There is no comparison between Soulless Sam and Demon Dean. For how much I enjoy Demon Dean (especially in first with my sammy), Soulless Sam was an amazing character and performance.

The same for Samifer. The best Lucifer. Even Jensen said this (for RoboSam and Samifer). When Matt Cohen had to interpret Michael, Jensen sent his the episode 4x05, saying: do what Jared is doing.

Absolutely, Soulless Sam was a league of his own. I loved how Jared played him subtle in the beginning where he feels like Sam but something is not quite right. The hooker, the lying, the stronger stance. Soulless Sam uses Sam's full height to seem intimidating whereas Sam hunches, makes himself look smaller. Later we see him embrace his Soullessness to the extent where he is willing to sacrifice Bobby! Like, hello! Cold blooded much? but that's exactly what I loved about him!

I was excited about Demon Dean tbh but sadly it fell flat for most part. The only part I loved was him manipulating Sam into thinking he was no different than Demon Dean tricking a random guy to sell his soul. They made Dean a demon but didn't know what to do with it other than making him bff with Crowley. I'm sorry, you are telling me a trained hunter with volatile anger turned demon with the Mark of Cain just dicked around like a frat boy? Nope! He should have been ruthless. Hunted Sam down, been hyper cruel to him. I kept waiting for "what I'm gonna do to you, it ain't gonna be mercy" like where was that?!! 😭😭

Thinking about Dean's anger over the Jack situation. How at first it's impersonal and he just doesn't trust Lucifer's kid. Then he starts to like the kid. Sees him wanting to do good, even when he makes mistakes. Then he thinks of him as family; as their kid. And then Jack's dying and Dean's scared of losing him. (The regret of how cruel he was to the kid and the time lost. How he can't make up for it.) And despite Jack making some kind of peace with dying, Dean can't handle the grief of losing him (none of them can, but this is about Dean). And despite his misgivings about using Jack's soul to power his resurrection, Dean is the one that convinces Lily Sunder. Then, of course, he's scared of losing Jack again by him burning through his soul. Only to find out too late the kid he thought was theirs...isn't there anymore. And how does he reconcile the fact that Jack likely burned his soul out killing Michael-- fixing Dean's fuckup?? Once more, the soulless embodiment of someone he loved -- who loved him enough to sacrifice his soul -- is roaming the earth doing god knows what. But this time, Dean can't fix it and he can't pretend it didn't happen -- can't pretend it doesn't cut soul deep that the kid that burned out his soul to save them killed his mom because it was gone -- so he's gonna wrap all that guilt up in anger, push the betrayal/blame on Cas, and tell himself that's not Jack just like RoboSam wasn't Sam.

But see, the thing is, in his own way, soulless Sam was obsessed with Dean. He was lacking the emotions behind the attachment, but the attachment was still there and this both puzzled and fascinated him. It was like he knew that he belonged with Dean, that Dean somehow completed him, but he just couldn't quite remember how or why (because his half of their soul was missing). But he sought Dean out and chose to stay with him, even when Dean proved to be a royal, colossal, pain in his unfeeling, pragmatic ass. I think this is what people are picking up on and calling obsession, for lack of a better word to describe it. Because why else was roboSam staying with Dean, except that he knew he needed him somehow? And need in the face of impracticality, can be kind of obsessive feeling.

the sound design has always been good on this show (all the stuff aside from music, basically). and i really like what they did with this part of being in dean's head while he's turning and all the extra exterior noises kind of muffled and loud. very immersive

and i like how dean's noticed through all this that sam's heart rate isn't elevated. also makes me wonder what sam's thinking with all this, if he doesn't realize something is wrong/different at this point. is it, doesn't know it's wrong/wrong doesn't apply to him because now he's effectively got antisocial personality disorder?

how many times is he going to make poor lisa listen to the i'm about to die goodbye speech. accidentally hurting ben, great. that would give him a more lasting out, i imagine.

well i was thinking sam was gonna be the one with the cure and he just wanted a guinea pig (but i mean in that case he could use any rando) but kind of a big tell there trying to convince grandpa he didn't know about the cure already. using him to get intel on the big bad is certainly more crafty.

Sometimes RoboSam just sat, staring at nothing. That was creepy.

houses swallowed by the earth, windows thick with frost by monsterq: explicit but characterful, and a lovely snapshot of life without a soul.

The old Sam, the other Sam, might have tried to fool himself. Maybe Dean’s having a nightmare, he’d reason. Maybe he’s just turning over in his sleep. He wouldn’t believe himself, of course, but he’d invent excuses and recite them like a rosary, listening, eyes wide open, in the dark.
