Day 1 Romancing Barret Week: Vacation

Heatwave (Barret/Cloud - Final Fantasy VII)

( for day 1 of @romancingbarret 🎉 had to write some Costa del Sol shenanigans with these two! )

Barret had his reservations about the sailor suit—mostly the fact it was the dictionary definition of a tight fit—but he would’ve been caught dead in some Shinra uniform. Plus, it grew on him. He looked damn good in it, too! But the stiff fabric paired with Costa del Sol’s relentless heat made it a mild annoyance and promised outright misery if he persisted.

Thankfully, the resort town offered plentiful swimsuit shops to cater to everyone’s taste. Maybe that was why the beach required “appropriate attire”. All the better to milk tourists of their gil. Money wasn’t an issue, though. Finding a swimsuit that didn’t make him roll his eyes? That was quite a tall order.

Floral prints weren’t exactly his thing. Neither were neon colors and obscure sayings across his ass. Barret eventually settled for a pair of blue trunks with white pinstripes. Mostly because it was one of the few options in his size, but also because it didn’t involve plastering hibiscus art on his lower body.

“Now to change outta this sweat factory and into these trunks,” Barret said to himself, exiting the shop with a tiny gift bag in hand.

As for Aerith and Tifa? Well, they were in Barret’s arms now. Though they’d made it to the beach, it wasn’t long before Tifa perched herself in Barret’s lap and pressed her lips to his. Aerith came up behind her and teased Tifa’s neck with kisses. His hand slid into Aerith’s hair and pulled on the strands while he slid his tongue into Tifa’s mouth. All three were panting by the time they came up for air. Tifa leaned back into Aerith’s embrace even as Aerith leaned forward to kiss Barret. “We should go inside,” Tifa murmured. “Why?” Aerith whimpered as Barret dragged his teeth over her lower lip. “We can have fun right here.” Tifa ground her hips down into Barret. He bucked up into her. “I don’t want anyone else to see,” she moaned. “Want to keep you two to myself.”

Eleanor was expecting her first, and all four of them were beside themselves with joy.

Barret still couldn't believe what they'd found for themselves, this little slice of happiness in a town that could be so hard to live in. There was so much love when the four of them were together. On the outside he figured they just looked like two couples, a pair of old friends who'd married each other; they didn't know that they'd all decided they weren't willing to give each other up to live what everybody thought was a normal life. He'd loved Dyne for years; man had been the first person he'd ever kissed, after all, years ago when they were barely grown enough to understand what feelings like that meant. For a while they'd figured they'd do for each other, even if the rest of the town pushed them to get married and start their own families.

But when Eleanor and Myrna had come to town from the south, well, that had changed. Barret hadn't understood it, at first. How could he think Myrna was the prettiest girl he'd ever seen when he knew he loved Dyne? And Dyne, well, he'd said the same thing about Eleanor - eventually. He'd never been so good at expressing his feelings. One reason why he got into so many misunderstandings as a kid.

Good thing the ladies were smarter than they were, he thought, smiling at the memory - turned out Myrna and Eleanor had been close too, that they'd left their village for a fresh start, to get away from the same pressures. It was fate that they'd all met, Eleanor had said - she'd come to help teach the kids their letters, and she'd been doing a hell of a job so far. And Myrna had just laughed - the toughest lady he'd ever met - and said that maybe she didn't believe in fate and hadn't expected anything like this when she'd run off to be with her lady friend. But she liked them too, and if it made them all happy, she'd give it a shot.

Maybe some of the others in town would think that this is strange, that they were just being greedy. Hell, Barret thought, maybe they were right. But when he was with the others, he didn't care. He was happy, and in a town where living was sometimes hard enough on its own, being happy was worth being strange for.

He grinned as he watched Myrna laugh with joy, placing her hand on Eleanor's belly to feel the baby kick. She wanted a baby of her own, and Barret meant to help her with that when they were ready; they just didn't have the means yet. But they'd raise them together, and those kids were gonna be the most loved kids in all of Corel Town. They would all make sure of it.
