well i did my post andor rewatch of rogue one and let me tell you. it does nothing for me in changing my enjoyment of rogue one. doesn’t even really enhance it for that much either. at least in regards to cassian like he’s not the main character of this movie and i enjoy it just the same without thinking about andor. rogue one is jyn’s story and the movie does that quite well and rewatching just reinforces that. makes me love her more than i already did.

what it does enhance is all the background characters. i’m looking at mon mothma completely differently and thinking about how kleya and vel are on yavin 4. AND MELSHI. everything i love about andor revolves around everyone but cassian himself. and i don’t even hate his entire characterization in andor which i’m sure someone will think reading this but when i watch rogue one honestly cassian is like in my head the least compared to the rest of rogue one crew. like i feel like i got what i wanted from him back in 2016 and now with andor it’s wanting me to recontextualize all that but i can’t because rogue one feels the same to me except maybe even more depressing.

this doesn’t even make sense and i can’t properly say what i’m thinking without coming off as completely andor hating which i’m not i’m just andor critical. but there’s also so much of that show i liked so i don’t know why i can’t put the two together. maybe i don’t want to. i like rogue one just as much as i did in the theater in 2016 when it was second star wars film in theaters i ever saw and i said holy shit star wars is so fucking cool. and if andor makes watching rogue one for you so much better i’m glad! i just can’t figure out why it doesn’t for me. but i’ve always put rogue one on a pedestal and will continue to do so because at the end of the day star wars is a fictional universe and i can have whatever opinion i want and so can everyone else.

Ok so…. Andor Spoilers but

It might be a compelling addition to the story but I still can’t get over two white men coming together to write Saw Gerrera (black) as a jet fuel drug addict peer pressuring others instead of just saying he’s using medical oxygen in Rogue One.

Did I like his monologue and the symbolism of it? Yes. Introducing self-medicating in multiple characters in the story as coping mechanisms introduced as a result of colonialism and oppressive labor and ptsd? I can see it, yes. Was it giving Reagan introducing drugs to marginalized and black communities? Also yes. There’s even an added layer in the article where it implies Luthen is enabling all of this.

But am I side eying it? Absolutely. Just by nature of the the behind the scenes elements.

This season of Andor seems to require a lot of weighing the cost-benefit analysis of storytelling choices vs stereotypes and tropes. I see a lot of ppl say “these characters just so happened to be people of color”. Maybe. I might use that explanation elsewhere too. But that’s why it’s always good to have advisors and writers of color to catch these potential blind spots. Especially since these characters are not new.

Just finished Andor and I am NOT fine (who is, really?)

This series is so incredibly good and hands down one of the best portrayals in fiction of what resisting fascism looks like.

And that's what makes Andor so dear to me because despite all the hardships and losses, there will always be hope and the pure idea of freedom.

actually the saddest thing about the rise of digital media is that i can’t physically eat andor (2022-2025)

there’s a new tony gilroy interview where he says that he didn’t rewatch rogue one when writing andor, instead relying on the opinion of those who did to make sure he was going in the right direction. he then follows that with talking about how fanfiction couldn’t be a motivating factor for him in writing the show… as though the overwhelming majority of rebelcaptain fics aren’t fix it fics that take place *after* the events rogue one or straight up alternate universe fics. but sure, trust the opinion of the people who haven’t dedicated years to writing these characters instead of taking notes from fanfics lol.

I will never trust anyone who claims that this look on Cassian’s face is purely platonic (or even worse: brotherly affection).

Because this look? This is the look of a man who feels something much deeper than friendship.

This is the look of Flynn Ryder during the boat scene with Rapunzel in Tangled.

This is the look of Rick O'Connell when looking at Evelyn at the end of The Mummy.

This is the look of Peeta Mellark when he touches Katniss's braid at the end of The Hunger Games.

This is the look of Mr. Darcy in the field when Elizabeth confesses her love in Pride and Prejudice.
