i wish i knew what ancient civilizations brain farts were like. you know some Roman mom had a baby on one hip and an amphora of wine on the other and she left the baby in the wine cellar by accident. or some guy in ancient africa was carrying a jug of water on his head and forgot about it because his friend went “oh fuck don’t step on that snake!!” (lying) and he looked down and the jug fell and shattered and his friend howled laughing about it for like 20 minutes. some servant girl in a medieval court accidentally said “shit” in front of her employer’s toddler and the toddler yells SHIT real loud and she’s like OH NO. a priest of Ra accepts a gift of money and a sacrifice of barley and accidentally throws the money into the sacrificial fire instead of the barley bc it’s been a long day and he just sighs real heavy. a sumerian dad tries to ask for 2 shekels worth of beer and says “soo brekels trekels” instead and gets so embarrassed he just leaves the tavern.
#lindsey shut up#i want to understand that sumerian dog joke more than I’ve ever wanted to know ANYTHING

Inquisition domesticated: Don Carlo revival in Staatsoper Berlin with Pape, Sartori, Haroutounian, Prudenskaya
The decision to go for Don Carlo in Berlin came in conjunction with booked Andrea Chenier at Deutsche Oper Berlin, which initially had Aleksandrs Antonenko role debut scheduled, and return flight on Monday morning thus providing opportunity to see an extra performance on Sunday. I was intrigued by seeing René Pape and somehow did not investigate further detail about the production except that it…

Robert Schumann's Scenes from Goethe's Faust | Staatskapelle Unter den Linden | Daniel Barenboim | ARTHAUS MUSIK from Arthaus Musik GmbH on Vimeo.
The Staatsoper Berlin is back in its place of origin: Unter den Linden! After major renovations, it reopens with Schumann’s Scenes from Goethe’s Faust, conducted by Daniel Barenboim. Under the direction of Jürgen Flimm and in the sets of acclaimed German artist Markus Lüpertz, Schumann’s orchestral work is transformed in a captivating drama. In the glow of the renovated opera hall Daniel Barenboim and the Staatskapelle Berlin perform alongside soloists such as Roman Trekel, Elsa Dreisig and René Pape. Besides the vocal parts, the main characters Faust, Gretchen and Mephistopheles are embodied by the renowned actors André Jung, Meike Droste and Sven-Eric Bechtolf.

Roman Trekel (Ulrich Eisenlohr, piano), Winterreise, Op. 89, D. 911: No. 11 Fruhlingstraum
I dreamt of colorful flowers Such as bloom in May; I dreamt of green meadows, Of merry bird songs.
And when the roosters crowed, My eyes awoke; It was cold and dark, The ravens were shrieking on the roof.
But there on the window panes, Who painted those leaves? Do you laugh at the dreamer, Who saw flowers in winter?
I dreamt of requited love, Of a beautiful girl, Of hearts and of kisses, Of bliss and happiness.
And when the roosters crowed, My heart awoke. Now I sit here alone, And think about my dream.
I shut my eyes again, My heart still beats warmly. When will you leaves on the window turn green? When will I hold my beloved in my arms?
