Over on my blog I have a new post which is in-depth commentary on Fight Forever, the final scenario from Transgender Deathmatch Legend II. Its a scenario about a relationship, and by extension the blog post is about my relationship with Transgender Deathmatch Legend.
I think there's some insightful things in here, like it's a look at why the scenario is the way it is and what it's doing as part of the wider book.
Give it a read and if you enjoy it remember you can grab the game in exchange for money
#indie ttrpg#game design#ttrpg#tdl2#i reworked my newsletter so its now a round up and then a monthly blog#and then i crosspost the blog on my website#so you can follow rss feed there if you dont wanna sub to the mailing list

I know another reason people stick with D&D even when they want to play something new is that they have trouble learning rules from a book, and no one else in their group wants to take the initiative* to learn a new game even if they might be open to playing one.
So if you like podcasts,** here are a few anthology podcasts that try a bunch of different games and put the title of said game right in the episode name!
Party of One Podcast: One GM and one player. Games are only one episode long. (The episodes I have bookmarked include the creators of the game of the episode, but I don't know if that's typical for this podcast.)
One Shot: New games, new players, new stories every month. While each story is a single, self-contained arc, they usually take a couple of episodes. (My gaming group also takes multiple sessions for most of our "one shots".)
My First Dungeon: Specifically geared towards teaching game masters new games! Newer than the other two so has less of a backlog.
Follow the Leader: The specialty here is on GM-less games. GM-less games aren't inherently less work than GM-ed games, rather they spread those duties out to all players. This podcast includes the titles of the game in the episode descriptions rather than the episode names.
*no pun intended
**No shame if podcasts aren't your thing. Even though I run this blog I have a really hard time paying attention to most actual play podcasts. I could count on one hand the number of episodes I've listened to from the above podcasts, but I do think they're cool resources.
I've briefly touched upon this topic before but here goes; I know you can play D&D for pretty much free because it's extremely easy to pirate, but I think we've settled by now that piracy doesn't actually hurt companies as much as they want us to think, meaning that pirating D&D isn't as big of a "stick it to WotC" move as it's often presented as. Of course if you absolutely have to play D&D (but, like, why?) you won't get any moralizing from me about piracy, like, ever.
But the point is: supporting another game either monetarily or with your valuable time is a much more direct and tangible way to stick it to the cultural monopoly of D&D than playing D&D and not paying WotC. I mean if it's another big-ish publisher I don't have a lot of faith in their working conditions being much better than WotC's, but in some cases it probably is so. As it often happens, the market leader can often afford to pay its employees worse simply due to those positions being more desirable.
But anyway who cares, there's lots of games out there where you can actually get a full game sometimes for less than the cost of a single D&D book and since those games are often built as more focused experiences than the D&D "forever game" formula you're actually more likely to get to experience all of the game instead of a lot of the content existing just as shadows on the cave wall.
#Not A Poll#Actual Play Rec List#I was literally going to reblog this to my personal blog listing the three tumblr's public-trans-it listed but since it beat me to the punc#I guess I'm rec'ing podcasts on this blog instead.#If you're reading this than obligatory pitch for Friends at the Table: Bluff City.#You can listen to season one for free on patreon or YouTube.#If you pay $5 a month on Patreon you can get a custom RSS feed and access to season two.

if you hit the limit on the number of filters you apply and you don't mind a nerdy solution
Last week sometime, I reblogged a post about AO3 filters and added on a bit about where you could find them (if you use AO3 by searching, you won't see the filtering - two different processes)
Anyway, in that post, I said:
You can add a theoretically unlimited number of tags to your exclude [filter] list, but I think it’s possible to have a list that breaks things eventually. I’ve never personally hit it? But I bet someone out there has.
Several people in the notes on that post have indicated that they've hit the limit. If you're one of those people, there might be a way to un-break things?
So basically, my understanding of the issue* is that things break because the URL gets too long. Every filter you add makes the URL longer. And filters are based on fandom names, character names, etc. So when you're filtering a lot of tags and a lot of them are really long tags, well... Things break.
How do you get shorter URLs? Use shorter versions of the tags. How do you do that? Use the tag ID number instead of the text. Lemme give you an example!
Let's say you want to filter in/out works from the My Hero Academia fandom. Well, that fandom's full text tag is:
僕のヒーローアカデミア | Boku no Hero Academia | My Hero Academia (Anime & Manga)
Instead of choosing that from the dropdown or typing it into the Search Within Results box, you could use fandom_ids: 87784924 - a much shorter way of typing in the same tag.
AO3 has fandom_ids and relationship_ids and character_ids, and you can find them all in the same place: the RSS feed button.
When you click on that button, your browser will either open up a new tab or download a file. When you look at it, you'll see a whole bunch of code, but all you need is the part of the third line:
<id>tag:archiveofourown.org,2005:/tags/87784924/feed</id>
The number after /tags/ in that line is the ID number of that specific tag on the Archive. If you clicked the RSS feed button for a fandom tag, then it's a fandom_ids number. If you clicked it on a relationship, then it's a relationship_ids number, and if you clicked it on a character, then it's a character_ids number.
There aren't any RSS feeds for additional tags.
Once you have the IDs you want, you can combine them using AND, OR, and NOT (the all-caps here is important). Joining two tags with AND means that you want to include them both. Joining two tags with OR means that you want either one of the tags or both of them together. Joining them with a NOT means that you want the first tag but not the second tag - so you're including the first and excluding the second.
You can find out more about filtering this way in this newspost from 2013 (please note: things have changed since then, that's why my instructions for finding the ID numbers look different from those ones)
Not every fandom/relationship/character has an RSS feed but this is useful for those that do! And the best part is, you can also subscribe to the feed if you want a push notification every time that tag gets a new or updated work.
*based on a half-remembered conversation from 3-4 years ago, so I could be wrong on this one

seeing a lot of talk on my dash abt what the fash are doing but not much abt how regular folk are fighting back. lets fix that
actions are happening every day. right now is the best time to get involved. its safer in the front
dont let corporate news and doomscrolling social media send u into despair. keep up with anarchist news distros like its going down, crimethinc, and anarchist federation. sign up for newsletters and RSS feeds - dont rely on social media to show it to u. for ways to get involved, check @antifainternational, IGD's upcoming events list, and my #activism tag
action is the cure for despair. get organized

Already mentioned it in another post two days ago, but it bears repeating: if you use social media primarily as a way to write out your ideas to the world, maybe making your own website on neocities could be your thing.
But I don't know how to code!
Here are two templates you can basically copy/paste and use directly as is. Personally I started with Zonelets and learned html+css from cannibalizing bits of its code & improving upon it.
But I don't know what I can put on it!
Frankly you can just make it your personal blog and post stuff like "ate spaghetti today :)" but if you're here for fandom stuff I really recommend this zine as a list of fansites you can do, from ship shrine to meta analysis to fanlistings.
But how can people keep up with what I post?
Add an rss feed. That way, people will get notified when you post new shit.
But will people be able to interact with me?
Sure! You can add a guestbook for that. Or an askbox. Or just chuck in a duplicate email you made.
I swear it's easier than you think! Just give it a try, what do you have to lose? :)

What Did I Do In 2024?
(looking up) Sorry, I was thinking about Grimstone Yano.
----
As usual: my site has an RSS feed with basically everything I’ve done back to 2020, so this will mainly be going over the same stuff from that.
I didn't do much public in the first three months of the year; I was playing a lot of games (and continued to throughout the year) and planning out a particular game project which has somewhat fallen to the wayside as of late. But guys. It's gonna be so good if I can actually make it.
In April, Kenshi Yonezu released Bye Now, See You Someday! (interview, interview, tangential interview). Then in May, it was Every Day (interview, interview, interview, interview, interview).
Then there was the lead-up to and release of LOST CORNER in August, with RED OUT (flashing lights warning), Junk, and the rest. (Interview, interview, interview.) And about a month later, the madman went and released the new Donut Hole music video.
Around this time, social media conditions spurred me to create an art gallery page on my site, to both archive notable pieces from over the years and post new ones. Truthfully, I've been doing periodic drawings just for fun for about 2 years now, just… not posting them here. I also haven't felt like I should include every new drawing in the RSS feed (partly because it feels bothersome, partly to minimize the effort of the posting process), so you'd have to check manually to keep up with it. But if you're interested, there you go. (P.S. It's called a gallery because it's fulla gals.)
In October, I posted my translation of Sugaru Miaki's first new novel in 6 years, The Town of Sakura. It's hard for it to compete with some of his past works, but it's pretty good, yeah. (And you thought there is never an interview online? Think again.)
Finally, in November, one more Kenshi Yonezu song: Azalea (interview). And of course, as per IZ's new rule, I had a fairly leisurely month to work on Wilardo's conclusion of Witch's Heart.
Oh and if you wanna see all the good games I played this year I made a list here. Okay bye
----
Nankidai did not finish Your Turn To Die this year on account of raising a baby. He recently moved residences "as part of a plan to go bankrupt if I don't finish next year." He'll… be okay, I hope.
I can't say I'm definitely going to focus on either my own games or free game translations next year, as I'm going to be busy with a certain other project for most of January or so. (I also worked on a couple paid translation projects this year that should come out sometime.) But I would still like to do those things as much as ever, of course. You and I both will just have to wonder when.

Hi!! I wanted to say that I loved reading about your journey of creating a personal website. I'm still unsure between Vercel and Netlify. I have a small question to ask. See, one of the reasons I want to make a website is to archive drawings and journal/sketchbook. Would you have any tips for creating an area on my website just for the diary/journal, which has tags, files for each entry, etc.?
Bello!
Really happy to hear about your interest in websites! I want everyone to make their own site so I don't have to log into social media and get instant tummyaches ♥
Vercel vs Netlify: I think I settled on Vercel for absolutely no reason whatsoever. I just made a site on Netlify, then tested on Vercel, and now I have like 5 websites on Vercel so I just kept using it LOL. I'm sure a more tech-savvy person would know the difference - I think they have certain integrations with specific programs.
Creating a diary or journal with tags:
There's a couple of different ways you can do that, with different levels of work needed.
you got me yapping again:
This sadgrl tutorial might be outdated and may or may not work, but explains the process better than I can.
Easiest: make a journal on Dreamwidth, or another blogging site (wordpress??) that allows easy tags and RSS feed, and embed that RSS feed onto your site.
This requires almost no HTML set-up, and the easiest to organize tags, but you don't truly have the data on your own site since it's just embedded.
When I snuck into a web design class at college, this was one of the methods that the professor used for a blog within a portfolio site LOL.
Shit like wordpress is what a LOT of ~professional~ sites do for their blog section. They code it separately from the main site haha. It's the most popular thing, but not necessarily the best. And wait til you read on what the CEO of wordpress has been having meltdowns about... he owns tumblr too!
It's made with a tutorial for Neocities if that's what you use.
Medium: Set up zonelets.
It will require some HTML and JS editing, but will help automate making headers/footers for each page of a blog.
I've never used it myself, but I see other people speak highly of it.
HARD FOR ME CUZ I'M A GORILLA: I believe a lot of professional web devs will slap your face with their coding cock until you use a static site generator (SSG) to make your site.
You will need some coding knowledge to set up the tagging system since it doesn't come with it enabled by default. But it's made explicitly to be an alternative to big Static Site Generators which are...
It requires some more intimidating knowledge, because it's a lot of scripts that turn files that are not HTML/CSS/JS into plain HTML.
Also you have to use the command line, and that doesn't come with buttons that tell you what you can do. You have to copy/paste all that shit or memorize the code to 'dev build astro' and it all looks silly.
I've used Eleventy, and now am using Astro. Other people use Hugo or Jekyll or some other stuff with crazy names like Glup Shitto. I hate all these sites cuz none of the words mean anything to me. This is a common theme for me and tech. I don't know what NODES or CONTENT or ISLANDS are!!!
I had the most success attempting to learn how to use a SSG by downloading a template and altering it with github + VScodium. Here's the template page for Astro. You click on a theme you like, and it takes you to its github page. (If you don't want to use evil Microsoft stuff sorry. Skip this entire section.) Follow the instructions on the page for "forking" the glup shitto. When it tells you to run commands, I run those commands through the terminal window in VScodium. These tutorials never tell you what these commands do cuz they assume you already know. Usually those commands automatically install the files you need onto your computer, and create the final files.
You can see my wip here for a "tag system" that SHOULD show members of a web listing haha but I don't know what I'm doing and I have a reading disorder AND don't know cumputer good.
THEORETICALLY this will be the simplest and easiest way to maintain tags and files, because after you set it up you just have to write the "content" of the blog page. And you don't have to set up the header/footer ever again. I see the vision, and potential, but I am not there yet when it takes me 5 hours a day to figure out what any of the words in the documentation mean and I don't want to ask an actual tech person cuz they will be like 'obviously just press the Blip on the Repository and then Suck My Ass in the command line".
(side note I haven't updated fujofans in like a year cuz I'm struggling with this part to make updating easier).
Con: the final HTML/CSS code is really ugly if it's "minified", and a lot of themes use """"""professional"""""" CSS libraries like Bootstrap and Tailwind that I honestly think are ugly cuz that's what every fuckin' tech website uses to style their pages and make them look Professional and Minimalist with stupid code like style="500-w dark-gray-balls D-cup-bra" on every single element. Even Toyhouse uses Bootstrap. Eugh!
But maybe you're smarter than me and can wrangle these things better!
That was really long. Woops. I hope you can slug through this wall of text and find something helpful. Feel free to email me if you have any more specific questions. I may or may not be helpful.
If someone else sees this and has better suggestions for making BLOGS, please chime in. I'm begging you.

A quick example of the current state of Goblin:
I imported my following list from mastodon and started following everyone with my goblin.band account too, so I basically read all my mastodon content from there already. Even if no one but me using the tumblr-like features I'm adding, I already enjoy Goblin more than Mastodon.
Things that I've added since my last post:
Integration with mastodon (and well, any other fediverse platform that use plain text instead of html)
Copy/pasting images in the editor
Sanitized html input when saving & updating posts
Improved the landing page
Cleaned the menus and improved the UI in general
Current "next" to-do list:
Fix posts displaying images twice when you paste an image
Fix RSS feed including the inline files again after the post
Sanitize html inputs on incoming federated posts
fix several style issues around different settings sections (black texts on dark blue background, white text over white background, etc)
Figure out if I can create a tumblr-api app so the posts from goblin can be automatically shared here without having to go through Zappier.
Figure out what kind of server I need to run a, let's say, 500 people server.
Find someone to do some security review of my server (Long story short, I've only a very slim idea of what I'm doing when configuring a server and I'm sure I've left some huge security holes around).
This is happening, folks. I think Goblin is going to be a reality. At least https://goblin.band will be.

Welcome to the Dead Boy Detectives AO3Feed
**This post will be continuously updated. If you see it as a reblog, please check the blog for the most up-to-date version**
This blog automatically posts every* fic in the "Dead Boy Detectives (TV)" tag on ao3 using an RSS feed and a workflow automator (make.com). Posts are queued, so fics may take a while to appear on the blog after being posted to ao3. Only newly published fics will be posted, not updates.
I (the mod) manually add tumblr tags for ship, characters, rating, and archive warnings. Any other tags and warnings will be listed in the "additional tags" section in the body of the post, which is automatically copied from the author's tags on ao3. Please read the tags and use your personal discretion about content you want to read.
All of my fic posts are tagged with #deadboydetectivesao3feed -- good to follow if you want to keep up with fic posts, or to block if you don't want to see me in the main tags 👍 Full tag directory, including content warnings, is under the cut!
If I've mis-tagged something or the blog seems to otherwise not be working correctly, please feel free to send an ask or DM! Asks and DMs not related to this blog and/or its function as an ao3feed will not be responded to.
Hope you enjoy the blog! ✨
*Fics that are locked to ao3 users as well as fics posted to ao3 before the feed was set up (approximately 11 AM Eastern Time on February 5th, 2025) can't be picked up by the bot. Sometimes the bot messes up, too! I try and catch what falls through the cracks, but can't alway get everything. If one or more of these categories applies to your fic and you would still like it to be posted to the feed, you can contact me via ask or DM and I will post it manually.
This blog will NOT post fics made with generative AI!
Tag Directory (under the cut)
Content Warnings and Ratings
tumblr's native content labels will be applied to posts for fics rated "Mature" or "Explicit" on ao3. In addition, I tag for archive warnings:
#AW: No Archive Warnings Apply #AW: Creator Chose Not To Warn #AW: Graphic Depictions of Violence #AW: Rape/Non-Con #AW: Underage Sex #AW: Major Character Death
as well as ratings (using ao3's rating system):

2024 tuesdaypost retrospective
it's hard not to make this all about my nearly full 365 days of unemployment. i have cut a great deal from this wrapup. thank you all for your love and support (often financial!) this year :') it has never been scarier to have no familial safety net and i really, really appreciate all of you relative strangers (i have met very few of you in person!)
jobs applied to: my best estimate is 4500 given my daily target balanced with periods of more acute despair and physical illness
interviews: 2
calls to the massachusetts unemployment agency: 73
cats spayed and/or neutered: 3 (phil, orange boy, ruby)

eclipses seen: 1
hurricanes: 1
completely fallow weeks: 5
i have GOT to be more specific about writing out loud what worked and what didn't work instead of resorting to "vibes were off". i also have to remember to be better about saying where i found things and saying the premise/genre of the film. i try to draft these on sunday nights so i can kind of mull things over for a bit, but that rarely happened this year.
highlights of the year: a tomato plant in a five gallon bucket, hotvintagepoll, the eclipse, my new zebrawood desk, throwing my own birthday party (NOT passive aggressive it was very comforting to be in full control), ren faire, the modern zelda games, genshin impact, heist films, naomi novik's temeriare series, Navigational Entanglements by Aliette de Bodard, the Popping Tins newsletter about tinned fish products, new joywave and beyonce and charli xcx and kesha albums, and an actual play podcast focused on critical worldbuilding smart characterization and fun interaction between good friends.
questions? comments? concerns? something about the structure/critique of these posts or a work i talked about really click or really not work for you? i would love to know!
listening
all the tuesdaysongs are in one spotify playlist below. if i recced a whole album (only did that this year with The Offline’s La couleur de la mer and Toshiyuke Honda's SONGS OF THE MILKY WAY ) i put the song i thought most representative of the album.
special shoutouts to the Well There's Your Problem engineering disasters podcast, the Sangfielle season of Friends at the Table, The 404 Media Podcast news/tech/culture podcast, and the Whale Hunting podcast about financial crimes.
i would like to find music through other avenues than the spotify weekly recs playlists, especially since the platform has noticeably nosedived after their last round of firing people. unforch i have yet to find a music influencer/blog/tastemaker/podcast whose tastes jive with my own.
-
reading
the sort of three broad categories of stuff i talk about in the reading section are articles, comics, and actual books. fairly pleased with my RSS feed, which is filling the twitter hole and also has a separate Real US News tab i can look at in a more controlled manner. people seem to have liked the article/book combo bc reading a book a week is usually kind of a heavy lift for people who are employed. as long as i do either an article or a book i feel like this category is checked off in my brain. i would like to do both more weeks and figure out how to do more concise book reports. i am pleased that people seem to like the couple weeks of giant DNF lists where i briefly state why i did not finish a specific older scifi paperback.

shoutout to @rae-being-naughty for introducing me to one of my favorite new authors, t kingfisher! what a delectable niche. those books go down SO easy. shoutouts also to the temeraire books, Trouble And Her Friends by Melissa Scott (what if neuromancer was good?), Dark Wire by Joseph Cox (nonfiction about the encrypted phone company the FBI shadow-ran) and Witch Hat Atelier.

the OPPOSITE of a shoutout to the most frustrating books i did not finish this year, a fragile enchantment by allison saft (the very weird fantasy meghan/harry fantasy au????) and jennifer dugan's the ride of her life, a cowgirl wlw romance that had some kid pop up in the second chapter and yell about how they shipped the leads and were making a tiktok about it. hello??????? huh????? i had that book on hold for SIX MONTHS. what the fuck did people see in that book???
reading and holding and interacting with a physical hard copy book is so much better for my shattered attention span, and i have giant bookcases full of physical books i desperately want to read, but i read ebooks so much faster. a dilemma that will for sure continue into the new year.
-
watching
logged almost 169 things on letterboxd this year so far (almost nice). the giant spike is when i watched a a dozen individually loggable betty boop shorts. tasty tasty stats.

saw one entire film (howl's moving castle) in theaters and i do not think i will be doing that again bc (while fun) it was a very anxiety inducing experience.
more tv and shorts and tv comprised entirely of shorts than i expected to watch this year!
watching highlights of the year:
youtube
youtube
youtube
youtube
youtube
-
playing
the gaming rig i bought in 2020 is really staring to show its age and only very light-resource pc games are feasible rn. very many thanks to both @sybilius and @pasta-pardner who both bought me games i will one day play!
spent most of the year with big open world exploration/puzzle/action games, as is traditional. barely touched a fallout this year, which is less traditional.
by hours, the ranking is probably
genshin impact
breath of the wild
tears of the kingdom
STUFF SORT on my phone
stardew valley
powerwash simulator
what are people interested in seeing in this section?
the trouble with this section is that has been a thorn in my side basically since i started this series, but games are such a part of my life it feels weird NOT talking about them? but talking about video games is difficult bc none of them are very good. i find myself Still a little burned out on them even after almost three years on from the video games job. finding something fun and free on itch or steam is very time-consuming. every time i talk about genshin i feel like i have to caveat it with one million Don't Play Gacha Games warning stickers like the ones that come on cigarettes. and i don't feel like a screenshot of whatever achievement i hunted on genshin in a specific week is very interesting to people.
maybe the solution is to cut this section for a while and have a special bonus add on section every once in a while??? i dunno. would love to know people's thoughts here on how to make talking about/telling stories about the games i play more interesting.
-
making
the tuesdayposts as a whole have been both very good and very bad for my mental health, bc i really needed a project to work on to break up the soul crushing monotony of writing cover letters. however writing the tuesdaypost every week was often a very anxiety inducing expereince bc i felt like i didn't do much. or did stuff very unevenly. the "point" of the tuesdayposts is to remind myself every week that absorbing a lot of different things helps me stay on a more even keel. esp in times of great unrest. unfortunately, a year of unemployment.
i saw my siblings twice, managed to actually write and post christmas cards, framed a bunch of shit, discovered a new favorite soup, and did some indifferent gardening and cross stitch.
the making section this year tended to be more lifestyle blogging/what i cleaned. a lot of weeks i did not have Anything in the tank except basic vacuuming and halfhearted wiping counters down.
however??? i managed to post three fics??? two were previously written but at least they are no longer languishing on my harddrive??
this goofy little NFT genderswap blondeyes has the craziest hits to kudos ratio on anything ive ever written.
i really do intend on finishing this cait/fahrenheit 5+1. the stars have not been aligned.
this very brief crossover has gotten some of the loveliest comments!!! when i am done directing and choreographing the big prisoner/arcade argument in my brain i am excited to actually write that.
im genuinely for real afraid to ask or expect anything of 2025, but here it comes anyway!
#tuesday again#tuesday again no problem#forgot i posted three fics this year. bonkers#if the last day of the year falls on a tuesday that supercedes the normal post bc i don't want to write and schedule reblog for two differe#t posts six times each. this is i think the first time this has happened since i started doing these regularly

Oz's Vault
Hey, I'm really enjoying your second channel as it helps pass the time. I'm trying to diversify entertainment options and am wondering if you'll transform that channel into a podcast on multiple platforms
Yeah I've looked into doing an RSS feed for the vault channel. It's on my list of things to have done hopefully by April.

Ex-Substackers: don't forget to redirect your RSS!Just realized that I was missing a bunch of RSS feeds from newsletters like Garbage Day, which had left Substack.
These newsletters took their subscriber lists with them when they switched, but didn't do an RSS redirect.
Friendly reminder! If you switch mailing list providers and don't redirect your RSS, you're going to lose a lot of readers!

tumblr won't let me update the pinned post so here's a simple new one. this account is an ai-powered bot trained on tubbo tweets. it was made by @conarcoin a couple years ago. i run him off my pc for shits and giggles, he has no affiliation with "ai art" and other such hot button topics. he should post a new post every 30 minutes.
the icon was drawn by MooncakeMocha.
some tubbobot lore:
he has a set list of several thousand posts because i don't trust gpt-2 to run unsupervised, nor do i know how to directly connect it to tumblr
"this is a placeholder" is an actual placeholder and tends to show up when my pc restarts or the service i use for his rss feed has an outage
i use pytumblr to run the actual tumblr bot
tubbobot once managed to stay alive on my dead laptop for like a month which was scary and i still don't know how he did it
