Right so I wrote the first like 5 bullet points out before realizing I'm supposed to be writing about cuddles and not psychoanalyzing the characters so my bad but I'm not deleting it

I personally imagine Nil having the "tiniest" aversion to touch. He's not the closest with his family and probably hasn't gotten/given a hug from/to his parents in years (☹️), so the concept of laying down with someone and intentionally hugging them while asleep/vulnerable is alien— and gross— to him. Gross in the way it involves a bunch of touchy-feely things like raw emotion and trust and, as mentioned before, vulnerability. The thought of it makes him gag.

Dimitri, on a similar but completely different hand, is naturally easygoing and friendly with everyone, and isn't new to sharing affectionate gestures with both friends and past partners. He doesn't mind hugs— even the ones that last a little too long to still be called "hugs"— interlocking arms, arms around shoulders, sides pressed to sides in cramped seating, etc... I think he's just pretty casual about everything and knows where the line between platonic and romantic touch lies. Nil is aware of a line, but assumes anything past an awkward hug is romantic which is gross.

Then again, he'd probably like it enough if he tried it. That would probably require a long-term, established relationship with literally the only person he can say, with his chest, that he likes in the entirety of his town's population. He'd also probably require a lot of convincing and coaxing, and he'd rather die than be the first to ever initiate or crave that kind of contact, at least at first.

Nil is also prone to sleeping alone in the comfort of the woods. He's more accustomed to it, anyway. He likes Dimitri's room but really only because Dimitri's there.

This may not be the place to put it (and it may be a little gross to some), but I can't help but imagine the undersides of Nil's nails being caked with dirt. It's not like he doesn't wash his hands frequently or anything— he does— he just camps out so often and has bigger fish to fry, literally. No matter how many times he scrubs and picks, somehow dirt and debris always manages to slip beneath his already short nails. (Probably part of the reason he's so fond of black nail polish aside from it being nothing more than a neat accent to his rugged aesthetic 😎). Despite that, Dimitri doesn't really mind holding those same hands, or allowing them to cup either side of his face with remarkable, uncharacteristic gentleness, as if he's porcelain (he's definitely as pale as it).

Ok onto actual cuddling headcanons sorry sorry

Nil is stiff as a board. He's new to things like that, so of course he has no idea where to put his hands or where his legs should go. All it takes is Dimitri asking if he's got a stick up his ass, which results in some mostly lighthearted banter and tousling, for Nil to relax the slightest bit. I like to think from there he slowly "melts" against Dimitri, all typically tense or stiff muscles having gone lax almost immediately.

Dimitri is assigned "big spoon" not only because he's tallest, but because Nil is actually a huge fan of being held for once. Most of his days (and almost all of his nights) are spent in solitude in his tent in the middle of the woods. He's rarely been granted tender kindness and care— not physically, at least— that hasn't made him tense up and question if it's a joke or not.

Nil, out of habit, kicks and tosses and turns in his sleep, if he can even get to sleep at all. Dimitri just kind of accepts it. He may jab Nil in his sleep and tell him to "sleep normal" in a hushed voice, but there's really not much that can be done about that habit. And Nil kicks really hard. It probably keeps Dimitri up later than he'd like (and gives him the occasional bruise or aching leg), but it just means Nil is sleeping for once and that's all he can find in himself to care about.

Dimitri finds a way to temporarily cure or at least pacify Nil's insomnia. Rather than play his guitar, he kind of just talks, keeping his voice at a reasonable level. He rakes his fingers through Nil's stubborn spiky hair, rubs his back, maybe possibly kisses the crown of his head, as to not disturb him too much. While it does pull an awkward, flustered reaction from Nil, it does eventually lull him to sleep. I can see sleeping near/with Dimitri being enough to curb his insomnia again.

Sometimes they go camping together— just them alone. Unfortunately, they have to share one tent, which can get pretty cramped. Dimitri thinks it's funny, no big deal, and jokes that it gives him an excuse to hold Nil. Nil doesn't necessarily find it funny but absolutely lets him do it anyway. They'd share sleeping bags if they could, but Dimitri can't fit in a Nil-sized one and they both like being able to breath.

Nil can handle Dimitri laying atop of him and vice versa, it's not like he'll die. He probably busies his hands with Dimitri's hair or freckles, tracing over each one with a light finger, even the ones of his arms if he can reach. Dimitri, as mentioned before, just messes around with his hair and yaps below his breath. Both of them like listening in on the other's heartbeat depending on who's laying on who.

Nil smells like a campfire and Dimitri reeks of axe body spray and they both get on each other's tails for that. You'd get flashbanged with smoke, pine, and Axe Body Spray's "Dark Temptation" if you walked into that room.

Anywho I do canon x canon (I do everything legal and normal under the sun lmao) even though I kind of suck at it since I'm actually not very big on shipping like ever and that's probably why these are a little shorter compared to others

but it's still so fun to experiment with different dynamics and it's probably good for my brain anyway

Not being able to find fics for ur fave niche character but also being unwilling to make ur own out of fear of mischaracterizing them is a different kind of hell
