Seasonal "sparrows feasting in fields after rice harvest" scene for this antique outfit.

The lovely soft grey kimono shows suzume (sparrow) fluttering in a bamboo grove, a popular winter motif.

The auspicious embroidered obi depicts an ema (Shinto wooden plaque), with a sparrow flying by bountiful inaho (ears of rice).

Obi's woven ground is a lovely example of honmon rinzu (figured satin ground combining orchid, chrysanthemum, and sayagata), a pattern often found on women kimono items.

Description: An unknown bird called the Sasa is said to live on the islands of Kandavu and Viti Levu, which are apart of the nation of Fiji. It is said to be ground dwelling, the size of a chicken, and has a speckled plumage. Cryptozoologists think the bird could be a new species of megapode.

Best angst moment a):

The way she cradles Sasa, her only source of comfort...? On the worst day of her life after Anil has seemingly left her for another woman and she's going to marry a man she despises while her friend is telling her to smile? Only Sasa can comfort her now; of course Pin will cling to the small connection she has left to the love of her life as hard as she can. Breaks my heart every time.

But yeah. Kath taking the time in an active war-zone while they're being hunted to take pictures with Lin? Iconic.

Best angst moment b):

The end of the WW2 'verse was a close contender, but this scene absolutely obliterated me when it happened. I could feel the dawning horror as I noticed the ocean receding, and I was already feeling my heart break when I realized I was going to watch both Kath and Lin realize the same thing. And then I watched it. And my heart still really hasn't recovered even now.
