called the dentist about my appointment on Thursday just so I know exactly what's gonna happen. They'll be taking out the remainder of my upper teeth, grafting, and putting in my implants. All in one day. And I get my temporaries.
My anxiety is very high but I'm glad to be aware of what's going to happen. I've been given the okay to bring my partner along and to also take one of my anxiety pills beforehand. I'll have headphones and a star trek audio book/music. I've already taken the next two days afterwards off.
I'm as prepared as I possibly can be but I'm still freaking out lol

The Benefits of Dental Sealants for Cavity Prevention in Kids
As parents, nothing is more important than your child's dental health. Among the best ways to save a child's teeth from dental caries, dental sealants rank high. At Synergy Dental, Best Dental Clinic in Abu Dhabi, we specialize in offering preventive care tailored for kids. In this post, we will look into the benefits of dental sealants and why they are important for your child's oral health.
Tumblr media
What are Dental Sealants?
Dental sealants are thin, protective coatings applied to the chewing surfaces of your child's molars and premolars. These teeth are more susceptible to cavities due to their grooves and pits that may trap food and bacteria. A sealant acts as a barrier for cavity prevention, keeping your child's teeth healthy.
Why Choose Dental Sealants for Your Kids?
Effective in Cavity Prevention
It has been documented that dental sealants can help lower the molar caries rate by about 80%. This is because sealants simply seal the grooves to prevent damage caused by bacteria.
Painless and Quick Procedure
The application of sealants is quite easy and non-invasive. Here at our Pediatric Dental Clinic Abu Dhabi, it takes a few minutes to finish and will not make your child feel uncomfortable.
Cost-Effective Solution
Save money on future dental treatments by investing in dental sealants. Preventing cavities is always less expensive than treating cavities.
Long-Term Protection
When properly cared for, dental sealants will last for several years, giving your child extended protection through those cavity-prone years.
Why Choose Synergy Dental for Sealants?

When Should Your Child Get Sealants?
Sealants typically are placed as soon as your child's permanent molars come in, between ages 6 and 12. But even baby teeth sometimes can benefit from sealants if they have deep grooves prone to decay.

Aftercare after surgery 🦷

How the LADS men would care for you right after you get your wisdom teeth removed.
OG credit goes to @jinwoosbabyboo. Ty anon for making me aware of this!

Caleb
He'd be the most entertaining knowing how you bore easily. From card games, to video games, to tv marathons, the first few days of recovery fly by.
Insisted you get the procedure done in Skyhaven so you can recover at his place, it’s a lot roomier anyway
Is in stitches laughing on the ride home as you both joke around while you’re still high from the anesthesia
Bought a special recliner for you to sleep on the first night post op
Very attentive caretaker; routinely fluffing your pillows, changing your gauze, and refilling your glass of water
Likes the challenge of cooking a “no solid foods” meal
Is absolutely teasing you over how swollen your cheeks are
Still makes a point to tell you how beautiful you are
Boy, can this man YAP
He knows he can be quite chatty, but can’t resist annoying you a little when you can’t talk back. …There was that one time I lost a bet with Gideon, but that’s a story for another day. I’ve been talkin’ your ear off for 10 minutes.” “mmph..” “What’s that? You wanna hear more about the bet?  Okayyy pipsqueek…”
Massages your temples when the pain meds wear off before you can take them again
Ends up falling asleep next to you in the giant recliner during a Food Network marathon
Tumblr media
Rafayel
Raf’s probably the most smothering of the five since he admits he’s not the best at taking care of others and would be mortified if he had any part of your recovery not going well. He’s a lavish man after all, your comfort is important to him.
You resting anywhere other than his California king bed is out of the question!
Is incredibly gentle and soothing when changing out your gauze; lots of words of encouragement
Constantly checking in to make sure you’re comfortable
Tries really hard not to laugh when he uses bags of frozen vegetables as cold compress on your cheeks. Says you look like a cute puffer fish
Keeps forgetting you shouldn’t talk for the first 24 hours but then gets mad when you try answering him when he asks you something
Is really excited for the next couple of days when you can eat more solid foods. He’s been meaning to make you a special fish soup he discovered on one of his exhibitions abroad
Drew a tiny sketch of you as a sleeping puffer fish during your nap
Would literally fan you if you felt too hot
Loses kitty cards on purpose
Since he has you bedridden, he bought several magazines to take silly quizzes bc “That’s what they do in the movies, yeah?”
Tumblr media
Zayne
Easily the most equipped to take care of you in this situation let’s be fr. He’s firm, yet gentle and your downtime is quick and painless.
Has you on a tight schedule: nap, rinse, gauze, meds, nap, rinse, eat, gauze, repeat
You don’t even bother trying to speak. He already had a white board and marker placed on your nightstand when you got home from surgery
Has you pick whatever drama you want to watch when you finally slept off the anesthesia
Is even more lenient with the amount of sweets you can have since smoothies are the only “healthy” meal you can eat right after surgery
Is really all cuddles outside of the strict routine of dressing your wounds/taking meds
Shadow puppet show (again 🥲)
Lots and lots of kisses! Cheeks, forehead, eyelids, nose; he just wants you to get better
Places his hands on your cheeks and uses his evol as a cold compress just this once
Secretly counting down the days til he can properly kiss you again
Is still a workaholic and reviewing reports on his laptop, but takes your temporary silence as an opportunity to listen to some of your favourite music together. In a way, it’s like you’re still talking to him
Tumblr media
Xavier
He's no medical professional by any means, but he's not as clueless as he lets on. When it comes to your safety and well being, he takes looking after you pretty seriously. Under his care, you get the most sleep you've gotten in your life.
Sets up the pull out couch so you won’t have to walk around as much
Still brought you flowers and a “Get well soon” card, despite the fact that he’s the one taking care of you
Thinks you look especially cute with swollen cheeks and surrounded your sleeping form with plushies mid nap
Is especially proud of himself for making you breakfast and dinner— it’s really hard to mess up instant oatmeal and mashed potatoes
It takes everything within him not to poke your cheeks and say “chubby bunny”
Chooses to play collaborative 2-player games bc he knows you hate it when he lets you win
Gets in bed to join in on your (med induced) naps
Has you snuggle his waist as you two look through comic books
Follows along with your mushy diet because he’d feel so bad eating solid foods in front of you
Thought refrigerating a face mask would be a relaxing alternative to cold compress packs (and of course he tried one too)
Tumblr media
Sylus
Full on princess treatment. Quite literally wouldn’t let you lift a finger. It’s as if you had hip replacement surgery.
Refuses to let you walk, even after the anesthesia wears off. He carries you to any and every room
He knows it’s a minor surgery, but it didn’t stop him from buying the fluffiest pillows, comfiest weighted blankets, plushiest robe, and smoothest silk eye mask
Brushes/ plays with your hair while you sleep
Despite your temporary dietary restrictions, you still eat like a Michelin inspector thanks to his private chef
Spoon feeds you
Is the only LI aside from Caleb who can understand your muffled speech
Programmed Mephisto to set reminders to take your meds and switch out your gauze
Tucks you in *every time* you decide to lay back in bed
Turned one of his rooms into a spa. Dark, yet calming from the soft lighting of candles, crystal singing bowls from a white noise machine, and aromatherapy
Relishes in you earnestly needing his help
Bought out a full service salon for the next day to give you every service they offer

The harsh , bright glow of the operating room lights was a heavy contrast to the shadows lingering inside Y/N. Her hands moved with practiced precision as she placed the final suture inside , her focus absolute and her stitching , perfect.
The rhythmic constant beeping of the monitors was like a metronome , steady and grounding.
She carefully finished and checked the closure one last time , her gloved fingers pressing lightly against the patient’s skin.
“Forceps ,” she murmured to the scrub nurse , who handed her the tool without hesitation.
Her team moved like a well-oiled machine , everyone anticipating the next step she makes , waiting for her instruction.
The patient’s vitals were clear and stable. Alive.
The incision site was cleaned up , her stitches neat and precise as she checked over them one last time.
She let out a small breath of relief happy with work.
“Great work , Dr. Y/N,” her resident said from across the table. “Another successful vascular repair.”
“Thanks ,” she replied , voice steady even though her heart was still racing and coming down from the high. “It was a tricky case , but I’m glad we caught it early.”
The resident gave a small nod agreeing , eyes crinkling with pride behind the surgical mask. “Finish it all up and meet me in the lounge when you’re done. We’ll go over the next few cases for tomorrow.”
“Will do,” she said , exhaling a breath she didn't realize she was holding.
She finished completely with care , then gave the patient’s hand a reassuring squeeze. “You’re going to be okay,” she whispered , though the patient couldn’t hear her , currently still sedated and peaceful.
Sometimes , most of the time she said it more for herself than for them.
The post-op debrief was thankfully quick and painless.
She stripped off her blue latex gloves and paper gown , dropping them into the biohazard bin before scrubbing her hands once more.
The warm water and antiseptic clear soap was another comforting thing for her , a ritual she’d repeated so many times. Another rare safe constant in her life.
Walking out in the white hallway , she ran into Martha , one of the senior residents she’d become friends with during her short time here at this hospital.
She had that easy motherly type grin that made people feel at ease , Y/N gave her a tired but kind intended smile in return.
“Hey, Dr. Y/N ,” Martha said. “Nice save in there. I was watching from the gallery—a perfect textbook vascular control.”
She tucked a loose strand of hair behind her ear that fell from her tied up bun. “Thank you. Yeah , that one had me sweating for just a minute.”
She chuckled. “You? Please. You’re a steady rock in there. I wish I could be that collected under pressure , especially when it turns into a non-routine procedure.”
She shrugged. “You’re getting there. It’s all about practice.”
They walked down the hallway together, past a couple of nurses chatting near the buzzing station. Jamie flipped through a tablet , checking off and updating her many post-op notes.
“So,” she said, glancing over at her. “Tomorrow’s going to be another busy one. You’re on that complex ortho case with Dr. Lee, right?”
“Yeah,” she said. “And then the transplant consult on zoom for that case in Michigan after that. It’s going to be a long day.”
She whistled. “Dang , You’re a perfect machine , Y/N , you sure you don't have a metal arm or cyborg brain hidden from all of us?”
She forced a small laugh , though inside she felt anything but laughing.
Martha turned to her, setting down her tablet , expression softening as she reached out to touch her elbow.
“Hey… can I ask you something? Off the record and not hospital related.”
“Sure,” she said , adjusting her posture slightly , sitting up straight.
Martha gestured to her own face , a crease forming in her brow.
“I… I couldn’t help but notice , there’s something on your jaw. Is that…?”
She stiffened automatically , her heart skipping a beat.
She reached up instinctively , her fingers grazing the edge of a fading bruise.
Despite the heavy layer of makeup she’d carefully applied that morning, the sweat from her day started to wipe it away and it began to peek through now.
“Oh—uh, yeah,” she stammered , her voice carefully overly casual.
“It’s nothing. I… hit my face on the medicine cabinet door in my bathroom last night. Total klutz moment.” she said, huffing a laugh rolling her eyes at the memory.
A lie.
Martha's eyes narrowed just a little , forehead creasing slightly.
“That’s a pretty bad spot for a door. Are you sure you're okay?”
“It’s fine,” she cut in , a little too quickly. “Really, Martha . I was just tired and not paying attention , it will go away , I'm all good.”
She didn’t look convinced , but she gave her a slow nod.
“Okay. Just… if you ever need to talk , you know where to find me , right?”
She forced a bright smile that didn’t quite reach her eyes. “To talk about how much of a klutz I am? But thanks.”
The hallway suddenly felt too bright , too exposed. She shifted her weight from foot to foot under Martha’s eyes ,  fingers fidgeting with the hem of her scrub top.
“Hey , I’m going to head to the lounge ,” Martha said,  in a gentle tone. “But… if you ever need to get out of here for a minute , coffee’s on me.”
“Thanks,” she repeated , and she meant it.
She always appreciated her kindness—she was one of the few who noticed the little things , though she never pushed anyone to talk about them.
Martha gave Y/N one last smile , then turned and walked away , the door to the lounge swinging shut behind her.
Y/N exhaled shakily , feeling the tension in her shoulders all the way down to her tingling fingertips.
She couldn’t stand here any longer , not with the bruise so close to the surface in a place where more people could see it.
She felt it throbbing under the thin layer of makeup like a mark permanently brand on her soft skin , a secret she couldn’t let anyone else see or know.
What would they think of her , a successful heart surgeon , healing and repairing everyone around her and then getting her own shattered and broken at home almost everyday.
She shook her head pushing the thought deep down.
Turning on her heels with a squeak of her shoes on the nylon floor , she murmured something about needing the restroom to any passing nurse who happened to hear her , then quickly ducked into the nearest bathroom.
The door locked and clicked shut behind her , muffling the gentle hum of hospital life outside.
She stared at her reflection in the mirror, her breath catching in her throat.
The bathroom had slowly become a sanctuary to her , her home away from home , her safe place. A place in the hospital with no prying eyes or people wanting answers from her.
Its cracked white and gray linoleum floors and faint scent of bleach and antiseptics are a small comfort compared to the chaos of the operating rooms and waiting areas.
She leaned slightly forward over the sink , eyes locked on the reflection looking back in the mirror.
The girl staring back at her looked… tired–exhausted.
She was frayed around the edges.
Letting out a slow deep breath she was focusing on the bruise along her jaw bone. It wasn’t as dark as yesterday , but no amount of concealer could erase it wholly and completely.
She dabbed carefully with a sponge she brought in her bag on mornings like this just in case  , and began laying the foundation and color corrector in layers until the shape of his fingerprints was just a ghost beneath her skin.
A soft knock at the door startled her. “Sorry Dr. L/N , didn't mean to scare you” A nurse walked in. “It's alright Hadley , what do you need?” She answered while hastily picking up her makeup , tossing it haphazardly in the bag.
“Dr. Kim wanted to see you about the patient in three. His blood pressure is high again and his wife has questions about recovery.”
She blinked at herself, shoulders tightening snapping back to her job mindset. “Alright thank you for relaying the message i'll be there shortly, ” she called , voice smooth and steady, even as her heart hammered against her ribs.
She gave her reflection a final glance before walking out —eyes bright but wary , lips curved in a soft smile that didn’t reach her eyes.
She’d perfected this mask a long time ago.
Just another day , she thought , walking out and across the halls into room number three.
“Hi, I'm Dr. Y/L/N , I heard you had some questions for me?” she said with a smile.
Another day.
══✿══╡°˖✧✿✧˖°╞══✿══
The hallways of the hospital buzz with busy hardworking people moving from one task to the next , the air filled with the low murmur of voices and beeps from machines and the rhythmic squeak of shoes on polished flooring as the rush is in full flow.
Y/N moved through it all with practiced ease—dodging gurneys and wheelchairs , scanning charts handed to her , offering quiet reassurances in the hall and sweet greetings passing fellow doctors and hospital staff.
To her every patient was another small universe , each with their own fears , pain and obstacles.
She liked that—being needed , being able to fix other peoples worries and problems.
Being able to focus on someone else's life , even if only for a few minutes at a time with consultations or spending hours mid-surgery , she craved that distraction but one that also healed in the process.
She’d grown good at wearing that gentle smile and kind voice like armor.
Sometimes it almost felt real.
Almost.
Till she was drug right back to hell the moment she smelled the whiskey or heard the car door slam too hard after or before work.
══✿══╡°˖✧✿✧˖°╞══✿══
A few hours after the late morning rush , she found herself in the staff lounge again , stripping off her surgical cap and rubbing a hand through her hair and her fingers pressing into her temples.
Her cheeks pink ; flushed from the heat of hours standing in the OR , her hair sticking to her neck and forehead.
She leaned back against the counter next to the ancient coffee pot , letting the air of the A/C cool her skin.
She could almost pretend she was just another surgeon , exhausted but content , and ready to go home.
She sat up stretching and started gathering her charts walking through the halls with her intern for the month , Peter.
Today she was showing him how to edit a chart and put in notes and log vitals post-op.
As they rounded the wide curve of the 1st floor hallway , Peter spoke up and asked a question about where to add a new note about the recent surgery schedule change for the next day  , pointing at the paper chart but she didn't hear him.
All she heard in that moment was a low , familiar voice from the lobby desk , edged with warmth and breathy laughter.
“…yes ma'am , Sam Wilson asked me to deliver this to room 504 it's his Aunt ,” the voice was saying.
Her head snapped up harshly.
She turned , heart speeding in her chest , eyes wide , and peered around the corner into the lobby.
And she was met with exactly who she thought and hoped she heard. Bucky.
He stood at the reception desk , leaning in with a crooked smile. His hair was styled perfectly up , the ends curling slightly. He wore a worn leather jacket over a soft henley , sleeves pushed up slightly. And In his hands was two brown paper bags and a bouquet of pink flowers.
For a second , she felt like the ground had shifted beneath her feet.
“Dr. Y/L/N….did you hear my question?”
Shoot , she forgot about Peter!
She quickly answered his question and told him to go ahead and have lunch.
Peter nodded, glancing at the man she had her eyes locked on and left , pulling out his phone almost immediately texting his fellow interns.
Y/N did her best to flatten her mused hair and took a deep breath walking towards the desk.
“Bucky?” she called out , her voice catching just a little.
He turned at the sound of her voice , blue eyes widening in surprise before a slow , warm smile curved his lips.
“Hey , doll,” he said , and God the nickname was a soft echo of a different time— a secret only they shared.
It made her knees buckle but she continued and stepped forward , pressing her charts to her chest instinctively.
She could feel her pulse in her neck pounding , but it wasn't out of fear but a flicker of safety that she hadn’t felt in a long time.
“What are you doing here?” she asked , a little breathless.
He lifted one of the paper bags a little. “Sam’s aunt just got cleared to eat after her surgery,” he explained , his voice calm and easy.
“I thought I’d bring her something better than the cafeteria , nothing they got here is any good. No offense.” he said smiling at the end.
“None taken,” she replied , her laugh light and real despite everything tucked inside.
He tilted his head , studying her face.
“You look good,” he said softly. “A little tired , but good.”
She flushed , tucking a strand of hair that had fallen behind her ear. “It’s… it’s been a busy morning. But good. Yeah , I love it , you know.”
He shifted his weight , his fingers drumming lightly on the paper bag. “Wanda said you were running the department , couldn’t believe it at first. But… it suits you , I mean the white coat and everything.”
She swallowed , heat creeping up her neck.
She did a cute little turn showing off the white coat. “I know, pretty official huh? You think it fits me?” she asked , smiling truly wanting his opinion.
For a moment , everything else seemed to fade—the beeping of monitors , the chatter of nurses and families.
It was just the two of them , suspended in a moment that felt achingly familiar as he watched her.
“Doll , you're living your dream you wanted since we were kids , you were made for this , of course it suits you” He said , voice dropping a little laced with something she couldn't quite place.
That nickname again.
He was going to be the death of her if he kept that up.
══✿══╡°˖✧✿✧˖°╞══✿══
The moment stretched a little longer , quiet and comfortable , like slipping right back into an old rhythm.
They chatted softly , catching up in small bits and pieces , the little details of their lives , weaving a delicate thread between them.
“Still got your truck?” she asked , remembering the way when they were not running from something he used to take her riding through the winding back roads just to feel the wind on her face.
He grinned, that boyish flash of teeth burned happily in her memories and the same one she missed all too well. “Of course. She’s temperamental , but I can’t give her up.”
She laughed. “Sounds familiar.”
He smirked , shaking his head. “You haven’t changed a bit.”
If only you knew , she thought.
If only he could see the bruises beneath the carefully applied makeup , the way her shoulders tensed every time someone raised their voice.
She escaped one situation just to fall back into the next. Hasn't changed since they were kids.
Just at the hands of a different person.
Their conversation continued to just flow effortlessly—talks of mutual friends , stories of Sam’s endless antics nowadays , and little memories that bubbled up like warm spring water.
She glanced at the flowers Bucky held , he noticed and brought them up to their faces—a small bunch of pink lilies and tiny babies breath mixed in throughout.
“They're Sam’s aunts favorites,” he said. “I figured she could use a little color in her room.”
“They’re beautiful ,” she murmured , her fingers brushing the soft petals. “You’ve always known how to make people smile on their worst days.”
He shrugged, a touch of sheepishness in his eyes. “Just trying to help. You know how it is.”
Yeah , she thought. I do. Because she’d seen him do it a thousand times—patching up her own bruised knees , and of course offering warm hugs when the world felt too harsh and too cold..
He’d always been that way. And she was beaming knowing he's still that same boy she lov…cared for deeply , inside.
She didn’t want the moment to end between them. But the hospital never slept , and the hands of the clock marched on not caring of who or what begged it to slow or stop. Life is resuming right back to its pace.
She reached for her phone to check the time—almost 2:00pm . She had to observe a surgery at 3:30pm , and then a consult waiting for her at 4.
She sighed , already feeling the weight of it all pressing down again.
Just as she was about to excuse herself , her phone buzzed in her hand.
She glanced at the screen and felt her stomach twist.
Tyler <3
She really needed to change the contact name.
“Sorry it's Tyler ,” she showed him the contact glowing on her screen , stepping back a little as she answered.
“Hey Babe ,  I’m just finishing up with rounds.” she cringed using the name but she couldn't let anyone, not even Bucky suspect they weren't a happy in love couple.
“Where are you?” Tyler’s voice was calm , but there was an edge to it that made her chest tighten. “I’m outside. Need to switch cars with you.” he continued.
She frowned. “Oh. Okay, I’ll be right there.”
She hung up , turning back to Bucky with a sheepish smile. “Sorry. Tyler wants to switch cars , he needs the car ,  I guess I’ll have to grab lunch on the go.”
Bucky’s brows furrowed. “You haven’t eaten yet?”
“I… no.” She offered a small shrug , trying to keep it light. “Like I said, busy morning.”
“Doll,” he said softly , and the word felt like a balm against the raw edges of her heart. He reached next to him grabbing the second brown paper bag.
“Take this. I brought it for myself but I'll grab something on the way back to the restaurant , it's that grilled chicken salad you ordered the other day.”
“I can’t—”
“Please,” he cut in , his voice gentle but insistent. “I’d feel better knowing you actually got something in you.”
She hesitated , her fingers brushing the edge of the bag.
She should say no–
But the kindness in his eyes , the warmth of it… it was too much to resist.
“Thank you,” she whispered , taking the bag carefully.
Their fingers brushed , and for a moment , the world went quiet yet again.
She was tucking the bag under her arm when she saw Tyler marching in.
He was striding across the lobby , tall and immaculately put together—his dark slacks crisp , his dress shirt rolled to the elbows to reveal tan forearms.
His jaw was set , his eyes sharp as they swept over her and Bucky.
She felt her stomach clench , a flicker of unease twisting through her gut.
“Hey,” she said brightly as he reached her side. “Just grabbing some food.”
Tyler’s eyes narrowed for a split second before he smiled , all white bleached teeth and easy charm. “Yeah? Looked like you were having quite the chat.”
She forced an awkward laugh. “Just catching up. Bucky was dropping off food for a patient and had some extra for me.”
“Mm,” Tyler said , his gaze sliding from her to Bucky and back again. He leaned in , brushing a kiss against her temple all for show.
“We should go ahead and do this quickly. Don’t want to keep you from your surgery.”
She nodded , her fingers tightening around the paper bag. “Yeah. Just needed to get something to eat”
Bucky shifted , his hands sliding into the pockets of his pants.
“Good seeing you , doll, ” he said , his voice soft. “Take care of yourself, yeah?” he gave a stiff nod at Tyler.
“I will,” she promised, her throat tight. She watched as he stepped back, his smile gentle but his eyes… his eyes were searching , as if he could see all the things she was trying so desperately to hide.
He lifted a hand in a wave as he turned to go , the late afternoon sun catching the edge of his brown almost carmel hair.
She watched him cross the parking lot , watched the way his shoulders squared against the world.
He paused at his truck , turning back to catch her gaze one last time. He lifted a hand again waving , and she felt her heart catch in her throat.
She waved back , a small smile on her lips.
She turned to Tyler then, slipping her hand into his like it was the most natural thing in the world.
Like her pulse wasn’t roaring in her ears at the contact.
“Let’s get to the cafeteria,” she said softly.
He squeezed her fingers , his smile easy , happy she was back in his grip.
But she felt the steel beneath it , the way his hand tightened just a little too hard.
As they walked away together—her hand in his , the scent of Bucky’s flowers he brought was still clinging to her skin.
Tyler’s fingers tightened around hers , the pressure pulling her back to the present.
She turned to look at him, and he was already watching her—brown eyes sharp and assessing.
“What was that about?” he asked , his tone light , but she could hear the darkness beneath it.
“Just saying hi ,” she said quickly, her voice carefully even. “Like i said he was dropping off food for a patient.”
“Mm,” Tyler hummed, but his smile didn’t quite reach his eyes. “Looked like more than just saying hi to an old friend to me.”
She swallowed. “It wasn’t.”
He watched her for a moment longer, then his smile widened, all warmth and easy charm.
A play.
“Good. Let’s go grab something to eat, yeah? You’ve got that surgery soon , and I'm starving. Had meetings back to back.”
“Yeah,” she murmured, slipping her hand more firmly into his. “Let’s go.”
They walked together into the elevator, hitting the button to the fourth floor , her fingers still wrapped in his slightly twitching wanting escape—his grip was harsh enough to remind her who she belonged to.
She stood idle as the elevator started ascending , but in her racing mind Bucky's final wave and smile lingered , smokey taking up her thoughts.
But as Tyler’s hand guided her toward the cafeteria doors feeling the warm sun on her face from the window lined hallways  , she felt the usual chill settle back into her bones.
And she knew that no matter how bright the sun was , the shadows weren’t done with her yet.

Night Blooming Flowers
A Leona Kingscholar x f!yuu fic
Word count: 1273
(ok I know I usually do gn!yuu but this one's for me especially, capiche?)
The incident at Styx didn't leave many people unscathed and even though the majority of those involved made a full recovery, a certain prefect wasn't so lucky.
Tumblr media
She didn't realize it until it was over. She just saw Grim being flung off of Ortho's shoulder and Vil trying desperately to grab him while also holding on to Idia. Her body moved before her mind and she barely had time to shout at Rook to keep her afloat before her body was free-falling through the air, one arm outstretched to grab the direbeast's paw.
She remembered holding Grim against her chest and the sudden change in momentum knocking the wind out of her chest. She remembered solid ground beneath her feet, people talking, getting on to a plane, and the sound of someone wailing until they touched down in the NRC sports field. It wasn't until Deuce shouted,
"Yuu, your face!"
that got her body out of auto-pilot. She moved to lift her right arm to touch her face when she realized she'd lost all feeling in said arm.
There was nothing to be done. Lilia surmised that because she had absolutely zero magic in her there wasn't anything stopping the underworld from directly draining the life from her cells and no room for magic to restore it either.
Now she's lying there in her room for the n-th sleepless night, her entire right forearm replaced by a styx-made prosthetic. The amputation procedure was unbelievably quick and painless and the top-of-the-line prosthetic that responded to her brain's signals just as well as her real arm would made the rehabilitation period practically negligible. No, that wasn't the problem. The problem was on her head, literally. The underworld had killed off some of the cells in her face and hair. The doctors were able to prevent the cells from going necrotic but you could still tell where they were from the white tips of hair and patches of skin on her face.
After tossing and turning for who knows how long she gave up and got out of bed. Not wanting to wake Grim who was snoring peacefully on his side of the bed, she left the room, closing the door as quietly as possible.
She walked with no particular destination until she reached the botanical gardens, which had been perfectly restored in record time thanks to the diligent efforts of the Shrouds. She was making her way through the temperate zone of the garden towards the subtropical zone where most of the night-blooming flowers grew when she stepped on a strange branch.
"I'm starting to think you're doing this on purpose."
She jumped like a cat seeing a cucumber. Leona's tail retreated towards him as he sat up, letting out a yawn,
"What are you even doing here at this hour?"
"I could ask you the same question."
Leona growled, "I was sleeping, obviously. Until I was so rudely woken up."
"Well pardon me your highness." She said while rolling her eyes, "Please forgive this peasant's transgression and go back to your peaceful slumber."
She turned to walk away when Leona called out to them. When she turned around the lion was on his feet, his face a mixture of annoyance and something else she couldn't make out in the dark.
"You never answered my question."
"I couldn't sleep." she sighed, "and there are flowers in here that only bloom at night."
She tried not to stare as Leona approached her. Bathed in the moonlight like this, she was reminded that the lazy lion she has a crush on was actually a prince. A part of her wanted to run away but her feet stayed rooted in place, all she could do was try not to make eye contact until he was stood right in front of her.
She didn't see the way his eyes drifted to her forearm nor the pained expression that clouded his face for a split second.
"Does it hurt?" he asked.
"No. It did the first few days but not anymore. It's like I never lost it really. These on the other hand..." Her hand reached up to touch one of the white patches on her skin.
"I mean they don't hurt but... they look kind of grisly don't they?" She said while letting out a dry chuckle.
A silence fell between the two of them. Neither one really knew what to do. Leona was the first to speak up,
"Ipomoea alba"
She looked up at him in confusion. Leona just kept going as he started to walk, leading her towards the subtropical zone.
"Agave amica, Zaluzianskya ovata, Gardenia jasminoides. You don't even know the names of the flowers you're going to see?" his tone was playful but not mocking.
He explained how most night-blooming flowers are white because they don't 'waste' resources to color their petals instead, their only goal is to reflect the light of the moon.
"Where are you going with this?" she asked.
They stopped in front of one of the blooming gardenia bushes. Leona let out a frustrated sigh, running a hand through his hair as he turned to face them again, "Do I have to spell it out for you? You're like those flowers. You didn't waste any of your resources and had one goal, to save that weasel. These marks—" his hand reached out, hovering just above her cheek, "—are just proof that you succeeded."
Every word he said was steeped in his unshakeable confidence. As if the patches on her cheeks couldn't possibly stand for anything else. Maybe it was that confidence that made her grab his hand and press it against her face.
"Thanks, Leona." she muttered, closing her eyes.
"Hey, look at me." He gently tapped a finger against her cheek, making her open her eyes again, "I want to kiss you. May I?"
He could feel her blush through his gloves. She gave him a shy nod but that wasn't enough to satisfy the lion prince,
"No. I need to hear you say it."
Of course he did. She was currently face to face with one of the princes of the Sunset Savannah and if she couldn't hold her ground, she would surely be devoured. So she swallowed her embarrassment and, for the first time that night, looked him straight in the eye,
"You may, Leona Kingscholar."
He smiled, "That's my girl."
Then he closed the gap between them. The kiss was filled with feelings that no longer needed to be spoken out loud. When they broke away Leona kept his forehead pressed against hers, one of his hands tangling itself in her hair.
"I love you." she said, her gaze once again filled with that spark that had the audacity to twist his arm into helping her with her plan lest she made a racket in front of his room for the rest of the year.
He couldn't help but laugh, a deep, warm laugh that echoed through the empty garden.
"Took you long enough." He said, pressing another kiss on to her cheek.
"Stay at Savanaclaw with me tonight?" he mumbled.
"I'd love to but I can't. Grim would freak out if I just disappeared like that."
"Damn weasel..." he growled, burying his head into the crook of her neck. "Fine."
But despite saying that, he didn't let go of her. Instead, he picked her up and took her back to his usual nap spot before getting comfortable on her chest.
"Leona, I said—"
"I heard what you said." He huffed, "You'll be back in Ramshackle before the sun rises, I promise. For now just, stay here with me. Okay?"
She sighed, using her left hand to stroke his ears while the other one rested on the small of his back, "Alright."

If you're someone who can get pregnant and you're scared right now I HIGHLY recommend going to planned parenthood (if you have one near you) and getting the nexplanon implant. It will last the next 4 years and it's like the most effective form of birth control because there's no possibility for user error. They also are really great about financial help if you don't have insurance. There's not much we can do to feel safe right now but knowing it's very unlikely for me to get pregnant under Trump does give me a little peace
I love you planned parenthood 💖

patience is a virtue - jj maybank
Tumblr media
Summary: you finally get on birth control, which means you and jj finally get to raw dog it, whoop
Warnings: 18+!!!!!!!! SMUT, p in v sex (reader is on birth control but theoretically both parties are tested and clean and exclusively sleeping with each other), little bit of praise kink, cream pie, fluff? soft jj <3
wc: 2771 wtf 🫣
A/N: so I decided to start writing again and then this happened lol. I’m probably rusty and this is my first time writing for jj so I hope it’s okay and y’all enjoy!!!<3
Jj had been counting down the days until your doctor's appointment. You were finally getting on birth control, the arm implant, to be specific. You had done your research, as well as an initial consultation with your doctor to go over all of your options and decided that the ‘one and done’ route would be the best for you.
You and jj had been together for a little over a year, using condoms every time you had sex. As much as you both liked the security of you not getting pregnant, you both wanted more, you both craved more. Not only that, but you had irregular and horribly painful periods and when your doctor mentioned that being on birth control could stop your periods, that was more than enough to convince you to take that step.
The day finally came, though, and jj insisted on driving you to your appointment, ignoring your assurance that it was a quick and easy procedure.
“jj, it’s not like I’m getting put under for a major surgery or something, it’ll probably be only like ten minutes. No medicine or anything.” You told him as you buckled your seatbelt. There was no changing his mind.
jj rolled his eyes as he started up the twinkie, already having made arrangements with john b over a week ago to let him borrow the van.
“I know, baby, but this is a big moment, wanna be there for you.” He said with a grin, pulling onto the road and starting towards your doctor’s office.
“Well, I appreciate it. I honestly think you’re more excited than I am.” You giggled, glancing over at your boyfriend as you pulled your hair up into a ponytail.
“Now what makes you say that?” He teased, knowing damn well he had this appointment marked in his phone calendar and his extra ass even drew a dick and a smiley face on your little desk calendar you had.
You had arrived shortly after, and just as you predicted, the whole appointment only took about ten minutes and was pretty painless. jj waited in the car for you to be done, smiling ecstatically at you once he saw you make your way out the office doors and towards the twinkie.
“How was it? Did it hurt?” He asked as soon as you got into the car, looking at your arm that was now wrapped in a bright pink bandage.
You shook your head, leaning across the seat to softly kiss your boyfriend, his hands finding your hair first before slowly trailing down your body to rub on your thighs as he deepened the kiss. You knew exactly what he was trying to do, so you pulled away with a laugh.
“Nope, nope, don’t even think about it. This thing doesn’t start working for seven days.” You told him, smiling innocently at him as you watched his face drop. You swore all the light in his eyes left his body for a second. He was so dramatic.
You were obviously disappointed too. It would have been nice to go straight home and have what would probably be the best sex of your life right away. But then you would have to go and buy a Plan B, and then this would all be for nothing.
“Now what the fuck? How are they gonna call this shit modern medicine but that shit doesn’t start working for a week?” jj scoffed, one of his hands still resting on your thigh while his other raised to softly graze your bandage, “like, they put a whole ass stick in your arm. What’s it even doing for these seven days? Just sitting in there doing nothing? They really need to make advancements to this shit.” he rambled on, but he couldn’t help but start laughing once you did.
“You are the most dramatic person I have ever met. We just gotta wait it out. Although, with all this anticipation, hopefully you can last more than a minute.” You mumbled the last part, your gaze leaving jj’s as you buckled your seatbelt, knowing he would start huffing over your comment.
And that he did, huffing as he started the car, running his fingers through his hair. “That’s — shut the fuck up. Don’t act like this won’t be torture for you, too.” He mumbled back, backing out of the parking lot and heading towards the chateau.
It had been a long week since your appointment. You and jj had never gone this long without having sex. You could have still used a condom in the meantime, but after a conversation in bed the first night, you had both decided to wait until you could do it raw for the first time. You were struggling, to say the least, but you had more composure than jj did all week.
He wasn’t making it easy though. The way he cuddled against you in bed, his hard dick pressing into your lower back made you crave the feeling of him inside of you. You almost caved multiple times every time he touched you, you just wanted more. But he respected your agreement, even though it was just as torturous for him. Touching your skin, seeing the way the bottom of your ass cheeks stuck out of the bottom of your shorts, all he wanted to do was rip your clothes off and bury himself inside of you. But he could wait, it would be worth it.
It couldn’t have been more perfect timing. Day seven had finally come around and your beautiful and wonderful friends all happened to have plans, which meant you and jj had the chateau to yourselves. It truly felt like a gift from god.
It was late morning, the soft glow of the sun peaking through the sheer blinds of the bedroom jj had made his own had woken you from your sleep. jj was still sleeping soundly next to you, his face pressed against your neck, an arm draped firmly across your waist.
“jay,” you whispered, softly rubbing circles on the back of his neck, your face being close enough to leave soft kisses in his messy blonde hair.
“mm- oh, fuck,” jj rasped, quickly gaining consciousness as he realized it was finally morning. He was so excited to sleep last night because it meant the next day would come quicker. It was like a kid on Christmas Eve. “it’s time?” He lifted his head from your neck, rolling himself over so he was on top of you, his hands holding himself up above your head on the pillow.
“It’s time,” you giggled, reaching up to cup his cheeks, “I’m done being patient. Need you inside me.” You whispered, and at that, jj leaned down, connecting your lips. He wasn’t completely rough, but he wasn’t gentle, and god did you miss this.
Your lips didn’t part from one another as his hands moved their way down your body. His fingers fiddled with the hem of his t-shirt that clad your body, yet another thing making him absolutely feral.
You disconnected to breathe, and so that he could lift your shirt above your head, discarding it on the cluttered floor. You looked up at him, now only in your panties, finding that familiar comfort that lived in those beautiful blue eyes of his.
“Fuck, missed seeing you like this, baby.” He panted, his breath hot on your skin as he lowered his mouth down to your tits, his tongue circling your sensitive nipple as you gasped, reaching up to entangle your fingers in his hair.
He soon took your whole nipple in his mouth, humming in satisfaction against the warm skin, while also lowering his body to grind his boxer clad dick against your wet center. He was achingly hard, no doubt his boxers were already stained with the precum that was eagerly leaking out of his sensitive tip.
You whimpered softly as he grazed his teeth against your nipple as he sucked sloppily, the feeling of his mouth on you making your center pulsate harder.
“jj, need you, please..” you whined, grinding your hips up against his dick, the fabric beneath the two of you was too much. You needed him.
“Okay, baby, okay,” he breathed, pulling his mouth off of your nipple with a pop, leaving the skin red and wet, “need to taste you first.” He added before scooting down further on the bed, giving himself enough room to pull his shirt over his head and discard it with yours.
He quickly repositioned himself in front of your legs, his ring clad fingers cold on your skin as he pushed your knees apart, sliding his hands up your thighs as he spread your legs. He was met with your underwear which you could feel was soaked, and you were sure it was quite the sight for him to see.
“Jesus, fuck, you’re soaked.” He hummed, palming his hands up and down your thighs until he reached the waistband of your underwear, his fingers not hesitating to pull the fabric down your legs and off of your body completely.
“There she is,” jj smiled at the sight of your pussy before him, running a finger through your wet folds, circling your entrance and sliding it back up to rub torturously slow circles against your clit. He was acting as though your pussy was his best friend who he hadn’t seen in months. Again, he was dramatic.
“Please, jay, fuck, you — you can’t torture me now, ‘s been way too long.” You whined, your eyes shutting for a moment as you clenched around nothing, his touches making your veins feel like fire. You needed something.
“M’kay, baby, I’m sorry, I’m sorry, just missed this. Don’t like not having you for so long.” He finally gave in, lowering his head to finally take you in his mouth, his tongue flicking quickly against your clit as his wet lips closed around it, sucking the sensitive bud in his warm mouth.
You couldn’t hold back the moans that fell from your lips, the feeling of his mouth finally on you mixed with the soft breaths leaving his nose that was pressed against your pelvic bone was everything.
“That’s right, that’s good, yeah? Just what you needed?” He pulled back for only a moment to glance up at you as you nodded quickly in response before his middle finger teased your wet entrance. Without another word, he pushed his finger inside of you, bringing his mouth back on your clit at the same time as he began pumping his finger inside of your tight pussy, not missing the sweet gasp that left your parted lips.
He got a rhythm going as he always did, eventually adding his index finger, stretching your tight walls around his fingers as his mouth moved sloppily against your clit. It was a wet mess already, his chin and fingers completely soaked with your juices, the sound of your moans and his soft praises filled the room as he quickened his pace, bringing you closer to your high.
“I’m close, fuck me, I’m gonna come-“
It took only a few more pumps from jj, the way he curled his fingers perfectly, not missing a beat as your stomach tightened before contracting, your eyes squeezing shut as you moaned loudly, reaching forward again to grip tightly onto your boyfriends hair, pulling rather hard as your orgasm took over your body.
Your pussy clenched around his fingers as he pulled them out, bringing them up to his lips to lick them clean as he grinned lovingly at you.
“That’s good, baby, you’re so good for me,” he cooed, leaning down once again to press a sweet kiss onto your sensitive clit, making your breath hitch as you came down from your high. “You ready for me now? Been dreaming of this since I met you.” jj studied your face for any sign of hesitation, brushing a loose strand of hair that had fallen by your eyes.
“I’m ready, please, need to feel you.” You responded rather quickly, wholeheartedly enjoying the foreplay, but this is what you had been waiting for, you were ready to feel him fully.
“I got you, I got you…” he gave a quick kiss to your lips before sitting up and removing his boxers. His cock sprung free, happily unrestricted now, his tip red and swollen, precum now leaking out down his shaft.
You watched as he gave himself a few quick pumps, lubricating himself with his precum before positioning his cock in front of your pussy, gathering your wetness onto his tip before lining himself up with your entrance.
One hand held his cock as he slowly pushed himself inside of you, the other holding your bare waist. It was immediate euphoria for the both of you. You both had no idea what utter pleasure had been beneath the thin condom you had grown so accustomed to.
jj paused once he bottomed out, his eyes meeting yours as you nodded profusely for him to keep going. He needed a second, your joke about him not lasting was now fresh on his mind, but he was determined to make this last for the both of you, and he would be damned if he didn’t give you at least one more orgasm.
“Fuck me, Y/N, holy shiiitt you feel so perfect. So perfect for me. Pussy was made for me.” He groaned, taking a deep and shaky breath before he felt like he could begin moving again.
And so he did, his thick cock pushing in and out of you as you desperately reached up to grab the back of his neck, your fingernails digging into the soft skin making his little curses and moans grow louder.
Sex had never felt this good before, no barriers at all, just jj, completely jj. Watching his eyebrows furrow in pure and utter pleasure as his lips parted was sending your stomach into a frenzy and realistically you both knew that this first time going raw wouldn’t last too much longer, but that was okay.
“Love you, love you, feels so good, just— fuck, harder, please, I’m close.” You whined, your pussy clenching around jj’s cock as he quickened his pace, his hand that was holding your waist now moving down to rub at your clit, knowing that was going to do it for you.
“C’mon, baby, let go, yeah? Come for me, fuck — love you so much, so so good..” he praised, his cock hitting your sweet spot so perfectly while his fingers worked tirelessly against your clit, and that was all it took for your orgasm to hit you at full force, showing no mercy as your back arched, your fingers digging even deeper into your boyfriend’s skin. You didn’t even know what words left your mouth as you rode out your high, but you couldn’t care less.
jj’s gaze left your eyes as he looked down at the sight of his cock sliding in and out of your pussy, juices everywhere, no doubt leaving a mess on the sheets. But the sight of that alone, mixed with the euphoria of being inside of you completely raw, not to mention the way your pussy clenched repeatedly around his cock, that was it for him. He pushed in one last time, his tip hitting deep inside of you as he came, truly inside of you for the first time. Thick spurts of come shot into you as he completely lost his composure, his arms unable to hold him up any longer, collapsing against your bare chest.
“My baby, god, fuck, I love you so much, you’re… ahh, fuck.” jj moaned one last time, needing a moment to catch his breath before he could move again. What felt like forever was only a few seconds, however, and he slowly pulled his softening cock out of you, not missing the way you winced at not only the sensitivity but the loss of fullness.
Taking a breath, jj leaned over the side of the bed to grab his t-shirt, gently wiping up his mess that was now spilling out of you. He made a mental note to put a towel down next time, might save a load of laundry, and a shirt.
“You did so good, baby. I’ve never felt so good in my fucking life.” He kissed your swollen lips once he finished wiping you up, smiling tiredly at your sweet post orgasm face, cheeks pink with a small but satisfied little smile on your lips.
“Yeah, no, that was well worth the wait.”

How to have cancer
Tumblr media
THIS WEEKEND (November 8-10), I'll be in TUCSON, AZ: I'm the GUEST OF HONOR at the TUSCON SCIENCE FICTION CONVENTION.
Tumblr media
I've got cancer but it's probably (almost certainly, really) okay. Within a very short period I will no longer have cancer (at least for now). This is the best kind of cancer to have – the kind that is caught early and treated easily – but I've learned a few things on the way that I want to share with you.
Last spring, my wife put her arm around my waist and said, "Hey, what's this on your rib?" She's a lot more observant than I am, and honestly, when was the last time you palpated your back over your left floating rib? Sure enough, there was a lump there, a kind of squishy, fatty raised thing, half a centimeter wide and about four centimeters long.
I'm a 53 year old man with a family history of cancer. My father was diagnosed with lymphatic cancer at 55. So I called my doctor and asked for an appointment to have the lump checked over.
I'm signed up with Southern California Kaiser Permanente, which is as close as you come to the Canadian medicare system I grew up under and the NHS system I lived under for more than a decade. Broadly speaking, I really like KP. Its app – while terrible – isn't as terrible as the other apps, and they've taken very good care of me for both routine things like vaccinations and checkups, and serious stuff, like a double hip replacement.
Around the time of The Lump, I'd been assigned a new primary care physician – my old one retired – and so this was my first appointment with her. I used the KP app to book it, and I was offered appointments six weeks in the future. My new doc was busy! I booked the first slot.
This was my first mistake. I didn't need to wait to see my PCP to get my lump checked over. There was really only two things that my doc was gonna do, either prod it and say, "This is an extremely common whatchamacallit and you don't need to worry" or "You should go get this scanned by a radiologist." I didn't need a specific doctor to do this. I could have ridden my bike down to the KP-affiliated Urgent Care at our local Target store and gotten an immediate referral to radiology.
Six weeks go by, and my doc kind of rolls the weird lump between her fingers and says, "You'd better go see a radiologist." I called the Kaiser appointment line and booked it that day, and a couple weeks later I had a scan.
The next day, the app notified me that radiology report was available in my electronic heath record. It's mostly technical jargon ("Echogenic areas within mass suggest fatty component but atypical for a lipoma") but certain phrases leapt out at me: "malignant masses cannot be excluded. Follow up advised."
That I understood. I immediately left my doctor a note saying that I needed a biopsy referral and set back to wait. Two days went by. I left her a voice message. Another two days went by. I sent another email. Nothing, then a weekend, then more nothing.
I called Kaiser and asked to be switched to another Primary Care Physician. It was a totally painless and quick procedure and within an hour my new doc's intake staff had reviewed my chart, called me up, and referred me for a biopsy.
This was my second mistake. When my doctor didn't get back to me within a day, I should have called up KP and raised hell, demanding an immediate surgical referral.
What I did do was call Kaiser Member Services and file a grievance. I made it very clear that when I visited my doctor, I had been very happy with the care I received, but that she and her staff were clearly totally overloaded and needed some kind of administrative intervention so that their patients didn't end up in limbo.
This is a privilege. I'm a native English speaker, and although I was worried about a serious illness, I didn't have any serious symptoms. I had the ability and the stamina to force action in the system, and my doing so meant that other patients, not so well situated as I was, would not be stuck where I had been, with fewer resources to get un-stuck.
The surgeon who did the biopsy was great. He removed my mass. It was a gross lump of yellowy-red gunk in formaldehyde. He even let me photograph it before it went to pathology (warning, gross):
https://www.flickr.com/photos/doctorow/54038418981/
They told me that the pathology would take 2-5 days. I reloaded the "test results" tab in the KP website religiously after 48 hours. Nothing was updated. After five days, I called the surgical department (I had been given a direct number to reach them in case of postsurgical infections, and made a careful note of it).
It turned out that the pathology report had been in hand for three days at that point, but it was "preliminary" pending some DNA testing. Still, it was enough that the surgeon referred me to an oncologist.
This was my third mistake: I should have called after 48 hours and asked whether the pathology report was in hand, and if not, whether they could check with pathology. However, I did something very right this time: I got a phone number to reach the specialist directly, rather than going through the Kaiser main number.
My oncologist appointment was very reassuring. The oncologist explained the kind of cancer I had ("follicular lymphoma"), the initial prognosis (very positive, though it was weird that it manifested on my rib, so far from a lymph node) and what needed to happen next (a CT/PET scan). He also walked me through the best, worst and medium-cases for treatment, based on different scan outcomes. This was really good, as it helped me think through how I would manage upcoming events – book tours, a book deadline, work travel, our family Christmas vacation plans – based on these possibilities.
The oncologist gave me a number for Kaiser Nuclear Medicine. I called them from the parking lot before leaving the Kaiser hospital and left a message for the scheduler to call me back. Then I drove home.
This was my fourth mistake. The Kaiser hospital in LA is the main hub for Kaiser Southern California, and the Nuclear Medicine department was right there. I could have walked over and made an appointment in person.
Instead, I left messages daily for the next five days, waited a weekend, then called up my oncologist's staff and asked them to intervene. I also called Kaiser Member Services and filed an "urgent grievance" (just what it sounds like) and followed up by filing a complaint with the California Patient Advocate:
https://www.dmhc.ca.gov/
In both the complaint and the grievance, I made sure to note that the outgoing message at Nuclear Medicine scheduling was giving out false information (it said, "Sorry, all lines are busy," even at 2am!). Again, I was really careful to say that the action I was hoping for was both a prompt appointment for me (my oncologist had been very insistent upon this) but also that this was a very broken system that would be letting down every patient, not me, and it should be fixed.
Within a couple hours, I had a call back from KP grievances department, and an hour after that, I had an appointment for my scan. Unfortunately, that was three weeks away (so much for my oncologist's "immediate" order).
I had the scan last week, on Hallowe'en. It was really cool. The gadget was awesome, and the rad-techs were really experienced and glad to geek out with me about the way the scanner and the radioactive glucose they infused in me interacted. They even let me take pictures of the scan visualizations:
https://www.flickr.com/photos/doctorow/54108481109/
The radiology report was incredibly efficient. Within a matter of hours, I was poring over it. I had an appointment to see the doc on November 5, but I had been reading up on the scans and I was pretty sure the news was good ("No enlarged or FDG avid lymph nodes are noted within the neck, chest, abdomen, or pelvis. No findings of FDG avid splenic or bone marrow involvement").
There was just one area of concern: "Moderate FDG uptake associated with a round 1.3 cm left inguinal lymph node." The radiologist advised the oncologist to "consider correlation with tissue sampling."
Today was my oncology appointment. For entirely separate reasons, I was unable to travel to the hospital today: I wrenched my back over the weekend and yesterday morning, it was so bad that I couldn't even scratch my nose without triggering unbearable spams. After spending all day yesterday in the ER (after being lifted out of my house on a stretcher), getting MRIs and pain meds, I'm much better off, though still unable to get out of bed for more than a few minutes at a time.
So this morning at 8:30 sharp, I started calling the oncology department and appointment services to get that appointment changed over to a virtual visit. While I spent an hour trying various non-working phone numbers and unsuccessfully trying to get Kaiser appointment services to reach my oncologist, I tried to message him through the KP app. It turns out that because he is a visiting fellow and not staff, this wasn't possible.
I eventually got through to the oncology department and had the appointment switched over. The oncology nurse told me that they've been trying for months to get KP to fix the bug where fellows can't be messaged by patients. So as soon as I got off the phone with her, I called member services and filed another grievance. Why bother, if I'd gotten what I needed? Same logic as before: if you have the stamina and skills to demand a fix to a broken system, you have a duty to use them.
I got off the phone with my oncologist about an hour ago. It went fine. I'm going to get a needle biopsy on that one suss node. If it comes back positive, I'll get a few very local, very low-powered radiation therapy interventions, whose worst side effect will be "a mild sunburn over a very small area." If it's negative, we're done, but I'll get quarterly CT/PET scans to be on the safe side.
Before I got off the phone, I made sure to get the name of the department where the needle biopsy would be performed and a phone number. The order for the biopsy just posted to my health record, and now I'm redialing the department to book in that appointment (I'm not waiting around for them to call me).
While I redial, a few more lessons from my experience. First, who do you tell? I told my wife and my parents, because I didn't want to go through a multi-week period of serious anxiety all on my own. Here, too, I made a mistake: I neglected to ask them not to tell anyone else. The word spread a little before I put a lid on things. I wanted to keep the circle of people who knew this was going on small, until I knew what was what. There's no point in worrying other people, of course, and my own worry wasn't going to be helped by having to repeat, "Well, it looks pretty good, but we won't know until I've had a scan/my appointment/etc."
Next, how to manage the process: this is a complex, multi-stage process. It began with a physician appointment, then a radiologist, then a pathology report, then surgery, then another pathology report, then an oncologist, then a scan, then another radiologist, and finally, the oncologist again.
That's a lot of path-dependent, interdepartmental stuff, with a lot of ways that things can fall off the rails (when my dad had cancer at my age, there was a big gap in care when one hospital lost a fax from another hospital department and my folks assumed that if they hadn't heard back, everything was fine).
So I have been making extensive use of a suspense file, where I record what I'm waiting for, who is supposed to provide it, and when it is due. Though I had several places where my care continuity crumbled some, there would have been far more if I hadn't done this:
https://pluralistic.net/2024/10/26/one-weird-trick/#todo
The title of this piece is "how to have cancer," but what it really boils down to is, "things I learned from my own cancer." As I've noted, I'm playing this one on the easiest setting: I have no symptoms, I speak and write English fluently, I am computer literate and reasonably capable of parsing medical/technical jargon. I have excellent insurance.
If any of these advantages hadn't been there, things would have been a lot harder. I'd have needed these lessons even more.
To recap them:
See a frontline care worker as soon as possible: don't wait for an appointment with a specific MD. Practically any health worker can prod a lump and refer you for further testing;
Get a direct phone number for every specialist you are referred to (add this to your phone book); call them immediately after the referral to get scheduled (better yet, walk over to their offices and schedule the appointment in person);
Get a timeframe as to when your results are due and when you can expect to get a follow-up; call the direct number as soon as the due-date comes (use calendar reminders for this);
If you can't get a call back, an appointment, or a test result in a reasonable amount of time (use a suspense file to track this), lodge a formal complaint with your insurer/facility, and consider filing with the state regulator;
Think hard about who you're going to tell, and when, and talk over your own wishes about who they can tell, and when.
As you might imagine, I've spent some time talking to my parents today as these welcome results have come in. My mother is (mostly) retired now, and she's doing a lot of volunteer work on end-of-life care. She recommends a book called Hope for the Best, Plan for the Rest: 7 Keys for Navigating a Life-Changing Diagnosis:
https://pagetwo.com/book/hope-for-the-best-plan-for-the-rest/
I haven't read it, but it looks like it's got excellent advice, especially for people who lack the self-advocacy capabilities and circumstances I'm privileged with. According to my mom, who uses it in workshops, there's a lot of emphasis on the role that families and friends can play in helping someone whose physical, mental and/or emotional health are compromised.
So, that's it. I've got cancer. No cancer is good. This cancer is better than most. I am almost certainly fine. Every medical professional I've dealt with, and all the administrative support staff at Kaiser, have been excellent. Even the doc who dropped the ball on my biopsy was really good to deal with – she was just clearly drowning in work. The problems I had are with the system, not the people. I'm profoundly grateful to all of them for the help they gave me, the interest and compassion they showed, and the clarity and respect they demonstrated in my dealings with them.
I'm also very grateful to my wife, my parents, and my boss at EFF, all of whom got the news early and demonstrated patience, love, and support that helped in my own dark hours over the past couple of months.
I hope you're well. But you know, everyone gets something, eventually. When you find yourself mired in a broken system full of good people, work the system – for yourself and for the people who come behind you. Take records. Make calls.
Look after yourself.

𝐇𝐨𝐥𝐝 𝐦𝐞 𝐭𝐨 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭
Namjoon x Reader
✿ 𝑨/𝑵: Just a silly little thought
°•. ✿ .•°
“Yourethpretty” the guy with the open mouth and wide crossed eyes said beneath the harsh lights in your office.
“Thank you” you laughed, watching the anesthesia kick and his consciousness fade. Jungkook, your patient, had been worried about getting his wisdom teeth removed, but you had assured him that the procedure was quick and mostly painless, if a bit uncomfortable.
And quick it was. Soon enough Jungkook was stirring and coming back to his normal self.
Well, almost.
“Yourethpretty” he repeated in a slurred manner and you thanked him again kindly “You know, my dad isth single.”
“Really?”
“Yesth” his voice was solemn as if discussing a matter of great importance “I think you should take him outh.”
At this point, you were having a hard time holding back your giggles “Based on your age, he might be a bit too old for me.”
“No!” he exclaimed, exasperated, almost knocking your tools “Not my dad, dad. Like, my work dad.”
“Your…Work dad?”
“He actsth like he doesn’t want a girlfriend but now that Hyung isth engaged, I can see…” his eyes went cross again and it didn’t seem like he could actually see anything really “He’s lonely” he whispered at last. “So I’m trying to find him someone and you’re really pretty.”
“So I’ve been told.”
“So… Will you go out with him?”
“Jungkook…”
“He’sth tall” he continued, set on selling you on the idea of becoming his… Work step mother, you supposed “big dude. Big man titties.”
“Jungkook!”
“And he readsth! Poetry! He’sth a feminist!”
“Jungkook…”
“He’sth clumsy because he’sth gangly like one of those gasth station inflatable tube man that goes SWOOSH!”
At this point, you were actively holding down your patient, but you couldn’t lie and say you weren’t intrigued. Your last few dates had been nothing but a bust, ending with you jumping through the italian place’s window to hide in your bed and rewatch Ocean’s Eight and hold back a sob, so the idea of a tall, muscular man that read poetry caught your ears.
Alas, Jungkook was still flopping around under you and that demanded that immediate attention. “Jungkook!” you called, trying to hold the much stronger man down as he very avidly replicated the contemporary dance moves of a wacky waving tube man. “Jungkook, please stop moving, you’ll hurt yourself… Ok, ok! If you stop moving, I’ll go out with your dad.”
“He’s too old for you!
“Your work dad!”
Jungkook froze. “I’ll hold you to that.”
“Jungkook” someone called from outside before the door opened, revealing a tall man with shaved hair on the sides and a shirt stretching dangerously across his pecs. “Sorry, the secretary said I could come in. I’m Namjoon, I’m here to take him home.”
You shared a look with Jungkook, who wiggled his eyebrows suggestively, drool still coming out of his half open mouth.
“Yeah, you can hold me to that.” you whispered.

Salad is a Four Letter Word
Tumblr media
Soooooo Venom seems to be popular again, especially with my new pal @ticklishdeadpool so this one is for you, buddy! 🍻
While I don't think I'm going to see the new movie I did decide to dig into my graveyard of abandoned fics. Found this WIP that I had started after the first movie came out and have now filled in all the gaps for your viewing pleasure. It was a little tricky as I haven't seen the movie in awhile, but hope I did okay. For that reason, I probably won't be writing anymore Venom fics for the current time, but at least this one will be out there now.
It's a totally nonsense-type of fic. lol Didn't really have anywhere that I was going with it so it had been abandoned, but still just fun, silly interactions between Eddie and Venom. With tickles of course! Me, write a fic without tickling? 🤣 Good one.
If you have a flesh-loving alien inside of you, you don't threaten to force him to eat salad. 😆
Venom (Movieverse)
Word Count: 2,546
"What are we doing here? We don't like this place."
Eddie let out an exasperated groan as he stood in the lobby of the hospital, waiting for the elevator to come back down.
"I already told you, Anne just wants to be safe and have Dan check me out. You know, just in case my body is having any adverse effects to you practically living inside me."
"We can assure you it is not," Venom gave an offended growl from inside of him just as the elevator doors opened.
"Yeah, well as much as I'd like to believe you we'll let the body scan decide that," Eddie nodded as he stepped into the elevator and pushed the button to the correct floor.
"Eddie doesn't trust us," the symbiote accused, prompting Eddie to roll his eyes as they moved up the floors of the building. For a powerful super alien from outer space he could sure be sensitive sometimes.
"Shut up, it's not that it's just that I need proof. I'm a reporter, and I like to have the facts."
"The fact is you're being a traitorous piece of shit."
The elevator finally stopped as they reached the selected floor and Eddie walked out into the hallway. He sighed heavily once he stopped in front of the door to Dan's office; his eyes looking up towards the ceiling as if trying to find his calm.
"Tell you what, if you behave here then we'll go get some McDonald's after this. Fair?"
"....Ok, deal. But lets make it a quick visit! I'm hungry!"
"You're always hungry," Eddie shook his head as he opened the door where the doctor and Anne were waiting.
"Hi Eddie, really nice to see you again," Dan welcomed him as he stood up from his desk and walked around to shake Eddie's hand.
"You too. Uh sorry we're late. My alarm didn't go off, and when I was trying to get out the door Venom was being his usual primadonna self and-Gaah!" Eddie grunted when a single symbiote tendril reached out and poked him in the ribs, just under the armpit.
"Keep talking, Eddie," Venom hissed threateningly; his head popping out from his host's back and wrapping himself over the wide shoulders.
"Well now I see who wears the pants in this relationship," Dan laughed, but it died out when Eddie gave him an annoyed glare, not finding his joke amusing in the slightest.
"It's a good thing you're a doctor and not a comedian."
"And it's a good thing you're a reporter and not a giant loser....oh wait," Venom snickered to himself while Eddie glared back at him.
"That's it. Deal's off."
"NOOOOO!!!" Venom wailed in sorrow as Eddie gave a smug grin and reconfirmed his earlier comment.
"See? Primadonna."
"Come on, guys, take it easy. This will all be quick and painless," Anne tried to break it up, though always finding their antics to be amusing.
"Yeah, it shouldn't be bad at all. Very standard procedure. So if you're ready we can get this all underway."
Eddie was then handed a hospital gown to change into as Dan led the way down to the lab.
.......................................
"Alright, buddy, we're gonna do an MRI now, and I know you don't like that so take a hike for a minute," Eddie instructed the alien as he gestured a thumb away from himself.
"Do I have to?"
"Just do it, would ya?"
"Ohhh ok," Venom grumbled as he seeped out of Eddie onto the floor, mostly forming into a blob, but with a serpent-like head extending out. Eddie blinked for a moment and then smirked down at the symbiote.
"You know, I never noticed how cute you actually look like that."
"We are not cute!" Venom glared up at him as Anne looked the symbiote over and nodded.
"You kinda are," she agreed with a grin, causing Venom to hiss and slither off out of the room.
"Well lets get this over with before Venom has a heart attack from not eating for thirty minutes," Eddie joked, purposely saying it loud enough for the alien to hear.
"It's been an hour, you prick!"
"Ooooh sorry, one whole hour! Someone better call CPS on me," Eddie rolled his eyes and climbed up onto the table. He then laid down with his arms at his sides as Anne looked back at Dan to give him the go ahead.
"Alright, we're all set. Here goes nothing," Dan said over the speaker as he controlled the conveyor to slide into the tube until only Eddie's legs and feet were sticking out, "Now try not to move and this won't take long."
"Got it," Eddie nodded, but with the position he was in Anne couldn't resist teasing him a little.
"Comfy in there?" Anne grinned playfully, running a finger up the bottom of Eddie's bare foot as the man yelped and jerked his leg.
"He-Hey! Well not when you do THAT!"
"Sorry, it's just too easy," she briefly tickled his other foot receiving another squawk of objection as Eddie pulled up his knees to put his feet flat on the table.
"Heehee, stop it!"
"Get him again, Anne," Venom goaded into the microphone from where he sat next to Dan inside the control room as Eddie yelled back at him.
"Shut your mouth, parasite!"
Dan was trying to remain professional, but had to use his hand to cover his mouth so he could hide his amused smile.
"Lay still, please. Anne, leave the patient alone."
Anne smirked, giving him a wink as she walked away to join Dan and Venom. Once he saw that she was at a safe distance Eddie put his legs back down.
A few moments later the machine came to life and began the in-depth scan, while the three observed on the monitors in the control room. After a minute of looking at the pictures on the screens Dan cleared his throat.
"Hmm. Well that's interesting...," the doctor trailed off in his thought, making Eddie assume something was wrong.
"What? What do you see?! He hasn't been snacking on my organs, has he?! Venom!"
"Actually everything looks perfectly normal. Organs are all intact, no restrictions in your blood flow, heart looks healthy, brain functions are top notch. All in all I'd say you check out just fine. It's incredible," Dan put his hands up in astonishment as he sat back in his chair.
"So you're saying that having Venom inside of him hasn't done any damage whatsoever?"
Anne was just as surprised to learn this new information as Dan shook his head in response.
"Not that I can see, no."
"Told you, pussy," Venom sneered haughtily, slithering out of the control room back into view while the conveyor drew Eddie out of the machine.
"Well that's a relief," Eddie sat up and immediately began putting his clothes back on, "Guess I can sleep better tonight knowing that this parasite inside me isn't leeching off of my body so much."
"That can easily change if Eddie keeps calling us names...," the symbiote growled as Eddie just shook his head with an amused smirk. Dan then walked out into the room, scribbling some notes onto a clipboard.
"Alright, well since we're all done with that it's safe for Venom to get back into your body now."
"Yes!" Venom whooped as he quickly hurled himself at Eddie, knocking him back onto the table.
"Hey! Watch it!" Eddie grunted as he then found himself forced off of the table to his feet.
"Come on, lets go Eddie! Now!" Venom shouted as he took control and yanked Eddie's body across the room towards the door much to the surprise of the other two.
"Uhh, goodbye?" Anne gave an awkwardly half-wave.
"I promised him McDonaaaaaaald's!" Eddie's voice faded as Venom violently drug him out of the room.
A SHORT WHILE LATER....
"Happy now?" Eddie asked with a sickened frown as he recanted watching Venom devour over ten quarter pounder cheeseburgers. The alien belched in response from inside of him as they walked down the sidewalk.
"Yes. That will probably hold us over for another hour or so."
"You know, you're a pretty expensive date," Eddie groaned as he looked into his wallet, only having a few dollars remaining now.
"Would you rather we ate a human instead?"
"Uhhh no, heh. No, I'd appreciate if you didn't do that," he laughed nervously as he glanced around at all the people on the busy street that Venom could easily snatch up if he so desired.
"Well then you shouldn't complain. Besides, you love us."
"In a really screwed up kinda way, yeah I guess so," Eddie smirked, "Now shut up, will ya? People are gonna think I'm crazy if they see me walking around and talking to myself."
"People already think we are crazy," Venom pointed out, making Eddie shake his head.
"Not complete strangers. Now not another word until we get back home. Got it?"
"But Eddie we can't stay quiet that long..."
Eddie just kept his mouth closed, pretending he didn't hear anything.
"Eddie...."
Still Eddie continued to ignore him
"EddieEddieEddieEddieEddie!"
Eddie just continued facing forward as he focused on getting back to his apartment down the street.
"Ignore me will you...," Venom then grinned slyly as he crept out underneath Eddie's jacket to stay unseen and then gently squeezed the man's shirt covered ribs, making his body jerk in an unusual fashion.
"Gggnnh! You little...!" Eddie yelled just as he was passing a mother with her child, who looked at him accusingly as she pulled her daughter closer and hurried on.
"I'm...I'm sorry, I didn't mean....Not her, I just....," he tried to explain himself as he stammered after them to no avail, hearing the mother mention something to the little girl about, 'That is why you don't do drugs'.
Venom chuckled at how perfect the timing of that had been as Eddie growled.
"Alright, very funny. Now stay still and stay quiet," he muttered, trying not to move his lips too much as his outburst had attracted some unwanted eyes.
He'd made it another half a block before his sides were being attacked again as he stumbled and clamped his arms down.
"Eeheehee!" He gave a high-pitched giggle, prompting some of the street vendors to give him odd looks as he blushed and tried to walk a little faster.
"Will you stop? You're making me look insane."
"Can we talk again?"
"No!" Eddie hissed, "Just keep your fucking mouth shut, and wait until we-Ehahahah!"
The tentacled goo dug into his armpits for a few moments as Eddie squirmed in place and laughed wildly.
"No, not there!" He yelped just as the tickling stopped, looking up to find people had paused on the street to stare at him with curious eyes.
"I uh...heh.....I'm just uhhh....," when he couldn't think of any kind of believable explanation he quickly just turned and walked away again.
"I hate you so much right now," he whispered loudly through gritted teeth, hearing Venom laugh from within and knowing he was getting a big kick out of making Eddie look like a fool.
"Think that's funny? Well guess who's eating nothing but salads for the next week or two."
Venom's snickers immediately were cut off as he was now silent for a moment.
".....You're bluffing," his voice was full of uncertainty and worry and that made Eddie smirk, knowing he had the upper hand now.
"Tickle me again and find out, fucker," Eddie threatened vaguely, and just let Venom stew in his thoughts for now about whether he was being serious or not.
It seemed to work as he had now made it a few blocks without incident, even stopping to have a nice chat with Mrs. Chen when he came across her sweeping up her store front.
"Evening, Mrs. Chen."
"Hello Eddie. Not going to buy a chocolate bar today like usual?"
"No, no chocolate. I was thinking about going on a diet actually," Eddie smirked slightly as he rubbed at his stomach.
"Ohhh, he's not going to like that," she smiled, referring to Venom and knowing that he was the one who had the sweet tooth.
"Well it's for his own good. Besides he's been misbehaving a lot lately so I had to put my foot down. Say you don't happen to sell any saHAAlads, do yoohou?" His body spasmed out of nowhere as the shop keeper gave him a concerned look.
"What's wrong, Eddie? Are you ok?"
"Yeah, I'm f-INE! I'm juhust....Venom keeps....teehehehehee...I...I gotta go-ho, Mrs. Chen," Eddie stuttered through his giggles as he gave her a wave and continued on his way down the street.
"Don't worry, dear, he'll be back for that chocolate," Mrs. Chen called to Venom with a smile as the alien peeked out from under the back of Eddie's jacket and gave her a wink.
"V! What did I tell you?!" Eddie spat once they were out of earshot, "You really want to eat nothing but salads for a week?!"
All was quiet for a few moments before Venom finally gave a reply that made Eddie's skin crawl.
"Worth it."
A split second later and the tendrils were everywhere on his upper body; this time staying underneath his t-shirt to get directly at the bare skin. They were wriggling all over from his hips and belly all the way up his sides into his armpits, and there was nothing Eddie could do to try to hide his reactions.
The man was in a laughing fit now as he nearly fell over but managed to find his footing and continued to hurry down the sidewalk despite all the people staring at the hysterically laughing man as he went by. The tickling was unrelenting this time as he desperately looked for some kind of escape.
He finally was able to duck down an alleyway, stumbling and tripping over a garbage can as he went further down. After giving a brief look to make sure no one was around he collapsed with his back against a wall and shouted through his laughter.
"Okaaahaay! Okaahaahaaay! Hahahaha! You caahaan tahahalk agahahain! Now pleeeheease st....stop tihihickling meeheee!" His arms uselessly pressed to his sides as he kicked out and squirmed.
"And the salads.....?" Venom pressed with goo squirming up to tickle the reporter's sensitive neck as well, making him squeal out giggles.
"A johohoke! Juhuhust a johohohoke! Ahaahahaheeheehee! Plehehease buhuhuddy! I'm sohohorry!" Eddie shouted for mercy and was grateful when it was granted to him as he tried to calm down and get his breath back. Venom then popped out of his jacket to give him a shit-eating smile.
"Nice of you to come around, Eddie."
"....You're an asshole," Eddie glared playfully at him, giving him a small shove.
"Takes one to know one."
"Yeah? I thought I was a pussy?"
"Yes, but you're our pussy," the symbiote replied as Eddie's face gradually twisted in revulsion.
"Uhhh, thanks? I mean, that hardly sounds like a compliment, but thanks?"
"The best pussy we've ever had," Venom grinned proudly, in his mind thinking that had sounded better as Eddie only sighed and put his face in his palms.
"Please stop."
"Definitely the biggest."
"You can still eat me, right?"

hi sex witch,
This may be out of your wheelhouse, and I understand if it is, but I’m tryin anything. I’m getting an iud on Friday (woohoo we love birth control) and I’m TERRIFIED. I’ve had an iud before that ended up being a really rough experience, and I remember the insertion vividly. My doctor already gave me something for my anxiety, and I’ll be taking as much NSAIDs as a person my size can have, but what tips would you recommend for helping with the soul crushing fear. I’m autistic and trans, so I’m also dealing with the general fear many of us have of doctors. Tbh even if it’s shit like “here is exactly what to visualize while someone is elbow deep in your gulleyworks” would be great. Thank you sm
hi anon,
if you have someone who'd be willing to go with you, straight up call the facility where you'll be getting your IUD and ask if you can bring an emotional support person with you during the insertion.
if that's not allowed, or you don't have someone available to tag along on short notice, it's also worth asking if you could have an emotional support nurse or other employee who's there specifically to be your buddy during the procedure. not as comforting as a friend, maybe, but it's nice to have someone whose full focus is on offering you reassurance instead of trying to divide their attention between you and your IUD.
other things I've heard of people doing to up their own comfort levels: bring a stuffed animal or fidget toys, ask if you can play your own music during the procedure (and if headphones are appropriate, if you'd feel better with them, but that's a solid Maybe since your doctor will likely need to make sure you can hear them), wearing a little scent that helps you feel calm, staying very focused on something on your phone during the procedure, making aggressive smalltalk with anyone else in the room while it's happening. me personally, I have a bitch of a time with pap smears, so I always have my examiner verbally walk me through everything they're doing, completely with counting down how much time it will take so I know exactly how long I'm bracing for.
informing the person doing the implant that you're feeling Fucking Scared will also be helpful right out of the gate and help them know what to expect as well; get everybody on the same page and work together to make the procedure as quick and relatively painless as possible.

A/N: I tried to change this up a bit, I hope it comes out the way you were expectiting.
As you stood outside of the doctor's building unease began to weave its way through to your brain, nitpicking at everything you'd been doubting for the last few weeks.
"We can turn back anytime," Minho promised, his hand on your power back rubbing it in small circles as you thought about it.
The two of you had been struggling to conceive for a while now and this was the best doctor in the fertility world. Someone who was renowned for his successful pregnancies in couples that hadn't been able to have a baby before.
"I want this," You told him, your voice barely coming out above a whisper as you slowly walked into the building. Today was going to be a good day, you were determined to go through with this. Besides, it was just going to be a series of small injections for the next few months so you would be more fertile.
After filing in forms and waiting for not even five minutes you were already taken through to a small office area where Dr Matthews was waiting. For someone who was world-renowned, he didn't seem that busy with many patients but you weren't going to slam him for it. The quicker you were seen the faster you could get pregnant and finally have your and Minho's child.
"Thank you for coming in, Yn, Minho. I understand you're struggling to conceive?" He gestured for you to sit across from him and you took Minho's hand in yours.
"We've been trying with no luck, we started to lose hope until someone told us about your practice."
"Your hormonal injections, my friend Laurie had it a few months back," You told him with a small smile, you could still remember the day she told you she was pregnant, practically bouncing off the walls at work.
"Medicine has come a long way, I know you've been seeing a few nurses so I'll check over their notes and we can start with the first procedure." He smiled warmly at you before walking into an adjoining room and leaving you and Minho alone.
"We're going to have a baby," Minho whispered excitedly to you, his heart hammering against his chest at the thought of finally having a child with you. It had been all the two of you had dreamt about for months now and it was finally going to happen.
"We shouldn't tell anyone what we're doing until we're sure it works though," You told him, you didn't want to get any of your friend's hopes up in case it didn't work.
"Sure. Maybe we can do an announcement party," Minho seemed over the moon about everything and it only made you love him more for it.
"Miss YLN, Come right through. I'll set you up." A nurse said with a pleasant smile, opening the door for you and letting you walk inside.

"You might feel a slight pinch but other than that this will be completely pain-free." The nurse explained as you sat on one of the beds, your legs apart and staring at the ceiling. You'd done this a million times before in doctors' appointments but every time you still felt awkward about it.
"Does this procedure have a good outcome for couples who have trouble to conceive?" You asked, mostly trying to avoid any silence in the room.
"I would say so, almost every couple I do this for end up pregnant." She giggled, and your eyes squeezed shut as you felt the pinch she'd referred to, followed by her smile.
"Done. See, quick and painless." She announced, peeling off the gloves and throwing everything into a bin.
"Just wait for a few more minutes before you join your boyfriend and you'll be good to go."
"Don't I need to book another appointment?" You frowned, the injections were supposed to be once a month,
"Oh, right. Sure. Arrange that with the receptionist." She said with a smile but you could have sworn you'd seen a flash of confusion on her face but she was quick to leave the room.
"Weird," Minho laughed as he walked into the room after she left, a frown on his face as he came over to kiss you on the top of the head.
"I've never seen a nurse run before, did you yell at her for hurting you?" He teased, but you shook your head at him.
"Didn't even hurt, maybe a slight pinch." You shrugged a little and laid your head back on the seat, smiling at the thought of finally getting your chance at being a family.
This was going to be your last attempt before the two of you would foster kids, deciding that if you couldn't get pregnant it was a sign to give another kid a chance instead.

As a month passed following the procedure you began to feel weaker, you put it down to the injections taking it out of you but it had been a month since your first one and you hadn't heard about a second one yet.
"I was thinking we could all hire out a restaurant," Jisung said as you walked into the room, you, he and Minho were all planning a birthday party for your shared friend but you had to admit your mind was off elsewhere. Mostly trying to focus on everything around you since a wave of dizziness had just washed over you.
"Babe? You okay?" Was all you heard before everything went black, Jisung was up in a flash to check on you and Minho was already calling an ambulance.
"Did she take anything?" Jisung asked as he looked down at you, he sat you between his legs and Minho shook his head.
"She had some fertility treatment a month ago, we've been trying to get another appointment but we're getting ignored." He grumbled angrily if the doctor had done anything to put you in any kind of danger he was going to have their head on a stick,
Tumblr media
At the hospital, medical staff quickly attended to you, running all kinds of tests to determine what was going on and why you'd suddenly collapsed.
"I want to go home." You told Minho as you sat up in the bed, it had been hours of tests and blood work taken and no one was telling you anything but Minho was boiling with anger. The thought of something happening to you because of some injection was sending him wild.
"What if there's something wrong with the injection? That because of their negligence you're going to be sick?" He ran his hand over your cheek and you sighed a little, you hated to think of it but you knew he was right. There could be anything wrong with you now and you needed to get to the bottom of it whether you liked it or not.
"Yn, Minho, we've finally got some results." A doctor said as he walked into the room, a giant grin on his face.
"I believe congratulations are in order." He said as if that made his announcement any clearer to the two of you, you changed a bewildered look with Minho and shook your head.
"What?" Minho frowned, neither of you having any idea what he was talking about.
"You're pregnant." The two words you would have given anything to hear months ago that seemed damn near impossible now.
"N...No, that can't be right," You laughed, more nervously than anything else. The treatment wasn't finished yet and there was no way that you could have been pregnant after one injection.
"This has to be some kind of joke, I haven't finished my treatment plan." You shook your head at him, laughing in disbelief.
"I assure you, this is no joke. The tests are conclusive. You're expecting a baby." You stared at him and then back at Minho.
"We're having a baby..." You whispered to him, but how was it possible? You were told it wasn't going to be a sure thing until your third and final injection but now you were expecting?
"We need to go and see Dr Matthews." You told Minho, your hand squeezing his as he nodded in agreement. Something wasn't sitting right with any of you.
Tumblr media
"A mistake!?" Minho screamed at Dr Mattews as you sat across from him, your mind was still trying to process what he had just said to you.
"Yes. It happens, communication somehow lacks and then mistakes happen." He said with a small smile as if any of this could ever be entertaining to anybody.
"A mistake is forgetting to pick up your lunch. A mistake is accidentally knocking something over!" Minho seethed, his face red with anger.
"A mistake is not impregnating my girlfriend with someone else sperm!" The statement finally sank in as you stared down at the name plaque on Dr Mattews desk.
You were pregnant something you should have been over the moon about but you were pregnant with someone else's baby.
Someone you didn't know.
Someone who wasn't your boyfriend.
"I'm so so sorry! It was a mix-up, I never meant for this to happen." Dr Mattews pleaded with you both but it didn't change what happened, you were pregnant with someone else's kid and your heart shattered for Minho.
"Who's is it?" You finally spoke out, your voice cracking since your throat was so dry, you stared at Dr Mattews.
"I can't disclose that." He grumbled, shaking his head as if he had any place to stand in all of this. He was lucky you weren't taking him to the police for what had happened to you.
"You shouldn't have had your hack nurse get her pregnant but here we are." Minho hissed at him, the man was quick to run through your notes, finding the folder and flicking through it.
"A man named Han Jisung." The rest of the world seemed to go quiet as Dr Matthews told you that you couldn't tell the man about any of it.
"It's a friend of ours," Minho said defeatedly, sitting back in the chair as his heart sank at the mention of your long-term friend.
"I'm deeply sorry, it was a terrible mistake on our part. The nurse who did the procedure is long gone." Dr Matthews continued to blabber on but your mind was still stuck on the fact that you were carrying Jisung's child.
"Out of all the people in the world." You scoffed, walking back to your car hand in hand with Minho who was laughing a little.
"What do we do?" You asked, your eyes falling onto him as he took in a deep breath.
"I don't know, but we'll figure it out together. Like we always do." He promised you. With heavy hearts you got into the car, trying to figure out a way to tell Jisung the truth about all of this. He had a right to know after all.
Tumblr media
Despite everything you decided it was best for Jisung to know as soon as possible about it all, that he deserved to know if he was going to be a dad but you had no idea how to bring it up.
The three of you were sitting at your place having some tea together as you tried to come up with a way to approach the topic without sounding insane.
"Jisung, have you ever sold your sperm?" Minho asked suddenly, you spat out your tea and stared at him, kicking him from where you were sitting.
"W...What? Why would you ask me that?" He laughed feeling uneasy about where this was all coming from,
"It's just a question." Minho shrugged before you sighed, putting down your glass and shaking your head.
"I'm pregnant." You announced but not in the way Jisung had been expecting, he thought you would have been over the moon about it.
"It's yours." You whispered, slowly sliding him the piece of paper with all of his information on it, something you'd had to seriously persuade Dr Matthews to give to you. Biting down on your lip you slowly took Minho's hand in yours and began to explain everything to Jisung about the mix-up and he listened attentively the whole time.
"Wow, I...I don't even know what to say. T...Thanks for telling me," He stared at you with a different look in his eyes,
"We understand it's a lot to take in, we're still trying to process it ourselves." Minho chuckled anxiously and you nodded.
"No, no, it's okay. Actually, I feel honoured. Honored to be a part of this child's life in any way I can." You stared at him, in complete shock.
"What?" You whispered, Minho squeezed your hand a little.
"You want to be involved?" He stared at his best friend who nodded, a smile tugging onto the corners of his lips.
"Absolutely. I may not have expected this, but now that I know, I want to be there for him...or her." He said, his smile growing wider while your heart sank.
"Will you try and take him from us?" Your voice trembled and Jisung's smile dropped as he realised what it must have sounded like he wanted.
"I meant...I want to be a godfather, an uncle, whatever you need me to be." Relief washed over you both as you stared at him, completely touched by his generosity.
"Thanks, Jisung. It means a lot." Minho smiled before hugging his friend. All of you starting to discuss what this all meant for you all, it was completely unconventional but you couldn't wait to start your family together.
Tumblr media
As the years passed and your child grew, you, Minho, and Jisungforged a strong bond rooted in love, trust, and shared experiences. Jisung had become an integral part of your lives, serving not only as a godfather but also as a trusted friend and confidant. Your son always called him Uncle Jisung, finding someone to go to if he ever needed it and felt as though he couldn't come to you or Minho about it. Tonight, you and Minho found yourselves in need of a babysitter for your son. While you were initially hesitant to leave your child in Jisung's care, you couldn't deny the genuine connection he had formed with your family over the years.
"I don't know, Minho. Are you sure we should leave him with Jisung? What if something happens?" You knew it was unlikely that anything would go wrong in the space of four hours but you were nervous about everything. Minho placed a reassuring hand on your shoulder, his eyes filled with confidence and trust.
"He has proven time and time again that he's responsible and caring. We can trust him with our son." He reminded you, you nodded, still feeling a twinge of anxiety, but knowing deep down that Minho was right. You walked into the living room to find Jisung already sitting with your son getting the movies ready on the TV.
He'd come round with blankets and lots of snacks to have a movie night with him.
"Are you ready for some fun with Uncle Jisung?" He yelled out, your son beamed up at him, his excitement palpable as he eagerly nodded his head.
"Thank you for doing this, Jisung. We really appreciate it." You smiled warmly, it was going to be your first date in a long time and you had to say you were a little nervous about that.
"Of course, Yn. You know I love spending time with him. Everything will be fine, I promise."
With a final reassuring smile, you and Minho bid farewell to your son and headed out for your evening, trusting in the bond you had forged with Jisung and the love that surrounded your family.
As you enjoyed your time together, you couldn't shake the feeling of apprehension lingering in the back of your mind. But with each passing moment, you found yourself relaxing, reassured by the knowledge that your son was in capable and caring hands.
When you returned home later that evening, you found your son fast asleep, a contented smile on his face. Jisung greeted you both with a grin, his eyes sparkling with pride.
"He was an absolute angel. You have nothing to worry about." Tears of gratitude welled up in your eyes as you embraced Jisung, overwhelmed by the depth of the bond you shared and the unwavering support he had provided to your family. With tears of joy streaming down your cheeks, you whispered,
"Thank you, Jisung. Thank you for always being there for us." Jisung returned the embrace, his own eyes glistening with emotion.
