Ariana DeBose and Chris Pine on Captivating Hearts Through Music in 'Wish'

I mean, making things for money doesn't necessary mean that it will be automatically bad if there are things to work on, and the Frozen 2 ending seriously left countless possibilities.
I don't think Anna and Elsa need a "dramatic" reunion, the ending implies they already see each other on friday nights for charade, so they can simply expand on how busy they are or how they worked together to strenghen the Arendelle & Northuldra alliance.
I usually don't care much for these kind of statements, most importantly so early in development, but this doesn't mean I don't trust the team and, most importantly, their care to better themselves after the big struggles in making F2, which is probably one of the reasons why they decided to split the story in two movie.
“Frozen 3's story will be amazing”

In an exclusive interview with The Direct, Frozen/ 2 yesterday, Dec 26 2023, producer Peter De Vecho has told us that the story that they're working on is going to be ”amazing”.
Peter has said:
“Look, we only do sequels if we believe there's enough story to tell. They're working on it, up in development, I'm focused on 'Wish'. But it is exciting what they're working on. I will say anything that you read about it in the public, we haven't said anything about it. So it's all conjecture, but I trust that it's going to be amazing."
Let's breakdown what all this means:
Given Peter De Vecho said he's currently working on Wish, I believe this interview was taken before Wish aired in Cinemas or during its production. So now that Wish is in Cinemas, Peter should be focused on Frozen 3.
This time instead of Jennifer Lee giving the subtle updates on Frozen 3 (and 4), now we have Peter De Vecho joining in, confirming his return as the producer of the films. So slowly as the production of Frozen 3 develops more people from the crew and cast will be giving us more updates on the film.
But as far as the reason for making Frozen 3 and 4 goes, and people saying it's just to make money, I don't believe that's the only reason. Yes I believe they are making money but that's what films do - make money. And with how Disney films are going now, not doing so well, they have to do all they can to climb back up and give us the Disney we know and love. But they are also making more movies for the story. I can't say this for other franchises but with Frozen's history, I believe it's for the story too. Frozen 2 was made because after Frozen we all were theorising and begging to know how Elsa got her powers in the first place learning that she was born with them. Frozen 2 gave us that answer and expanded the background of that a little more including more magical/ mythical beings. Yes I know it's a controversial movie mostly for its ending of the sisters separation. But after a few re-watches and reads of posts I understand the need for it then. But I still want the sisters to reunite permanently this time as do many, so perhaps the story finds a way of doing this. But we also wonder what this fifth spirit role means, what other things can Elsa do now, how Anna handles life as queen, etc.
Jennifer Lee has also said recently that Elsa won't have a LGBT love interest because she's not focusing too much on what the fans want but rather more on what the story tells, what is needed for Elsa, for the characters right now in this new situation they've been put under. And because the story being developed is big, it's going to split into two parts. So yeah it's for the story too.
So about Frozen 3, we have heard it's going to be mind blowing, “big” and “epic” from Jennifer Lee and “exciting” and “amazing” from Peter De Vecho. I don't think the first two movies have been hyped about as much as Frozen 3 has been so far. The best thing is we don't know what to expect. We don't know anything and nothing has been confirmed yet so anything can happen. Most of the two part movies have been doing well so yes I do have hope for Frozen 3 and 4.
Frozen 3 is expected to release in November 2025 if it follows the same year gap and released dates as the previous.

Frozen 3 - What We Know So Far - 2025
(Note - official F3 concept art released during D23 2024)
Just as I’ve done in previous years, I will be compiling every new piece of information and article I can find regarding updates for Frozen 3. This project began in 2023 with the goal of preventing misinformation and rumors from spreading within the fandom while providing fans with reliable sources for new developments.
Eventually, I will compile a post or page dedicated to all of the sources, interviews, and articles we have so far in regards to Frozen 3 and its second part.
Aspects of this post will change when new information is revealed.
Shout out to the following blogs who also keep an eye out for new information regarding Frozen 3, and are the sources for many articles.

What We Know Summary
Release Date: November 24th, 2027 Director(s): Jennifer Lee, Marc Smith Writer(s): Jennifer Lee, Marc Smith Producer(s): Peter Del Vecho, Jared Bush Song Writer(s): Kristen Anderson-Lopez, Robert Lopez Voice Actors Confirmed: Kristen Bell, Idina Menzel, Josh Gad
Story Summary: While specific details have not been released or leaked, we know that the story will be separated into two films, with the second part not having a release date yet. Both parts are being worked on at the same time, and are currently in early development.
The writers are currently looking into answering some lingering questions, including, but not limited to: more Ahtohallan and Nature Spirits lore, more explanation about Elsa’s powers and why Anna does not have magic, Anna’s role as Queen, Anna and Kristoff’s future plans for children, if Kristoff will be King, Kristoff and Sven’s past, what happened to Prince Hans, and more about the Frozen Heart concept.
However, it is good to keep in mind that none of these are 100% confirmed to be in the films, they are just some ideas that the film team are looking into.

Missed Article from 2024
In November, Head of the Walt Disney Animation Company Jared Bush, also Executive Producer of Frozen 3, gave a few more tiny details about Frozen 3 during a showcase at D23 Brazil.
Yeah, yeah, Frozen 3 is coming. And from what I've seen so far [of the film] I think people are going to be surprised. I can't give away too many spoilers, other than to say that Jennifer Lee is leading the charge and that the story and the direction that she's taking these characters, what they're going through, what they're going to go through, I think it's going to surprise a lot of people, but it's also going to deliver on everything that people love about Frozen. - Jared Bush, D23 Brazil
Articles from 2025
January
January 17th - Josh Gad confirmed in an interview with Entertainment tonight, shown here on TikTok, that the team has not revealed any story details to him.
---
January 26th - Josh Gad went on to explain how he feels waiting for the third film is a good thing, as it gives time for the writers to perfect the story.
There’s a reason the movie is coming out in 2027. And that is because no one wants to rush this. Everyone wants this to not just be a sequel or a money grab. They want this to be absolutely worthy of the story we set out to make in 2013 [in the first Frozen movie]. And we want to give audiences something that is worth the years of waiting and years of anticipation. And I know that they are actively working on that. And I know that they have a story that they are very, very, very excited about. - Josh Gad, People Magazine.
---
February
February 1st - Idina Menzel confirms that as of now, the films are still in early development, and that she has not seen a script yet. s
Idina Menzel Reveals She Hasn’t ‘Read Any Scripts’ for ‘Frozen 3’ Just Yet (Exclusive)
I think it's happening, but that's all I know. I haven't read any scripts or anything, but I look forward to reuniting with my entire Frozen family and getting in that creative space and getting to get in the studio and find Elsa’s voice again. Idina Menzel, Parade

"It's a big deal," Chris Pine says of singing alongside Oscar winner Ariana DeBose in Disney's Wish.
Wish is produced and co-produced by Peter Del Vecho and Juan Pablo Reyes. Wish, a new musical comedy from Walt Disney Animation Studios, is poised to celebrate 100 years of Disney creating enchantment to the big screen. Ariana DeBose and Chris Pine, who play the primary characters Asha and King Magnifico, are guaranteed to take fans to the wonderful country of Wish.
While the actor has previously demonstrated his voice abilities, in a recent interview, Chris Pine admits to being anxious about co-starring with Oscar winner Ariana DeBose in the upcoming Disney animated feature Wish. "Not at all," said the actor. It's just not something I do on a daily when you're singing opposite Ariana... it's a big deal." Ariana Debose, who knew Chris Pine was worried because of her, commented, "He can sing! He can definitely sing. I was like, 'Oh!' when I found out I was cast in this picture. Didn't you watch him in Into The Woods? ...I believe Chris is one of those people that does not realize how talented he is." "I love the sound of his voice, the way that he moulds words," she says of Pine's work in Wish. He's a tasty villain. People are going to love to despise him, and I just enjoy seeing him work." The film transports viewers to the mystical country of Rosas, where Asha, a sharp-witted optimist, makes a strong request that is granted by a cosmic force—a small ball of unlimited energy known as Star. Together, Asha and Star face a fearsome foe—the ruler of Rosas, King Magnifico—to preserve her town and demonstrate that marvelous things can happen when the will of one brave human combines with the power of the stars.

Originally - even our version has evolved over time - we played the Snow Queen as solely the villain from the beginning to the end of the movie. And the problem with that was it was hard to relate to her. She was up in a castle, sequestered there, and had no real participation. And it was hard to relate to her on any human or emotional level. By making [the two lead characters, Elsa and Anna] sisters, it forced us to write it in such a way that the audience would understand why Elsa is the way she is. And why Anna is the way she is too. That provided a natural conflict.

'Wish' Creatives on Celebrating Disney's 100th Anniversary
Since the 1980s, Walt Disney Animation Studio’s opening theme has enchanted audiences with “When You Wish Upon A Star.” It’s a theme that continues to resonate with all who look to the stars to guide them. And so, Wish directors Chris Buck and Fawn Veerasunthorn, co-writer and Disney Animation CCO Jennifer Lee, along with producers Peter Del Vecho and Juan Pablo Reyes Lancaster-Jones set out to…

Hey, so do have a history of Hans' development in Frozen? I keep seeing so many posts about how Hans was actually meant to be a good guy and he was Elsa's romance in Frozen or Frozen 2 and what-not and I'm just trying to look at actual sources and facts regarding his character, since I want to write my own analysis, but I think that Hans fans are too biased to provide actual good info.
My What Came Before Analysis details the information I was able to find about Frozen's early development throughout the years.
In terms of Hans specifically, I do have this twitter (X) thread about misinformation within the Hans fandom pushed by a few extremists that you can go ahead and take a look at.
However, since you asked, here are some tid-bits regarding Hans' character throughout the years leading up to the first film.
-----
Hans was most likely conceptualized around the time Anna and the Snow Queen became Frozen and switched form 2D hand-drawn animation, to 3D animation. Before Anna and Elsa were written as sisters, Hans was written to be the true villain of the story, as a way to help redeem the Snow Queen character. This was around 2010-2011.
Frozen was to open with a prophecy that “a ruler with a frozen heart will bring destruction to the kingdom of Arendelle.” We’re then introduced to Anna, our pure-hearted heroine, and Elsa, an unrelated evil Snow Queen. We learn Elsa is a scorned woman; she was stood up at the altar on her wedding day and froze her own heart so she would never love again. Both Elsa and the audience assume she’s the villain from the prophecy. Fast-forward to the final act: Elsa creates an army of snow monsters to attack our heroes while Kristoff has “a Han Solo moment” and comes to help Anna. To halt Elsa’s attacking army, the two-faced Prince Hans (Admiral Westergaard) triggers a massive avalanche—not caring that the avalanche also puts Anna, Elsa, and all of Arendelle in jeopardy. Anna realizes Elsa is their only hope, so she convinces her to use her powers to save the kingdom. The twist is that the prophecy from the beginning is actually not about Elsa, but about Hans—he’s the one with a metaphorical frozen heart because he’s an unfeeling sociopath. Elsa’s heart is then unfrozen allowing her to love again. - Peter Del Vecho, Entertainment Weekly
After Elsa and Anna were re-written as sisters, the story changed so that Hans and Anna were about to get married, until Elsa kidnaps her from the wedding. The ending was the same as far as I know, with Admiral Westergaard triggering the avalanche to stop Elsa's snowman army, leading to the destruction of Arendelle as well. You can see a tid-bit of this Elsa in the video below -
youtube
Eventually, after Let it Go was written, Hans was apparently written as trying to get a job in Arendelle, and Anna was trying to get Elsa to agree but she wouldn't. Then it was changed to the quick engagement plot instead. For the life of me, I can't find the source for this so you can take it with a grain of salt.
Then, Hans was changed to a Prince, and rather than being a reckless, uncaring (and a little dumb) villain that was willing to destroy Arendelle and its people to stop Elsa, Hans was changed to a more cunning villain who was trying to win the throne by emotional manipulation rather than by force.
This is what Jennifer Lee meant when she said the following -

So no, Hans was never a good guy or Elsa's romance interest. And that's everything I know about Hans' development based on sources.
