Thinking about perry initially having very strong opinions about evil and justice and initially signing the villains' names with "evil."

Thinking about how he started signing doof the same way and with the letter D instead of his first name which is H.

Thinking about perry, after seeing that heinz has made efforts in understanding his expressions and gestures enough, starts writing as a way to communicate with him sometimes and heinz mentioning right after that he started actually looking up ASL after like their 5th meeting realizing maybe perry uses it and perry getting mildly less eager to destroy the inators before heinz finishes his monologues and backstories.

Thinking about perry eventually changing the sign he uses for heinz, evil, into "talkative" instead and using H instead from how many times doof repeated Dr. Heinz Doofenshmirtz in the monologues that it's stuck in his head now and after hearing more about the other doofenshmirtz in both heinz' stories and people perry eventually meets (vanessa and roger).

Thinking about the initial intention of the chatty meaning behind how heinz' name is signed is just an observation and a bit of irritation to it turning into something affectionate and the highlight of his day (still grates him sometimes).

Thinking about how perry, without noticing it, has started to not automatically sign every new villain he meets with "evil" (unless he's sure they deserve it) thanks to heinz.

After posting this human Perry fic, another scene decided to immediately demand to be written. Apparently the plot bunnies for this au aren't just hopping, they're productive. That hasn't happened in a while. I'm gonna roll with it for as long as they do though.

Am I just shamelessly cribbing from Phineas and Ferb get busted? Yes. But that episode's great and as a Perry angst starting point it's hard to top literally having nightmares about having his own agency break into his home and break up his family.

“Hey Mom, could you drop me and Stacy off at the movies today?”

“I suppose so.  What are you two planning to see?  I thought you already saw the new Mermaid’s Mysterious Melodies movie last week.”

“Mom, that movie’s for babies.”

“I liked it!” Phineas piped up from where he was burying his waffle under a pile of banana slices.  “Didn’t you like it Ferb?”  Ferb nodded.

“See?”  Candace waved a hand in Phineas and Ferb’s direction.  “Babies.  We’re going to go see Shadowed Magics.”

“Hold up.  Isn’t that movie PG13?”

“Yeah, so?”

“So, I’m not sure I’m comfortable having you go see such a mature movie.”

“But mom, I’m twelve!  That’s practically thirteen, which is practically an adult!”

“Yeah, well practically doesn’t cut it.  I don’t want you seeing it without adult supervision.”

“But– But–”

Lawrence looked up from the newspaper to give Candace an encouraging smile.  “Cheer up Candace.  We can all have a family movie day next week when summer vacation starts.”

“Neat!”  Phineas cried.  “Hey Ferb, do you think we could create a super jumbo popcorn maker that makes giant popcorn?”  The boys had both grown in leaps and bounds as inventors the last few months.  In a year or two their inventions would be truly impressive.  And Perry fought enough mad and evil scientists that he knew impressive.

But that didn’t solve Candace’s problem.  He churred, getting the rest of the table’s attention. ‘I can take Candace and Stacy.’

“Oh Perry that’d be wonderful!”

Candace let out a loud groan.  “Uncle Perry’s so lame!”

“Candace, that’s not very nice.”  Linda shot him an apologetic smile, and Perry just shrugged.  He liked being lame Uncle Perry.

“But he’s so boring.”

“Well I’ve got that got that gardening symposium and your father has his lecture at the university, so it’s boring Uncle Perry or nothing.”

‘Late morning meeting.  Should be finished by 3.’  That should give him plenty of time to blow up whatever and whoever Monogram sends him after.  ‘I could take you two to get food after.’

“I guess that would be o–”

The back door shattered.  Masked, armored men swarmed through the breach.  The front door shattered.  The windows.  More men.  Armed.  Linda shrieked.  Noise from all sides.  Orders being yelled.  Safeties clicking off.

Perry shoved the kids protectively behind him.  Two men seized Lawrence, halfway out of his seat, hauling him the rest of the way up.  Linda did a little better thanks to her self-defense classes, managing to break the hold of the first one to attack her before two more grabbed her arms.  “Mom!  Dad!  Let go of them!”  Perry yanked Candace back.  The first one to go for the kids he punched hard enough to send him flying across the room.  The next got sent through one of the few unbroken windows.  A third one stepped up to take his place.  A small hand curled into the back of Perry’s shirt.  He backed up further.  A corner was bad.  A corner was really, really bad.  But a corner was the only place they couldn’t snatch his kids from behind.  He needed a weapon.  The knife block was on the other side of the table.  Why did he push them this way?

“Stand down Agent P.”

No.  No no no no.

Major Monogram came striding into the room.  “Great Googly Moogly, couldn’t you have been a bit less reactionary Agent P?  The agency doesn’t have an unlimited amount of people for you to smack around all willy-nilly you know.”

“Agency?”

“Oh, right, introductions.  My bad.  My name is Major Monogram of OWCA, and I’m here to tell you the exciting news that we’ve finally figured out a use for you three!”

“A use!?  Stay away from our kids!”

“They’re not your kids anymore, they’re our assets.”

“We never agreed to be assets!”  Candace shrieked.

Monogram threw back his head and laughed.  “Hahahaha!  Oh, you silly children, that doesn’t matter!  They’ve been ours since before you were born.  Your handler’s been in charge of you since he first found you.  We told him to integrate himself into your family and integrate he did!”  He walked up to Perry and saluted him before grabbing his hand to shake.  “And I must say Agent P, you’ve done an excellent job.”

“Uncle Perry?”  Perry had never heard Phineas’s voice sound so small.  He turned to look at the kids.  Phineas and Ferb were huddled together, staring up at him.  Ferb’s fingers were still tangled in Perry’s shirt although his hand had gone limp.  “You’ve been spying on us?”  Perry flinched.  Phineas’s eyes went flat and broken.  Candace shoved the boys protectively behind her.

“Yes, Agent P’s been reporting on you three to us for years!  And the reports he’s been sending in have gotten interesting!  You boys are becoming quite the inventors!  We’ve decided to hand you to our science department, doing the projects we assign you and nothing else, making inventions for us, not seeing the sun for days or sometimes even months at a time.  It’ll be great!  And Candace, you’re practically thirteen, which is practically an adult!  A perfect age to begin training to be sent out into the field!  We’re moving you to an agency building where you’ll begin working immediately.”

 “You’re not taking us anywhere!” Linda yelled, struggling against the men holding her.

“Of course not.  Only Phineas, Ferb, and Candace are assets.  You two aren’t, and therefore are not our problem.”  He waved at the agents.  “Take them away somewhere they won’t get in the way.”

“Mom!  Dad!”

“Kids!”

Phineas darted under his arm, sprinting after Linda and Lawrence.  Perry made a mad lunge to grab him before another agent could get to him.  “Phineas!  Let go of him!”  Ferb yelled.  Candace tugged Ferb forcefully back but it was too late.  Perry had moved out of the way to reach Phineas and agents grabbed them, wrenching them apart.

“Ferb!  Candace!  No!”

Perry lurched upright bed, choking on a gasp.  His hand reached for a weapon without any conscious input from the rest of him. He’d never been so upset at his choice to keep the closest weapon across the room. Helpful  when the boys snuck in but right now he needed a weapon in his hand.

By the time he reached the drawer he’d calmed down enough to no longer be in a blind panic.  Bypassing his larger blades, he pulled out his pocket knife, the orange one the kids gave him last Christmas.  He turned it over in his hands, remembering how excited they were when he opened the box.

Candace’s room was first.  He cracked open the door and cleared inside. Candace was asleep, curled around her giant ducky Momo, plush next he appeared in on the boys.  Phineas was tucked under his blanket so only a tuft of bright orange hair was visible, while Ferb was sprawled out, blanket, half falling off the bed.  The knot of tension in his chest didn’t loosen exactly, it never loosened, but it did recede far enough for him to like he wasn’t about to hyperventilate or break down.

His kids were all safe. It was just a bad dream.

Just a bad dream, and nothing else.

For now.

Leaving the bedroom doors cracked, he slipped down the hall to his spot and pulled out his knife to wait for morning.  He’d slip back into his room right before anyone else got upand put this whole stupid thing behind him.

There was the click of a light turning on down the hall.  Before he could work himself up he heard Linda mumbling to herself followed by a door opening and muffled footsteps.  He slipped his knife into his pajama pocket and leaned back against the wall.

“Stupid acid reflux.  I knew I never should have–  Hello?  Who‘s there?”

Perry chittered in greeting.

“Oh good, for a second I thought somebody had broken in.  This is what I get for choosing a murder mystery for my pick with book club.  I see I’m not the only one who couldn’t sleep tonight. If I’d known the pie eating contest was going to give me this much trouble for so long I never would have entered.”

Perry grinned, the expression only half forced, fondness pushing away some more of that ever-present tension.  ‘Have to defend your title.’

“You got me there.”  She glanced up and down the hall.  “So are we just standing in a dark hallway?”  Perry reached over and flipped the switch for the stair light, flooding the area with a golden glow.  Linda cocked an eyebrow at him.  “And I suppose I’m just supposed to pretend you weren’t standing in the dark for however, long before I woke up.  This is the third time this month I’ve woken up to find you standing guard in the hallway.  You know, you might nap the day away less if you actually slept at night.”

He brought his right pointer finger in front of his nose and brought it down and out, twisting his hand so his plan faced his chest.

“Well I’m not doing that great on that front either.  But the difference is I go make myself a cup of tea while you lurk in the hallway all night.”

Perry shrugged.  He wasn’t getting back to sleep no matter what he did, so he might as well stand guard.  Instead of heading down to the kitchen like she’d said, Linda came over and leaned against his shoulder.  “Ever since you first moved in, you come to this one spot every time you’ve woke up.  I’ve always wondered, just what is it about this spot that makes it so special?”

Because this spot was a choke point he could hold down to fight anyone coming after his kids.  Because from here was the quickest path to grab all three kids and get out.  Because with their bedroom doors cracked if he strained his hearing and focused like he’d been trained to do since he was practically Candace’s age he could hear all three of the kids breathing.  Because half a foot to his left hidden behind a DNA and passcode locked panel was a meticulously packed go bag and the only gun he kept in the actual house.

He shrugged again, gesturing around at the rather boring-looking stretch of hallway, and giving a thumbs up.

“I see.  It’s a very nice stretch of hallway,” Linda said in the tone of voice she used when she was humoring someone who was talking nonsense.  “But each to their own I suppose.  I’m going to go make that cup of tea.”  Perry cocked his head at her and chittered questioningly.

Linda smiled.  “Wondering why I’m letting you off the hook?”  Perry nodded.  He’d fully expected her to try to chivy him back to bed or down to the kitchen with her.  She reached up and brushed a block of his bed head back into place.  “You’re 26 years old.  As much as I’d love to make you take care of yourself, you’re a full grown adult capable of making your own bad decisions.  But what I can do is bring you up a cup of tea.”  Leaning in she kissed his cheek before continuing, “And I expect you to drink it mister.”

Chuckling, Perry saluted.  Some people were not to be disobeyed, and a protective Linda Flynn was one of them.

Linda padded down the hall and out of sight.  Perry tracked the sound of her movements until she reached the kitchen.  Leaning back against though wall he let his focus turn back to the kids. They were all still sleeping peacefully.

They were safe, they were happy, they had never even heard of the name OWCA.

And heaven help anyone who tried to change that.

In a world where Doof and Perry know ASL…

A “short” animation project! (Short, because it’s two seconds long, but took me the better part of a week to make 😂). I took a clip of Perry from Milo Murphy’s Law to draw onto for this. Please excuse if any of the signs are a bit off grammatically or visually. I’m learning ASL and I’m nowhere near fluent in it. Perry using ASL is not my original idea. I’ve seen other artists use it first, and I adore it! This seemed like a great project to celebrate the revival of Phineas and Ferb, ASL practice, hand drawing, style mimicking, and animation practice!

God I just love how versatile Perryshmirtz is. They are enemies to best friends to lovers. They are hero x villain. They are affectionated sunshine x serious tsundere. They are forbidden romance. They are idiots in love. They are power couple. They have big size difference. They are different species. They are both traumatized. They have a dark relationship with their parents/the people that raised them. They have a dark relationship with the government. They are possesive. There's the whole situation with Peter and Lyla. They are protective. They are good parents. They like to fight each other. They will always be there for each other. They are both tired adults that could drink or smoke. None of their "first languages" is english. They are both males. They both cross dress. You can portray them as future transfem. They both have femenine qualities (Perry laying eggs... Doof having pitchy voice...). You can portray them as intersex/afab transmasc. They are both legally animals. Heinz is a man raised by animals. Perry is an animal raised by men. They are both workalcoholics. They are coworkers. Their jobs is to thwart each other. They like that job. They do stuff outside their job too. They keep hanging out after retirement. Perry falls into traps willingly. Heinz tries to make the traps fun and entertaining. They get sad when they don't see the other at work. They are misserable without the other. They are harsh with the other. They turn soft for the other. They get worried for the other. Like more shady stuff? You can focus on the enemies part of their relationship. You can focus on the interspecies part. You can focus on the age gap/experience part. You can focus on the bondage part. You can focus on the agent and criminal aspect. You can do 2nd D Doof x Platyborg instead. You can drop that animal on fucked up situations. You can drop that man on fucked up situations. You can not give them a happy ending. You can do a major character death. Like lighter stuff? You can focus on the best friends part. You can focus on the idiots in love part. You can make them domestic. You can make them understand each other's trauma. You can make them help heal each other. You can make them be flirty with each other. You can make them be silly at work. You can make them hang out after work. You can make Heinz quit being evil. You can make Perry defend Heinz from authorities. You can make them take care of the other when they are sick (canon on Perry's part so far btw). You can make Perry rescue Doof when he is in trouble (Lost in Danville episode). You can make OWCA ask Doof to rescue Perry(Doof to the rescue comic). You can make them remember and celebrate the others birthday. You can make them a happy family. You can give them a happy ending. There's still stuff you wanna change? No problem! Heinz can build an inator to solve it. Heinz could turn into Doofapus for same species stuff. Perry could turn into a human for same species stuff. They could use an inator to be the same age. They could use an animal translator (if you don't wanna write Perry doing ASL). They could swap bodies for funny shenanigans. They could use an inator to get inside the other's mind. There's also AUs! 2nd Dimension AU. Doof n Puss AU. Steampunk AU. Frankenstein Perry AU. Star Wars AU. Medieval AU. Wizard of oz AU. You can continue Doof 101 timeline. You can continue OWCA Files timeline. You can invent Professor Time timeline. And of course, you can always use fanon AUs! You can do Human Perry. You can do Ocelot Heinz. You can do reverse species. You can do reverse personalities. You can do evil sidekick Perry. You can do good sidekick Heinz. You can even make Phineas and/or Ferb turn into Heinz's evil scientist apprentice for fun adventures!

There's literally so many things you can do with them, so many situations you can put them through!

Human!Perry AU

When Perry was first assigned to Doof, the scientist was thrilled to finally have his own nemesis (and such a competent one !) and very excited to hear what he had to say about his schemes and plans (very evil of course, what else could they be).

He got quite the surprise though when his freshly appointed OWCA agent did not utter a word after the first thwarting. Or the second. Or the third ...

Nothing, not even a curse ! After their fourth encounter he started to get annoyed, how rude of him to ignore him like that ! As if he were just a job (which, he was, but still) !

On the fifth thwarting, the -inator of the day decided to act up and almost blew up in their faces. Perry, reacting on instinct, tackled Doof on the ground just before the explosion. It was a small explosion and nothing got hurt except his pride, but when he looked up the genius ended up face to face with the agent. He was staring intensely at him and just before Heinz started to ask what he wanted, annoyed by the attention, the shorter man got off him and started to make some hand movements.

... what ? It took him a couple minutes (and a heavy sigh from Perry) to realise that the agent was actually signing ! Blurting the first thing that came to mind, Heinz squeaked :

-" So that's why you never speak to me ! Why didn't you tell me on our first meeting ? You could have wrote it down or something ! So I could know ! Communication is important in every kind of relationship Perry the Platypus ! Am I the only invested in ours ? How are we supposed to have a healthy nemesis relationship if I don't understand you ? You are so frustating ! "

And he just leaves the scene, still grumbling, leaving a very confused agent behind.

The very next day he enrolls in an ASL class thrice a week. The man giving the morning classes is smaller than him with broad shoulders and teal hair, he often have a serious expression with a soft smile and kind eyes. His nametag reads P. FLETCHER.

When he first sees him, Mr Fletcher looks very suspicious, a bit worried even, and asks him (with his phone) what he's doing here.

Doof knows he's one of the older student but still ! That's rude !

- " Not that it's any of your business sir but a work relationship of mine happens to communicate only via sign language, so I obviously had to learn if I want to be able to understand him. I mean I could probably make a translatinator or a mindreading-inator to help us communicate but the fool would most likely destroy it before I could explain it's purpose so ... it just seemed like the better option."

The man looks surprised, and weirdly touched. He stares at him for a minute then apologises for his question. Heinz just shrugs and takes a seat.

After that, every thwarting becomes a little bit better. He undestands the agent better every time and Perry seems more invested. Finally ! The magnificent nemesis relationship he was craving !

He keeps going to the classes and Mr Fletcher ( he looks like he could rock a hat ) keeps giving him this curious and soft look every time he shows up.

( Although he should probably create a De-butterfly-inator, the sensation is starting to get annoying ... or maybe he should just ask him out ? ...)

I like that Doof could have build a platypus translator but he never does and after Phineas and Ferb find out about Perry they also don’t build a translator lmao

they did try that but he sounded like john mulaney so they all collectively decided to ignore that and never use a translator again /j

i’m gonna yap now because i just woke up and i have zero filter to stop me from yapping but there is something so fucking fun about perry’s silence. that doesn’t mean i don’t like the ASL or translator options (heck you will most likely 100% see me use both at some point too because sometimes you just need words) but fUCK that little guy is such an expressive character in canon like…bro doesn’t say a word but you know exactly what he’s thinking most of the time and i’m like …i LOVE attempting to do that with him too and it IS SO HARD TO DO SOMETIMES but he’s just so *squeezes him like a dog toy*

i can bet you so much money that judging by the force of his expressiveness if he COULD speak he would talk a lot but he DOESNT NEED TO because the expression and body language game just goes so hard that words are absolutely redundant

What about a fic where Perry used to be human, but was turned into a platypus in a young age for a mistake of some owca agents? (they were doing a mission in australia) Then he has to be separated from his family, (his mom and Lawrence his brother), moving from Australia to USA to be trained as an secret agent.

The previous major, before Monogram, made a deal with him, that Perry can turn back into human again if he "erased" all the 100 evil scientist of the tri-state area. And so he does.

But, during the years, he just "erased" 99 of them. He got so attached to the last one, that he can't do it! Although, he have to, if not, he'll never be able to see his family, like a blood relative, not a platypus pet anymore.

Meanwhile he is deep in love with Dr.D, Perry decided to erase his mind about him, (after he quites evil for vanessa), for him live his life happy without owca behind him.

And now the 100 scientists are gone. In part.

He can be human and quite his joba.

He explains "everything" (a total lie) to Lawrance of what happened to him in the past.

He starts to sleep on the attic of the flynn-fletchers house.

Lawrence put Perry to work at his antique store.

The kids have now a cat and are happy.

He MUST be happy too right? No, he's felling alone.

Perry is feeling broken, the only one who knows him bottom up isn't with him. And it hurts his soul. He cries every night.

Untill one day...

Heinz Doofenshmirtz shows up at the antiquary, and in a shoot of hope, in PERRY'S SHIFT.

He needs to buy something.

Perry can't say a word (in ASL), he's shaking and sweating, he thinks he's gonna faint right now.

Is there a possibility where them...could stay together, without owca, lovemuffin between them (and the interspescie's part)?

They can start over.

Perry likes the sound of it.

Jumping on the Human O.W.C.A train with a Pinky

Things to know about my version of Human Pinky/O.W.C.A. Agents:

They have two uniforms, a "casual" one and a full bodysuit with bits of reinforced lightweight armour. You can see both in the drawing, with the casual one in The Favourites (that consists in pants; a jumper with a lower face mask included - though it can be removed; a vest with suspender-like belts that are full of pockets and in turn full of gadgets. and maybe a snack or two. and like. 3 small tiny medical kits; and finally a gun and knife and their holster) and the bodysuit in the Super Agent Mode one. Both use fedoras (sorta O.W.C.A. symbol lbh) and have differing colours per division - Admiral Wanda Acronym uses pink, Major Francis Monogram uses green and the Seattle division uses black - plus different cuts for the vests (AA's is a v neck, Seattle a round cut but slightly lower while MM's is round but closer to the neck).

I forgot that Pinky was supposed to be a chihuahua for a hot second and made him tall so. Have a Tall Pinky that towers is relatively the same height as Poofenplotz (with her high heels), is a few centimetres taller than Doofenshmirtz when our favourite evil villain slouches but shorter than him when he Doesn't slouch.

Pinky is a nickname that Isabella gave him that, via an accident or two, ended up in his O.W.C.A file and at this point he has accepted his fate

Pinky's cover story is that he is a model that does shootings at odd hours and is also a freelance programmer, hence why he disappears at times and also knows computer stuff

Also him being tall is in part because of height requirement for male models so he is like. 6 feet (1.83 m) to be comfortably in the limits

Not to worry though, you can still have short king Perry that is barely 150cm (4'9 feet) and an even shorter Queen that is Agent Rat from the Seattle Division that is a certified Dwarf™

Also btw Perry in my au is an ASL/BSL/Auslan interpreter (first thing that came to his mind and he got stuck with it) that regularly has to disappear to interpret people, even in the middle of the night due to some situations (see: a deaf tourist ending up in a hospital). Agent Rat - Rachel cover is that she works for the IRS and keeps busting people for tax evasion

Anyways continuing back to the drawing: Pinky is Isabella's cousin and lives with her and her parents because they moved in with him since he had the old family home that was in a great neighbourhood and close to schools and that way they wouldn't have to find a new place to stay when Mr Garcia-Shapiro got transferred to Danville.

(Pinky get's the basement as a room and he Likes It bc Hacker Vibes. And also easier to get to his lair or in general do his job)

Pinky has the same hair problems as Isabella, his don't cover his face anymore because O.W.C.A. helped him manage to get AT LEAST half of his face uncovered in case he was attacked in his sleep.

Regarding The Favourites: The Favourites is a reference to who I think were Evil Doofenshmirtz family in the Second Dimension: Perry is Heinz because gestures show; Agent Rat is Charlene's because of her makeup skills as well as her ability to pass unnoticed and thus take out threats faster; and finally Pinky is Vanessa's bodyguard that DOES take out threats to her from time to time but most of what he does is literally just control Vanessa's internet usage/what she sees

2D Pinky is a drawing of him post Tales from the Resistance: back to the 2D dimension. He had his hair cut short while working for Doof and is now growing it out. Also Monogram is possibly the only one from the previous, as in Pre-Doof, O.W.C.A. leadership that survived so when Pinky went back to being a secret agent, he got assigned to Monogram's division

Yes in his civilian he has a choker that is a reference to his dog collar in the show

Not seen but he has his hair long but tied in the bottom, making something that looks like a chihuahua tail. If you know Helia during season 2 and 3 of Winx but a bit longer with the ponytail MUCH shorter

Perry's at the point of his career–as the uncle of the Flynn-Fletcher twins, arch-nemesis of Dr Heinz Doofenshmirtz as well as the best agent Danville's OWCA had to offer–that he often thinks he's really seen everything.

Heinz, in this case, often and with joyful vindication, trumps the laws Quantum metaphysics nearly every day. Sometimes accidentally. His nemesis is the one who's taught him best the boundary between realities can often be as flimsy as a blue-print, and the difference between success and failure for even the most mad of ambitions may sometimes be luck, coffee and determination.

What he's trying to say, here: Perry keeps thinking Heinz can't really surprise him anymore, scheme wise. Today, he was proven wrong once again.

The trap snaps him up upon entry; Perry finds himself hanging by a tangle of ropes hanging from the ceiling. It pulls him into a pose that was a bit on the nose, considering the date. His left leg suspended and tied close to his back, leaving him partially horizontal, and forcibly arching his back, his arms stretched out into an archer's bow.

Cupid. Right. Valentine.

The first thing he notices was the behemoth of an inator; metal molded in hearts, chrome, scarlet and pink.

The second thing he notices is the raised platform in its heart, colored bone white and curved into a ribcage.

Say what you will about Heinz, but he would always stick to a theme.

"Always a pleasure to see you again, Agent P, " the man croons, stepping out of the shadows. His sneer is a poor facade over unrepentant, almost cruel glee. It made him look more evil than he truly was, and it ratchets his blood ever hotter. Perry chitters, but Heinz barely gives him a second glance.

"I'm sure you've been made aware of what day it is." Heinz drawls as he began to pace, shooting a scathing look past the bounds of his balcony. "Neither should you be surprised I've got a grudge or two to keep.

"You see, Perry the Platypus, as is the case for everything else, my love life has only ever been a neverending trail of heartbreak and misery. Middle school crushes, high school prom dates...I've even fallen out with the mother of my daughter, and we used to be pretty good friends in college! Nothing but a trail of failure and disappointment on both our halves...but mostly on mine.

"Recently, I have found myself fallen for this, ah, another candidate." Here, Perry notices another two things; one, the deliberate, albeit curious avoidant of pronouns, and on two, how the man pointedly avoiding his eye.

Both facts which contribute to a hopeful skip to his heart rate... completely inappropriate to his circumstances. This was not the time to be daydreaming.

(Nevermind that he had never had an indication of where Hein swung, in a sense, and how some implications were really opening things up for him.)

Heinz was still monologuing, naturally. "Which might even be a case more impossible than the last. I mean, we're ideologically opposed in most, if not all our moral grounds, and he's...God, he's too good for me, too much better looking. Way out of my league, it'll be like-like shooting for the moon, except I've already done that successfully multiple times, so-what's more impossible than the moon? Mars? Maybe a distant star of another solar system, maybe the Andromeda. I don't know, one of her fast moving moon systems. It doesn't matter. What I'm trying to say is," Heinz shakes his head, trying to focus. "It's impossible. He's impossible, I've got no chance, and I'm destined for another crash and burn not too far down the line, and being reminded of this stupid holiday makes it even worse, because I don't even know if he's-he's attracted to guys like that, or if he's even single! He could be out there on the arm of some...girlfriend or wife with three kids and I'd never know! Or maybe it would be more merciful if I didn't let myself know--but it doesn't matter," Heinz says vehemently, eyes closed and fists shaking like he's once again forcibly attempting to focus, while Perry wiggles in his trap with his heart in his throat thinking loudly that he had the kids, but not the wife, on account of being apparently and decisively gay and available, if that was at all relevant to certain interested parties.

Nonverbal Ferb and Human!Perry HCs + Accessibility Devices

Ferb is canonically nonverbal/selectively mute. He only says two lines everyday or when he wants to be funny/sassy. He communicates through nonverbal gestures.

That said, my hc is that younger ferb was given an AAC device before he first talked. It's a tablet or laptop full of buttons and/or symbols that will be said by the device when it's pressed. Highly possible that his parents were worried whether he could talk or needed help with it so giving him one in his early years was them wanting for him to have more options with communicating how he feels to other people if he wants to.

He stopped using it because he realized that rather than symbols/concepts, he communicates better through words (and everyone who matters to him understands him without verbal communication anyway). But he did create bring with him an mp3-sized device that will verbalize every word he types in just in case he gets overwhelmed and he's not with family and needs to communicate (not an AAC device).

To segue this to my human!perry hc;

Unlike ferb, uncle perry prefers communicating with stitched symbols together and gestures than words or even sign language. He can do everything I mentioned but the symbols is his likely preference among all and the easiest for him to use when be gets overwhelmed (altho he prefers NOT TO do any kind of communication and do his own thing when he's overwhelmed tbh and just go back with the communication part later after a while).

On one of his birthdays, the boys made him an AAC device the size of an mp3 player that he can type words in as well. Both his and ferb's have customizable voices. You can in fact even not use the voice option and the device will print out the words that you want said with a customizable font (Perry is using the times new roman font as an added secret identity layer signaling that he's a desk worker guy). Those devices do double as mp3 players too actually. (This also appliea how phineas and ferb knows that perry loves music in canon)

OWCA examines this device and replicated it (like they did many of pnf's work tbh -> hc) to incorporate in agent P's gadgetry in case he'll be assigned with fellow agents or whenever he ever needs it at work. OWCA also added that device behind agent P's tie and also on the Sign Language Glove that he already wear with his complete agent "suit."

[Sign Language Gloves are gloves that translates what a person signs. The current available one irl already have 40 sign languages inputted]

One feature of this replicated AAC is also printing out whatever perry says on a small paper and sending texts to his fedora that then pops out a comical sign on top on what he wants to say. He doesn't use either much on villains and he didn't need it when communicating with heinz overtime.

As Uncle Perry and Agent P, Perry has different preferences in communicating...

Largely because he’s more relaxed at home and more focused and detached with his emotions at work. (Heinz is an exception)

As Uncle Perry, his preferences are:

AAC >>>>> ASL/BSL > typing words to be printed on paper > typing words to be said by the device >>>>> verbal speaking

As agent P (he usually doesn't talk to villains but if he needs to):

Sign Language Gloves >>>>> AAC >> typing words to be said by the device > typing words for it to pop up his fedora

(These are the only ways he'll talk to villains)

Agent P to his colleagues:

hi! I read your pinned post and didn't see anything answering this question, so I was wondering, what sign language do you use for your fics? I've been learning for only a bit, but I'm not able to correlate any of the signs you mention to anything I know and am not able to find anything in sources I use for my dialect of sign

Hi Adam!

I'm going to apoligize in advance, because I read my answer back before posting, and I sound quite negative and preachy. I promise I'm not. Just imagine I'm giggeling and twirling my hair the entire time hihi. 🤭

So, since Danville is in the USA, Perry does use American Sign Language (ASL) unless otherwise specified. I rarely, rarely describe signs by configuration and movement, and if I do, I don't want to spend more than a sentence doing it. Why? Because I've seen people write paragraphs of detailed instruction on ASL and 2 things happen: 1. I am bored out of my mind. I'm sure there are people who enjoy reading this, but I myself am not one of them. It grinds the story's pace to a halt and reads like Ikea instruction. So, I usually skip the entire paragraph. 2. If I do read it, I still have to and google the sign, because I never understand the explanation anyway. (A bit like those smut scenes where you have to pause because you're not sure what position people are in 😅)

I don't know sign language, especially not American, so I don't think I should be teaching other people anyway. Aside from that, I think that if people are serious about wanting to learn sign language, I hope they wouldn't be learning it from fanfic. I'm going to assume there are (free) courses online?

So, when I do describe a sign, it has to fit the flow of conversation and be very simple. My goal, if I do include a description, is not to teach people, but to remind them someone is using ASL so that their mental picture matches the reality I'm trying to sketch. Does that make sense?

I think the reason "Human Perry is mute and communicates with sign language" in human!Perry aus doesn't work for me is that it defeats the purpose. Like the reason he's made mute seems to stem from him being unable to speak as a platypus, something that frequently comes up, and it seems a natural conclusion to have him communicate with sign language as an alternative.

But Perry the Platypus, as a platypus, isn't mute. He vocalizes constantly, and is understood by other animals when he does (in fact it's arguably canon that animals in the Phineas and Ferb universe all share a common, structured, and translatable language across the board). What's more, Perry has hands. If he felt like communicating with humans as Agent P, he could canonically use sign language. All of the animal agents could.

And like, just so we're clear, I don't think anyone writing Perry as mute to reflect the lack of spoken conversation in their own au is doing something wrong. I don't even necessarily think the use of sign language as an alternative is wrong either, I just think that it doesn't really do what it's meant to do: if you're making Perry mute to reflect his lack of speech in canon and then giving him sign language that everyone understands, that undoes the intent.

One could argue that it would still work if you made it so that only a few people actually understood sign language, like Monogram and Carl and the other animal agents, but that kind of makes his family seem like jerks for not learning sign language, any sign language at all, in five years (or longer, depending on the backstory). Doofenshmirtz gets away with it, but canonically he's the one who understands Perry the best (we're ignoring what he said in Minor Monogram because that doesn't actually line up with the other four seasons worth of episodes that suggest otherwise) so it would make sense to have him be the only one who did bother to learn asl at least make sense.

In any case, this line of thought is why in Perry T, when Perry isn't talking he uses non-linguistic communication, but has no trouble communicating with the people he has deemed worth using his voice around.

(By the way, this is a matter of just semantics and I certainly don't have any trouble with anyone who sees Perry's relationship with speech in Perry T as selective mutism, but I don't consider it that way myself because it is completely voluntary for him, and while his reasons are a little deeper than I can explain just yet, are largely to do with the ease of revealing too much the more you say, not just as a secret agent but in general. This is why his argument with Heinz in Zenith is so significant, because events upset him enough that he stopped worrying about that, just for a few minutes.)

There was a harmony to those early days, just a mother and her countless daughters, peaceful together at the foot of their mountain. Perdita was a dreamer, a storyteller, the sister who would point to the stars and weave tales for each and every constellation. Her sisters and their mother… they were her world, and heaven have mercy on the people who took her world from her. 

Her throat hurt from screaming, and she tried to grip onto her mother’s body for as long as physically possible. But the silver burned — wound around her wrists and ankles — and the boat’s sway made her feel positively nauseous. Men had taken them to be weapons, a simple trick in mankind’s futile wars, and the sisters were rendered powerless to their new masters. 

Each battle blurs into one, hazy visions of death and destruction, many of her sisters decaying alongside the men and boys they were pointed towards. 

But one stands out. Rumours must’ve spread, boastful soldiers about gorgons being used on the battlefield. It only took one soldier brave and equipped enough to try something at an opportune moment, some strange bottled chemical haphazardly splashed in the face of one of the girls while she least expected it.

As her vision corroded, the last thing she saw was the stone figure of the man who blinded her. 

Despite it all, Perdita was a survivor. Clever enough to know her captors would find no use for a blinded gorgon, she tore through the battlefield in a way she never truly had before, relying more and more on her speed and strength to take out hoards of men. Her own ruthlessness, fuelled by a general rage at all that’d been done to her family, terrified her, but it was the sole thread that her future clung onto. And deep down, the dreamer in her always knew that some of the sisters had to escape eventually, although her dreams resembled spite more and more with each day.

The end was as sudden as the beginning, even if it was quiet. The men’s treatment of their weapons had grown rather lackadaisical, and the sisters slipped away from their caves together, and it was in the aftermath of this escape that Perdita lost them, and herself in the process.

It wasn’t like she could stomach being around them anyway. All she wanted to do was retreat into a corner and hide away from everyone, even the sisters she loved so dearly, so it took decades for her to really attempt to find them again. The subsequent years aren’t any prouder than her years as a weapon, and the gorgon found herself focused much more on vengeance than in moving forward with her life. 

Learning humanity was isolating and difficult for her, but it came in the subsequent years. Awful men became a pastime for her, people she could use to gain access to the resources she needed, such as music, fine art and learning braille. Over time, she became a much more confident and talented artist, focusing largely on sculpture. 

It wasn’t until the mid 2010s that she finally found her remaining sisters in Portum, where she has resided ever since.

-perry moves in lawrence and helps take care of ferb. lawrence somehow someway makes his way to america meets linda falls in love etc. i think perry & ferb go back in forth btwn the us & the uk.

-eventually obv lawrence & linda move in & marry. perry stays in the uk.

-he gets relocated to the us at some point & law+lin are like hey you should stay with us.

-in 2001 before 9/11 (this is for me ok let me get a few jokes in im aware they only had him for 5 yrs but he is 6 as a platypus) perry moves to the us. lives by himself in america for a year before moving in w the flynn-fletchers. (ferb obv knows perry but so do phin & candace. just to a lesser extent.)

-beyond that is very flexible. perry cld have only known doof since the beginning of the summer or since the moment he arrived in america. doesnt rly matter lol but if i did have to give a time id say theyd been nemeses for 3 years.
