Mountain Guard
And because it has been so long since I posted anything I'm being nice and posting another imagine. This was something I cooked up last year I think and then forgot about. I edited it a little but it's definitely unpolished. I may, and that is a big may, look at writing more in this universe if people are interested.
It's still set in the Walking Dead Universe but it's an AU and the timeline is probs a little shifty. In this universe Shifters exist. Reader is gender neutral.
Warnings: Brief description of hunting and animal death.
Master List
Prompt List
Daryl tensed for a millisecond before relaxing at the warmth that appeared behind him, arms wrapped around his waist as your chest leaned against his back. He reached down and grabbed one of your hands, squeezing before letting go.
“It’s too hot darlin’,” he grumbled, though it lacked any real bite to it. “Go bother Rick.”
“Nope, I saw you first,” you grinned blowing air on the back of his neck causing him to shiver a little. “Thought I might see if I can hunt down any food. Wanna come?”
“In this form or the other?” he questioned looking over his shoulder, his fingers trailing up and down your arm leaving goosebumps in their wake. A slow, purring started in your chest as you nuzzled into his neck. He huffed at your actions, but loved that he could cause this reaction from you.
“Hm, the other,” you answered kissing his cheek over his shoulder and pulling away. “Better chance of finding something.”
“I’ll grab Rick,” Daryl turned around looking at you properly. “Meet you at the gates.”
He dropped a kiss onto your cheek before he jogged away looking to grab the other member of your trio. It had been a while since the three of you were able to spend time together without anyone bothering you. Hunting tended to be the only time you could have alone. You happily skipped down to the gate waving at those who said hi to you as you passed them. You knew that one of the others would grab a pack for your clothes so you didn’t worry about it.
You didn’t have to wait long before Rick and Daryl were making their way down the road to you, Daryl keeping a firm hold of Rick’s hand to prevent him from wondering off or stopping for too long to talk to someone. You could hear Carol and Maggie laughing up the hill at the actions of the hunter. You grinned, skipping up to them to greet both of your men with a kiss. Purring as Rick squeezed your hip gently.
“Hey, sweetheart,” Rick hummed. “Daryl said you wanted to go huntin’?”
“Mmhmm,” you nodded backing up towards the gate, those on guard opening it for you. “It’s been a while.”
“I know, I’m sorry,” Rick tugged Daryl along with him as he followed you out the gate. “I need to do better with prioritising you two.”
“Yah, ya do,” Daryl grumbled but the both of you could hear the affection in his tone. It took him a while to get comfortable and confident enough in this relationship to speak his mind or even just hold yours and Ricks hands in public. But now, now this man had no problem with doing either of those things. Rick smiled gently at the quiet man tugging him closer to kiss him along his jaw, nuzzling into his neck in a mimicry to your actions from earlier. Daryl might be more confident in his relationship with the two of you but that didn’t mean he still wasn’t the easiest to fluster, his cheeks turned pink at Rick’s actions.
You grinned darting toward Daryl to kiss him, before jumping away your eyes slowly taking on a more feline look as you kicked off your shoes, leaving Rick to pick them up and put them in the backpack he was carrying. The men pulled away from each other to watch you, their eyes burning as you slowly removed the rest of your clothing, revealing more and more skin. It didn’t matter how often the two of them saw you naked, you still had a mesmerising effect on them. You quickly shifted into your other form. You took the form of a cougar, though larger than a normal one, your reddish-brown fur was sleek as you shook your body out getting use to your other form again. Your long tail had a black tip on the end, and it flicked playfully behind you as your yellow eyes stared at the two before you.
“Damn, ya beautiful,” Daryl muttered as he reached forward to scratch behind your ear. You came up to about his waist at your shoulders your head just a little bit higher allowing you to nuzzle into his chest comfortably.
“Doesn’t matter how many times we see ya like this darlin’,” Rick grinned. “It’ll always take our breathe away.”
Your ears perked at those compliments, purring louder in this form as you head bumped Rick after detaching yourself from Daryl. You rubbed all along them, leaving your scent behind, warning off other shifters and wild animals alike, that these two were yours. Your nose twitched as the wind blew the scent of a stag towards you, you lowered your body a little focusing your senses as a soft growl rumbled in your chest, alerting Rick and Daryl that you were on the hunt.
“You got something?” Daryl asked taking his crossbow off his back and notching a bolt.
You dipped your head once before trotting off in the direction of the scent. You stayed in a slow trot so your men could keep up with you. You were careful to keep them away from Walkers, thankful for once they smelt so horrid which allowed you to know when they were near. Daryl got a few rabbits during the hunt, when you stopped and nudged Daryl towards them. He would grin down at you, scratching you behind your ears before getting them. Rick carried the rabbits in the satchel he was carrying that was separate from his backpack, knowing that if the two of you were hunting together there would be an abundance of rabbits and birds.
The time always flew by when you hunted with your men, the sun was starting to get lower in the sky when you stopped, lowering yourself to the ground, body as still as you could make it, with a low growl rumbling in your chest. Daryl and Rick automatically stopped and couched down beside you, their eyes searching for the stag. Daryl, of course, was the first to see it, he tapped Rick on the shoulder twice and pointed to the stag that was drinking from the river just a few paces in-front of you. Your body wiggled as Daryl lined up his shot and you were ready to leap at the stag. Daryl released the bolt, hitting the stag in the neck, he grumbled a little to himself as the stag startled and started trying to run but unfortunately you were too quick as you had leaped the moment you had heard the sound of string. Your teeth tore into the throat of the stag as your large body brought it down, you made it quick not wanting the creature to suffer. You released your teeth the moment you no longer heard it breathing, Rick and Daryl joined you moments later.
“Excellent, this was a good find,” Rick grinned, stroking the fur along your neck, as he kneeled down beside you. Daryl was on the other side of the stag, already taking out his bolt and passing the rope to Rick to tie the legs of the stag together to make it easier to carry back to camp.
“I think you were even quicker this time love,” Daryl grinned, pulling out a bottle of water from his backpack, offering it you to wash out your mouth. “You staying in this form a little longer?”
You purred lowly before you spat out the water away from the stag. It was easier to smell or hear Walkers, it would be riskier on the way back to the prison due to the fresh blood of the stag. And with Rick and Daryl carrying the stag between them you would have to be extra vigilant, to keep them away from any Walkers.
--
After the stag and the rabbits had been delivered to the people whose turn it was to prep the bounties the three of you found your way to an area in the back of the prison that was your little area. It was nicely secluded, which meant you could shift between human and cat form without worrying about prying eyes seeing you bare. As soon as Rick closed the door you allowed the shift to take over you, shaking your body as it changed back to human. You took a few minutes to stretch our your limbs and allow you to get use to the change in your senses.
“The one thing I do not like about this ability is that even in my human form I can taste the blood of that stag,” you whined sticking your tongue out a little, and gagging. You reached for the backpack that held your clothes, quickly pulling them on but as you got to your shirt you found it replaced by one of Ricks. You raised an eyebrow at Rick as you settled down onto the mattress that was on the ground, doing up a few buttons but leaving most of it unbuttoned and the sleeves hanging down over your hands.
“You scent us all the time, Darlin’” Rick merely shrugged. “And you wore one of Daryl’s the other day.”
Daryl snorted from where he was laying down behind you, his body curled around you as if he was the cat shifter and not you. He offered you a bottle of water, and leaves that smelt of mint.
“Where did you get that my love?” you asked taking the offerings.
“I planted some here, after you complained about the tastes,” Daryl murmured, cheeks heating a little.
Rick grinned as he came to sit by Daryl’s head, lifting it a little so he could slid under, allowing Daryl to rest on his lap, as he slowly combed his fingers through Daryl’s hair. You had finished rinsing your mouth out after chewing on the mint leaves, happy with the taste now currently in your mouth. You tilted Daryl’s head up to kiss him in thanks, before pressing one to Rick’s lips as well.
“You are far too sweet my hunter,” you purred, laying down beside him, curling your body against his. Rick reached out to run the fingers of his other hand through your hair as well, lightly tugging on it until you were rumbling in contentment at the actions.
The sun was just starting to set as the three of you shifted your positions so you could all be laying down comfortably with Daryl in the middle, holding you close with Rick on the other side, spooned up against his back and holding him securely, one of Ricks hands resting on your hip. There was nothing you enjoyed more than cuddling with your mates after a successful hunt to provide for your pack.

“Deliciously unpredictable and absolutely engrossing, Nicola Solvinic’s The Hunter’s Daughter is one of the best debuts I’ve read in a very long time. With a dash of magical realism and the kind of complicated, conflicted heroine I love, Solvinic pulls off a nearly impossible feat: making the reader care about a woman who may well be following in her serial killer father’s footsteps. ahhhhh Shifter rudy!! WOHOOOOOOO i been waiting :D
You were a little bit tempted to wring her neck.
Whats with a lot of reader in different AU/universe wanting to wrangle Laswell’s neck 😏
They were both good looking, with dark hair and dark eyes.
*dreamy sigh*
But there was something about the second in command, hidden depths that intrigued you.
our mysterious Rudy. Calm. Collective. Authoritative. * sigh again*
He nodded and didn’t offer condolences, which was a welcome change. Far too often, other shifters met that with pity, and you hated it.
why does this feel like….. when you say to ppl you are single/dont wanna get married/or have kids. And ppl pity you.
So our good boy Rudy have won a tick from our Reader ✅
Good enough. Kind of unusual for a colonel to not shove you straight back into the field, but you’d take it for today. “I see. Thank you.”
*puff of pride * our Alpha Alejandro is very considerate.
You weren’t sure what he shifted into, but you were willing to lay even odds on a canine of some sort. You were curious, of course. You wanted to know. But you weren’t about to ask. That would be rude.
*taking bids of what animal Rudy is * ok ok let see. Ummmmm. Wolf? Jaguar? Cougar? Oclet? .. wait wait.. horse??? Ride a horse to save a Vaqueros? * sofa getting dragged away *
Nobody met your gaze, instead looking at your chin or forehead, which was just fine with you. (Actually, you were impressed with how easy it was.)
The elites, our top of top , disciplines and manners are important.
He paused, pulling over so he could twist to look at you head-on. “You contact me any time,” he said, holding your gaze. Not pulling rank, just keeping your attention firmly on him. “For any reason. Si?”
Oh, does this mean ( holding gazes) he is interested in you? Si?
That gave him pause, silence sitting between you both for long moments. “Not yet,” he admitted. “But I would like to.”
You blinked, jaw dropping in surprise. “...What?”
Oh Rudy you FLIRT
You could just hear two of them arguing while the others kept their guns on you. Something about you being a spy (correct), trying to get the formula (incorrect), something something rival production group (so wrong it was laughable),
well, spy yes, but what formula? Might as well give us the formula now you mention it.. and. Well, * shrug shouolder* we are kinda rivals? In a sense?
You were still trying to twist your hands free when one of the men dumped a little baggy of white powder on you.
Oh, OHHHH the white powder production!!!!! Well, the cartel was bit stupid for dumping the powder on you eh?
so Reader is a mountain lion…. Very elegant.
But you got there in the end, near-collapsing onto a bed. Rodolfo hovered, refusing to leave.
He is protective of his future mate :D
Reader, that feeling might be called… love??
I can’t wait for next part!!! Thank you so much for the fic!
Armor - pt 1
Find my CoD masterlist
Los Vaqueros borrow a CIA shifter to help them investigate a new drug in the streets of Las Almas. Of course, you can't keep your nose fully out of trouble… Fortunately Rodolfo is willing to help you out.
Welcome to my second offering for Fall4Rudy hosted by @glitterypirateduck - this part used the prompt "You don't know me."
This fic does take place in the same world as Born for Greatness, and ties into that story indirectly. However, you do not have to have read Born for Greatness to understand this one.
Warnings: shifter!reader, brief violence, canon typical violence, non graphic injury, minor character death, forced drug use, drug mention, cartel stuff.
Word count: 2.7k
Rodolfo Parra x f!reader
Technically, you weren't supposed to be in Mexico. You were supposed to be somewhere in Russia.
But Laswell had pulled some strings and called in a favor, so. Here you were. Making your way to introduce yourself to the local alpha.
Because Laswell had not only changed your assignment, but also sent you to deal with a pack.
You were a little bit tempted to wring her neck.
You stopped outside, taking a moment to eye the alpha, as he and his second in command eyed you. They were both good looking, with dark hair and dark eyes.
But there was something about the second in command, hidden depths that intrigued you.
"Alpha Vargas." You tipped your head to him.
"Be welcome on my territory," he greeted, nodding to you. "Laswell said to expect you."
"She also said you'd give me more information on what you need help with." You smiled politely, tipping your chin.
"Come inside." He nodded to the building behind him. "Have a drink with us." He clapped a hand to the other man's shoulder.
"Rodolfo Parra," he introduced himself quietly. "Pack second."
You nodded to him as well. "Pleasure."
"Come," Alpha Vargas reiterated, leading the way inside. You followed quietly, observing the base with keen eyes. The pack here was not huge, only six members, but everyone on base had common shifter courtesy, from what you could see.
The alpha's office was nice, and he waved you into a seat before he brought you a drink. He sat on the edge of his desk, his second sitting on the couch instead.
"We need an unknown to do some surveillance," Vargas told you, tumbler dangling from his fingers. "All of my Vaqueros are known to the cartel here."
You nodded. This wasn't the first time you'd been thrown into a situation to gather intel. "Can do."
He hummed, taking a sip of his drink. "Tomorrow," he decided. "For today, relax. Rudy will show you around."
You blinked, a bit surprised, before you nodded. "Alright." You tossed the rest of your drink back, enjoying the brief burn, before setting your glass down.
"This way." Rodolfo stood and waited for you to follow him. You did, of course, slinking after him with an easy confidence.
Rodolfo was quiet as the two of you walked away from the alpha's office. He walked with the ease of someone not only used to having orders followed, but used to having some level of responsibility. Which made sense, as the pack second.
"Have you been with your alpha long?" You tucked your hands in your pockets, looking around. The general hustle and bustle of a base was normal to hear, and the way nobody even tried to meet your eyes honestly felt nice.
"You could say that." Rodolfo glanced back at you, amusement bright in his scent. "Twenty years."
You whistled lowly. "Damn," you muttered. "Impressive."
“And you?” Rodolfo opened the door to another building, stepping inside and looking back at you.
“Packless,” you informed him, easy as anything. It had been your own choice, after all. You didn’t need a pack. And you did better without yet another person keeping track of your movements.
He nodded and didn’t offer condolences, which was a welcome change. Far too often, other shifters met that with pity, and you hated it.
“This is your room,” he said, opening another door for you. “You are free to explore.”
“Why do you think he’s waiting until tomorrow?” You stepped into the room, taking a quick look to find your bag already sitting at the foot of the bed. The room was even a little decorated, a far cry from the bland, soulless military rooms you were used to.
Rodolfo was silent for a few moments, and when you turned to look at him he was already watching you. “We were advised you were coming from a different time zone,” he answered slowly. “And this is not so time sensitive you must move immediately.”
You huffed but nodded, accepting that. Good enough. Kind of unusual for a colonel to not shove you straight back into the field, but you’d take it for today. “I see. Thank you.”
He nodded once before looking away. “Let one of us know if you need anything.”
You nodded, watching him turn and stride away. You weren’t sure what he shifted into, but you were willing to lay even odds on a canine of some sort. You were curious, of course. You wanted to know. But you weren’t about to ask. That would be rude.
Clearly, a little exploring was in order. So that’s exactly what you did, taking your time surveying the base. It was nice, had personality, different from what you were used to. But in a good way. Nobody met your gaze, instead looking at your chin or forehead, which was just fine with you. (Actually, you were impressed with how easy it was.)
You’d definitely had worse places to stay before.
It was easy to pick out the pack among the rest - the pack all circled up around their alpha at dinner time, chatting and laughing with an ease you were almost envious of.
Rodolfo met your gaze across the distance between you for a moment and raised one eyebrow, looking back to the table. A silent invitation. You smiled gently and shook your head just a little when he looked back at you. You were fine by yourself.
You were always fine by yourself.
The job, when you finally got the details, didn’t sound too bad. The Vaqueros were all too well known to go looking, but you could pose as a tourist and get in places they would be noticed. The local cartel didn’t know to look for you, and you could blend in.
Rodolfo was to be your point of contact. Of course.
“We’ve arranged a room for you,” he said as he walked you back to your room. “In the city, so you will not have to trek back out here. We have communications set up for you.”
“Think the cartel will be that curious?” You weren’t dismissive, simply curious.
“It is difficult to say.” Rodolfo shrugged. “But we are asking you to, hm, poke your nose into their business.”
You surprised yourself with your laugh, head tipping back a little. “That’s not a hardship for me,” you told him with a grin. “I do that all the time on my own.”
He smiled, amused, and shook his head. “I’ll drive you out,” he murmured. “Is thirty minutes enough?”
“Plenty,” you assured him. “Thanks.” You nodded once to him as you stepped inside to gather enough to tide you over a few days. Fortunately you had a few civilian outfits with you.
The drive out of the compound was quiet. It wasn’t until you got closer to town that you gave in to the curiosity clawing at your chest.
“Is your pack really that well known here?”
“Yes.” He shot you an amused look. “This is surprising to you?”
“It is.” You leaned back in your seat, contemplating how best to phrase your thoughts. “My family always kept quiet about it. Old town superstitions, nonsense like that.”
He hummed his understanding, gaze flitting briefly to you again. “No place is perfect.”
Your laugh was soft this time, your lips stretching in a grin to show your teeth. “True enough.” The city grew closer slowly, and you shifted in your seat. You knew he’d drop you off on the outskirts, to avoid raising suspicion. “I’ll try not to contact you in the middle of the night.”
He paused, pulling over so he could twist to look at you head-on. “You contact me any time,” he said, holding your gaze. Not pulling rank, just keeping your attention firmly on him. “For any reason. Si?”
You blinked at him, caught off guard. Not just by the eye contact, but the intensity. The sincerity in his words was palpable in his scent, too. He really meant it.
“Okay,” you agreed slowly.
He held your gaze for another two long moments before he nodded once and started driving again.
He left you in the arranged drop location, bag slung over your shoulder, sun warm against your skin. You had directions to the hotel memorized, and you set off at an easy walk.
Sure, you were looking for cartel and for their involvement in the city, but you were also looking for anything odd or out of place. Thus, taking your time walking around.
Signs of the cartel were everywhere, as were signs of violence. It was clear to you that something had happened here fairly recently - the cartel people you saw were more vigilant, almost nervous. The civilians were as well, constantly on the lookout.
Good thing you were just a dumb tourist, then.
You didn’t check in until that night, and that first check in was short. You’d arrived, nobody followed you, you’d report back when you had more. Rodolfo wished you luck.
You tried not to be touched by his care.
Two more days brought nothing of use, just dead ends and being sworn at. Nothing new, really. Your curiosity came in handy here, giving you the patience to explore, even if you didn’t always have the wisdom to back off when you should.
Some of your frustration must have leaked through that third night, though.
“Estás bien,” Rodolfo murmured. “Cálmate.”
“I’m calm,” you shot back, a little annoyed. “I’m fine.”
“You do not sound it.”
“You don’t know me.”
That gave him pause, silence sitting between you both for long moments. “Not yet,” he admitted. “But I would like to.”
You blinked, jaw dropping in surprise. “...What?”
“You heard me.”
“You are trying to distract me.”
His chuckle was soft. “Perhaps, but I am also telling the truth.”
“We’re putting a pin in that until I’m done,” you decided after a moment, shaking your head. “After I’m done, we can get food, if you’d like. How’s that?”
“Acceptable.” His smile was clear in his voice. “Keep me updated.”
“WIll do.” You hung up and blew out a breath. He… wanted to get to know you. Even though you were on loan. Even though you were not part of his pack.
Huh. Well. That definitely gave you some food for thought.
It took two more days for you to find trouble.
You poked your nose somewhere it didn’t belong, and ended up finding much more than you anticipated.
Having four guns pointed at you was nothing new. Being tied up while this happened was nothing new. Being threatened with mysterious white powder, however, was new.
You could just hear two of them arguing while the others kept their guns on you. Something about you being a spy (correct), trying to get the formula (incorrect), something something rival production group (so wrong it was laughable), if they wanted to find out so bad they could get a sample off your corpse… Huh. That sounded bad.
You were still trying to twist your hands free when one of the men dumped a little baggy of white powder on you.
Welp. You were dead for sure.
But the burning sensation against your skin was new. Some of the powder got up your nose and the burning intensified, traveling from your nose up to the rest of your head, and down to the rest of your body. You breathed in, pressure building, until you couldn’t hold it in.
You shifted, bones shifting and muscles changing, feeling every agonizing moment. It felt like it lasted forever, but could have only been seconds.
Leaving you on the ground, the chair splintered under you, fur all on end. You shook your head, disoriented, trying to right yourself.
The first gunshot skimmed your shoulder, and you yowled. You didn’t know where you were, and it didn’t matter. You weren’t safe.
The first man fell to your claws, his screams echoing in your head, too loud. And he wasn’t the only threat. Nothing made sense but you knew you needed to defend yourself.
Your jaws and paws were dripping by the time you felt safe, by the time the shouting and shooting had stopped. You turned a quick circle to make sure there were no other threats, but all was quiet. Your chest heaved with your panting, jaws parted, the burning under your skin urging you to move, to get out, to run.
So you did. You left the room and managed to find your way out of the building. Outside was dark but that worked to your advantage, letting you slip away from humanity, taking to rooftops to get out faster. It wasn’t long until the city was behind you, leaving you in more open land.
The burning finally faded from your skin and your mind, leaving you exhausted but yourself again. But you couldn’t shift back. Trying sent a jolt through you, causing you to hiss.
Well. You were definitely late to check in with Rodolfo, but there was nothing you could do about that now. You could hardly waltz back into the city and climb up to your room, not as you were.
Mountain lions weren’t exactly a common sight in Las Almas, after all.
Growling softly to yourself, you finally huffed. You could find a spot to hang out until you could shift and then get back to the hotel. You could try to get back to the base. You could just find somewhere to chill for a while and hope a better idea came to you.
Well. The base wasn’t that far from town. You could make it.
So you started walking, keeping to the side of the road. Just in case. It was dark, but nothing your vision couldn’t handle. Thank goodness for that.
Your tail swished in agitation as you recalled the drug they’d dumped on you. You had assumed something more run of the mill, but that had clearly been something worse. You were far from an expert, but you’d heard rumors of a drug that forced a shift.
Having now experienced it first hand, you could definitely add that it was not pleasant. You’d shifted almost feral, had gone fully feral when shot at. (Not that you felt bad about that - they had been planning to kill you, so you had no sympathy for them.)
If the cartel was making that shit, which it sounded like, you needed to make the Vaqueros aware. That could be very dangerous let loose on the pack.
It had certainly done a number on you.
The sun was just starting to rise when you got to base. You stopped a little ways away and yowled, hoping to attract attention without getting shot at. Again. Fortunately, your wound had stopped bleeding long ago. Unfortunately, you were half-covered in dry or drying blood, and you felt absolutely disgusting.
The commotion of multiple soldiers coming up to the gate was clearly audible to you, and your tail flicked against the ground.
But it wasn’t until you heard Rodolfo that you tried to approach, yowling again, looking for the sergeant major.
He called your name, and you trotted closer, paws silent on the ground. The gate opened and Rodolfo walked out to meet you, crouching down near you.
“Can you shift back?” he asked, keeping his voice low. He didn’t touch you, but his gaze caught on all the blood on your fur.
You huffed and settled down to focus. It took a few moments (including one moment of sheer panic) before you shifted back, still bloody and sticky and gross. Remnants of the white powder clung to your skin and hair.
Rodolfo was quick to shuck his jacket, tossing it over your shoulders. “Need to get you back to medical,” he fussed, gaze sweeping over you again.
“I can walk,” you assured him, though you didn’t move away from him. The helping hand at your elbow was, in fact, helping. And soothing.
He shot off orders in Spanish to get the alpha and alert medical, staying close to your side. Your progress to medical was slow as your body protested the drugs and the hard use.
But you got there in the end, near-collapsing onto a bed. Rodolfo hovered, refusing to leave. Which was kind of nice, honestly. You got to hold his hand while you got stitches.
"Thank you," you murmured to him when the nurse stepped out.
"Any time." He squeezed your hand, looking down at you with some emotion you didn't want to identify.

Boyfriend’s Background Commentary - The Twilight Saga Part Dos
Movie: Twilight - New Moon
Director: Chris Weitz
Cinematography: Javier Aguirresarobe
Budget: 50 million USD
Release Date: November 20th, 2009 (Canada)
Watched: August 30th, 2018
Boyfriend: @shiftaria
Part Uno - Part Dos - Part Tres - Part Cuatro - Part Cinco
After literally taking five minutes to even getting to the movie, due to the boyfriend shitting around and making many references made about my breaks due to the position he got me into, we finally pressed play. Shifter is telling me all about how he barely remembers the movies, and he’s very confused about the opening scene. Very professional. He’s also making the connection between the heavy reference Romeo and Juliet.
Oh, and sexual comment, commenting on Jacob’s long, beautiful hair. Right, it’s Bella’s birthday. Edward is fucking jealous of Jacob… Apparently, Edward is also a fuck boy, which I wouldn’t put past him, mainly because they imaged him that way. Kind of bothered by that since he’s much more respecting. The acting is much better than the first one, at least that’s my opinion.
We have gotten to the wonderful birthday scene by this point. Now, Shifter was really hyped about it due to the Volturi. I mean, Michael Sheen is a really good actor and makes a wonderful addition to the cast. Also, the phase with the painting was beautifully done, and just really makes it a cool way to get the backstory on characters. Now, when the party actually starts, I actually get rather confused. Wrapping paper does NOT cause that bad of a paper cut, and like I get Jasper is still getting used to blood, but like, none of these reactions have happened before. There have to be other times before that moment for Jasper, so why react now? He knows Bella is taken, he’s been around her when she was dying on the floor of the ballet studio. Yet now he’s reacting, what stopped him before? So many questions and like no answers.
Que sad cutscene about the soul and sad music video; while music lyrics are connected to anything Shakespeare related, Shifter is really picking up on that, he has been since the movie started. I’m glad he is, but it seems like the movie got that point across a lot better than the book did, as the book only gave the reader really angsty teenage girl diary for the most of it.
Finally, Edward appears again, like he’s off to a funeral. He tells Bella that his family and himself are leaving, using a very half-ass excuse about Carlisle. Really, Edward starts using emotional manipulation to get her to understand, bringing a real dick about all of it. Oh, and why the conversation has to be so far out into the forest? Great question, Shifter, we honestly have no clue. It was actually really stupid because as soon as Edward leaves, she chases after him, eventually getting herself lost. Would really help if we knew what Charlie was doing during all of this.
Shifter made an excellent point about the camera angles that were used for the goodbye when Edward gave that final kiss. As the angle started normal, Bella’s world felt right, it was perfect, then the angle started to become tilted, showing that Bella’s world was falling about in those very seconds.
“Oh! One pec! And called it!” -Shifter
Now, at this point, we paused because we were having a conversation that all the natives in this movie are from Canada, and it seems to be true.
Fun Fact: Shifter and I are both Canadian.
Back to the movie. We get a really nice time transition, with a really good monologue, showing what Bella was going through, what Charlie was dealing with. Finally, we get back to character conversation, where Charlie is trying to do the proper thing for his daughter. It’s really amazing that Charlie is trying to so hard to help his daughter. He loves her, yet stepping up into full-time father mode, it’s still pretty hard. Charlie will support his daughter in any way he can.
This next scene was really strange, because of ghost!Edward. Like I know in the book Bella is literally going crazy with grief at this point, but doing something stupid and dangerous to invoke those hallucinations should be red flags. Personally, I think it would have been better if Edward actually looked like he was there, rather than like cigarette smoke, kind of made it less of an impact to the movie. Thanks to Jessica literally putting the idea into Bella’s head that she needs to do the crazy shit to invoke an Edward Episode, she gets two dirt bikes, taking them to Jacob, because she needs help to rebuild them.
We once again paused because Shifter pointed out does twilight, a new moon, an eclipse, or the first light of dawn vanishing the horrible night have to do with vampires? Like that’s all werewolf stuff, none of that can be traced back to vampire myths. I actually had to take a step back, quest what this story was even about anymore like none of it made sense. At least now. Really messed up with this.
Ah, the famous age conversation strikes again, it’s interesting, but very unnecessary truthfully. Especially since it started to turn into a cougar joke.
“I am very confused by my teenage daughter. Send help.” -Charlie Swan, 2018 (Shifter)
I really like Jacob being around Bella like their relationship is nowhere as toxic has her’s and Edward’s. It’s healthier for Bella too. Jacob is a really great person as well. Shifter needed to point out that when Jacob and Bella were driving that is was really old school Hollywood, something I never really paid attention to before. Anyway, more backstory about Sam and a bit about why Jacob is really paranoid, well, bothered by him. It’s a good way to get information since the movie was getting to the point where it would be picking up its pace due to oncoming conflict about plot movement. Jacob and Bella ride bikes, Bella gets her Edward Episode, only to hurt herself, which leads to Jacob becoming shirtless, which was very welcomed by myself since these wolf boys are very good looking and a lot more character development than any of the vampires, at least in the movie, both parties were given equal development in the books, and you knew more about them.
Anyways, with Bella spending time with Jacob, she’s becoming more human again. With that, she’s becoming social with her friends again, even planning a night to the movies with her friends. Only for Bella to be stuck between Mike and Jacob, who both have a thing for her. Though, Jacob, he makes a move, even understands her. Only Mike to return and somehow gets under Jacob’s skin.
We actually all know why.
Bella is once again in distress, trying all her options to get ahold of him until she finally just drives to his house, in the pouring rain. Now there is Jacob; short hair, tattoo, and no shirt. Very hot. And Bella accuses Jacob of breaking up with her, fine choice of words, Bella. They exchange ‘It’s not you, it’s me’ conversation, but Jacob is really worried about hurting Bella due to seeing what can happen if he loses his temper in front of Bella. All of this leads to Bella coming up with the bright idea to travel out into the forest to the field. Not safe at all.
Seriously, it’s a terrible idea considering she runs into Laurent, who came to Forks on a favor to Victoria. Bella can’t lie to save her life either, almost leading her to get killed once again. The only reason she was saved this time was huge ass wolves, that everyone decided to think were bears, even Angela mentions about them a few scenes back. Bella rushes home to tell Charlie and Harry is over. It’s very clear that Harry knows about the wolves, so he agrees to help Charlie.
That very same night, someone comes knocking at her door, well, window, and it’s Jacob. Who really is trying to tell her what is up, and the kicker is; as Jacob verbally says on screen, Bella already knows. Thankfully, it only takes her a night to sleep on it, with a really fucked dream to go along with it all. Cut to her bargaining into the Black Household, needing to see Jacob, only for her to find Jacob sleeping. All seemed well with the world until her eyes locked onto Sam Uley and the others showing up. Storming out as Bella ‘Fight Me’ Swan towards them, yelling, even going as far as to slap Paul Lahote; who fought back, Really dumb on Bella’s part, almost leading to herself getting killed again, under twenty-four hours. Embry Call and Jared Cameron take Bella back to Emily Young’s house; Sam’s fiance. Emily has a really bad scar on the right side of her face due to Sam accidentally losing his temper. The pack is rather welcoming of Bella, Paul even apologizes to her once he returns from fighting with Jacob.
Now, it’s finally known why Victoria keeps coming to Forks, the only issue, the pack never knew until now. This leaves the movie to show what is going on when Bella decides to go cliff diving a few days later because she needs her Edward Episode. Only issue is, Bella doesn’t pay attention to the condition of the ocean. And considering Victoria jumping into the water to get away from Jacob earlier, not surprising that Victoria sees Bella in the water. Que Bella hitting her head and start stinking.
“I thought Edward’s power waw to read other's mind, not Force Projection.” -Shifter.
“Oh! Sexy McWet!” -Shifter @Jacob
How Jacob found Bella is something I totally forgot from the book, but sadness; Harry Clearwater is dead due to Victoria. Now, Jacob is really starting to open up to Bella about all of this, telling her about Sam and Emily. They almost kiss, I might as well scream because Jacob is so much better than Edward. Just Bella is stupid and doesn't listen to Jacob when she sees Carlisle’s car, because she’s going to take the risk. And surprise, there is Alice, making Bella really lucky, because it could have easily been Victoria as well. This is where the viewers find out that Alice can’t see past the pack. Oh, and Jacob doesn’t give a shit about rules and there’s apparently something totally between Jacob and Bella- Oh, wait, phone rings. Great, cockblocked again and Bella, you fucking suck.
Road Trip to Italy, to save the asshole that is an emotional manipulation, but whatever. Alice also steals a car and speeds, all calm, like nothing is wrong. There’s Bella in the passenger freaking the fuck out because they only had five minutes. Skip to Bella literally telling Edward that she can let him go, so just let her go, Edward! In comes, the Volturi, who are all wonderfully cast, and Shifter clearly has a boner for Aro; who is played by the wonderful Michael Sheen (I wouldn’t stop writing his name). Just the Volturi is beautiful, and very well played. This entire scene is just masterfully done, it suits such an old coven that is the government of all vampires. Also, Michael Sheen speaks beautiful Italian.
I literally don’t speak Italian, so this is just my observation. It sounds like he’s been practicing it for years.
Then surprise, Bella is in bed, back home in Forks. Edward is back, I am just upset, he could have just let her go, the Volturi wouldn’t be marking the Cullen’s down in their black books. They even go as far as to put Bella’s immortality to a vote, really torturing Edward, which he deserves. Sadly, Rosalie is the only one who’s said no. Kind of wish that more of them said no because Bella deserves so much better. Thank god Jacob is a no too, but he’s so wounded. Bella, you damn bitch.
Also, HOW IS A PROPOSAL A GOOD WAY TO END A MOVIE?!

Mark and Tessa took a bit to be on the same page about some things. On other things, they agreed from the start. Wolves and Cats process things differently, and once they realized that, it smoothed things out right away!

When and why did you begin writing?
Almost five years ago, unhappy and craving something different than my boring, mundane day job and not seeing myself working at my day job for another thirty plus years and being any happier, I literally screamed in my kitchen for something more. I shouted that I wanted something to fuel the passion dying inside of me from my daily routine work that paid the bills but had become so startlingly unfulfilling to me.
Shortly after this happened, I started getting ideas popping into my head at odd hours and inconvenient moments. I found myself jotting down scenes that entertained me right after my workouts, interrupting my showers to run and grab a notebook, pulling my car off to the side of the road, while roaming aisles in supermarkets, and waking up from sleeping to write something down that just came to me.
I started creating books from these visions in 2013, writing two of them and eventually publishing my first book later in 2014.
When did you first consider yourself a writer?
This is a very good question and a hard one to answer. I’m actually not sure when I considered myself a writer. You see, I always felt writing was a hobby because one never really made any money doing it. So I never really thought about having a career as a writer and when it was suggested to me, I actually laughed at the idea. However, I probably considered myself a writer when I saw my first book in print. It’s really hard to deny facts when you are holding a book that you wrote purely from your own imagination in your hands. When I held Nightfall in my hands there were tears in my eyes and the widest smile of joy on my lips.
Why did you choose to write in your particular field or genre?
My author bio states “I have always had an interest in the strange and unusual- things that go bump in the night have always fascinated me.”
It’s true. My childhood was filled with episodes of Twilight Zone, Amazing stories, Night gallery and treasured moments of watching Sci-fi movies with my dad. I have always been pretty open about other worlds and different beings and I have had some very interesting, unexplainable experiences that have colored my world and entertained me. I have been told, several times, that I am intuitive and I have had experiences that others have told me would scare them but, in reality, they don’t frighten me- they are just a part of what is, though unseen to our human eyes.
I believe a good author writes what they know and that’s why I chose paranormal as a subject matter. The fact that I, personally, love romantic movies and romantic comedies- the Hallmark Channel being one of my favorites- just seemed natural for me to write in the romance genre. Pairing my two loves has been the most amazing experience for me.
Are you a full-time or part-time writer and how does that affect your writing?
Unfortunately, I am only a part-time writer as my full-time day job financially supports my writing. Since I can only write part-time and, for the most part, I write novels vs. novellas, I can’t push out stories as fast as a full-time writer can. I also do my own marketing and advertisement (which takes up the small amount of writing time available to me).
I am quite busy during the day working and taking care of all the arrangements my dad needs (he resides full-time in a nursing home and currently has cancer) and at night, when I have the energy and feel up to, I will write some in between taking care of my own family including my sweet dog- a rescued American Foxhound.
What have you written so far?
I finished my first series called The Guardian League. There are five books in the Guardian League and each one features a Guardian Angel who is a voluntary member of the sub-set organization called the Guardian League.
I also have one Wolf Shifter book called Nightfall published and two anthologies written by me: Angels and Diamonds and Shifter Shorts.
My ninth book, another wolf shifter PNR, is with my publisher waiting to be reviewed and I am in between writing my tenth and eleventh book which are both Angel romances.
All of my books are standalone and can be read in any order, including the five books in the Guardian League. I did this on purpose as I wanted my readers to have a choice in which book they wanted to read, first. ** Read the one that calls out to your heart. And enjoy!**
Do you work to an outline or plot sketch, or do you prefer to let a general idea guide your writing?
I’m actually a pantser though I have used a few outlines in the past. The funny part is, I may outline a book but then forget all about the outline and “go with my gut” as to which scene goes where. I tend to write scenes and then piece them all together afterward knowing where each one is in the book and adding stuff in between so it flows well. With every book I start, I have a general idea as to the theme of the book and then I just go from there. It’s much more fun for me this way and it’s truly amazing to see the book come together as I am writing it.
How do you feel about indie/alternative vs. conventional publishing?
I think it’s great to have both options for writers so they can choose which one is best for them. I have books published in both options. As an indie writer, things can get pretty expensive so if you don’t have a lot of money, going the route of traditional publishing can be a really great choice to get your work out there without sacrificing much. Of course, if you indie publish, you control just about everything and there is a lot of freedom and flexibility with that choice.
Most traditional/conventional publishers do not like books of short stories, so my two anthologies were indie published and I’ve enjoyed the freedom of being able to dictate my own book cover, choose when I wanted to publish the book and ordering paperback copies that are much less than buying them from a conventional publisher.
Did you make any marketing mistakes that you would avoid in the future?
In my first or second year of being published, I decided to go with a book tour and paid a company that specifically did tours for paranormal books. This one touted that they worked with some very well-known authors in the field and, me, wanting to get exposure for my own work excitedly contracted with them. What a disappointment when fifty percent of their bloggers fell through with what they were supposed to do for me, yet the rate I paid was never discounted. I learned quickly not to use them ever again. Now, I try to look up reviews but mostly I will go by word of mouth from authors who are friends of mine to see who they have used and recommend.
What was the hardest thing about writing your latest book?
Coming up with different types of shapeshifters. Haha. Yes, I know. That doesn’t sound like a problem. But I actually ran out of ideas for types of shifters before I finished the book.
I wanted to have unusual shapeshifters as well as some of the more traditional ones you find in paranormal books. Once I had the types of shifters in my mind for each story, then it was just a matter of coming up with a plotline and writing the story.
The shapeshifters in the book Shifter Shorts are a: cougar, gargoyle, hellhound, hybrid (two species), wolf, and a shark.
What did you enjoy most about writing this book?
The unique shifters and writing their stories. Two of my stories went a little dark and I actually cringed while writing several scenes in them but it was good for me to expand my writing skills and venture into other areas I don’t normally go into. Venturing into topics that can be a bit disturbing does not come easily to me but it was needed for the storyline which took a different turn than I thought it would. Most publishers want a HEA and one of my stories did not have one but the story continues with the next character and the original characters are redeemed. It was really fun doing that with this book and it was a different way of telling a story than in any of my previous books.

Release Week Review! The Coyote's Bride (Masters of Maria #6) Holley Trent!

Related to one of the oldest shapeshifter legacies in Maria, Lily Baxter grew up knowing there was a chance she’d find romance among the supernatural. But certainly her idea of romance wasn’t a drunken one-night stand with a Coyote she loves to hate, a Vegas wedding, and soon after, a heartrending miscarriage. She and Lance Aitkenson obviously aren’t meant to be.
But while secretly coordinating their divorce far from the snoops back in town, her new husband gets jumped by man-hating jaguar shifters, and it’s up to her to smooth things over. There’s something stranger than usual about these Jaguars. Not only do they seem to have abilities no other shapeshifters have, but they claim a centuries-old connection to Maria’s resident goddess. They see strong-minded Lily as a kindred spirit, but Lance fears they harbor sinister motives.
Together, he and Lily might be able to unravel the secrets of the mysterious cult and prevent them from disturbing the peace back in Maria, but can they really work cooperatively when they’re so close to calling it quits? Or will they realize that they don’t need an accident as their excuse for sticking together? ___
Also available in Masters of Maria: 1 - THE DEMIGOD'S LEGACY 2 - THE ANGEL'S HUNGER 3 - THE WOLF'S JOY 4 - THE COYOTE'S CHANCE 5 - THE COYOTE'S COWBOY
Each Masters of Maria story contains a complete romance set in small-town Maria, New Mexico. Read earlier stories set in this exciting and magical world in the Desert Guards and Sons of Gulielmus series!

Not only was their romance one that disappointed Lily Baxter but their quick trip to end it lands this couple right into a modern western showdown not only between them but with a group of man-hating jaguar shifters with mysterious abilities.
Sparks fly in every direction throughout this thrilling showdown of epic proportions between Lily and Lance as their sizzling chemistry keeps them all worked up. They seem to rub each other the wrong way which keeps this relationship in extreme turmoil which leads to a ‘War of the Roses’ type relationship and has them engaging in heated encounters full of angst, snark and just plain meanness.
These two solid characters easily pull readers into their story and provide them with lots of wild entertainment throughout the fast paced and explosive plot, but that’s not all that’s keeps the readers glued to the pages as they are introduced to some mysterious man-hating jaguar shifters whose motives are anybody’s guess and of course Lola and Tarik make a few ambiguous visits.
I was completely charmed by Lily and Lance and their uproarious courtship throughout The Coyote’s Bride and I couldn’t help but sympathize with some of their personal issues involving miscarriages. Every visit to Maria is an entertaining and eventful one but I have to say that this one certainly never had a dull moment and I didn’t want to miss one second of it and with the way it ended (which the author was so nice to give an explanation for) I am certainly looking forward to reading the next story and finding out more. Note: Miscarriages are a very sensitive subject, but the author interjected it into the story in a non-invasive or offending manor and provided helpful information to readers.

I do jobs no one else in my pack can do. Dirty jobs.
Like kidnapping Liv Hagen.
I didn’t want to do it. I was just following my alpha’s orders.
I never thought my bear would think she’s ours.
But there’s no way I can keep her. The consequences are too dire.
So, when the time comes, I’ll have no choice but to surrender her to fate.
Even if it kills me…
Liv
Kidnapped, held captive, and used as a bargaining chip against the Black Rock Guardians.
Yeah. Seems about right for my luck.
But if the big, bad bear shifter thinks I’m going to submit to his—or anyone’s—will, he’s got another thing coming.
Which is why I’ll just have to ignore my attraction to the sexy jerk. It’s probably Stockholm syndrome, anyway.
I mean, it’s not like he’s my fated mate or anything… right?

Excerpt
Buck Naked by Evangeline Anderson
Sadie looked at him critically from his huge size to his shaggy black hair and neatly trimmed black beard. He had olive skin and large well-made hands with very clean nails. Sadie liked that—she always noticed a man’s hands. For a moment she had a flash of what it would be like to have those hands caressing her body, roaming all over her naked flesh until she moaned for more.
Wait a minute—where did that thought come from?
She had no idea but suddenly there were more like it crowding her brain. It was as though one appetite had been satiated, and now another was growing. But that was ridiculous, wasn’t it? Stop it, Sadie, she scolded herself. He’s too young for you—way too young.
“Well?” Mathis asked and she realized she’d been studying him too long while thinking forbidden, lascivious thoughts.
“Oh, um...” She cleared her throat, feeling her cheeks get hot. “If it wasn’t for your green eyes, I’d say you look Italian. Or maybe half Italian and half giant.” She smiled at him to let him know she was joking and was surprised when he grinned back.
“Yeah, well, I can’t help that I’m not as itty-bitty as you.”
“What?” She gave him an incredulous look. “I am not itty-bitty, I assure you.”
“You are as far as I’m concerned.” His voice dropped to a soft growl and he leaned forward, looking at her across the table. “When I was holding you on the couch I was thinking you felt as light as a feather. Especially when you held on to my shirt and didn’t want me to let you go.”
“I... I don’t remember that. I just remember thinking that something smelled really good and I wanted ... wanted to be close to it. To you, I guess.”
Sadie felt herself blushing again as she met his eyes. Why hadn’t she noticed how attractive he was earlier? Maybe because he was always scowling. And now the way he was looking at her, so intently ...
She dropped her gaze, feeling unaccountably nervous. This was ridiculous—she was ten years older than him. They had a name for women who went after younger men, didn’t they? Right—cougar. She hadn’t moved to Cougarville to turn into some kind of a cougar.
Mathis seemed to sense her nervous confusion because he cleared his throat and got up to clear their plates.
“How about dessert?” His deep voice was slightly hoarse and there was a definite bulge in the denim of his jeans, but at least he was trying to act normal, which was more than Sadie could say for herself.
“Dessert sounds wonderful,” she made herself say, trying to get back to the cordial tone they’d had before things had suddenly turned weird.
“Great.” He got a glass casserole pan out of the refrigerator and scooped the contents out into two blue bowls, which he brought to the table.
Sadie looked at the dessert, which seemed to have three layers—blueberries in sauce at the bottom, a white middle layer, and crumbled cookies on the top. She took a bite and her eyes rolled up in delight.
“Oh my God, this is sinfully good! Is that middle layer cream cheese?” she asked, going in for another bite.
Mathis smiled. “Yeah, mixed with powdered sugar and whipped topping. The bottom is just homemade blueberry pie filling. We had a bumper crop this year so I picked extra.”
“You’re amazing.” Sadie looked at him in wonder. “I mean, you look like a lumberjack but you cook like freaking Gordon Ramsay.”
He grinned. “Nah—that guy’s an asshole all the time. I’m just an asshole until you get to know me.”
“Well, I’m glad I did—get to know you I mean.” Sadie smiled at him. “I thought after the way you looked at me this morning when I saw you through my window you’d hate me forever. I mean...” She trailed off, feeling mortified. Why had she brought up that morning and the fact that he’d seen her naked? They’d been doing so well and she had to go and ruin it.
“About that...” Mathis cleared his throat. “I thought... I mean, I had a wrong idea about you. And I want you to know I wasn’t, uh, spying on you. I was just getting firewood at the wrong time, I guess.”
“Oh...” Sadie felt a rush of relief. “I know that—I could tell by the look on your face you were surprised. And I want you to know I didn’t mean to, uh, flash you.”
“I believe you,” he said simply. “Not that I minded being flashed.”
“Um ...” Sadie felt like her face was on fire. “Thank you but I’m not… I mean...”
“You’re beautiful,” he said, his deep voice hoarse. When she looked up, she saw his eyes were half lidded with desire and he was giving her that same intense look he had been when she’d woken up in his lap.
