WIP Wednesday - 4/20 fic

Yup, I'm going with it. (see the post previous to this one.)

Set very shortly after Jason is forcibly retired from football due to blowing his knee (torn ACL/MCL/meniscus all in the same injury, yeeowch).

"I call this strain 'blue chocolate chip cookies'," Grover announces, beaming widely as he sits on his bed and loads up his tabletop vaporizer. "It's a hybrid of blueberry kush for anxiety, GSC for pain and a little chocolope for energy. Paul, you're gonna want to be careful; this stuff is medical grade. A hit or two should do you."

"Noted," Paul replies from where he's sitting on the floor with his legs pretzeled, a distinctly gleeful note to his voice. "The last time I partook was with my college boyfriend, which was, oh, fifteen years ago? I was planning to go slow anyway." 

The enthusiasm seems to be making Jason feel better— at least he's not the only newbie in the room, although he is the only true pot virgin, and he's a little self-conscious about it. 

"You might not get stoned the first time," Percy warns him, watching as Grover presses down the fragrant plant material. "I didn't. The second time, it hit me like a battering ram and I ended up in this very room eating cold tomato soup directly from the can, which was a religious experience in my blitzed state." 

"That's why I'm here," says Percy's mom, smiling from her corner of the room. "Munchie patrol." 

"You're also here to make sure nobody goes streaking in Times Square," Jason points out, the first joke he's made in a while. 

She must find it a relief the same way Percy does, because she bursts into laughter as she gets up and heads for the kitchen. 

"That too. Have fun, boys. I'm going to start the fettuccine." 

She switches on the air purifier and shuts the door behind herself. Percy stuffs a towel underneath it and cracks a window, and Grover fires up the vaporizer. 

"Pain level, scale of one to ten, one being 'I might just need to sneeze' and ten being 'I need an ambulance immediately'?" he asks Jason, calm and practiced— he's used to this, which makes Percy's heart hurt almost as much as Grover's legs do when it rains. 

Jason thinks about it for a moment. He's tense and pale, which can't mean anything good. 

"Seven," he answers finally, shifting his leg. He winces, and Percy winces with him. "Bad idea. Eight." 

"Babe…"

It comes out soft and plaintive. Jason tries to smile, like he wants to be reassuring, but it looks more like a rictus grin.

Announcement: The Gold-Stone Concordance(GSC)

It is time.

After months of preparing, setback after setback, naysayer after naysayer, the time has finally come - all of our efforts, all of the gold, all of the relations we have gathered and built. Until now my promises to aid the community have been minor: donating what medical supplies we could, sending donations to the front, aiding any organization dedicated to fighting the Legion... Now we can truly make a difference. This War will and has put every engagement to shame in scale, severity, and desperation - and we of Azeroth are tired of looking over our shoulders, or peering into the darkest corners with paranoia.

It is in this time that the Legion will learn fear - and we of Azeroth will be their first nightmare.

This war, this Crusade will not be won by sword, bow, and spell alone - but with careful, calculated thought. It is only now that all our relations come together; our desires not for coinage or profit - but to aid one’s country - nay world!

And so I say with extended palm, join us. Aid your people, your country, your world - or forever live in regret, and doubt, or should we lose: in pained remorse.

Though it is true I am not a skilled soldier, some may even call me a coward - it is truer still that the braveheart at the front cannot fight the Demons with his bare hands! The archer that finds his quiver empty will be vanquished, and the medic without a roll of bandages will watch another friend pass to a wicked wound of the Hellspawn.

It is with this in mind that I present to the Alliance and the whole of Azeroth:

The Gold-Stone Concordance

Every crafter, every merchant, every trader with ship or wagon - every man, woman, and child able and willing to pick up a blacksmith’s hammer, carry a crate, or file paperwork; we call to you.

We want YOU to aid our Soldiers, the Alliance, and Azeroth!

It is with our logistics that we can make sure casualties are limited, that every soldier has a weapon, that all the wounded have medical supplies - and the Alliance economy grows in a time of desperation; giving us more supplies and boosting an already dire moral.

For Family, for Kingdom, for the Alliance, and for Azeroth!

Hello-hello! Elstine here, finally revealing our big surprise to the general public. It has been a long time coming, months and months of gathering IC resources, creating IC contacts, and scheduling - but the time is finally here.

It is time.

The Gold-Stone Concordance is a multi-individual, multi-guild, multi-organization IC and OOC collaboration designed to help bolster the merchant, civilian, trader, and crafter portions of Roleplay, while simultaneously supporting and encouraging all the wonderful groups supporting the Soldiers, or roleplaying as the Soldiers fighting against the Legion.

Let me be clear; you do not have to be a part of any guild to work with us!

The idea is a simple one: a soldier can only fight so many demons bare handed.

The Army is in desperate need of concrete supply lines, that are otherwise and currently under consistent assault by Legion skirmishers. As many of you know supply lines are vital in war times - WW2 was largely won due to the vast amount of supplies able to be produced and supplied by the West, where as Nazi forces were largely crushed in the East due to their lack of supplies; such is only one War example out of easily thousands.

So now for our typical Q/A.

1. Why is this a good thing? For a lot of reasons. It inspires more roleplay in theoretical every category - from Noble House to budding alchemist shop, to massive Dwarven Clan to a simple scribe, to a soldier on the frontline to a caravan trader.

It is an effort to create and hold loosely together a coalition of many individuals, guilds, and groups and have us all working together either first hand, or through the background. A Soldier may never learn who’s store made the bandage that saved his life - but the bandage was still there.

It adds a depth of reality; not everyone wants that - but many do. There is a craving for reason, for answers - more importantly, there is a craving for socializing. All and all it is far more satisfying to get your supplies delivered by an actual trader than a nameless NPC. In addition it adds cause and effect scenarios - if a caravan -doesn’t- make it to its destination that can cause a dramatic domino effect that may have otherwise never happened with an NPC Supply Line.

There’s a lot of course.

2. What’s the bad side?

No, but really. Potentially? Nothing - This isn't an opt-in (All roleplay is opt-in, jeeze.) this is an invite-only type situation, it is an Alliance, a Concordance, a League; can you do all of this on your own? By all means, I encourage it. But, it being an invite only it allows us to retain OOC control - preventing any power hungry hungry hippos from doing something stupid that’d break up a good thing. We retain OOC control to make sure things are fair, balanced, consistent, and over all work like a well-oiled machine.

The worst thing that can happen is the trade league dissolves.

3. Who all is invited to this group?

There's a lot of people and not enough time to talk to all the peeps, but we have tried to talk with and will still be talking to folks; but the fact of the matter is we won't hit everyone up and most likely it's not for any reason other than we haven't heard of your group, or yourself - or we haven't had time to hit you up yet.

That being said: Merchants, Traders, Salesman, Caravaners, Pirates, Ship People, Soldier Groups, Mercenaries, Crafters, Crafters, Crafters, Stores, people/groups with Resources such as Iron, Wood, Food, Scribes, Civilians, People looking for work, new roleplayers, old roleplayers, Houses, Clans, Tribes,  etc.

Pretty much the only reason you wouldn't be brought in is if you had an IC reputation of being a bad guy or if current members overwhelmingly have had issues with you on an OOC level.

4. So what’s the general plan?

Very glad you asked, Thomas.

For hopeful simplicity we will break it down as such:

A = Resource Heavy Individual/Group 1 = Resource

B = Crafting Individuals/Groups 2 = Finished Goods

C = Military/Frontline 3 = Supplied Soldiers

Now, we contact A and ask for 1. A has 1 gathered and brought to our supply depot by our retainer Mercenaries for security.

Now, B can either come to us and ask to withdraw 1.

Or, A/B can simply contact one another and schedule pur mercenaries for the security.

Finally, as B finishes crafting 2 they will send their finished product to C.

1+2=3

Bad with math? Want to hear me talk more? Well so am I, and so do I!

So, basically those within the Concordance are encouraged to use us as a sort of bank, security system, and match maker.

Need goods stored for easier, faster, and safer trades - while also getting insured? Bring your supplies to us.

From there, we will trade your goods out and deliver them to the front as needed. You can sell the resources/supplies and get straight gold, or you can make gold slowly as we or you trade it out of our supply stores.

Anyone within the Concordance has access to our retainer Mercenary force for safe trading to one another or the front lines. Anyone within the Concordance has access to our supply depot; where we will guard and insure your supplies and resources.

Anyone within the Concordance will be aided in making business deals. Setting up meetings with the right people for your organization.  If you have iron, we will set you up with a blacksmith for example.

Good day; for all of us those reading this we truly understand that time comes at the cost of gold therefore I shall be brief.

Congratulations, we of the Harboson Company have decided to accept you and your organization within the Trade League henceforth known to yourselves and the whole of Azeroth as the Gold-Stone Concordance (GSC). Together we will not only grow our wealth and holdings through fair, legal, and mutual understandings of business - but we will also benefit those within our cities, those toiling on the farms, and those bleeding on the frontlines.

Together we will bring normality to the world, as literal hellfire rains down from the sky.

Each of you will be entitled “Mercari” Forming from the old-tongue of the elder nation of Strom to mean ‘to trade’; as allies and friends I expect each of you to wear this title with pride and raise the title to notoriety within our respective societies.

Business will officially begin soon; we will strikeout to make a name for ourselves within this world and not only gather gold but glory and honor. Please, take this included gem - it is a tool of long distance communication and is to be used exclusively by those within the Trade League.

(Rules)

Members of the Gold-Stone Concordance(GSC) have many benefits from their membership; however there are a few rules and expectations in order to maintain membership.

1. Each member will pay a monthly, flat rate to the Harboson Company. This monthly payment will in turn be used to expand the GSC; such as purchasing newspaper ads, paying mercenaries, paying rent on storage, etc.

2. Each member will be expected to offer legal documents pertaining to their resources to ensure all goods are obtained via legal means. All activities should remain legal and ethical for the good of the GSC reputation, and for the respective territories.

3. No member is allowed to embargo, or otherwise actively attempt to disrupt and harm another member of the GSC; the Trade League is designed to let all flourish.

4. In case of extreme measures, and with a majority vote, all members will be expected to participate in emergency embargo measures. For example, (1)a group has actively declared ill-will towards the GSC, (2) a vote will be called, (3) should a majority vote in favor of an embargo - all members must then embargo the target(s) until otherwise specified.

Any concerns or questions about the rules should be brought up privately to Elstine Harboson.

(We, the Harboson Company are able to adjust, remove, or add rules with a 24-hour notice to all members.)

Membership Benefits

The GSC is at its core designed as a Trade League; a mass of businesses, traders, resource providers, etc that work in tandem for one another's benefit, and for the benefit of one's territory. While we all are eager for our own successes, we should not sneer towards our fellow members who are finding success today - with one member's success, that success will spread.

1. Business Advice; we are all a resource of knowledge in various fields. Some of us have experience with trading overseas, some know how to test for quality ore, others know what one should pay for 10kg of wheat. While it is expected for all members to generally be willing to share and assist in their knowledge, the Harboson Company will provide free tutoring and general assistance to help establish trade relations or generally boost sales, among other things - your success is our success.

2. All members have access to unlimited (within reasonable means) usage of a caravan guarding force. With a timely request, we will provide Guards for your caravan to go from point A to point B. This includes land and sea transportation.

3. All members have access to our regional warehouse stockpiles, that remain guarded 24/7; usage cost is included within your monthly membership fee.

4. All members have access to use rented ships and caravans to trade supplies across distances; note, this is an additional cost to monthly fee - users will be liable for damages.

5. All members will have access to reasonable investment loans provided by the Harboson Company; please apply with Viceroy Tideguard or Patrician Elstine.

6. All members will be provided itemized insurance when using our storage centers, and using our provided guards for trade.

IC Letters, Minor OOC Info.

A sweaty, out of breath, courier would arrive; wearing an over-sized dress-shirt and wrinkled, black slacks. After a few moments hunched over trying to catch his breath, the young, likely teen-aged messenger would offer out a sealed and folded parchment - the boy simply stating the letter had been sent from a “Mr. Harboson.” Not expecting a tip, the child would turn and dart off if allowed - retreating back in the opposite direction in a dead sprint.

The folded letter itself would be sealed with a gaudy-gold stamp with the initials of H.C. imprinted into it; gold is in this season - get over it. Breaking the seal, the letter would read:

To whom it may concern,

If you are reading this then you and/or your organization has been noticed by the Harboson Clan, and more importantly the Harboson Company. As such we would like to congratulate yourselves on your successes thus far... But, we will not waste your time with prettied, honeyed words. We wish to expand your success, our own - and the Alliance’s. Many of us already have served our country and creed in various ways, but right now our Country and Factions need us more than ever.

Individually, we can hardly scratch the surface of the vast, ocean-like needs of the Alliance - but together... With an organized, well guarded, and heavily sustained supply line; we will not only expand our coffers and the Alliance’s through taxes - but we will also keep our troops supplied. Armor, weapons, medicine, and even comforts such as tea, candy, and coffee... All of these will aid the front and further secure a foothold against the Legion forces in these dark times. As they say... A stick by itself is easy to snap, but a bundle of small twigs together are near impossible to break. (Unless you’re a bear, or something...)

So then, I call on each of you - not as competitors in a busy, bustling world of economics but as Brothers and Sisters in Commerce, and Brothers and Sisters of the Alliance. Join our Gold-Stone Concordance(GSC): a Trade League of both long-term business folks, new and bright-eyed entrepreneurs, resource-expansive Nobility, and a plethora of crafty allies of the Alliance.

Joining the GSC, you will have a series of benefits all included in a very low-end membership fee that’ll be used to keep up the following benefits provided to all.

All those within the GSC will have provided Guards for all their trading Caravans; to or from any and all destinations.

All those within the GSC will have full access to our amassed Supply Depots; where you can store your supplies, resources, and trade-goods within a 24/7 guarded supply yard.

All those within the GSC will have full access to our financial consultants. A successful business is good for the GSC, and the Alliance - it is important we do all we can to aid your business to help it flourish. We will aid with setting up trades, getting you resources as needed, or buyers for your finished products, and set up additional contacts for you.

If you have received this letter, it implies we at the GSC already have an interest in you and your organization; whether Mercenaries, Master Crafters, or simply having amassed resources... All will be beneficial to the Alliance, the GSC, and one-another.

As such, if you would like to find out more information and sign onto the GSC - please send a return letter to the provided address; include your name or the Leader of your Organization if applicable, your organization’s name if applicable, what services you provide, and a good time and date for us to meet; assuming our own schedule to be cleared.
