Friendship Week Day 3: Kim & Duncan!

On Youtube together for: 11+ years!

It's a shame I only had one male/female friendship on here, but to be fair, if I included all my favorite male/female internet friendships, the entire list would be filled to the brim with Yogscast duos (Rythian and Zoey, Boba and everyone, Lydia and everyone, etc) and I wanted to have some variety!

Nevertheless, Duncan and Kim's friendship as Flux Buddies is an absolute highlight among the many fantastic friendships throughout the Yogscast! You can literally see them start out a bit awkward between each other at the start of their Apprentice series, and by the time they got to the series finale of Flux Buddies both their RP and IRL selves were ride-or-die for each other!

A bond so close that they're the only Yogscast duo to complete a multi-season Minecraft RP series with no cliffhangers!

it’s Rythian in the Tales of Arcadia series! I watched toa just after the release of trollhunters season 3 I believe, honestly love the plot and characters in it. I usually rp as Rythian and dress him up so he fits in many other fandoms. had too much fun rping in the toa fandom at the time and became obsessed with his design, purble man

I usually have him as the librarian of the town and or an english teacher at the local high school. at some point he acts like the dad to many of the rambunctious kids in town

I’ve Connected the Dots (I Haven’t Connected Shit): Dawnlight Theory

Okay so most of my theories so far have had to do with a world where Dawnlight becomes explicitly canon to the main timeline but this theory works just as well for an independent canon Dawnlight!

So, as many of you know/remember, blazeborn!Zoey was a really popular theory back in the day for Blackrock (with Zoey’s eyes being golden for parts of season 2 as a nod to that). With a lot of the death imagery floating around (Zoey’s design being necromancy themed and ‘Styx’ ‘crematorium’ & ‘dead book’ being mentioned in rythian’s tattoos), it would be interesting if the Nether was less another realm like in a planar cosmology, but more of an underworld (like Styx implies). It could be interesting then for Zoey to be associated with warped mushrooms and basically be the princess of the underworld (or potentially just a strong necromancer depending on the structure of the nether).

With Kirsty’s backstory, being one of the only survivors of the destruction of Peony, the death theming extends throughout the first 4 episodes and the combination of aesthetics and already established Dawnlight lore, dealing with death/grief seems like it is going to be a major theme as the series continues. Having a character with a very different relationship to death, then, creates so many interesting dynamics for characters. Assuming Dawnlight!Zoey’s personality is not radically different than any other versions of the character, I wouldn’t be surprised if there was a descent amount of tension between her and Kirsty due to a flippant/much more casual attitude towards death. This is doubly true if Zoey is (at least initially) an obstacle in achieving whatever the gang’s goal is at the time of her introduction.

It is harder to theorize further than this right now with how little information we have about the world and also about what the plot of the story will be. Yes there is Rythian’s End Adventure but the very vague nature of Briony’s pilgrimage is really interesting too.

It could just be an easy way to allow for the plot to be whatever it needs to be, but that feels a little unusual to me considering the audio drama component of the series. If it was the usual LP/RP mixture then it wouldn’t catch my attention as much. With already knowing the basics of Kirsty’s backstory and the current plot following Rythian’s story, knowing so little about Briony feels intentional. The passing mention of “[her] people” but no mention of a name of them, the pilgrimage all combined with the lack of details about the goal of the pilgrimage when Briony’s quest is established as the base plot that the story will return to is very unusual (in the way that it suggests that that information is being hidden for a reason).

It could be that Briony is hiding it from the others for some reason or that the story is intentionally hiding it from the audience but not the characters. Every instance of dialogue that reinforces this could be used for either interpretation at the moment since we have so little information to use to rule things out, but it is definitely something I am keeping in my mind as the series continues.

I bring this up because the specific word choice of “pilgrimage” has been used to describe Briony’s journey *and* was mentioned in Rythian’s tattoos. Considering that the portion of the tattoos that the word was contained in was similar to “the alphabet used in the capitol”, Briony choosing to translate the word as pilgrimage is also interesting and suggests some sort of link there.

With Briony learning witchcraft, the story could have chosen to have Briony remember some symbols she saw in old manuscripts or something instead, but the story chose to have it be tied to a language she knows. It feels very intentional to hint at her backstory in such a way that implies some sort of connection to the truth behind the runes.

By connecting these two storylines, it begins to focus the story closer to its focal point and I will be really interested to see how Zoey will fit into this picture even if I don’t have enough points to connect her to it all quite yet, I think it is really fun looking at how much you can try and construct so early on in the series!

ok yeah so we all have our daydream delusions of who we want to join the server and be part of the federation, right??? mine even include people i don't know but i hear people wanting so im like ok... i will conjure an interpretation of this person for my federation member daydreams based on what i've seen on twitter dot com... that being said here are my delusions but i dial back the detail as to not get embarrassing about how much i daydream

so first i rainbow color-coded them based on the 8 timer room doors, royg CYAN biv PINK right? but at the same time i wasn't sure how accurate my color placings were of some people i wanted so instead my current interpretations are not color-constrained and look like THIS

head scientist, with the most power - tinakitten - she deserves it, i want her to have an important federation role IMMEDIATELY upon joining, and considering that she's possibly the carrot in ice hint... LET'S GOOOO, yes she must be evil for my visions to come to fruition, my interpretations of her are based on her conflict with c!quackity back in the dsmp. she has gone down a dark road..... i forgive her though LUL

HE'S GOT A LOT OF FIGHT IN HIM!!! but here's the kicker HE IS BRAINWASHED TO SOME EXTENT to have RESENTMENT TOWARDS C/Q!BBH so it causes a rift between them that q!bbh will desperately try to patch. he retains trauma from dsmp so he has a dislike towards lava but can't seem to remember WHY either out of brainwashing or out of his brain blocking it out, and he has a strong preference to ice because of it. he finds the cold comforting. hope ur heart broke just then.

+ bonus - skeppy jr or simply named junior - the federation's kid that skeppy brought along :) mostly skeppy, lya, and cupquake look after the little buddy. junior was given prosthetic robot arms built into a backpack so they use them to moves around more than their little feets and they use them to play on a gameboy advance :)

Kirbycraft did get a couple of edited down episodes!! Only a couple though.. But they are fun!

Mostly I think people are losing their minds (me included) because Mr. 10 Years Ago I Made A Series Where I was Kidnapped And Raised By The Dragon To Wage War Only For Me To Escape And Be Haunted finally killed the Ender Dragon properly in survival. It's not at all a continuation because the series was full RP and this is just him having fun with friends, but it has a certain finality that the original story never got.

oh i was unaware of that! hmmm perhaps ill check them out at some point. maybe. no promises...and yeah lol rythian finally actually killing the ender dragon for real, even though it’s not rp-related, is the closest we’ll get to modern blackrock :’) love to see it. or in my case hear about it lol. go ender boy go

wowowowow I cannot believe I’m fixating on a decade old series!!! And I looked it up and the Yogscast don’t even do this anymore :((I wish I coulda reacted to this in real time with people !!!

I know, right? Those old days were a blast. My favorite part was the theorizing about what was under Rythian's mask: people had some really cool ideas, so cool that Rythian was reluctant for YEARS to actually say the truth, because he didn't want to squash people's creativity. Another awesome part of the active fandom in those days were the umbrella Rythian memes. No idea how to explain that one. I did miss a lot of community interaction because I was so young and new to the internet, but the wonderful time I've had with people since makes up for it.

The only Yogs who does any Minecraft anymore is Martyn--and boy is he doing lore. He is NOT the one I would've pegged as still doing Minecraft RP in 2022, my goodness.

It does make me sad sometimes thinking about how so many people have moved on to other things--but you're just joining us now, which is so great! And Lucian (glistering-melon) is also a recent addition to the community. As long as we still love it, and make art for it, and share it with other people, it's still alive.

unfortunately i really don't have the time or the attention span to keep up with livestreaming or vods so have just been seing stuff about kirbycraft on dash. If you know/it's too much trouble could you give me the cliffnotes of Rythian kirbycraft stuff of importance?

Apologies for the late response! I was a few streams behind on KirbyCraft so I wanted to be fully caught up before answering. So KirbyCraft isn't really a rp but there is some lore and plenty of nods to Blackrock, so I have broken it down by stream in case there is a specific moment you are interested in/want to watch for yourself!

Stream 1: 20/01/2023 - Rythian died immediately - Rythian "finagled" his way into the group - "You can't trust endermen" - Ryhian is the only one with a brain cell "deep breaths rythian, deep breaths" - (Exasperated) "don't cause trouble with the endermen!" "don't cause war with the endermen, that's like 3 seasons from now" - "I can give you all the lore if you want" "Their entire world got ruined by a big ol' magical experiment so now it's a wasteland" - (after being called edgy) "listen. edge is my history. I can't pretend I wasn't an edgy boy. I'm holding onto that" - In response to "if we're cold, they're cold" about endermen "He's not cold - he comes from a dimension of void. He has no sense of temperature!"

Stream 2: 27/01/2023 - Rythian is assigned the leaky room below the farm (even out of rp rythian gets the shitty room)

Stream 3: 03/02/2023 - Rythian is a canonical boob man - (In response to Briony being excited about the idea of getting an enderman to pick up a pumpkin) "why are you so excited about an enderman, they re evil" "Briony, you are so naive, you'll be the death of me one day"

Stream 4: 10/02/2023 - (About endermen) "I may or may not speak that language"

Stream 5: 24/02/2023 - Au is different from blackrock lore (Rythian can be friends with endermen)

Stream 6: 03/03/2023 - The gang decides to live in a woodland mansion Rythian's wrestling intro is "the voodoo people" (pendulum remix) by Prodegy - "I may not have a finatical hatred for endermen, based on my character's backstory, anymore, but they're still dangerous enemies!" - Rythian goes into how he joined the Yogscast and that he has always had a passion for creative projects so the moment he had the chance to make one, he made Blackrock

Stream 7: 10/03/2023 - Rythian says endermen deserve nothing but then backtracks and says they can have a block. Is deemed a "big softie" for showing the smallest amount of not-hatred towards endermen - Rythian blames a portion of their house burning on an enderman - Rythian (about getting xp back after dying) "I guess I gotta go either go on a killing spree or find some nether quarts I suppose" Briony "Oh, no it's happening. Rythian has reached peak evil Rythian" "It's the evil alt-rythian"

Stream 8: 17/03/2023 - "Beginning of my villain arc? maybe" literally 5 seconds later quotes the lil jon remix of cooking by the Book - Kirsty calls the idea of the end cute Rythian: "It's not. It's terrifying and despair enducing"

Stream 9: 31/03/2023 - Rythian suggests giving the enderman that lives in their house a gift (something pretty that grows) because the End is devoid of anything twits a conversation about bears to (half-jokingly) say that it is okay that he kills endermen because it is 'in his nature'

Stream 10: 14/04/2023 - Only briony can tame endermen by looking them in the eye. Rythian jokes about how many mystery mods are in the mod pack and how he would prefer that all endermen are automatically hostile and "go full-on ender-war" - Rythian is against adding a big-titty-endermen mod - Because the end was transformed into a wasteland with no resources/food, its inhabitants changed into a form that could survive without sustenance. Endermen can survive most poisons, diseases, and curses. - Rythian compares the 'friendermen' to slave soldiers - Rythian describes as an "angy boy" - Originally Nilesy was supposed to be a part of KirbyCraft

Stream 11: 21/04/2023 - Rythian doesn't like that the endermen seem to think that their mansion is a safe place for them - Rythian tries to befriend an enderman and it says "I remember you" - Rythian acknowledges the usefulness of befriending endermen
