Classification: Iron Ant Type: Bug/Steel Abilities: Swarm, Hustle, or Truant Egg Group: Bug Gender Ratio: 50% male, 50% female Size: 1'00" / 0.3 m Weight 72.8 lbs / 33.0 kg Native To: Rocky mountains, dry grasslands & savannas, deserts, caves. They create sprawling nests underground. Primarily in Unova, Kalos, and Galar.
3/10 - Would not recommend anyone keep a Durant other than for battle or in an academic/educational context.
Diet & Nutrition: Opportunistic Omnivore - Durant primarily consumes vegetation and fungi, but they will hunt or scavenge smaller Pokemon when necessary, especially if food sources are scarce. Their diet is heavily influenced by availability and their environment as they're capable of adapting to many foods.
Recommended Foods: Leafy Greens & Tough Vegetation - Durant have strong mandibles suited for breaking down fibrous plant material (e.g., Gogoat leaves, hardy root vegetables) Fungi - Some colonies have been seen cultivating fungi underground, a few even harvest fungi from Foongus and Paras. Berries - Durant can digest a variety of berries but tend to favor Rawst, Aspear, and Chesto berries. Protein Sources - While not primary hunters, they scavenge fallen pokemon and attack weaker bug-types like Wurmple or Cutiefly when an easy meal presents itself. In captivity, protein supplements work just as well. Minerals - Durant's steel typing means they require metals to maintain their exoskeleton. In the wild they ingest iron deposits. In captivity, iron supplements are required. Foods to Avoid: Sugary or Soft Foods - Durant's digestive system is adapted for tough, fibrous materials. Sugary foods can cause digestive issues and sluggishness. Processed Pokemon Food - There are few Pokemon food brands that cater to Durant. Many lack the mineral content and fiber Durant need, leading to weaker exoskeletons over time. Pokemon with Natural Toxins - Wild Durant may occasionally consume carrion but they don't possess the immunities to toxins produced by Pokemon like Venipede or Salandit.
Grooming & Maintenance: Durant are generally low-maintenance Pokemon in terms of grooming as their exoskeleton naturally protects them from dirt and damage. However, regular upkeep is necessary to prevent rust and weathering. More upkeep is required for Durants kept alone since they usually groom each other.
Rust Prevention - If a Durant is frequently exposed to moisture, they may develop rust along their joints. A dry environment and iron-rich diet help, but if rust appears a gentle rub with a fine-bristle brush (or steel wool in severe cases) can remove it. In severe cases, casts or bandages may be required to cover weakened areas after rust is removed. Mandibles - Durant rely on their mandibles or defense and foraging. In captivity they should be provided with hard minerals to chew to maintain strength and sharpness. It's also recommended to occasionally brush their mandibles to remove debris. Molting - While adult Durant do not molt like most bug-types they do shed thin flakes over time, periodic dust baths are recommended to help remove flakes. Young Durant require additional help with molting if it is housed alone, the metal exoskeleton is difficult for them to remove on their own. Providing rough surfaces for them to rub against is usually enough, in severe cases do not attempt to remove shed on your own, bring the Durant to a bug-type specialist.
Daily Exercise Requirement: Durant are high-energy Pokemon that require constant physical activity to prevent destructive behaviors. In the wild they are always moving and sleep only around 5 hours each day. A sedentary Durant may become restless and aggressive, especially if housed alone.
Recommended Activities: Digging - Durant should have access to diggable material (e.g., compacted soil, sand, or synthetic burrowing pits). If housing doesn't allow digging, artificial tunnels should be provided. Weighted Training - Durant are incredibly strong for their size and benefit from their strength being tested. Providing large stones or other heavy objects to transport mimics natural behaviors and provides physical activity.
Mental Stimulation Needs: Unlike highly intelligent Pokemon, Durant do not require complex mental stimulation but benefit from task-based enrichment.

Escape Prone - Not due to intelligence, but because they dig constantly and can tunnel out of enclosures if not properly contained.
How They Interact with Other Pokémon: Durant prefer working in groups and function best with Pokemon that share their work ethic. While cooperative within a structured group, they do not bond emotionally like more intelligent Pokemon. Durant are also highly territorial and will not tolerate strangers in their space even if not directly provoked. Due to natural predator-prey relationships with Heatmor, Durant may react aggressively toward fire-types. Non-threatening burrowers (e.g., Sandshrew, Diglet, Drilbur) may be tolerated.

Kitchen Witch Essentials
I want to preference this by saying your priorities of tools for your craft will vary as you get more experienced. If you get more into baking, you may choose to invest in a kitchen mixer. If your path goes more down drinks, you might want to get a French press. This list is for those starting out or looking to maintain general witchy cooking. Nothing on this list is mandatory, so don't feel like you need to go spend money just because it's on this list.
This list will also assume you have general kitchen stuff, like pots, pans, and knives. You may not have everything, but you have enough to cook.
Wooden Spoon
If for whatever reason you don't have a wooden spoon, and you want to do kitchen magic, I strongly recommend you go and get one. You can get them at any store that sells Kitchen Utensils, including the dollar store.
For some kitchen witches, the wooden spoon is like a magic wand. Allowing the witch to direct energy. Personally, I just enjoy using natural materials whenever I can. Also, it's just such a useful tool to have when cooking. You can stir your food on stove top, and since it's made of wood you don't need to worry about damaging non stick surfaces. If you're boiling pasta, stirring with a wooden spoon helps get rid of the foam overboil. You can also just leave the spoon over the pot to prevent pasta water overboiling. Baking bread? Flip the spoon around and use the handle to bring the dough together.
Some people choose to add sigils or other symbols onto their witchy spoons. If you decide to do this, please do not use paint or stain, as this can come off while cooking. Unless this will be a display only spoon, of course. Safest way is to laser burn a design. Check etsy for custom spoons.
Herbs/Spices you know the properties of
I'm sure you already have some non perishable Herbs or Spices in your pantry or spice rack. Black Pepper, Garlic powder, Cinnamon, Paprika, that kind of thing. I want you to pick one and deep dive into the history of that Herb/Spice. What it's been used for in the past, what are some common magical properties and associations; what do YOU associate with it. Write down the magical association, like protection, banish negativity, prosperity, ect. Start with one, work your way up to three. If you have trouble memorizing, keep a little cheat sheet near by.
Now when you add these seasonings, you know what energies you can add/attract with your food.
Mortar and Pestle
If you already have another way to grind spices, like a coffee grinder, this does not need to be a priority. And if you have arm or shoulder issues, I don't recommend using. The main benefit to using a mortar and pestle is the crushing style of grinding tends to release more aroma and flavor then the cutting style of a coffee grinder. If you plan to just use for dry spices, you won't need a very big or fancy one. 20 dollars should get you something small and solid.
Make sure you are getting one made of stone. I tried a wooden one and it's garbage. I use it to hold messy spoons. There are also metal ones, and while I've never tried one, I encourage caution. I worry about long term use stripping whatever coating is stopping it from rusting.
Jars
Glass Jars are so great to have in the kitchen. Leftover sauce? Put it in a jar. Suddenly made a jam? We got jars to put it in. Meal prep overnight oats? Jars are here for you! They're just great for storage. And you don't need to buy them. Lots of things come in jars; just give them a hot soapy soak, scrap the label off, wash and reuse. If you prefer mason jars, I recommend washing the lids by hand. The lids aren't meant to be reused for jarring, so they rust fairly quickly after a few washes. You can buy replacement lids, however.
Plastic Containers
Jars are great, but things get a little dicey when you want to put stuff in the freezer. Water likes to make sure everyone knows it's cold by puffing up bigger; like look at me, I'm freezing here! Which means, there's a chance your glass jar can shatter.
But freezing food is the best way to preserve food since you don't need to add anything like extra salt or sugar. So get some freezer safe containers. I love making batches of broth and stock, and freeze it for later. Or if we have a lot of leftovers, I'll freeze enough for a dinner another week, incase I don't have enough spoons to make dinner one evening. And don't worry, you can wash and reuse plastic containers too.
I'll also freeze food I notice is starting to go weird. If I buy a huge bag of baby spinach, but can't get through it all, I'll transfer it to a freezer bag. Adding frozen spinach to food as it cooks is one of the easiest ways to up your nutrients. You can also freeze other vegetables, just make sure you cut them up first.
Crock Pot/Slow Cooker
Every Witch Needs a Cauldron, and these are Electric Cauldrons. Prices vary mainly based on the size you want. There are different brands, different colors; you can even get some in the theme of your favorite fandom. But they all have the same 3 core settings: High, Low, and keep warm.
Slow cookers are....well, slow. Which is great for certain kinds of food that need to sit for a long time, like meats. But it's also great for Kitchen Witches with a lot going on. Non witches will "Set it and forget it" but it's a good idea to stir every once in a while. Which is where the magic comes in. So, if you're a scatter brained Witch, Like me, or have ADHD and have trouble focusing, an electric cauldron might be for you. Throw everything together in 15 minutes, then give it love and attention when you remember. Normally that happens when you start to smell the food.
Again, this is my preference. Some Kitchen Witches I know prefer to identify a specific pot as their cauldron. Some went and got an actual full size, cast iron cauldron; which is amazing but not feasible for most. I grew up using a slow cooker, so I'm very comfortable around one. But if it's not your thing; that's fine. Maybe your cauldron will be a rice cooker or a Boston Shaker.

Jaune as the Rusted Knight is a stand-in for Ozma. Driven by guilt over the people he couldn't save, and determined to save everyone else whether they want it or not. Like, holding the Paper Pleasers hostage is analogous to Ozma's laser focus on preparing humanity for the gods' return, or rather, on preventing humanity from becoming something that doesn't need the gods' return. Like maybe there's nothing here past the surface level? This is one of those things that just hit me and I'm writing it down before it leaves my brain forever yk

“they don’t know what they want! […] afterans are all either too clever, too stupid, or too crazy to trust!”
“i feared that making you all aware would only add anxiety and negativity. [not telling them grimm are attracted to the relics] seemed like the safer option.” and “i believed the kingdom of mistral deserved better than the truth.”
and “do you really think leo was the first? […] i’m sorry, but you have to understand that my behaviors are backed by experience. i’m not saying i have reason to think you will betray me; i’m saying that i have reasons for the things i do, the secrets i keep, the reason i…”
so all those times you talked about having faith in humanity, that was just for everyone else?
same behavior. same condescension. same motive—to protect the vulnerable (ignorant, dependent) people of an unfamiliar world from annihilation. and just as ozma repeats the same cycle over and over again across every life, so does jaune do the same things every single day; both of them stagnating in circles of their own making.
two things interest me about this.
the first is that jaune is, prior to V9, salem’s heroic foil—the “lovable idiot stuck in the tree while his friends fight for their lives,” the girl in the tower watching her father slaughter everyone who tries to help her. both of them defined by grief; cinder is to jaune as the god of light is to salem. what sets jaune apart from salem is that she just wanted to be free—whereas he wanted to be the hero.
so once jaune is forced into a position where he can’t save somebody [mercy-killing penny = killing ozma + the girls dying in the crossfire] that breaks him in the opposite direction it broke salem; she gives up and withdraws to live in isolation among grimm, he rots in this scenario he created where he gets to be the heroic protector. and in doing so he becomes ozma.
the interesting piece here is that the resolution to this arc, his restoration, comes by way of jaune letting go of his paranoid fear of the tree and accepting what the afterans told him: the tree doesn’t kill, it resurrects and rebuilds. it destroys in order to create.
in… other words, jaune-as-ozma doesn’t understand the importance of life and death. jaune-as-ozma cannot break his curse until he learns that the tree’s endless wheel of life-death-rebirth isn’t evil or cruel.
the second is that jaune as the rusted knight acts out of irrational fear: the certain threat of annihilation he imagines isn’t real. ozma, of course, heard “your world will be wiped from existence” directly from the god of light himself, so he has much greater reason to believe in it. but…
where is the god of darkness? if he still exists as he was then, does he know? did he agree to put humanity up to this test? if he ascended and became something new, he cannot return to remnant with his brother at all and his choice to ascend amounts to a permanent decision to leave remnant as it is and let humanity do as it will. is the divine contract even enforceable? can the brothers take back the power they abdicated when they left the planet in flames behind them?
the paper pleasers ascended and returned in a new form that could not be threatened by the force that wiped them out. the brothers revoked their blessings and wiped humankind off the face of the planet; salem remade herself in the pool of grimm, and humanity rose from the ashes.
for it is in passing we achieve immortality: through this we become a paragon of virtue and glory, infinite in distance and unbound by death. i release your soul, and by my shoulder protect thee.
our souls transcend death, says salem, who lived to see the mass grave the brothers left behind heave itself back to life again.
this force of pure destruction could not destroy a being of infinite life, so it created a being of infinite life with a desire for pure destruction. (humans are both destruction and creation, dark and light in one.)

Anyway can u tell me about Horrortale and Horrrorswap and their personalities?
What a coincidence I am taking a break from drawing! Definitely a break and not procrastinating 👍
The horror boys!! Starting with the classic duo, Dove and Patch, depending on where in the timeline, their relationship is...a little rough. Almost all of my horrors started out as their classic counterparts before diverging, following similar origins as the original horrortale.
I'll focus mainly on "post recovery" though since, while still underground, both brothers are...not doing so hot! That being said, after some time to recover and get their bearings, things are a bit tense between them. Regardless of what transpired underground, they still care about each other, but both cope with what happened in significantly different ways that also clash sometimes.
Dove is...pretty similar to Rus, in a lot of ways. He’s trying to move into the future with his best foot forward, but it's difficult at times. Both literally and figuratively. He wound up with a lot of chronic health problems from the mutations that prevent him from pursuing life in the ways he used to be able to.
He doesn't let that stop him, at least more than he can help, but it does serve as a constant reminder of what he’s lived through, which can be just as mentally taxing some days.
Patch on the other hand. Well, he's still Sans, but...he doesn't trust so easy anymore. Which is saying something considering how "easily" he trusted before. Mostly, his priorities are him and his brother and not much else. It took a while (and medication) for him to really believe they were finally safe again, and it'll take much longer still to trust things wont just regress again.
He’s very rough around the edges, doesn't joke or even speak all that much anymore. He deals with his own chronic conditions, but physically, they're not usually as troublesome as Dove's. He'll ease up more with time, and he’s not entirely closed off to trusting others if they can really prove themselves to him, but that's mostly monsters alone. He'll probably never fully trust a human again.
As for the hs brothers, tbth, I have about three different versions of their origins (post diverging from a normal us) and I haven't really been able to settle one which I actually prefer for canon. Which means! Their characterizations are subject to change, but probably not *too much, since I'm pretty happy with how they've turned out thus far!
Focusing again on "post recovery" Coal and Rust...certainly have their own struggles with each other, too. They're haven't totally broken apart, and Rust has a weird like...avoidance yet protective thing going on with Coal. He’d rather not spend a lot of "casual" time around him, but he’s also very protective of him around others, so he winds up lingering nearby if new people are involved.
Coal has his own problems with his brother, especially with the fact he won't take advantage of the fact they're finally safer to heal. Frankly Rust would probably never make any effort to recover himself, he'd have to be "inspired" into it by something, but that something isn't ever gunna be Coal, and so that can be a cause of friction between them, too.
Independently, Coal is friendly. He probably comes across pretty similarly to a cross between Blue and Berry, as far as attitude and energy level, but he’s also entirely blind, which of course brings its own challenges with it.
Unfortunately a lot of his progress is due more to repression than actual healing. But! He’s...working on it. He'd be incredibly excited to explore the surface world, but don't let his presentation fool you. He’s about as genuinely trusting as Patch.
Rust...has a lot of hang ups. A lot. His belief that anyone can do better had certainly been put to its paces, and...well, he hasn't totally become bitter and resentful. But he'd rather just kinda exist than live.
Between the physical chronic problems, and the weight of all the mental ones, it makes every step into a new life very, very difficult, which is why he’s so stuck in his ways. With time, and with something somehow managing to push him to it, he'd do better. He'd never be like his old self, but he'd level out a lot and at least be able to enjoy the peace.
