Rick Sanchez is my favorite autism representation ever. First of all he’s not babied or made fun of by the other characters like a lot of the time in media (Sheldon Cooper). It’s not thrown in your face like “omg guys this character is autistic everyone needs to know this character is autistic!!!!!” It’s subtle but at the same time it’s very clear that man is autistic. And on top of all that he isn’t ashamed in the slightest for it and he is open about it and isn’t afraid to let people know.

Here's me adding to that if you don't mind bc this was my favriote thing to think about during my Rick and Morty phase

one of the reasons Rick (and maybe summer) think Morty is dumb is there are episodes that explain the reason all ricks have a Morty is because of the dumbness level in their brain cancel out the smart Rick brain that people use to track rick and Rick apparently tried to pick the dumbest Morty his morty- and I'm the begining episodes(if I remember correctly) Morty was pretty dumb but the great thing about that was that ment he was always trying to be on a normal level always adapting to try and passe with the other kids even just by working twice as hard witch after a time it became natural to Morty to adapt and once repeatedly put into situations with the smartest man in the universe can get out Morty picked that up being analytical (witch is basically what smartness is) as well working to become one for the smartes

Now to add on to that let's talk about the difference between ricks Morty and smart Morty

Smart Morty has conviction he has hatered and he has drive that basically the only thing smart Morty has that current Morty doesn't maybe you could also argue that smart might have just naturally smart than out Morty to (but I don't remember enough of his back story for that tbh)

Our Morty doesn't have most of that. the only drive he really has are normal teenager things he doesn't care about the bigger picture because(in my theory) he doesn't see a reason to he has his grandpa and most of his family to look at that of course he can step in when need but if there no need he just doesn't see a point. Now the confidence no one has ever really given him the confidence to say he's smart enough and like I said before his drive isn't quite big enough to prove them wrong he has enough drive to keep attached to what would be a normal teenager crowd but doesn't for being some smart overlord or tech geek bc he doesn't see the point. Another thing is he is extremely loyal he may not have confidence and is convicted the only reason why Rick wants him is for ricks own befits like Morty being dumb but to Morty(again in my hc ig) the fact that he is loyal is usually enough to maybe convince himself for just one more reason why people might want him, he could also be so loyal because he doesn't feel like anyone else is loyal to him and he knows how much that sucks and this amazing Morty could just be the type of person to give people what he never had. Dose Morty some lose it and start basically screaming a fuck you to his family sometimes yah but he always goes back to where he started. ( Also I feel like he is being more confident in standing up for where that line is even if it's still father than most people would put it)

Some one once said be the change you want in the world and I think that's how Morty acts he's the change he want in world even if he doesn't think he's smart enough to actually change the world I'm convinced one day he will for the better

Morty is so dumb that...

1. He regularly disarms Rick's neutrino bombs. The first time he did it it was completely on the fly, no prior experience. Yet, he did it.

2. He has a knack for learning alien languages... as for the tree people in the battery dimension, it was obviously done without any sort of translator or support. (And he took over as their leader)

3. He's quick on his feet and can think his way out in a stressful situation, figuring out things that Rick can't and coming up with innovative solutions.

4. He figured out how to use a portal gun.

5. He can figure out how machines he's never seen nor used before work, and employ them successfully.

6. Beat Rick (smartest man in the universe?) in a board game.

7. Can manipulate said "smartest man in the universe", if he so chooses.

8. Became a successful stock broker. Out of the blue. Just did it.

9. Run. Whole. Freaking. Civilizations (and also toppled them as Marta)

10. Pitches good ideas that Rick typically ignores

11. When suddenly becomes motivated to try, he is good at math

12. His ideas were good enough that he would have gotten a deal for a movie production...!

13. His default intelligence is maxed out.

...At this point, it's only a matter of time before he starts making his own inventions, Eyepatch-Morty-style.

GUYS.

The only reason we've been thinking that Morty is stupid is that Rick has been calling him stupid repeatedly.

Sure, Morty does plenty of dumb stuff, but so does Rick. Rick has the emotional intelligence of a four year old and throws tantrums of cosmic proportions whenever slighted (vat of acid? submit to the selfie?), while often going ahead with complicated, innovative ideas... that in reality solve nothing and are a waste of time (Pickle Rick?? Leg Rick?? Cloning his own daughter? The dumb time-loop in his own dimension? Replacing himself with a robot? Creating a robot ghost to scary Mr Poopybutthole instead of just telling him to leave??) Not to mention his many incredibly lame jokes.

Everyone does dumb stuff occasionally!!! No one is an impeccable genius of non-stop moments of brightness!! (even Eyepatch Morty, the most cautious character, the character who has made basically NO MISTAKES up to now, sounds dumb a couple of times: "I'm gonna do the thing I wanna do, with the curve thing" and "My biggest fear is other people being afraid. Of fear. Itself." lol).

If Rick hadn't been calling Morty a freaking idiot with every breath available, we wouldn't be thinking "oh look haha the moron became a stock broker, what a joke, must be some sort of fluke"; we would be thinking "what an incredibly gifted kid".

We would attribute Morty's many mistakes to lack of experience, to lack of wisdom, to youth, to enthusiasm, to idealism, to teenager hormones, to acting hastily.

We would wish to see him eventually mature, apply his time and effort to worthwhile endeavors instead (mainly) of inane teenage stuff. We would wish to see him do well in school, we would wish to see him reach his full potential and succeed in great things.

Only Rick keeps pounding our heads with how stupid Morty is, and all of Morty's successes are never mentioned again, but getting lost to oblivion in comparison to Rick's (who has 60+ years more experience) genius.
