how great it was. So I netflixed seasons 1 through 3 and then caught reruns of season 4 on Showtime and I was hooked.
Season 4 however was the Trinity Killer and it's what hooked me into going back to the beginning and watching them again.
Kills and Blood Slides:
Trinity Killer: 279 Confirmed Kills
Dexter up til the end of season 4: 96
Shocking Moment: The end of season 4, the bathtub. Dexter's toddler son in a pool of his own mother's blood.
Okay, so Dexter is not horror, but he is a serial killer slasher and has a kill table and is one of my favorites along with the first 5 seasons of Supernatural, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Angel, and Teen Wolf nowadays due to its beastiary content.
The New Yorker's Emily Nussbaum called Lithgow's characterization of Arthur as "so creepy I’m still not over it" in 2011 and also said the character was "modeled on the BTK Killer".
Dexter Facts
Dexter has killed about 117 people according to the Dexter Wiki. He had 45 blood slides in his first box before it was destroyed and now has about 43 slides in his new box. There were also 20 or so victims from whom he didn't collect blood.
Series star Michael C. Hall revealed he was afflicted with Hodgkin's lymphoma in January 2010, but continued to work on the series. Most of his fellow cast members were surprised by the news, because he had not disclosed his condition during production. Hall is, as of mid-2010, in remission.
The name of the main character, "Dexter," is also a Latin word meaning "right hand." The implied complement is the Latin for "left hand," "sinister," reflecting his hidden dark side. In 2010 author Jeff Lindsay confirmed at a book signing in Edinburgh that he chose the name Dexter because it was the opposite of "sinister", reflecting the character's surface normality.
Jennifer Carpenter's Debra uses more expletives in any given episode than all of her male colleagues combined. AND WE LOVE HER FOR THAT
One aspect of the Trinity killer parallels the BTK killer. Dennis Rader maintained a very normal family life and was very active in the Christ Lutheran Church in Park City, KS. Among many positions, he was a deacon and congregation president and Cub Scout leader. Ironically, it was his use of a church computer to communicate with authorities that led to his arrest.
Director/producer Michael Cuesta initially approached a pre-The Hurt Locker (2008) Jeremy Renner to play Dexter, but Renner declined the part as he felt he could not play another serial killer again after playing Jeffrey Dahmer in Dahmer (2002).
Composer Daniel Licht initially wrote Dexter's theme song as part of the score for the horror anthology movie Necronomicon: Book of Dead (1993).
Dexter frequently uses aliases that make reference to Bret Easton Ellis books and their film adaptations. These include using "Patrick Bateman" (the main character from American Psycho (2000)) when buying tranquilizers and "Sean Ellis" (reference to both Ellis and Sean Bateman - from The Rules of Attraction (2002)) when seeing a psychiatrist.

PENNY DREADFUL: GLORIOUS HORRORS SEASON 2 EPISODE 6

..............GLORIOUS HORRORS..................... ..............SEASON 2 EPISODE 6.....................
896-1-3 GLORIOUS HORROS SOURCE: Penny Dreadful Season 2 FUENTE DE INSPIRACION: aqua-regia009 y amatesura
Penny Dreadful is a horror drama 3 season television series created by John Logan.
Explorer Sir Malcolm Murray, American gunslinger Ethan Chandler, scientist Victor Frankenstein and medium Vanessa Ives unite to combat supernatural threats in Victorian London. Penny Dreadful (TV series) - Wikipedia
IMdB: 8'2 DRAMA / FANTASY / HORROR S1E06
9861-1 https://ok.ru/video/7479763929651
The title refers to the penny dreadfuls, a type of 19th-century British fiction publication with lurid and sensational subject matter.

Penny dreadfuls were cheap popular serial literature produced during the 19th century in the United Kingdom. The pejorative term is roughly interchangeable with penny horrible, penny awful, and penny blood. The term typically referred to a story published in weekly parts of 8 to 16 pages, each costing one penny. The subject matter of these stories was typically sensational, focusing on the exploits of detectives, criminals, or supernatural entities. First published in the 1830s, penny dreadfuls featured characters such as Sweeney Todd, Dick Turpin, Varney the Vampire, and Spring-heeled Jack.
The series draws upon many public domain characters from 19th-century Victorian Gothic fiction, including Dorian Gray from Oscar Wilde's The Picture of Dorian Gray; Mina Harker, Abraham Van Helsing, John Seward, Renfield, and Count Dracula from Bram Stoker's Dracula; Victor Frankenstein and his monster from Mary Shelley's Frankenstein; and Henry Jekyll from Robert Louis Stevenson's Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde, showing their origin stories as an explorer searches for his daughter. Justine from Justine, or The Misfortunes of Virtue by the Marquis de Sade also appears.
A spin-off series, Penny Dreadful: City of Angels, aired from April 26 to June 28, 2020.

Los Angeles, 1938. LAPD detective Tiago Vega and his partner, Lewis Michener, investigate a murder. While at City Hall, Tiago’s activist brother Raul Vega battles with the fiery Councilman Charlton Townsend over the construction of California’s first freeway. Meanwhile, Peter Craft, the head of the German-American Bun, meets Elsa, the mysterious mother of one of his patients. Sensing danger, Tiago’s mother Maria pleads with Santa Muerte to protect her family as the rising tensions in the city threaten to explode.
From only one episode I will say this has potential. Its a solid enseble cast featuring the likes of Nathan Lane, Natalie Dormer and Brent Spiner. Solid performances from the entire cast. Well shot and the story has just enough intruigue to bring you back for at least the next episode. I have spent a lot longer with far worse entertainment in my day. Plus with everything going on in the world right now we may have to accept the reality that we are about to enter into an entertainment drought. So a show like this might be the drink we need to tide us over. More analysis needed but it looks promising so far.

Penny Dreadful: City of Angels / Season 1 | Episode 5 « Children of the Royal Sun
"It's time to purge. Good-bye to the blood of your enemy. To hiding your pride and your power. Good-bye to your weak and worthless gods. We are the sons and daughters of Tenochtitlan. We sacrificed human hearts to the sun to quench the thirst of the sky, unconquerable for a thousand years. And then another world, in floating mountains from Spain, with thunder in their Gospels and hot slaughter in their cannons, arrived on our shores, and the two worlds of the world met. Brown and white. Aztec and European. Hummingbird Wizard and Jesus. Malinche and the Virgin Mary. And they begat the children of the royal sun... whose manifestation is the royal Pachuco, whose coat of arms, whose profane declaration, whose poem to the ancestors, are the holy drapes, the warrior's armor. And soon, you shall have yours. Mi querido amor."

About last night's episode of Penny Dreadful: City of Angels...
First off, I want to repeat what I've been saying for weeks now, and that's that people are sleeping on Tiago. Daniel Zovatto was amazing in that episode and he and Nathan Lane work really well together. I can't wait to see what these two get up to next.
But let's talk about the other stuff.
1 - Adan Rocha gave a fuckin' performance as Diego! Now I'm upset that we probably won't ever see him again. Though I will admit it was really hard to watch all of that in the precinct with everything going on in the United States right now.
2 - Sister Molly still confuses me. I can't get a solid read on her and that's worrying. And, of course, her creepy as hell mother, who we get contradictory accounts of. She's either an overbearing dragon lady/momager (á la Kris Jenner) or she's a stern yet loving mother encouraging her daughter's career. I admit I'm wary of them because of the whole Evangelical thing, but I still don't know how these two are going to play out.
3 - I'm sorry but I just don't care about Peter Craft, which is sad because Rory Kinnear is an amazing actor. His character this season is like the Dorian Grey of the original show, completely seperate from everyone else except for the tiniest connections. Yes, I knew I was going to avoid this character right off the bat because of the whole Nazi thing, but with what he did this episode, institutionalizing his wife so he can play house with Elsa... that's low. I know the whole point of "Elsa" is to just bring out the bad in him, but still...
4 - I know everyone is still riding the high of Mateo and Fly Rico, but I'm a little hesitant about them. Don't get me wrong, I'm happy they gave that to us, but Rico was so ready to let Diego swing for what Mateo did, that I'm sure when push comes to shove, he'll sell out Mateo, too. Yes, I'm pessimistic, but I would love to be proven wrong in the situation. Granted, given the material of the show, I'm not going to hold my breath for that to happen.
Also, in that scene, I want to talk about Mamá Vega. Maria was ready to throw down and whoop both Rio and Rico, you can't convince me otherwise. (I'd also pay good money to see that.) But that exchange between her and Mateo almost broke my heart. That woman so badly wants to protect her children and they just won't let her. I'm eagerly looking forward to her showdown with Magda next week.
5 - I don't care about Townsend's failed dreams or how good Kurt looks in a speedo, one's a Nazi and the other is a Nazi supporter. Though I will say I'm marginally more interested in them than I am with Craft.
In my humble opinion, this was the best episode of the season so far, because of the focus on Tiago and Lewis and the stellar acting of Daniel, Nathan and Adan.
#i really REALLY love this show#penny dreadful spoilers#penny dreadful city of angels#penny dreadful: city of angels

‘Penny Dreadful: City of Angels’ Season 1 Ep. 1 Review
Okay, so if you follow me you probably know I started this show for Dom Sherwood (Kurt) but I actually ended up really liking it!
The plot seems very interesting and the mythology seems very rich. I like how the characters are somehow connected and everything comes together.
I really enjoy it when this type of supernatural stuff is mixed in with the real world instead of existing in a separate world (like Harry Potter for example) so I’m quite excited!
That demon lady that Natalie Dormer plays is shady as fuck. I have to wonder what would happen if ‘Alex’ came across that doctor who treats the ‘son’ of her other personality. Side note, it was so weird how she absorbed that ‘child’. Gross.
I’m assuming she has been planning this whole thing for a while since she must have been working for Townsand for a while so it would be interesting to know why she chose those people specifically and how this whole thing unfolds.
The casual racism and hatred towards Mexicans is kind of shocking and uncomfortable to me. Also the Nazi stuff. Even more gross than the child absorbing.
I’m glad they didn’t make Lewis the typical white racist partner who gives the protagonist grief. It’s much more enjoyable to watch them be friendly towards each other and to be partners.
Speaking of protagonists, I really, really like Tiago. I think by the end of the episode he became my favorite character. He’s a very likable handsome protagonist. Flawed, but still easy to root for. I can understand his dilemma between wanting to be a cop and being a Mexican.
Also, I’m totally with the Mexicans on that whole highway debate with Townsand. I mean, these are their homes and workplaces. That’s definitely more important than some highway.
I do have to wonder if Tiago has powers like he mother. That would be interesting.
Another side note, the actress who plays Josefina is GORGEOUS.
We only got a glimpse of Kurt this episode, but your girl knows what’s coming and I cannot wait. Need me a Jalec AU where Jace is the assassin and Alec is the politician he has to ‘handle’.
HOLY SHIT I did not expect that ending!!! I suspected there would be some kind of confrontation between Tiago and Raul, but not THIS. BRB, gotta see if he’s dead or not.

TV Show Ask: 11, 13, 24, 40, 43
11. which TV show has the best musical soundtrack, in your opinion?
I… have no other choice but to say Doctor Who because that is literally the only TV show where I own the soundtrack, or well at least most of the modern series’ soundtrack? It’s great, brilliant background music, really.
13. what genre of TV show is your favourite?
SUPERNATURAL. Pack that bitch full with witches, vampires or werewolves and you have me hooked! Shows with supernatural elements are the best. *^*
24. how do you feel about bottle episodes?
Well, I had to look that one up. And… I don’t think I understand it. So… I can’t… give an example? Like, Wikipedia lists Doctor Who’s Midnight as an example, but like that contradicts basically everything the beginning of the article says because it has a damn large amount of non-regular characters, it’s on a freaking diamond planet spa so like I don’t see how that is cheap and the train was a whole new set too, like if you’d give me an episode as an example where it’s only the regular characters locked into a small space or whatever, but this is… not… what you said it is, Wikipedia, stop confusing me. *blinks*
Sooo, I don’t know what this is and thus don’t have an opinion on it…
40. is there a show coming out soon that you’re really excited about?
Oh yeah! His Dark Materials, which while I only got interested it in for the promise of Lin-Manuel Miranda, I later learned was actually just The Golden Compass and that was an interesting concept, far as I recall the movie so I’m looking forward to seeing the reboot!
Of course Penny Dreadful: City of Angels because I miss Dominic Sherwood a lot. Also it’s a supernatural show and I love those so that has me eager!
43. what do you think is a good amount of seasons for a TV show?
That can’t be said just like that. I think it entirely depends on the show. Like, Buffy with its seven seasons was perfect as was. If a show like say Shadowhunters would have had seven seasons, I think it would have overstayed because with six books in the main series I think that show should have had six seasons, one per book (which would have also helped with the pacing!).
Killjoys was perfect with the five seasons it had though and if you’d have slapped one or more seasons onto that, it’d have been stretched too thin.
I think the perfect amount of seasons is when a show comes to its natural end. There is this one big thread that goes through the whole show? Show should end when that is taken care of - like Killjoys did, or to contrast it, like Stargate SG-1 didn’t which should have ended two seasons earlier, because after the one big bad to then slap-dash two more seasons with a new, uninteresting big bad on is just… not good.
If you have a book series you’re adapting, I think it makes perfect sense to give each book one season. Like, the ideal Percy Jackson adaptation would be a ten season thing spanning PJO and HoO and then ending, because those are the ones focusing on Percy; I’m not just saying that because I’m not reading ToA myself, but because it shifts its focus and if anything should be a spin-off, not part of the actual series.
So, too individual a thing to decide for every show.
But… I generally think that no TV show ever should stay longer than 10 seasons because that’s 10 years. Like… Doctor Who is a major exception because it regenerates; not just the Doctor does but generally, due to the change of actors, it changes the energy and shifts gears. Regular shows where such a replacement of cast isn’t a natural part of the show? Watching the same characters go through the same motions for over ten years…? Has not worked once, in my experience.

Trends: The Musical
Former/ current series in this genre, on the networks:
Glee (2009-2015)
Nashville (2012-2018)
Smash (2012-2013)
Crazy Ex-Girlfriend (2015-2019)
Empire (2015-) and Star (2016-)
Last season, FOX ordered to pilot musical Mixtape (Wikipedia), a contemporary romantic drama set in Los Angeles that seemed somewhat inspired by the 2016 Academy Award-winning film La La Land. The creator and showrunner, Joshua Safran, previously showran for Smash’s 2nd season. After FOX passed on the pilot in May, Netflix ordered a ten-episode first season in July. They retained Callie Hernandez as the female lead, and in December 2018 recast the male lead with Paul James. No premiere date has been announced. Netflix previously had one-season musical series The Get Down and it’s also expected that upcoming series The Politician (from Glee’s creators) will be a musical.
This season, as Crazy Ex-Girlfriend on the CW approaches its series finale after a critically-acclaimed run, there are three musical series in development:
Perfect Harmony from NBC
Katy Keene from the CW- inspired by the Archie comics
Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist from NBC
PERFECT HARMONY is a half-hour single-camera comedy, in which a rural church choir gets the director it never thought it needed when a salty, Ivy League music professor (played by Bradley Whitford) stumbles through their door. The female lead, the former de facto choir leader, will be played by Anna Camp, of Pitch Perfect fame (the actress also guest-starred in a season 1 episode of Glee). One executive producer on the series is Adam Anders, who was the executive music producer on Glee. This series may bring to mind the 2012 film Joyful Noise, which starred Queen Latifah, Dolly Parton, Keke Palmer, and Jeremy Jordan. *This show was previously titled All Together Now.
KATY KEENE is an hourlong dramedy and spin-off of the CW’s top-rating Riverdale- like the mother show, it is in inspired by characters from the Archie comics. Although the titular lead, Katy Keene, is a fashion designer, the show will be about four twenty-something aspiring artists in New York City, trying to make it on Broadway, on the runway and in the recording studio. If the series is picked up to series, then Ashleigh Murray (who has played Josie McCoy on a regular basis since Riverdale premiered in 2017) will move to Katy Keene in the role, as her character pursues her recording dreams of being the next Diana Ross. Characters such as the Cabot twins, Alexandra and Alexander (played by Camille Hyde and recording artist Lucien Laviscount respectively) will be involved in the recording industry (and Alexander will be a dive club DJ), while other series regular Jorge Lopez will be an aspiring Broadway star, and a Drag Queen as his alter ego, Ginger (the character will be played by Jonny Beauchamp of Penny Dreadful fame). The series was co-created, and the pilot co-written, by Riverdale producers Robert Aguirre-Sacasa and Michael Grassi, the former of whom was a writer and co-producer on Glee for seasons 3-5 and who showruns for fellow Riverdale spin-off The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina on Netflix (he wrote the comics it is based on).
ZOEY’S EXTRAORDINARY PLAYLIST is an hourlong dramedy. It will star Jane Levy (Suborgatory) as Zoey, who is suddenly able to hear the innermost thoughts of people around her as songs and even big musical numbers that they perform just for her. With this new ability at her disposal, she is able to use her “gift” to not only help herself understand people in her life, but also to help others around her. Mary Steenburgen, who is married to NBC The Good Place’s star Ted Danson but also an accomplished comedic actress in her own right and a songwriter for Universal Music since 2017, will play Zoey’s mother. The series will also co-star Skylar Astin - who co-starred in Pitch Perfect (with his wife Anna Camp, mentioned above) and is in the final season of Crazy Ex-Girlfriend in a major role- and Alex Newell, of Glee fame. Tonally, the show has been compared to What Women Want (a 2000 romantic comedy film starring Helen Hunt, which was recently remade as What Men Want with Taraji P. Henson) meets La La Land. The premise has also been compared by some to a 2015 NBC pilot Tuned, from Deborah Kaplan and Harry Elfont, which starred Zachary Levi (Tangled).

Penny Dreadful: City of Angels / Season 1 | Episode 2 « Dead People Lie Down
"The city of Los Angeles has never lost four police officers in a single day. The animals that assassinated Officer West and his brothers must be brought to justice, for this city can no longer live under the shadow of their anarchy. They fired first. They shot our boys down in cold blood. They had no mercy, and we can show none to them. Let every Mexican in Los Angeles know this will not stand. And what was the cause? Why did they kill Officer West? Why did they leave Nicholas without a father? Not for money, not for food. They did it because of a road. A motorway they don't like. Well, I say that very road must now be a symbol of something larger. It is our golden pathway to the future, and no pack of dogs will stop it. Tomorrow I will introduce a motion in the City Council to rename it the Maynard West Memorial Motorway. For Officer West, for all of us. I will build this road. I will build this road!"
