this book is also reminding me why despite the gameplay for that particular quest belonging in the category of "torture methods used to test if you're a witch or not" i actually loooove the set up for wicked eyes, wicked hearts. you know how everyone talks about how awful that bright ass red nutcracker uniform is. i fucking love it.

like ok think about it. you're surrounded by vain, pretentious nobles who couldn't care any less about the world ending if they tried but still greet the inquisitor with respect and reverence like you're one of their own. because they need you. everyone's wearing elaborate fancy costumes and masks that hide their faces. no one is showing you who they truly are. it's all a front and even the ones that do want to help have their own agendas. even the building itself is just a prettied up facade of a bloody history of violence. the entire affair is an exercise in deception and false courtesy.

meanwhile, there's You. the outsider. no mask, no elaborate fancy costume, you and your entourage show up in bright red and gold uniforms that stand out like a sore thumb in a sea of muted colors. it's cool for like. two reasons:

1) the Anxiety. the inquisitor is the center of attention. the only one without a mask. everyone is staring, judging, watching, and while you can't hope to make out anyone's true face, they see yours for exactly what it is. you're vulnerable and everyone in that godforsaken ballroom knows it. that outfit leaves you feeling as though you have a target on your back. oh boy look at me! im the leader of the most heretical military organization in current existence! i've never done this before! come kill me!

2) the Pride. while everyone is hiding their faces behind a mask and trying to play nice, you and your team are the only ones in the whole place who dare to walk around with your true intentions in plain sight. no masks, no deception. everyone knows why you're there, everyone knows what you're trying to accomplish. you don't even Try to hide it. because they need you more than you need them and even if they all hate your guts they still have to respect you, still have to listen to you and ask for your help and do you favors in return. they can't do a single thing about your bold, blatant intrusion in their business.

it's as much of a disadvantage as it is a power move and it all depends on how you play it.

I'm working on an image for a fic I wrote about the Dessendre kids, so I needed to de-age Aline and Renoir a bit. I'm pretty happy with how they turned out so here they are!

Clothes: I used Lune's/Sciel's civilian top with some tweaks and Clea's skirt for younger Aline's outfit, and Mirror Renoir's suit for younger Renoir. I did darken the suit a bit, otherwise it was coming through as grey rather than black.

Hair/Face: I decided to give Aline red hair -- her grey hair has a bit of a reddish tint imo, and I thought the similarity between her and Alicia/Maelle would be a nice touch. I also decided to give her Maelle's Act 3 hair for the same reason. :) I also spent a lot of time playing with their hair to create some more realistic mixtures of shades instead of using a flat color.

Working so closely with the sculpts gave me a lot of appreciation for how good of a job the artists did. We only catch glimpses of her, but Aline is really beautiful and looks a lot like Alicia/Maelle. Also, Renoir looks a bit diabolical with the darker hair! I'm increasingly developing a headcanon as the Dessendre family being a bit Mafia-esque and younger Renoir is definitely contributing to it lol.

Hi so I lowered the polycount of the last 3 hairs because I felt like I HAD to have these hairs in my game even though the original was nice and all I just felt like it was too high poly for everyday gameplay.
