so... i think i've achieved consistent one-phase pyro regisvine by leveling up kazuha's burst to 6 and bennett's aquila favonia to 85. which is good. but it can be better. i want to get to the point where popping chongyun's burst is enough to kill it. for now i still have to do some normals and a second pop of his skill in order to kill it

so i'm reading blitzed: drugs in the third reich by norman ohler rn and it is SO striking to me that the way he describes hermann göring is SO SIMILAR to how elon musk is:

[...] the second most important man in the state had developed a severe morphine addiction. Before he left his bedroom, "Möring," as he was secretly nicknamed, took his craftsman-made syringe with its gold ring out of its light-brown deer-hide case, pulled it open as usual, drew back the sleeve of his green velvet dressing gown as he always did, bound his arm, narrowed his eyes to find the right spot, and gave himself a massive injection. It took only a few seconds for the morphine to enter his blood. A huge ruby brooch glittered spectacularly on his chest. Göring's eyes were now big and gleaming, pierced with pinprick pupils. The world lay at his feet, and in his blissfully opium-soaked brain he decided that the glorious victory over the Allies should under no circumstances be left to the arrogant leaders of the army. Göring suffered no consequences resulting from [the Operation Sea Lion] failure. He still held court in the huge building of the Reich aviation ministry, built of pale stone blocks on Wilhelmstrasse. Red Reich war flags emblazoned with a swastika fluttered confidently above, as if to point out unequivocally that even the winds were subject to the power of this government and particularly to that of the Reich Marshal. But anyone who passed through the big cast-iron gate and crossed the broad forecourt stepped into a realm of chaos, of unbridled alcohol and drug abuse, of intrigues and general mismanagement. (pg. 94)

Often during discussions, Göring, once the opium content of his blood had dropped, felt so deranged that he would leave the room abruptly without a word of explanation, then return a few minutes later, plainly much refreshed. A general described one such surprising transformation: "Göring had the air of being new-born, he looked magnificent and fixed his sparkling blue eyes on us. The difference in his whole appearance between the first and second parts of our conference was notable. For me it was clear that he had been taking some form of stimulant. (pg. 95)

Chapter 81: A Council of Green

The dinner was uncomfortable for you all. Just as expected. 

You had gotten dressed for the evening with the help of Joanna and Amala, a black dress with red stitching and embroidery, hair half up, and half done in intricate braids with small rubies laid inside.

Aemond had been dressed in his usual black leathers again, the tunic buckling up high on his throat, but his hair was braided back and away from his face, half up, half down. 

Two halves of a whole.

You had walked together, anticipation strumming in your veins with every step you took towards the Great Hall with Aemond. Anxiety steadily building as you got closer, knowing that you would be in the presence of Aegon once again, and not only that, but his entire small council including the slimy Lord, Jason Lannister.

When you had arrived, you had been relatively on time. Most of the Lords arrived at the same time as you, with Alicent decked in her usual deep green. She had blinked at you oddly, as though she had not expected you to join, or that she had been told that you would not.

Though Aegon was nowhere to be seen.

Ser Otto Hightower however, did not even spare you a second glance, as though you were part of the furniture or one of their tacky Seven tapestries that defiled the castle walls.

Perhaps you were like a part of the furniture by now.

There, seen, and rarely heard.

When Aegon finally arrived, all having waited for him for a time, food already atop the table, he was flanked by Ser Cole, who announced his entrance to the Great Hall and the small council who joined as though they were not aware of who the pompous silver haired fool was already.

The wives of the Lords of the Small Council were also present, dressed conservatively in their House colours, bright blues and soft yellows and reds. When you had sat yourself down and looked amongst the long wooden table, you had attempted to gage the attention of the other women, hoping that perhaps you could make a friend. But none of the women turned to acknowledge you, avoiding your eye carefully.

The table was full tot he brim, and even the longer tables that flanked the sides of the Hall were full of men and women, servers and guards stationed about the sides of the room. There were even some lower Lords who were not a part of the council, but in charge of large plots of land or advantageous Houses and trades. 

It was, for the most part, a loud and joyous affair for them, or for all those except anyone who had witnessed the Prince and the King’s spat. Whenever Aegon’s eyes would graze over the two of you, landing on you in curiosity, the Maester or another Lord like Jasper Wylde, or even Otto Hightower would ask the King a question, speaking loudly to gain his attention. 

Like you would a child.

But whilst most eyes were not on you, you felt a pair beside the King’s short glances to be particularly burning. 

Jason Lannister sat at the end of the table, donned in his House colours of red and Gold, his blue eyes glued to you and Aemond. Beside him, an empty chair where his wife would have been.

"And where is your wife, Jason.” Aegon asked, noting the absence of the woman, and the presence of every other Lords.

“She sends her apologies that she could not join me in King’s Landing. She is recently with child, and well…” Jason intoned, a limacious smirk winding on his face, “You know how women get when they swell.” 

The Lords wives stayed quiet, some with small, shy smiles on their faces in mock agreement whilst the Lords half heartedly agreed, others more enthusiastically than others.

It made your skin feel alight. 

“And how do they get, Lannister?” Your voice carried across the table snidely before you could stop it. 

A knife scraped across a plate, and all eyes were on you. You could feel Aemond’s careful gaze on the side of your cheek as you stared at Jason. 

Prick. 

The sound of Aegon snickering caught your ears, and you fought to not turn and face him. 

The Lord pressed his tongue into his cheek as he looked at you, “Well, I am sure you will find out in due time.” He smiled, eyes flicking from you to Aemond. 

“Of course, but I’m asking you.” You smiled back falsely, reaching to take a sip from your wine primly. 

Jason laughed, and some of the other Lords laughed awkwardly with him, sensing the tension, “My wife,” He began, looking around the table, “Has a terrible craving for fried trout, and will burst to tears if she is without it. It goes without saying, her hysteria can be quite jarring.”

“Interesting.” You mused, placing the wine back down, “Perhaps she is not being adequately satisfied with other smaller meats.” You grinned. Aemond hummed in amusement beside you. 

Aegon bellowed, large hand slapping against the wood of the table jolting goblets and cutlery. The other Lord’s joined in with their King, seeing permission to laugh at your snide remark. Even Jason himself huffed out a laugh, though the smile did not reach his eyes, and his jaw was clenched tight. 

“My niece everyone.” Aegon boomed, “The sharpest of tongues and the tightest of cunts.”

The room burst into laughter again, some more nervous than others. Otto did not laugh nor smile, and Alicent glared at her son. Aemond inhaled sharply beside you, and from the corner of your eye, you saw Ser Cole shift. 

"Aegon." Alicent warned beneath her breath, eyes darting from Aemond, to Ser Cole, and then back to Aegon.

“My brother is a lucky man.” Aegon hollered, raising his goblet up in mock toast. 

Aemond did not move, eyeing his brother down, anger radiating from him. 

It was perfect. 

You lifted your goblet to Aegon, toasting to yourself, before taking a deep sip, turning your head to Aemond, smiling. With a soft hand, you grasped his on the table, squeezing it twice. 

Aemond did not squeeze it back.

“That he is.” You smirked, head still turned to Aemond who slowly turned his gaze onto you. 

He was furious.

“And how is your son, My Lord?” You asked across the table, looking at Jason Lannister who’s face beamed with pride, “The last I remember was you offering his hand to me, not too long ago.”

Aemond took his hand away from yours and moved it under the table, gripping your thigh. 

“Loreon grows bigger by each day,” He grinned, “ A fine young Lord. He has his mothers eyes, but thankfully my hair. Can’t have a lion without its mane.” The Lord joked, and all chuckled with him. “Perhaps one day if you are to have a daughter, the Targaryen and Lannister Houses can be united.” He grinned. 

When the world is on fire, and I am long gone. 

The rest of the Lords moved to their own small conversations as you continued yours with Jason, feeling Aemond’s fingers dig meanly into the flesh of your thigh.

“Only if you were to build a Dragon Pit in Casterly rock. Our daughter will need to house her dragon there some day, and I expect I would come to visit.”

“You are welcome at the Golden Tooth whenever you please, Princess. We have the finest silk sheets, and the softest of beds.”

“I suppose I will have to see for myself if the riches of the Lannister House are truly what they are said to be.”

“If it is anything like the beauty of the Targaryen House is said to be, then you will find that the riches are just as spoken of.” He boasted and flirted. 

You had to bite your inner cheek from gasping as you felt Aemond’s hand bruise your leg meanly, his nails biting into your skin.

“You’d best watch yourself, Jason.” Aegon smirked, “Aemond looks ready to summon Vhagar.”

Jason paled, “My apologies, Your Grace. There were no ill intentions.”

“My husband is a possessive man and protective.” You intoned, turning your head to face Aemond whose eye was locked on Jason again, "Issa iā orvorta, ñuha dōna. Aegon burst into childish giggles, throwing his crowned head backwards against the high seat of his chair. Aemond’s jaw clenched. Whilst Jason cocked his head, not sure of what you had said and turned to join conversation with the other Lords.

You let your eye trail over the King, his crown atop his head, wavy silver hair peaking beneath it, a small blush on his cheeks from the ale. 

You were furious. 

You were enraged. 

You wished to hurt Aemond.

The rest of the tables eyes flitted to the sharp movement. You snatched your hand away from him, not even sparing the man a glance as you continued to refill your wine. 

"Konīr's bona ēngos,”There's that tongue, Aegon chuckled, smiling at you appreciatively, his eyes grazing down your body, "Nyke gīmigon iā sȳrkta gaomagon syt ziry.” I know a better use for it.

"Ȳdra daor.” Don’t, Aemond finally spoke, voice low and rough, hand returning to your thigh where he dug his fingers into it again, possessively and angrily.

Aegon giggled, excited that he had finally gotten Aemond to react, the unfinished fight between them simmering to almost a boiling point. “Nyke gōntan daor jiōragon naejot sylugon ziry.” I didn’t get to try it, Aegon pouted.

“Se kesā daor.” And you won’t, You purred, sipping your wine, “Yn ñuha valzȳrys gaomas.” But my husband does.

Aemond’s grip on your thigh tightened again, and you watched as he grabbed his goblet of wine and drank deeply from it.

You steeled yourself for what you were about to do, swallowing thickly as you looked Aegon in the eyes.

“Kostilus.” Perhaps.

The conversation had ended there, and Aegon had smirked, eyes half hooded as he looked at you. Alicent did not take her gaze from the three of you before you excused yourself, stating that you were tired and wished to leave your husband to his duties and fellow Lords for the rest of the evening. 

You had pried Aemond’s hand from your thigh and bowed to Aegon and the other Lord’s, reminding Jason Lannister that he should begin preparing a Dragon Pit for Casterly Rock, to which he grinned in response. Aemond’s heated gaze followed you as you left the Great Hall, walking back to your chambers alone. 

You arrived in your chambers and laughed loudly, furious at the news of Alys.

She was pregnant.

She was pregnant and he had not told you.

She was a greater risk to you now than before. You picked up a goblet at the side table and filled it with wine, already tipsy from the night, tossing its contents back down your throat. 

But Aemond’s reaction at dinner was another thing all together.

Bit random but, RWBY number headcanons

Ruby: Number 1. She is leader, she is protagonist, she is chosen one. Number 1 represents unity and Ruby is build up as unifier of Remnant

Jaune: Number 3. It's number that's associated with divine in Western culture and he is based on famous catholic saint. Joan of Arc heard three voices in her head.

Cinder: Number 4. It's number that's associated with world. Cinder wants all four Maiden powers, she wants to become strongest person in all four kingdoms. Number four is associated with death in East Asian cultures and Cinder is show's deathbringer.

Blake and Yang: Number 6 and 9 respectively. Ha, ha. They work as a pair, creating yin and yang. Chinese dragon has 117 scales, 81 masculine/yang and 36 feminine/yin. 81 is 9 squared and 36 is 6 squared.

Weiss: Number 7. It's a lucky number and she was born as a member of the richest family in the world. She is also Snow White and she had seven dwarves.

Oscar: Number 8. It's created out of two Os just like Oscar. He is both Oscar and Ozpin. 8 symbolizes infinity and one of the previous incarnations was Infinite Man. It also symbolizes cycle, just like Ozma's never ending reincarnation cycle.

Man, I think you gotta re-read from chapter 81 if you really think Ruby faced no consequences for the black hoshigan arc and hasn’t grown at all since. Like, she’s utterly alone (as a consequence of her own actions) and actively suicidal by chapter 121. The “The End” panel in chapter 121 is the genuinely cruel recompense for Ruby’s actions in the preceding 40 chapters; she’s in part isolated herself, in part driven her friends away, to the point where she’s seeking out Marina for a long-shot hope at ANY connection whatsoever. And the word of literal god, basically the authors’ mouthpiece, tells/shows her that it is hopeless, there is no such connection, she is completely alone.

And even after she re-establishes her connection with Gorou/Aqua and reopens herself to her relationships with her other friends and family, there are wounds on those relationships. Mending those wounds is the entire point of her sub-arc with Kana from 133 to 137. Also, notably, that’s where the real growth comes: where she is forced to dig into the depths of both her own and Ai’s psyches, acknowledges the emotions she finds and forces others to acknowledge them as well, and then finds a way to move forward with Kana specifically.

Notably, I think this is the specific area where we know she has surpassed Ai, at this point. Look back at those four pages of the performance in 159: while Ruby is clearly the focus, taking up roughly half of the total space on those pages and the center position in any shared panels, Kana and Mem are clearly each taking center stage as well for some songs, and the affection between the three is visible. In comparison, in how many of the panels in which Ai appeared did we ever see her teammates’ faces? Did we ever see her relinquish the stage? We know her friendships with the old B-komachi had essentially dissolved by the time the twins were born, Aqua tells us as much at the end of the prologue.

Sorry to say that I actually re-read the ch80-123 recently (I was trying to feel out how a hypothetical third season would be paced) and if anything, seeing just how many interesting ideas it sets up and fails to meaningfully iterate on just made me feel that even more strongly. What you've laid out in this ask is a good idea for the structure of BH Ruby's arc but if that was Akasaka's intent then the execution is so insanely botched that it is fundamentally absent from the work itself.

Like… there's no way for me to say this w/o sounding like i'm hitting you with an UM ACKSHULLY 🤓 but the idea that BH Ruby was even passively abandoned by her friends is just not supported by the text. We do see the beginnings of Kana's sense of inferiority towards Ruby take root just prior to Scandal starting up but this is framed as being emergent from Kana's own existing low self esteem (though admittedly triggered by Ruby wanting to add Mimi to B-Komachi). Moreover, it's more or less the same as how her feelings towards Ruby are framed during the Movie Arc, where Kana's jealousy is said to be a response to Ruby being "blessed with natural talent […] special and different from [her]". There is no textual connection drawn between Ruby's clout chasing and her behaviour towards Kana and Mem and Kana's sense of rejection and Kana never treats Ruby poorly as a result. Not only that but when Ruby is seen hanging out with Mem and Kana across those arcs, they're chatting and bantering like always and Kana is even actively supporting and mentoring Ruby in the immediate leadup to Ruby going to try and see Marina in ch121. In the actual text of the story, what leads to Ruby's breakdown is the physical and emotional stress and exhaustion of her massively overpacked schedule - something which is itself Miyako's fault, as explicitly called out by Kaburagi and Ichigo - and her lingering issues with Sarina's abuse and abandonment being quite literally triggered by her engaging and empathizing with material depicting Ai's abuse and abandonment at Ayumi's hands.

Outside of B-Komachi, the most we really get from her school friends that there's any cracks in their friendships is that little internal musing from Minami about Ruby getting tangled up in the "dirty world of adults" but that both comes before Aqua's assertion that BH Ruby is causing strain in her relationships and is clearly spoken out of affection and concern for her. Frill actively reaches out to and supports Ruby during the interpersonal audition way past Aqua's note about cracks and is basically the reason Ruby gets the role of Ai over herself or Akane.

Ruby is by no means abandoned by anyone. She is actively, effusively supported by everyone in her life the entirety of her BH arc. Even the one relationship she does end up fracturing - her and Aqua's - is repaired lickity-split as soon as the past life reveal happens and any tension in B-Komachi is reset to zero as early as 124 with no real nod to of any issues BH Ruby caused. In fact, the issues BH Ruby causes are never so much as acknowledged by the narrative, let alone addressed or worked through. When Kana is, finally, allowed to express any discontent to Ruby during the RBKN conflict, she is not actually permitted to confront her with any of Ruby's actual wrongdoing and is instead just mad that Ruby is more popular. This conveniently shifts the focus away from Ruby's behavior and so rather than having to actually address it, Ruby can simply graciously forgive Kana for being in the wrong and not do any meaningful work on the tension that exists in their relationship. The narrative absolves Ruby of responsibility, sparing her any genuine reckoning or growth.

You brought up B-Komachi as a point of comparison and as a place where Ruby has surpassed Ai but not only do I feel like these are apples and oranges, I also just feel like it's further proof that Ruby is not being allowed to learn and grow because the narrative excessively coddles her. Both Viewpoint B and 45510 explicitly say the issues with the group in a professional capacity are explicitly said to be the result of management excessively favouring Ai and not something she herself did and in Spica, we even literally see her attempt to surrender her center position to one of the other girls all while actively working hard to take steps to put them all in the best possible light even when she does have to be the center. And while there are interpersonal issues in B-Komachi, these are presented as two-sided failures to connect that Ai is actively show trying to resolve - Viewpoint B shows her approaching and reaching out to Kyun when she sees her feeling upset and the entire point of 45510 is Nino's utter revulsion and rejection in the face of Ai's vulnerability.

Not only that but like… Ai's behaviour never damages or endangers anyone's career! Gen 1 B-Komachi was certainly not a good environment for anybody in it, but everyone in it was still part of Japan's biggest and brightest idol group and enjoyed all the fame and money that came with it. Ruby, by contrast, very much did endanger the career of an entire TV show's worth of people and stepped on Kana and Memcho's backs in order to further her solo career. She is never so much as asked to examine this behavior or face any consequences for it and when we do finally see her express any sort of remorse or regret for her behaviour, it's all exclusively focused on how bad it felt for Ruby, personally to do bad things and how sad she, personally is that she decided to be shitty to people and then Aqua just wholly absolves her anyway. She never attempt to make amends with or even express concern for the people who she might have hurt in the process.

Because of this, both the Ai-Nino/Ruby-Kana parallels and the attempts to uplift Ruby as an idol 'surpassing' Ai fall flat. At no point past the Mainstay arc do we ever see Ruby correcting for Ai's mistakes or better handling situations that Ai had flubbed, mostly because she never gets a chance to. Her career as an idol is propelled along by the narrative failing to place any roadblocks in her way and rather than showing us Ruby's strength of character by letting her overcome social, structural and societal issues that troubled her mother, she is simply arbitrarily unaffected by them in any way that manifests in on-panel action taken by her.

This is what I mean when I say Ruby learns nothing—because the narrative, past a certain point, never challenges her or holds her accountable for her behavior in a way that would allow her to. Ruby is portrayed as a passive beneficiary of favorable circumstances, with any challenges she faces being swiftly neutralized by forces outside of her control or influence. This is not only frustrating to experience as a reader but ultimately diminishes the impact of her success as the story has begun presenting it.

Nintendo released its 3rd handheld juggernaut in March of 2001 in Japan and June 2001 in the US and EU for $100.

Instead of keeping their tried and true form factor from the original and Color versions of the Game Boy, the GBA used a wider form factor similar to the Game Gear and Lynx.

Over 1500 games were developed for the system world wide. Notable titles include: Pokemon Ruby/Saphire/Emerald, The Legend of Zelda: Minish Cap, WarioWare: Twisted, Drill Dozer, Megaman Zero 1-4, multiple entries in the Castlevania series, and many, many more....

The first 32-bit handheld system, fully backwards compatible with all Game Boy and Game Boy Color titles. It would go on to sell over 81 million units.

It continued the trend of the link cable port for multiplayer games as well as a special cable to connect to a controller port on the Gamecube, which featured gameplay elements for several cube games such as The Legend of Zelda Wind Waker, Four Swords Adventures, and Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicals. It could run for up to 15 hours on 2 AA batteries.

In 2003 Nintendo released the infamous clamshell redesign of the GBA for $100. The Game Boy Advance SP aside from being nearly half the size of the original, also had a front lit display and a built in rechargeable battery (F U C K I N G F I N A L L Y).

It also removed the headphone jack. You could still use headphones but it required an adapter cable that plugged into the proprietary charging port of the SP.

In 2005 Nintendo would release a new variant of the system that featured a backlit screen, making it much easier to see. The battery lasted around 10 hours with the screen light or about 18 hours with it off. It sold 43.5 million units.

Later on in 2005 Nintendo released the Game Boy Micro, it is the 2nd smallest cartridge based handheld they ever produced. Barely larger than the GBA carts you plugged into it, it was promoted as a budget alternative to the DS priced at $100.

It had swappable faceplates you could purchase to personalize your Micro. Another downside was the removal of backwards compatibility for OG Game Boy and Game Boy Color games.

It sold over 2.4 million units, well under Nintendo's projections. Iwata later admitted the DS hurt the sales of the Micro.

[ Directional Orbit ] Light - Stage 100 clear VOD

Here is my clear video for Xavier's Directional Orbit: Light - stage 100! I cleared this stage on Monday, 04/15. In this video it features both the first and second fight. For this trial it requires 2 teams: Team 01's Protofield Stellactrum requires 5 Amber + 1 Ruby; Team 02's Protofield Stellactrum requires 5 Emerald + 1 Pearl.

To recap on my experience on this fight... Looking back on my clear run with Team 01 my game play is a bit messy. I could have done better about grouping them up for shared damage, but it was fine seeing how I had 30s let on the timer by the end of the fight. Leveling up the lunar memories during previous stages really helped a lot. Other than that, this part of the stage was really straight forward. One 2-minute round against three wanderers with 3-HP bars + 2-protofield shields to break.

Now unlike the first round my run with Team 02 was hella sus. I mean just LOOK at my health bar when I cleared AHHaha ; w ; I thought my skills using the claymore got better after doing rafayel's directional orbit: fire - stage 90... but I need to remember that I am not a tank and can't take all those hits umu This is what happens when you're greedy for dps, trying to get those perfect dodges in. I'll need to work on them in the Training Center or smth bc I hate losing out on dps from being stun locked by taking unnecessary damage. Lesson learned from all that? There's always room for improvements. If I were to be honest I didn't think I was going to clear this run, assuming I was going to take more unnecessary damage and dying before I can finish off the boss. This was not my first run, but my second attempt that resulted in a clear. The first time I was using his Luminescence Blade. Using that weapon was fine, but it didn't give me as much damage output as I would have liked since I fell short of clearing by half its last HP bar. So I pulled out of the stage and switched to using the claymore. I know I sound like a broken record because I've said it before, but I'll say it again-- in claymores we trust to get the job done!
