Replacement Introduction
The package of SC5080B is SOP8. The customer feedback indicates that the chip has been out of production, so we need to use the KT148A voice chip to replace and upgrade the original chip solution. After all, flash-type voice chips have natural advantages in use and modification.
Basic Specifications of SC5080B Voice Chip
SC5080B is a newly launched multi-function single-chip 4-bit CMOS controller voice chip, which provides 4-channel voice/Midi synthesis function. The voice synthesis method adopts the advanced high-fidelity ADPCM algorithm, and the maximum sampling rate can reach CD quality of 44.1kHz. The hardware has 16-level volume control.
It has 3 I/O inputs and outputs, two audio output methods, PWM output and DAC output, with a precise internal oscillation of +/-1%. There is no need to add an external oscillator. It has ultra-low power standby and simple programming functions.
It is a one-time programmable (OTP) voice chip with few peripheral components, low cost, stable performance, strong anti-interference and simple control. At a sampling frequency of 6KHz, it can record a maximum of 80 seconds of voice and chord MIDI music. It has two control modes, button mode and one-wire serial control mode, and can be divided into a maximum of 255 segments of voice. Different voice materials can be written into the chip ROM.
Application fields: electronic organs, advanced toys, children's learning machines, anti-theft devices, smart home appliances, health care and physiotherapy products, instruments and meters, and various automatic control systems.

Hardware Aspect
The pin definitions are different. The power supply pin of KT148A is pin 8, while that of SC5080B is pin 7. For the one-wire communication pin, KT148A uses pin 3, while SC5080B uses pin 4. Therefore, the hardware side must be modified and cannot be pin-to-pin.
Software Aspect
There is a problem with the software communication timing, which is reflected in the timing level length. The customer's MCU sending 1ms and 2ms pulse widths to KT148A cannot play. Finally, by modifying the one-line receiving part program of KT148A, this problem is perfectly solved.

The rest is pretty much the same; no real difference.
Actual testing showed that when the customer's MCU sends 1ms or 2ms pulse widths to the KT148A, playback does not work.
After hands-on testing with a logic analyzer, the findings were as follows:

Finally, by modifying the one-wire receiver program of the KT148A, the issue was perfectly resolved.
