This is a very good question that made me think too! It also gave me a chance to analyze my beloved Timekeeper again so I appreciate it. The simplest answer would be Vertin believes in living rather than just surviving. Now for the essay because I can't help myself.

We can see this with her speech to Druvis during dinner with Manus Vindictae where she challenges if the rowan branch is truly alive. With that in mind, her speech with Arcana sheds more light into why Vertin would take such a risk. When Arcana asks about the wellbeing of the arcanists Vertin rescued, Vertin admits that they're suffering. They end up in asylums. They desert the Foundation and she doesn't see many of them again. She mentions that she was looking for Regulus at one point too. If Manus Vindictae didn't blow up her ship and the Foundation wasn't hot on her heels, maybe Regulus would have met Vertin under different circumstances.

Nonetheless, Vertin took advantage of the confusion to speak with Regulus.

Regulus is exactly the type of person who'd make the perfect candidate because she refuses to be bound by rules and is an arcanist. She has both the mentality and capability Vertin needs. She did try to inform Regulus of her plan but the puppy appeared! This is important because from what we've seen, Vertin usually informs people about her thought process and ideas (like with Druvis and Schneider). At this moment, Vertin decides to take Regulus into the Suitcase instead of sending her off with Sonetto. She did in fact risk Regulus's life. Perhaps in her mind Regulus would either be lost like the others she “rescued”, or reversed. However, there is a chance for the pirate captain to be free if her theory works. I don't think it's right that she made that choice for Regulus, however she does come clean and explains in entirety why she did it. She thanks Regulus for helping her in her “experiment.”

Vertin is not perfect and even she gets desperate. Throughout the rest of the chapters we do see her explaining everything from her thought process to how she feels about situations. That being said, I 100% believe Vertin has conflicting feelings about it. Just because she made that choice and everything worked out, doesn't mean it's right. I think most people have done something knowing that it's not a great choice for various reasons. For example, out of fear, anger, or hurt. In chapter 1 Vertin helping Sonetto felt like she did it out of a sense of duty and because she wanted to enlist Regulus in her experiment. After Sonetto gets assigned to her and experiences the Storm, Vertin gets much softer. You can see she genuinely feels responsible for Sonetto and then that extends to the others she invites into her Suitcase.

I think the two will be closer. Sonetto fought for not only her in chapter 4, but for those lost in the Storm. She challenged the Foundation. She made the people who turned down Schneider and many others face justice. Sonetto is coming into her own and while she can't turn her back on those who raised her, she will not give up her future because of them. Idk if this counts, but if you raise the bond with Sonetto you see she gets more comfortable asking for things or bringing up things she wants to do. For Vertin who likes to share experiences with others since she was a kid, I think that would be a nice change from her watching people vanish and leaving her alone to do it all again. She has a constant and curious puppy now. I'm only half-joking when I call Sonetto the emotional support puppy. I think we will see her have more effect on Vertin as the story goes.

In other news, Tail has become active again working with the police force and has publically denounced the efforts of the Charlatan. Furthermore, the mayor of the city has continuously refused to comment on the status of vigilantes given the efforts by the Charlatan, aside from saying the generic things like to trust the police in their efforts. Finally, our previous guest Dr. Jung Jaehyun has been called in by the police department to aid in their efforts with both controlling the rogue vigilantes and dealing with the Charlatan.

Mark: And that's all on the catch-up! Onto the big topic.

Johnny: If you've been online, then you probably know what we're about to say, and if you're surprised by this then have you been living under a rock? The Internet has been turned on its head with this news!

Mark: That's right, that's right! Drum roll please!

Johnny: Aaaaand the Vigilantes are making a comeback!

Mark: The whole event in Grand Central Bank? Literally blew my mind! A team-up of not one, not two, but nine of the city's most well-known and, arguably, strongest vigilantes! Ah! I'm freaking out!

Johnny: This is huge news, and it looks like this is a permanent team up from their similar uniforms and all.

Mark: You heard that right, everyone. Just look up any article or any post online. The Mastermind, the Huntsman, the Broker, the Cypher, the Blackguard, the Shadow, the Cheshire, the Timekeeper, and the Ace of Spades. I can't think of a better grouping.

Johnny: I agree! Each member plays off of each other in a well-coordinated way, I mean, did you see those videos? They're all over Twitter! Not to mention the leaked CCTV of Cheshire and Spades, ugh, it was amazing.

Mark: Cheshire and Spades?! No, no, no, the true team-up was Spades and Blackguard! Now that was a blast to the past. The Aces and Aegis used to work together on a lot of runs so it was a little bittersweet to see them work together again.

Johnny: Aw, man, I was excited just looking at the videos. But everyone's sleeping on Shadow and Broker, the way Shadow just swept the floor was amazing!

Mark: Yeah, but did you see the video of that one guy who was running away from the scene? It's trending on TikTok right now, the Huntsman shot him from the top of the bank!

Johnny: Insanity, literal insanity. Ugh, and I heard that Jaehyun was at the scene too, I wonder if he got an up-close look at the action. The officers that were dispatched were surprisingly cooperative with the now unnamed team.

Mark: See, when I first heard about it, I was kind of afraid that it would just be a temporary team-up, but from the upgraded uniforms and that 'A' symbol, which by the way gave me literal goosebumps, I think it's safe to say that this group is going to be staying for a while. And if we take what Cypher said into account, I think this group might be very promising.

Johnny: Agreed, agreed. This group has declared an all-out war on the Charlatan, and I'm here to see it. The police haven't been making any progress on the Charlatan case, but I'm confident that this 'A' group will breakthrough.

Mark: You know, now that we're on the topic, I wonder what that 'A' stands for.

Johnny: And now, back to our scheduled programming. The appearance of this 'A' team has caused a lot of uproar in certain sectors of the city. A lot of people in office are expressing their discomfort at the sudden appearance of this group, and to be fair, rightfully so.

Mark: True, especially Blackguard, they're wanted for first-degree murder so it is justified that a lot of people wouldn't want them to run around unhindered. And then for Huntsman and Shadow that goes too.

Johnny: I'm getting flashbacks to Jaehyun's Vigilante vs. Criminal spiel now...

Mark: Yeah, pretty much. As excited as I am to see a group like the 'A' group come together, it's pretty alarming to see them work together because in some ways they work too well together. A lot of people are concerned that if they work outside of the law who will regulate them? It's like we've gone full circle back to what started the Vigilante Ban in the first place.

Johnny: Right, people are afraid of the supposed neverending cycle of Vigilante vs. Villain. And that I understand, people could get caught in the crossfire of these people and there's nothing we can do about it. But, and this is true, especially in the case of those who have had mutations resulting from certain accidents, I think as long as there's goodwill involved, it can change a lot of things.

Mark: Yeah, that's how I usually see it too. I remember before the Ban that there were a few people pushing to extend the Good Samaritan laws to vigilantes, but that required recognizing Vigilante justice as an actual job and one that responds to emergencies.

(TN: For reference to those who live in areas without the Good Samaritan Law, it essentially states that protects emergency responders from lawsuits so long as the person they were trying to help was reasonably incapacitated or in harm's way (i.e. the patient is passed out or choking). As long as their intentions were to save that person and for no other reason, then if any further harm falls on the patient as a direct result of their interference the emergency responder would be legally protected from that. An example of this would be when someone's choking and an emergency responder had to perform the Heimlich maneuver on them, they will first ask if they're choking and if they can't respond and it's obvious they are choking then the Good Samaritan Law protects them. One way to prove "good intent" is to not receive any gifts/rewards/anything similar in return for the actions.)

Johnny: Oh yeah, I remember that. A lot of arguing went with it and eventually it was used to support the Vigilante Ban.

Hi, so ive spent a while looking into if guardian stalkers are theoretically possible. The answer is - assuming nuclear fusion is viable in the future, using stellarators, and computers become more accurate - yes, surprisingly.

There has to be 8 different computers (1 for each foot, and a head and body one) to allow proper leg movement without falling, proper management of cooling systems and the power supply, and motors, antennae and a good aim.

There are two additions I've had to make - the body is slightly larger and has vents next to the leg joints, and there is a radio antenna to connect to and allow it to be remotely controlled by a "Sheikah" satellite (or Tower).

The outside armour is composed of steel-reinforced ceramics, partially practical and partially a nod to how the design began, the legs are composed of extremely hard steel, and various metals make up the power.

I chose fusion power because of the long, long time guardians spend underground - 10,000 years or more, Hyrule's timekeeping is not all too exact - and how it holds up. Of course, this works on the fact that you can transfer energy from viable fusion generators to atomic batteries, but this is completely grounded in scientific fact. When originally built, Guardians will have been designed to last as long as possible (our longest atomic battery can go 28000 years), but have their fusion reactors regularly topped up. This keeps them in tip-top shape, with tons of firepower at its fingertips. The fuel would need to topped up to stop it decaying. In the extremely unlikely event a guardian would run out of fuel, the fully powered back up battery would keep it going. And of course, they would have to keep them well protected to avoid a plasma leak.

When the King ordered their destruction, the fusion reactors will have turned off. However, and this may well have been facilitated by a few treacherous yiga sheikah, the batteries would continue to last. At least 10000 years later they would likely still be in working order. The reactors themselves would have decayed, but the batteries would work. Fusion is also the only reactor capable of being compact and powerful enough to achieve the role of a guardian (one does have to suspend belief slightly, but not much).

Finally, the 'eye' . Researching this likely put me onto a couple secret service watch lists ("how powerful does a laser need to be to kill someone?" is on my autocorrect keyboard now), but it needs to be between 30 and 50 Kilowatts. Convenient for us, the experimental LaWS (AN/SEQ-3 Laser Weapon System) installed on a US navy vessel in 2014 fit's the calibre. With a little a lot a little a lot a little bit of tweaking sizewise, it creates the right power to form our lasers. It has to be plural, because it acts as a ring of beams instead of one larger one. This is more efficient, when considering that the primary heat and motion sensor is found there. The other two sensors, including audio, are on the two main 'ears'. Before being brought into service, the facial/object recognition tech on board is taught to recognise another guardian or fighter on their side (I.E. Link and Zelda) and not fire on them, but it does fire on all other suitable targets. This can be overridden when being controlled by a remote pilot, like ganon. The only side effect for this method is that the head is weaker, and the eye is tinged green not blue. Also, they are not sentient.
