A skateboard deck design I did of the beautiful red-shanked douc. I’d like to come back to this sometime and expand it into a “real” canvas ratio. Some of the tighter work I did this year so far.

Red-shanked douc (Pygathrix nemaeus)
The red-shanked douc is a species of Old World monkey, among the most colourful of all primates. The douc is an arboreal and diurnal monkey that eats and sleeps in the trees of the forest. All doucs are native to Southeast Asia, specifically the countries Cambodia, China, Laos and Vietnam. The red-shanked douc is thought to be found only in north and central Vietnam and Laos. Doucs are, like all monkeys, social animals. They live in groups with an average size of 4 to 15, but groups of up to 50 have been recorded. A group usually consists of one or more males and approximately two females per male. Both males and females have their own hierarchies and males are dominant to females. Its diet consists mostly of leaves high in fibers. The Red-shanked douc is considered as "Endangered" by the IUCN!!

Top Shot: Family Photo Time
Top Shot features the photo with the most votes from the previous day’s Daily Dozen, 12 photos chosen by the Your Shot editors from thousands of recent uploads. Our community votes for their favorite photo from the selection, and the Top Shot is showcased on the @natgeoyourshotInstagram account.
Your Shot photographer Trang Nguyen captured this image of a family of red-shanked douc who paused for a moment to pose for his camera. "The red-shanked douc is a species of Old World monkey, among the most colourful of all primates," writes Nguyen. "They live in on the Son Tra Peninsula , Danang, Vietnam . They have become the symbol of Danang city, although there are some concerns that recent development of resorts will endanger the habitat of the red-shanked douc. Scientists have proposed to add red shanked douc into the list of critically endangered species for stricter protection." Photograph by Trang Nguyen

WIP Day 2+More
So I got too tired to finish the Day 2 prompt, I will finish it tomorrow obviously, but I thought I might as well share what I have plus an OC I made. (Last one is the Day 2 WIP)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I'm not someone who usually makes OCs so Sumi is probably the first one in a long time that I made. She's a young adult Red-shanked Douc. I'm still thinking of where to place her in the JTTW universe or what universe to even put her in.

The red-shanked douc (Pygathrix nemaeus) are brilliantly colored Old World monkeys of South East Asia in Laos and Vietnam and live high in the canopies of deciduous forests or rainforests, including lowland and mountainous habitats up to 2,000 feet.
Red-shanked doucs typically live in small groups of up to 15 on average, but large groups of up to 50 have been recorded. Males are dominant to females, but either gender has a separate dominance hierarchy. They communicate with facial expressions, and are loud and boisterous when undisturbed. When they feel threatened, these monkey retreat silently into the canopy, but will bark and swing branches around when startled.
The red-shanked douc breeds from August to December, and females give birth to a single infant. Infants are born with similar coloration to their parents, but more lightly colored, reaching its adult coloration at about ten months. Female red-shanked docs reach sexual maturity at around four years and males can take up to five. Upon reaching adulthood, individuals of both sexes leave their original social groups.
Red-shanked doucs are primarily folivores, and have specialized stomachs with multiple bacteria-filled sacs for breaking down cellulose. This gives the monkeys a pot-bellied appearances, as well has making them quite gassy, so they burp frequently. This monkey is also known to eat fruit and other plant materials. It gets enough water from the leaves it eats so they aren't required to leave the safety of the trees to drink.
Humans are the chief threat to the red-shanked douc. Natives hunt them for food and body parts used in traditional medicine. During the Vietnam War, Agent Orange destroyed much of their habitat, and soldiers are also said to have used the for target practice. They are listed by the IUCN as Endangered.

This is BY FAR!!!! The prettiest primate in existence! Look at them! Red grey color pallet with orange accents and blue eyeliner?!??! I want to hold her. I want to be her.
She's prettier than every person in this room and the hottest model you can think of!
They are Old World Monkeys! They have Society! They have four chambered stomachs!
Their nickname is the Queen of Primates! And like,, YEAH! Look at her! Queen shit!
(calling the species her for fun, it isn't just the males who are bright and pretty, their sexual dimorphism is fairly minor)
They are less aggressive than a lot of other species of primate.
I love them so much I made a character this species!
