I grew up with a bunch of musicals. I still like most of the ones I grew up with, but they're all horrible about consent, female personhood, and other issues like that.

Today's song is Piano Lesson, which is part of The Music Man. This song highlights how inconvenient it is for your family if you have boundaries or personal taste in romantic partners. (other parts of the musical show that the right man will fix your silly little feminine boundaries like not being loudly harassed at work)

"When a woman's got a husband and you've got none / why should she take advice from you?" succinctly alludes to how marriage and full-adult status are often considered synonymous for women.

I don't know where I'm going with this, but hey: unstructured literary/cultural analysis is what Tumblr is for, right?
