This evening marked the highly anticipated SummerSlam, a source of great excitement for all. However, Genesis found herself engulfed in nerves, anxious about her upcoming interviews with the wrestlers. The lingering memories of yesterday's events weighed heavily on her mind, fueling her desire to perform flawlessly.

In the stillness of the night, she was haunted by nightmares, visions of it breathing heavily, leaving her drenched in sweat as if she had lost control. To find solace, she would quietly slip into the bathroom, careful not to disturb Jimmy, seeking relief from the oppressive heat. Whenever solitude enveloped her, the weight of the situation would overwhelm her, leading to moments of profound despair.

How could he betray her in such a manner? All because she chose to ignore him and enjoy her time with Jimmy?

At work, she would don a mask of composure, presenting a polished exterior to everyone, including Jimmy, to spare them any concern for her well-being. It was already troubling enough to endure the unwelcome attention from one of the NXT boys affiliated with the blue brand, a situation that left her feeling quite unsettled.

She learned from Cody that Zilla would be suspended for the rest of the year. While this news brought her a sense of relief, it did not eliminate her concerns about the possibility of him continuing to stalk her, especially when no one else was present.

After enduring multiple harassing calls from him, she decided to block his number, which was taking a toll on her mental well-being. While reviewing her script to ensure she recalled the questions and statements she needed to make, she suddenly felt a pair of strong arms encircle her, prompting a startled yelp to escape her lips.

Upon catching a whiff of their fragrance, she instinctively turned her head, only to find Jimmy standing behind her, a radiant smile on his face as he showcased his dazzling grills, sparkling in the light.

“Hey my pretty girl, I texted you but I didn’t get a response.” Jimmy said.

“Oh? You did? I’m sorry friend, I got caught up with going over everything for tonight.” Genesis replied with a smile.

Jimmy sensed that something was amiss in the way she smiled. It appeared almost contrived, as if she were concealing the turmoil within her thoughts and feelings. He felt a pang of discomfort knowing she was masking her emotions; he longed to support her. “Gigi.” At the sound of her name, she met his gaze.

“Hm?” She responded.

“C’mere lets have a mini walk baby.” He spoke softly while resting his arm around her shoulder, and she understood that during these little strolls, he recognized her need to unwind and free her mind from the chaos surrounding them.

In that fleeting moment, he sensed her distress without uttering a word, and she held a deep admiration for his intuition. As they strolled away from the building, a serene silence enveloped them, the sun casting a warm glow upon Genesis' skin.

It was heartening to realize his genuine concern for her well-being, understanding her need for solitude away from the chaos of the world. As they strolled towards a secluded spot for a private conversation, she felt the warmth of his hand resting on her waist, drawing her nearer to him.

As they strolled past a nearby bridge that arched over the river, Genesis leaned forward to take in the breathtaking scenery. The gentle sound of the water cascading below mingled with the soft whispers of the wind, all while the sun began its descent, painting the sky in hues of gold. Suddenly, she sensed his footsteps drawing near, and as his hands rested on her hips from behind, she felt herself instinctively press against him.

He gently swept her hair aside, showering her neck with tender kisses that caused her body to surrender to him, soothing her very soul. He had an innate ability to know how to comfort her in these moments, and she cherished every aspect of his attentiveness.

“Gigi.” Jimmy called for her.

“Hm?” Genesis responded while looking back at him.

"You realize you can confide in me, darling, don't you? I'm here to support you. There's no need to push me away." His voice is gentle, prompting a sigh from Genesis. "I apologize; ever since yesterday, I've been overwhelmed with thoughts, and it's been difficult for me to maintain my composure."

He gently pivoted her, allowing her to gaze up at him with her wide, innocent eyes. “Talk to me baby, I’m right here.”

She let out a deep sigh, "Yesterday's events left me feeling truly shaken, Jimmy, they really did, as I've experienced something similar in the past." Jimmy arched an eyebrow, silently inquiring about her meaning.

"Quincy had previously subjected me to this, coercing me into intimacy against my will, particularly after his betrayal." She went on to express, “The experience was excruciating and harsh, leaving no room for pleasure. This trauma prompted me to embrace celibacy for five years, and now it feels as though I am experiencing it all anew.” As she spoke, she sensed her emotions fading, while Jimmy tenderly wiped her tears away with his thumb, gently holding her chin.

“You don’t have to worry about that when you with me Gigi, imma take care of you right.” Her gaze faltered, unable to meet his alluring eyes, while his voice, deep and gravelly, wrapped around each word he uttered.

“I-I, Know..”

“Look at me baby.” Upon gazing into his eyes, she discerned a profound intensity within those rich chocolate brown depths. His words carried an unspoken significance; he yearned to cherish her body, to make love to her in a manner that fulfilled her deepest desires. He wished to bestow upon her every exquisite caress until she reached the pinnacle of ecstasy.

He wished to convey that he stood firmly by her side, unwavering in his loyalty, and would go to any lengths, even resorting to violence, to protect her.

“Imma make love to you the right way Gigi, something you haven’t experienced in a while.” Jimmy said.

“What if I’m not ready? I’m scared you’ll leave if I’m not ready for you, well all of you.” Genesis asked boring into his eyes.

“Mamas, I told you imma wait for you. Until you give me the green light I’m not going anywhere princess.” He says pressing his forehead against hers.

A warm sensation enveloped her heart as she pondered the enigma that was Jimmy. His romantic gestures were abundant, leaving her breathless and struggling to keep pace. Yet, when she gazed into his eyes, searching for any hint of doubt in his declarations, she found none. His sincerity shone through, making it clear that he cherished her for who she truly was, imperfections and all.

Genesis rose onto her toes, gently pressing her lips against his in a tender kiss. He eagerly reciprocated, and as she stepped back, a radiant smile graced her face, just before he leaned in to shower her with more affectionate kisses.

Their encounter culminated in a fervent embrace, as they lost themselves in a slow, deep kiss. Their tongues danced together, exploring the depths of each other's mouths. Genesis felt his hands gently cradle her curves, his firm desire pressing against her. He trailed his lips from her neck to her jawline, before returning to the intoxicating connection of their mouths.

She embraced him tightly, her arms encircling his neck, as her fingers wove through his curls, drawing him closer with each passionate kiss.

“I love you Gigi.” Jimmy murmured between the kisses.

“I love you too, Jimmy.” Genesis murmured back.

Genesis was perfecting her makeup in the bathroom, carefully defining her lips with a lip liner pencil. After blending her lips together, she returned the pencil to her purse and retrieved her lip gloss. As she applied the glossy finish, she continued to smooth her lips, ensuring to wipe the corners of her mouth with precision.

While she was engaged in her task, the sound of the bathroom door creaking open caught her attention, though she initially remained oblivious to the newcomer until their voice broke the silence.

“So, you must be the hoe that he’s with?” Hoe? Who does this girl think she is, speaking like that? Genesis glanced over to find Trinity standing there, arms crossed defiantly over her chest.

“Hoe? Excuse me?” Genesis remarked.

“Yeah. A hoe did I stutter or something?” Trinity retorted as Genesis sighed while rolling her eyes at her. “Girl, it’s not my fault that he’s more attracted to me than you like, aren't you using him for his money?”

Trinity scoffed at her, “yeah? So? He gives me money and I give some pussy until he stopped doing all of that all of sudden and I knew a hoe ass bitch like yourself was in the picture.”

“Like I said, not my fault, maybe your pussy was trash and didn’t even want it anymore.” Trinity chuckled at her, while Genesis arched an eyebrow, puzzled by what was so amusing. She found nothing humorous in the situation.

“This is coming from a person who hasn’t had any dick after what? Five years I’m hearing? Girl if you know him he has a high sex drive and he won’t be waiting on you any longer and find someone else that can please him.” Genesis felt the weight of his words crash down on her like a boulder. Was everything he said about waiting for her merely a fabrication? Is this how he treats all the women in his life?

“He said he would wait for me, you don’t know what we be talking about.” Genesis says.

“Bitch he’s lying to you he’s not going to wait to get some pussy that’s not even good probably.” Trinity approached her, and as they stood face to face, a smirk played on her lips, revealing that she had successfully gotten under her skin.

“So you better get going little girl because once he stops waiting on you he’ll just move on to the next one so chop chop sweetheart.” As Genesis exited the bathroom, clutching her purse, Trinity lingered with a knowing smirk, relishing the thought of having Jimmy all to herself.

Genesis's gaze appeared distant as she became lost in her thoughts, reflecting on Trinity's recent revelations. The realization that she had been naive enough to trust a man like Jimmy, who had deceived her with promises of waiting, weighed heavily on her. Deep down, she understood that she was not prepared to embrace all that he was—every word he spoke had been a fabrication.

In her distraction, she failed to notice her surroundings and inadvertently collided with a robust figure. As she glanced up, she found herself face to face with Jey, whose gaze softened at the sight of her tear-filled eyes. She quickly offered an apology before turning away, leaving him no chance to respond.

Jey noticed Trinity emerging from the bathroom, a serene smile gracing her lips as she observed the entire scene unfold. Jey approached her, visibly irritated.

“What did you say to her Trin?” Jey asked sternly.

“What? I just told her the truth about your brother having a high sex drive and that he wouldn’t wait on her like c’mon Joshua.” Trinity said.

Jey shoves her gently, “why would you tell her that lie? Knowing how much my brother cares for her? And now what you did for what?”

Trinity nonchalantly shrugged her shoulders, showing little regard for Genesis. "She needs to step aside for what’s happening between him and me," she declared. Jey let out a scoff, incredulous at her words. He recognized that once Jimmy lavished her with money and attention, her behavior would inevitably spiral.

“Y’all don’t have anything going Trin! You’re just bitter as fuck because he stop giving you money and dicking you down after being Genesis!” 

“Because he was mine first! I don’t why you are standing there defending that hoe!” 

Jey raised his hands in exasperation, unwilling to continue the conversation with Trinity. He was infuriated with her actions, knowing that her deceit would only exacerbate the growing tension between Jimmy and Genesis.

As he made his way toward the locker room he shared with Jimmy, he elegantly brushed past Trinity, preparing himself for the upcoming interview with Genesis regarding SummerSlam.

In a secluded room, Genesis found herself engulfed in a mental turmoil, grappling with disappointment not just for him, but for her own vulnerability. She realized that the girl had managed to penetrate her defenses deeply, leaving her feeling exposed. Compounding her distress was the nagging suspicion that Jimmy had not been entirely truthful about his words.

At this moment, she yearned to retreat to the hotel room and allow Jackie to take charge for the evening, yet she found herself unable to do so. Her presence was essential—she couldn’t simply walk away. Taking a deep breath, she steadied herself, glancing in the mirror to assess her makeup, only to realize she appeared far from her best.

Glancing at her Apple Watch, she realized she had only a few minutes left before her interview with The Usos. Determined to present herself well, she quickly set about refreshing her makeup, hoping to conceal the disarray from Jimmy's view.

Genesis started to touch up her makeup upon noticing a text message from Jimmy. She glanced down to discover what he was seeking.

She decided to text him back.

She felt immense gratitude for Jade's guidance in perfecting her makeup for moments like these. Especially when she was overwhelmed with anger and frustration over recent events, all she desired was to retreat from everyone, including him.

She noticed the boys standing by, eagerly awaiting her for the interview regarding their upcoming match, where they would defend their tag team titles against The New Day. However, her attention was irresistibly drawn to Jimmy, whose oiled physique showcased his impressive abs and muscles, adorned with striking tribal tattoos that extended from his chest and arms up to his neck.

Adorned with a Cuban link chain draped elegantly around his neck and revealing his dazzling grills with every word he exchanged with Jey, he likely pondered her whereabouts. The sight of this striking man left her breathless, yet she composed herself as she gracefully approached, offering a wave to the cameraman.

The sound of her heels echoed as she approached, her radiant smile lighting up her face as she greeted him with a wave. She embraced Jey first, followed by Jimmy, whose gentle hand caressed her back, causing her to momentarily falter at the unexpected sensation.

Jey had an instinctive awareness that something was amiss after his confrontation with Trinity regarding her actions. Meanwhile, Jimmy observed a notable shift in her body language as she took hold of the microphone. Although she wore a smile, he recognized it all too well—it was a facade, a disingenuous expression that betrayed her true feelings.

As the interview commenced, the cameraman initiated a countdown. Genesis of The Usos began discussing SummerSlam, highlighting the multitude of matches scheduled for the evening, including their own defense of the tag team championship against The New Day.

“So it’s summerslam guys, how are yall feeling for tonight.” Genesis asked as she placed the mic towards Jey’s way.

“Gigi, we are feeling good girl! Like the weather down here is nice! The view of the city is nice! And hell maybe at the bar is hella nice too Yeet!” Jey exclaimed with a smile on his face.

“I can honestly agree with you Jey, the weather does feel nice in Tennessee but how are yall feeling today about defending your tag team championship to the New Day during the main event?”

“Honestly Gigi, we finna whoop some ass tonight. And reclaim our championships the new day don’t won’t no smoke with us for real dawg.” Jimmy's intense gaze fixed on Genesis as she spoke left her thoughts clouded and a warm sensation coursing through her. She bit her lower lip, striving to keep her composure amidst the overwhelming feelings.

She was acutely aware of his gaze, the way it lingered on her as she engaged Jey in conversation, peppering him with questions. It was only when Jimmy responded to one of her inquiries, locking eyes with her, that she felt a rush of nervous energy coursing through her. The sight of him sensually licking his lips sent a flutter through her stomach, tightening it into a knot.

“Are you guys excited about any other upcoming matches tonight?”

“Hell yeah! Can’t wait to see our boy Sami go against Kevin Owens tonight. That's going to be brutal, I know fasho.” Jimmy responded, his gaze sweeping over Genesis's outfit from head to toe, playfully teasing her with just his eyes as he licked his lips. His side profile was undeniably the most exquisite a woman could ever behold.

Genesis extended her heartfelt congratulations to them on their successful title defense this evening before the scene shifted back to Michael and Patt at the ringside table. As the cameras ceased to roll, Genesis began to gather her belongings, preparing for a well-deserved lunch break ahead of the upcoming show. While she was organizing her items, she caught sight of Jimmy, her corner man, casually leaning against the equipment box with his arms crossed, patiently awaiting her.

He gazed at her with an intensity that suggested he was poised to pounce, yet he desired the intimacy of a secluded, dimly lit room. Genesis slung her purse over her shoulder, locking eyes with Jimmy, who beckoned her to join him. With a resigned sigh, she acquiesced and trailed him to a more private setting.

05/31/2025 Pre-Game Saiou Orch Dork Fic Progress Update:

TLDR: Went over completed draft and changed around the ending a bit. Got to 10K in the process. Started editing, got 2.5K done. Anticipating will be shorter than 10K and released by next weekend.

(Most of this today is me airing out fic-writing complications and brainstorming, be warned 😵‍💫)

Sat down for like 4 hours tryna edit and only got 2.5K done ugh. Was just having a generally difficult time with this one and getting in my own head a lot. I’ve said before I’m tryna let this be low-effort and just for fun but I’m a little antsy about posting something I don’t think is great? Like like, I don’t ever think the stuff I post is *amazing*, but I try really hard to be happy with everything before I make it public. (Exception is the Rantaro and Shuichi conversation in chapter 6 lolll because I just could not figure out what was bothering me about it and just had to let it be.)

I’m wondering if a lot of this is stemming from it being a pre-game thing tho. Cuz I want Shuichi and Kokichi to sound/act like themselves when I write them. Of course I don’t always get it right, but I do pay attention to staying in-character as much as possible. With pre-game, I didn’t wanna go the “opposite personality” direction, but I also didn’t wanna just make them normal Shuichi and Kokichi either, so I’m attempting a middle ground.

But I feel like that ends up making this weird for me, because I can sorta still see both of them here but also can’t at the same time. I tried to keep both of their personalities still pretty similar to in-game (Shu’s still socially awkward as shit and Kokichi’s playful for sure) but now you’ve got this lens of them both loving Danganronpa, which is so just NOT them in-game. Like thinking about Shuichi or Kokichi enjoying what is potentially actual murder of participants in a reality show is like 😵‍💫 WHAT NO THEY WOULDN’T DO THAT WTF 🤣 So I feel like my skin is crawling just a little bit, especially cuz I tried to keep Shuichi’s audition tape very in-mind, specifically him talking about “coming up with gruesome murders”, and I’m looking at him like 🫵 IMPOSTER SHUICHI

This is weird for me cuz I haven’t like had that issue when I’ve read some pre-game fics in the past 🤔 I don’t like yandere fics, I’ve said that before, but I’ve been okay with the idea of Shuichi being a little obsessive about the show he loves.

Honestly writing all this out is making me wanna comb over it again because I’m wondering if I just maybe went *too* melodramatic with it and that’s where I’m getting stuck. It’s angsty because I mean that’s what I write man but maybe I should tone it down a bit… Hm. It’s 4:00am and I’m going back in boys.

I am a librarian, and unrelated to stereotypes about my profession, I do read a metric shit-ton in a week. Most of it is fanfiction but hey, I thought maybe it's time I share my reads?

This is what I read this week:

1. I rubbed this guy's lamp and all I got was three (?) wishes: a Luo Binghe Story by Thri_here, unreliable narratoe (Thri_here) (30,000)

Summary: What it says on the tin.

I have been obsessed with stories where Shen Yuan transmigrates as another character and this OC genie with dimension breaks is so good

I don't think there will be a second one? But the potential exists for more.

Shen Yuan was really just trying to fix things and goofed it LOL

2. Regardless of the Hardships by Ehann (137, 378)

Summary: The first thing Shen Yuan did upon transmigrating was shave that monstrosity of a mustache. What was Mu Qingfang thinking, Shen Yuan wondered, glaring at himself in the mirror?! Well, he thought, it’s too late now.

He was now Mu Qingfang, peak lord of Qian Cao peak. He might as well get used to calling himself that now, so.

This fic ruined my life in the absolute best of ways. This was beautifully written and made me weep (happy ending though!)

It is scumcum pairing (which I have grown to love- honestly I will read Shen yuan and pretty much anyone) and the emotional growth the boys go through is so so good.

Ugh, I need 12 more chapters. I love them.

Truly a healing fic.

Summary: Liu Qingge has been dosed with pollen, and Binghe knows how this goes. Except, perhaps he doesn't, because the pollen will pass on its own, no need for dual cultivation. With a catch. Well, it's only a month, and then things will go back to normal. And he definitely wants that. He knows what he wants, he's very in touch with his feelings, thank you very much.

Liu Qingge knows this will be an embarrassing and agonizing month, but he just has to get through it, and then he can go back to avoiding the happy couple. No need to deal with any messy feelings, fraught pasts, or complicated relationships. He's fine. It's fine. Everything is fine.

This fic had me CRYING! The perceived unrequited (but definitely requited!) love was too much for my soul [i loved it]

I adore poly fics, I adore bingliushen, and I love a happy ending preceded by 100k of emotional misunderstandings and angst.

Incredibly written, so good!

I will warn about some dubious consent with the dreamscape tho- binghe is binghe and the person he's in the dreamscape with does not know its actually him.

At least that’s what Wei Ying did.

Holy shit this fic had me WHEEZING. The most crack treated seriously I've read in a WHILE.

Mama Lan is an icon, a hero, and a cougar.

The second hand embarrassment almost ended me though; god LMAO

this was so emotional! My heart! It hurt for Shen Yuan.

I have never read a SQH/LBH/SY fic before and this dynamic was an absolute delight.

19/07/2023: Three chapters in, three libraries visited. Oh my, these two... 😅 Jokes aside, it's so nice to write Elizabeth and Yuriko's interactions but also Ruki and Shin's bickering.

24/07/2023: Oh boy... I felt bad when I had to write another Laito scene. Such a disgusting moment but I think it still serves the story. But I can't wait for writing sweeter scenes between Ruki and Yuriko later...

27/07/2023: I haven't been able to write as fast as I hoped, but I'm still making progress. There are so many tiny things I need to fit into this that I start to regret I decided to follow the game structure. I need to think if I want to do that in future stories or if should I simply make my own structure for those...

Also, I ordered two CG edits yesterday, instead of one. Now, I need to decide which chapter will get one. The other goes to the After Story.

28/07/2023: I hoped I would have reached Ecstasy 10 by today but I guess that was a bit high goal. Still, I'm happy with these results. And damn, I enjoyed writing Ecstasy 08 today.

31/07/2023: Oh my... It was so much fun to write Ecstasy 09 too, even though the chapter isn't happy at all. But I think Yuriko has great moments there. Poor Ruki though...

31/07/2023 || Second Note: I managed to write Ecstasy 10 and start Ecstasy Epilogue. Of course, there is still a way to go with all the endings and the After Story... but I begin to have my skeleton version here. I'm rather positive that the first draft might be finished in August. Of course, there are editing rounds to come but still... I'm pleased about this.

02/08/2023: I wrote both Brute and Manservant Ends... and oh boy, that was quite a trip. Prepare yourself for a yandere Ruki. Now, I only have Vampire End, After Story, and Special chapter left before it's time to write all the smut scenes~ My reward is almost here! 💙

03/08/2023: I finished the first draft of the Vampire End. Huh, that was quite a roller coaster. The text is terrible at the moment though, such bad writing... but since I'm going to edit the story anyway, I don't mind it at this point.

Also, my goal was 30 000 words for this story but I guess I will go past that since I reached it already and there are still things I need to add. Like all smut scenes.

04/08/2023: OH MY GOSH! The story's first draft is pretty much finished. Only the smut scenes are missing from the main story.

I will work on the special story a bit later since it won't be released on Tumblr but in the ebook version of the story. So, the next project is to scribble three different types of smut scenes. 😏 The fourth and last one will be at the end of the special chapter.

09/08/2023: Haa... I have such huge writing urges but I got an unexpected job offer for three weeks and now I'm all stressed out and tired whenever I have free time... 😢 I should stop saying yes to these odd job offers, I guess... since I already have the job I love. But I'm bad at saying no... Buuut I managed to start the first smut scene! I hope I have the energy to finish it tomorrow or the latest at the weekend.

12/08/2023: I just finished the first smut scene of the story... and I think it's the dirtiest one so far in the whole His Possession. 🙈😳 The next ones won't be this dirty I think, since they serve different purposes for the story... But gosh, I rarely turn into a blushing mess because of my own writing but this... We'll see if I edit it milder or not... 🫣

17/08/2023: Finished the second smut scene. So now, there is one to go for the main story (there will be one in the special chapter too). Soon, I can leave this story in Ruki's admin's care. Though... tbh, it might still take a while since I have been so damn tired after work. Writing has become slow and difficult because of this. But I'm trying my best. I want to publish this story by the end of this year.

20/08/2023: The main story is finished. 🥳 I will write the special later, but everything else is now drafted. Of course, there will be a lot of editing and I might even add scenes here and there but mostly the story is now formed.

Anyway, the next step is to give this in @ruki-mukami-dl's hands but I'm positive that everyone else can read it before this year ends. So, look forward to that.

09/10/2023: I got the special chapter back from @ruki-mukami-dl today. I still need to make some fixes in it, but it's mostly done. It will be published only in the ebook version of the story. But it will bring almost 20 pages worth of extra content. The chapter will be in Ruki’s point of view, and it can be rather triggering for sensitive people. But it surely was interesting to write together with Ruki’s admin 💙

Other than that, I'm making the cover for the printed book on the weekend. So, the ebook's cover is on its way, too. Then, just one final CG edit and everything is ready for November. Ah, I can’t wait to share the story!

i’ve got two excerpts to share from this chapter. they’re super no-context, you know the drill.

The door to the room had been open, so I stumbled in, rosary in hand. Safety pins were scattered on the bed, some of them bent from pressure. The windowpane and the tiles next to it were covered in talcum powder. On the dressing table were two glasses of black coffee, its dry stain in rings on the bottom of it. It smelled of sweat and American body mist. One of the two pillow covers had been burned with an iron box, leaving an eye-shaped hole in the middle. Curly hair patterned the floor. Among those, like the promised silver lining in a dark cloud, I found it – a white strand of hair, thin, wavy, and membraned in cobwebs.

the next excerpt is another one of the thousand melodramatic emotional experiences that dinah goes through.

Nothing made noise. Every lone thing that had been alive and blooming in the village had died. Every land was barren, every river was flooding, every beautiful thing had turned to dust. Every face only a blur and every sound, a cry for help. Everything bleak and bleached, everything lost. Everything was gone and yet, the lives of everyone else remained the same; remained unchanged. Every family untouched but mine. All of them fortunate but mine. Everybody in their nests but me, a raven, flying about the village with a song in its head. It had come from nowhere, cutting through my silence, and it would stay forever as a muffled hum. A somber cry.

Today, he is man more than he is son. He is tide. He beats against the shore. Today, he takes in a sweep.

this goes on for another half an hour (more or less) because austin is everybody’s favourite and he deserves the world.

chapter ten – wine hearts

I woke up in the afternoon with pain piercing through my head. I sat up in bed, clutching chunks of hair in my fists. I buried my head in the pillow and groaned, but the pain remained. I got up and went to the bathroom. I turned the shower on and stood under it, the water, cold despite the sun, falling on my skin. My skin melted under it like a glacier, heat escaping every pore that had trapped it in. I lathered shampoo into my hair and soap onto my skin. I washed myself clean, brushed my teeth, and dried my hair with a towel. I wiped my body with another and changed into a fresh pair of clothes – an olive-green T-shirt and a creme long skirt.

also runs longer and talks about more things dinah does that are… ahem… unfortunately relevant to the (no) plot.

Andrew rolls his eyes as if he had anything to do with Aaron agreeing to do the haunted house. Katelyn had been there when Renee had asked everyone to help with her charity haunted house. She was only asking them since it was unaffiliated with a church, just something she was doing as part of an outreach program she was working with this year.

Katelyn had looked at Aaron and said, "Oh it sounds like fun!" and Aaron had agreed without a single bit of critical thinking in his head. Andrew had at least considered it before asking if there were behind the scenes things he could work on.

Renee had agreed to that so he and Neil weren't actors like the rest of the Foxes were but did still need to dress up scary.

july camp nanowrimo day 04 & 05

word count: 5,738 / 30,000

progress is still being made. i struggled a bit on day 4 tbh, the part i wrote was a section i'll definitely make some changes to when i revise. but today went much smoother.

i'm on chapter 18 and oh boy, this chapter is gonna be very painful to write. the protagonist hits quite a few low moments throughout the novel and one of them is in this chapter. i hate writing angst as much as i hate reading it. i hate writing my characters in pain or in despair. i feel really bad for putting them through terrible things even though ik it's all fictional and i'm the one making it up. but ik if i write it well, it will have a big emotional impact on the reader, which motivates me to push through it. i remember when i was writing part 1 of the novel last july camp nano and writing the protagonist hitting her first major low point was such a struggle. my pace really slowed down bc of it. my writing for the day stopping literally write before the bad thing happens that causes the protagonist's low to occur, so that'll be fun to get up and write tomorrow.

lately, i've been writing in the afternoon, but i might have to write in the evening tomorrow instead bc i'm going to a wedding! it's for a friend from my university. it's kinda crazy to think i now have friends that are getting married (they were a grad student who graduated last fall so they are a couple years older than me). i'll probably be getting back home pretty late, so i hope i have time to fit in my writing for the day.

So many weird things been happening first Jackson and its family disappears now Zoe and Zachary? Who is gonna be next? And I have been seeing a bunch of big black trucks around more often and they look like the trucks that followed me around throughout all the times I moved I should probably asked my parents about it

Aristotle: hay mom?

Florence: yes angel?

Aristotle: have you seen those weird trucks driving around?

Florence: yes and that’s why we are thinking about homeschooling both you and lavender again

Aristotle:…..do we need to move again?

Florence: hopefully not if they don’t find what they are looking for they will go away

The next day at school

Aristotle: hay Charlie can I ask you something?

Charlie: yes what is it?

Charlie looked everywhere for Zachary and Jackson but he couldn’t find them anywhere Charlie has pretty much given up and he went to the alleyway that Aristotle said to meet them if they found them Charlie waited for about two hours, but but Aristotle never showed up so Charlie decided to go home

Aristotle:* kicking the truck doors* what’s going on?! Where are you taking me?!

Agent Jake: will you quit kicking the door?!

Hoo boy, this is one long novel - not just by the sheer number of chapters, but how long each chapter is. The basic premise is that life is a game and once someone dies, they will enter into the Yong Ye (tln: Forever Night) City. In order to enter into the reincarnation cycle, they would need to survive different quests. Tang Cuo happened to be a private detective who died and entered Yong Ye City. There, he met his previous military instructor Jin Cheng. 

This is one of those novels where I liked the first part more than the second part. So let’s focus on what I like about the initial half of the story first:

The main characters have more personality: Jin Cheng (yes, I admit I read his name wrong for a long time, thinking it was Zhan Cheng 斩丞 instead of Jin Cheng 靳承...) has a lot of side quirks. For example: wearing a clown make-up and applying cosmetic masks at night to ensure that his face looked good. Despite this goofiness, he is one of the top-tier players residing in the A Zone. The other main character, Tang Cuo, is the opposite: he is very cool and collected, and even dares to threaten Jin Cheng, in spite of his low stat. He is also resourceful, going so far as to use his life report book as a weapon. 

As such, there are a lot of comedic factors and room for silliness by the two main characters. At one point Jin Cheng even lured out the murderer Meng Yufei by provoking the latter and reciting his embarrassing life stories from his report book.

There is also a lot more at stake initially. Tang Cuo starts out with very low stats and every action could easily threaten his life. This poses interesting challenges where he has to fight carefully while keeping tabs of his life points.  

A sense of mystery pervades the first half of the book regarding what caused Tang Cuo's death and the relationship between the two characters back when they were alive. Clues are given throughout the start of the novel (e.g. the mysterious person who sends simple gifts to Tang Cuo) and keeps me engaged and constantly guessing.

A lot of the side characters are also pretty fun, such as the lucky Ouhuang Yu Yiyi and Chi Yan, Leng Mou - the magician who keeps on getting the short end of the stick when it came to the roles he played in various quests - and a good number of other side characters.  

Also kudos to the author for being able to work with so many characters and parallel storylines, while still keeping the plot pretty coherent!

Now, to the latter half of the book…It is never a good thing when I start asking myself when the story will end because I struggled to plough through the story:

For one, the world mechanics are...so-so. Don't get me wrong, there are some novelties: I do like the idea that players have to go through multiple scenarios which share an overarching storyline. I also like the idea of having rare musical sheets items that enable the owner to make rules within the City. However, the way that the worldbuilding is presented or paced are not very intriguing. For example, Tang Cuo and Jin Cheng have to complete this fantasy storyline with 12 sub-quests. The first few sub-quests drag on for quite awhile without substantial addition to the main storyline, whereas a few of the later sub-quests are glossed over (which begs the question of why write these sub-quests if they are unimportant). Likewise, the mechanics regarding the restrictions and extent of power that musical sheet owners are granted remain pretty vague - e.g. we don’t know how many rules the owner can make.

Also, despite there being a larger goal of reincarnating, there seems to be a lack of mention regarding what happens after the players reincarnated. Seemingly halfway through, players simply forgot about reincarnation in lieu of focusing on survival.

For all the mysteries and build-up regarding the main characters’ and side characters’ histories, a lot of the reveals are anti-climatic. Tang Cuo’s death was ruled off as him trying to complete the mission that Jin Cheng failed at, but no details regarding the mission were given. Likewise, teasers were given about how one of the minor antagonists (Black Hat) was setting up a grand scheme, when in fact, he only wanted to avenge his family. Basically, the payoff isn't satisfactory relative to the build-up. 

On the note of having so many side characters, the result is that many of the characters (even the main ones!) lacked strong personalities. There are even several characters with repeated personalities or character traits. 

Overall I’ll say this is a mediocre unlimited flow story and would suggest reading only if you really lack other unlimited flow novels to read.
